That cat better be fixed otherwise he'll be spraying and the ship will smell like kitty piss.

Anyway, Igraine, how likely is it that someone can die during stasis?

Makes me wish I'd got Reece a dog. Even though personally I'm a cat person, I don't think he would be.

Well you know, kinda the same way we know everyone in an RP uses the bathroom, but we normally don't... Ah... Go all into it? I'm perfectly content to skip over whether or not Mowzer's an un-neutered Tom and not think too hard on cat spray there...

And as far as how likely anyone is to die in stasis? I'm going to go with near impossible of "natural causes." There is no aging in cryostasis - although there are exceptions for allowing people into stasis. These exceptions would be a pregnant woman, and anyone under the age of two years. So yes, that does mean there is a small population of either pregnant women (pregnant at the time Copernicus departed, or become pregnant during the previous shifts), or mothers with children too young to be put into stasis quite yet.

Ah yes, the frozen microwave dinner version of the fountain of youth ;)

I have a question, what do they do with dead bodies? Put them in a coffin and shoot them out the air lock?

Heh... Do you REALLY want to know... ? *grins with visions of Soylent Green*

I kid - yes, that is it, in essence: coffin out the air lock. Everyone's genetic material has already been sampled and stored in each of the five sections, and the possibility of cloning for future genetic diversity is always an option. :)

Oh that's cool, I was wondering how they were going to deal with the possibility of inbreeding

I was talking to Kuro about those people that were not part of the project, or family to those working aboard. The ones that lived in the nearby towns that were rounded up. If they had no skills, they'd be put to work in the menial tasks such as janitorial, cooking, cleaning out the animal area, helping with greenhouses, and whatever else would be needed. There might be some that are not the nicest of folks or the most well intentioned.

Possibility: one section is dedicated to orphans, completely unrelated to any else on board and from a wide varity of ethnic backgrounds. This would provide a larger gene pool as a backup in case cloning doesn't work as hoped.

Good.

I also don't trust that sweet smile.

I'm curious about the food production. Is it all freeze dried astronaut food or would they have eggs from chickens or butcher any animals aboard? Bake anything fresh? Would it be a rare thing, like a holiday treat or not at all.

Yes we will Kuro, Wednesday evening. I'm trying to give everyone a chance to wrap up whatever they have started with other players.

And yup Justric, there likely are a few orphans there. There are something like 6,700 human beings remaining alive. But at the time this starts, the vast majority (except mission essential, pregnant women or anyone under the age of 2) are in cryostasis. Because many of the living are from a military base, ethnic diversity is pretty much a given, though it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine the genetic banks would hold more than simply the DNA of those there at the time.

As for food? I imagine it would consist a great deal of MREs reheated and supplemented with vitamin/mineral supplements, whatever can be harvested by the horticulturalists and the yes, butchering on occasion - though a turkey or roast beef or rack of lamb might only be on a given holiday. Now, if you're going to ask me about halal or kosher butchering, or accommodations for vegans, I'm just gonna have to beg you to pull me out of the weeds there!

Haha, well Ester can always assist in that area. She knows the rules of being kosher, and likely of halal since she is from Isarael. How much will religion play into their daily life? I can imagine there are people from all walks of life and beliefs in gods or lack there of. That might become an interesting subject aboard such a close area. If people cling to their beliefs and find hope in them or if they fall out of faith because of the entire Change event, etc. I'm positive the laws of the ship are secular, probably based in the US military code of conduct.

The laws of the ship are secular of course, considering the diversity that is bound to be there in the population. But hmm... All those questions there? Yes, lovely questions... So happy for a character-based RP to play with them!
