The uproar was deafening, but no, it was a silent one. The uproar was blinding, the faces and the grotesque expressions of her servants, maids, sons, guardians, some were surprised, other in strange, sickening awe. Vlad has already retreated away from the scene, Domund crossed his arms. Her own reaction came quick, first her face lightened up in a brief, moment-lasting surprise, then the look of realization swept over her beautiful face.

Hmm.. Say, Flooby, what is the current state of literature and the arts in Lundland? More specifically, are there books, how widespread are they, and what topics are written? (I.e. Is it only manuals & religious texts, or are there theatrical works or fiction/tales as well?)

And that should be everyone. Let me know if I missed you. Otherwise, everyone is updated!

Just to let everyone know, I'll be having limited internet access this coming weekend, and several days afterward. I shouldn't miss anything, but don't be sad if I don't get to your questions for a while.

Yeah, and the religion itself. Let's create an interesting, ORIGINAL Monotheistic religion, and not neccessarily Jesus Christ. Say, something else would do much much better, in my opinion. And that players can also add to the Church canon, create their own saints/biblical events, I mean, it'd be amazing.

I assumed that there were no books due to the whole "early-medieval" setting mentioned somewhere. But then it was also more common for the Lords, especially the surpreme one to wander around the realm to keep everyone in check; so I dunno.

I answered it in Fortunes PM, but there are hand-made books about. Only the clergy, nobles, and administrators are literate, of course, but they exist.

As for the religion, you can add your own saints 'n such, as I have nothing against that. Lundland is meant to intentionally be a little cliche due to the need for accessibility. If a bunch of people are going to be writing their own stories in this world, it has to be a place they can become immediately familiar with.

That said, I think Lundland has grown into its own unique beast.

EDIT: As the topic of religion has come up a bit, I'd like to say this on the matter, as I've perhaps not given it the attention it deserves in the rulebook:

* Almost everyone in Lundland follows the Lundish Church. There are a number of other religions, such as the old beliefs the Suehans brought with them, the primitive religion of the clansmen, numerous heresies, and those who only follow the teachings of the Master's Church. In that last one's case, the difference in scripture is very slight, and more a political affiliation than a religious one, and thus something no average peasant could care about.

* You yourself may believe in a different faith, heresy, or profess to only follow the Master's Church, but if discovered, you will be tried for heresy, the punishment for which can be as light as excommunication ( the inability to be apart of the Church ), or as serious as death.

Oh my god, it was all a cover up.

I can see it all now. The Vassals, you made it seem like we had extra military, extra support. Places we could farm and live off of and have ready man power to increase our strengths. The benefits were all a lie! The intent of the roleplay was to see who would become the Ruler of Lundlands and see the wars that took place. You wanted us to feel safe in our little slices of the land, a new world to seize. But no! As soon as we would tip a toe into what appeared to be anti-Rone, shit would hit the fan. Our vassals are supposed to fight alongside us no matter the enemy, yes! If we call on them we can take down any Lord or Lady! Killing off the competition, but as soon as we went against House Trisch, our lives would have been over. As the Vassals follow the House of Trisch, and if betrayed, they'd fight for their beliefs. It's going to be a slaughterhouse! They'll turn on their own Lords and Lady's as soon as they utter the words, the very... armies, that were our greatest weapon, turning into our very own demise!! And it was almost the most perfect and ingenious plan I almost never saw coming!

You mean a lord of Lundland should not be openly affiliated with or believing in non-Lundish faiths or risk punishment? That's a bit of a problem in Almare's case, where the clansmen's religion has pushed aside the Lundish faith quite efficiently, and believing in their ancient gods is quite normal there, for lords and peasants alike. Perhaps uniquely in all of Lundland, I would definitely consider the Lundish church to be the minority here, as being practiced mostly by members of certain upper castes (old lineages of lesser nobles and knights who cling to the values of their forefathers (e.g. Owain Griffiths, the lord's brother, or Llyr Cardiff, Almare's ambassador in Jorvik)), and a few small converted communities.
So how does that work with the church? If they decide to excommunicate the lords of this realm, that seems reasonable enough to me, but I'd be unpleasantly surprised if they sent the inquisition to sentence the poor lord to death for heresy.

'As light as excommunication' was sort of a joke, because yeah, it is a big deal, but I imagine most player's response to be excommunicated would be 'so what?'

@ Ashgan: You've explained your religious situation well enough ( and I explained Lundland's religion poorly enough ) that the Church won't be launching an inquisition anytime soon. Worst case scenario is that they excommunicate you.

@ Cale: Cale, just to make you feel even worse, everyone else already knew what you just found out, and took it for granted, because they've played Crusader Kings before. But if it helps, you can still just make sure your vassals are more loyal to you than to House Trisch, which should be easy, since you've been nice to them.

No.

whatsoever would give you that idea

EDIT: I'm leaving the country in approximately 6 hours for a trip, so as I said earlier, my internet access will be limited for the next 5 or so days. If you've got any burning questions to ask, now's the time.
