Pat resisted the urge to flinch away when the girl grabbed his hand. At first he thought she was just trying to grab the pills before realizing she was using his more for support than anything else. Pat just sat there for a few seconds, not really knowing what to do, before Vida decided to take the initiative and throw up for a second time. At this point Pat realized his endeavor would have failed anyways, seeing as even if she did take the pills, she wouldn't have been able to keep them down. Vida managed to whisper something about sleeping before passing out. Pat laid her back down on the ground before standing back up.

Well... that's that. At least she doesn't have to worry about being lonely, I'm sure quite a few of us will be joining her shortly.

Pat quickly scanned his surroundings again. It seemed everyone was doing mildly better than before. The man with a bullet wound to the leg had even gotten that bandaged up. However the girl who was shivering before now seemed to be curled up in a ball and wasn't moving. With a sigh, Pat started over to where she was to see if he could help.

After a quick visual inspection, Pat decided that there was nothing wrong with her. She obviously hadn't been shot. She didn't seem to have any cuts, bruises, or any other sort of injury. Her skin looked a little paler than an average persons, but Pat just assumed that was her normal skin tone. Looks like the other girl managed to pass on her patented "curl up in a corner and cry for no reason" technique before getting shot. The girl was probably just suffering from shock and would get over it eventually. Probably just in time to get shot. Still, Pat felt it was wrong to just leave her without doing anything so he made a half-hearted effort to snap her out of it.

"Come on lady, get up. Sitting there isn't going to solve any problems."

When the man had suddenly appeared in the cells Christian hadn't been aware of what had happened immediately. Carter stopped talking suddenly and he realized from the conversation that this intruder was someone that wasn't supposed to be inside this base. He must be one of these Reformers that Carter had talked about. Minutes later Christian felt someone grab the back of his shirt and his surroundings suddenly changed.

Not that he saw any of this or really even "felt" it. No Christian knew that he was in a different place because between one second and the next he could feel sun on his face and wind rustling through his cloths. He could feel the platform he was on moving slightly this way and that as well as hear the sound of wheels on a road. He was in a car, or van more likely judging by the number of people he could hear talking. There was a number of conversations that Christian didn't really tune into.

There was sand on the floor of this van and Christian used his hands to feel his way to the corner bumping into several people as he moved. The best thing he could do was keep quiet and listen as these Reformers talked. Given that they hadn't used armed forces, guns or tranquilizers like the last abductors Christian was more inclined to listen.

Christian slumped into the corner and waited, listening. After a time her heard one of the voices which he'd identified as the Reformers swear and start to talk about the chopper that was following them as well as a number of SUVs. Christian couldn't feel too happy about this. These men, the Reformers hadn't done anything too them. In fact they had been relatively pleasant driving company while the group that was chasing them apart from now aiming shots at the van had pumped them full of drugs and buried them in a prison cell.

The one that someone had been calling "stretch" gave them some very rushed and slightly panicked advice. Get to the thicket. Christian swallowed suddenly not sure that he actually could. Despite all the turmoil around him Christian's second sight hadn't kicked in. He couldn't know what was around him, in a rushed situation on unfamiliar grounds he didn't know where to go.

The van was being buffeted. This way and that it swerved until finally a particularly bad turn sent it careening to one side and fell to the ground. It rolled several times. Over and over. Christian cracked his head on something. His breath was coming in short gasps now. He didn't like unstable cars or crashes. Calm, collected, safe... He hit his shoulder at a bad angle and he felt an explosion of pain as he heard a pop of the socket coming loose.

His left arm hung limply and he scrambled one armed in the direction he thought was outside. The direction that the sand had exploded in. Something skimmed his good arm and it exploded in pain and with it the world became clear all around him. He didn't have time to focus on details. The thicket that he'd been told to run for was right. He ran after the rest of the group. His cloths getting caught on brambles and thorns and his leather jacket tearing more than it already was.

He could feel the bullets as they go farther away. Apparently no one was interested in them. It was the Reformers that they wanted first. This little rag tag group was an afterthought. Finally they got to a clearing. Christian felt the sun on his face and all at once his vision faded away leaving behind a dull pounding headache which seemed inconsequential in comparison to the injured sounds of everyone else. He gathered that one man was shot in the foot and the paranoid girl sounded like she had a head injury but otherwise he thought they'd come out of it unscathed. The crying girl was of course throwing up. She sounded in an awful state but alive.

If they survived this perhaps one of the Reformers could teach him to keep his "sight" on all the time, though he reflected with how his head felt now perhaps that was not such a good idea. "Where do we go now?" he groaned out at everyone else. Without realizing it he had made up his mind to fight with the Reformers given the choice but there was every likely hood that they were about to be captured.

“…And by the looks of it, they’re not too far away from you.” A woman’s voice said in Ben’s earpiece as he made his way through the thicket. “Great! I think they stopped, you better get going Ben before Wilso—crap!” Tia exclaimed before shouting directions at the others with her in the Command Room, obviously frustrated at the problem that arose.

“Hey Rookie, what’s going on?” Ben asked as he gave a slight glance towards where the others were as he wondered how the situation was going. “Are the others okay?”

“Yeah, but I feel like they’re planning something but I’m not sure what. However that’s not important right now. The bug is disconnected Ben. I cannot track them.”

“Wilson?” Ben asked as he picked up his speed in the direction he knew that the group was last located.

“Maybe.” Tia said hesitantly. “However, something about this seems off. If it was him, he would have just—you know what, never mind. We don’t have time for me to explain this. We need to find them. The last known coordinates was towards the south of you. Keep heading there and maybe, if we are lucky, you’ll find them or at least traces of them which you’ll be able to follow.

~.~.~

A hiss of pain escaped the doctor’s mouth as he climbed over a fallen tree stump. Seat belted into the van, Dr. Wilson knew that he was fortunate enough to escape getting more injured than he was. Mumbling under his breath on how he wished one of the others would have went after the Charlies, the older man hobbled through the thicket as he looked for any traces that would lead him to the his target, or better yet find Ben before either of them reached the group.

“How’s it going Doc?” An upbeat voice said through his earpiece. Although the young Garret’s voice irritated him at times, Wilson was always surprised on how upbeat he could be even during situations such as these which always caused him to wonder if the man was someone that kept an outward demander for the world to see or if was actually serious in the way he act.

“Splendid Garret, just splendid” Wilson said sarcastically. “I’ve did a number on my knee and who knows what else during the crash and here I am chasing down these Charlies.”

“Well, not to bug you or anything but we’re nearly done here so you better find the Charlies so we can make our escape.”

“Alright, alright. I’ll find them when I do and not a moment sooner.”

~.~.~

“What in the world—“Jenna mumbled looking dumbfounded as a sand figuring materialized and quickly made its way to help man with his injury. “That’s pretty neat I have to say.” The woman said as she watched the doll disintegrated into sand. From the incidences that have been happening during the past week, a man being able to teleport and another being able to stretch like rubber, Jenna didn’t feel like she could get any more freaked out about the strange happening that have occurred, although the figurine’s shape being a cute little doll mostly helped her accept the situation. Maybe with enough boldness and courage she could accept everything that was going on and who knows, if both groups are so keen on claiming her and the others maybe they would do something to defend themselves from them until they are able to find out what exactly was going on.

However as she looked around the group and at the condition they were in, she knew accepting help from one of the groups was necessary, even if consequences were to follow. Both groups seemed to have people like her and the others so maybe they could help them figure out what was happening and maybe, if things were able to work out, she could learn to control the random incidences that have been happening to her.

“You know, we can’t just stay here and I don’t think we can keep running.” Jenna said looking towards most of the group as she averted her gaze towards the bloodied woman on the ground. “Who can we trust? I think I can trust all of you but what about them? Just hearing the bits and pieces I’ve heard from both groups have me confused on who’s trustworthy.”

“Well I’m not saying you have to trust me—.” A new voice said breaking into the conversation.

Looking surprised at the newcomer, Jenna was a bit surprised she didn’t hear the man approach the group but with the way the group was in shambles, it wasn’t fully out of the question why she missed him.

“However I am a doctor and these people, if not all of you need medical attention.” The old man said keeping a slight distance between him and the group to show he had no intentions of doing anything sudden to them. “Heh, I guess that includes me as well.”

“Come with us tonight, if not a week and let us help you. Those injuries need help and you’ll need time to recuperate as well. After that you can decide if you want to stay with us. We’ll keep the doors open but I want to tell you all, we just want to help out fellow Supers. Give us a week, get better and let us explain everything and then do whatever you like. Just give us a chance.”

Esters eyes quickly followed the source of the voice who was speaking to her. She lifted her head, the freezing tears dripping off her chin. 'Oh shit...' She muttered 'You're right...' Ester slowly stumbled her way back onto her feet. She stuck her hands under her armpits once more, and looked at the person who was speaking too her. 'I'm s...sorry...' She blurted out through chattering teeth. "God damn it, it's the middle of god damn May... Why is it so... Freezing?!' Ester asked herself again, hoping that the man that found her would respond to her. Hearing the voice of Dr Wilson perking up, Ester jerked her head towards the man who was talking. 'Please for the love of god tell me he can treat hypothermia...' She muttered, listening in on what Dr Wilson had to say. Ester looked back towards Pat, then to Dr Wilson again, hoping that someone would show some sympathy. Hell maybe even tell her what the freaking hell is happening. Ester quickly wiped the tears off her face and stuck her hands under her armpits again.

Even through the haze of her concussion, Sam recognized the implications of Wilson's plea. An ordinary person would relive past experiences in short, disjointed images, and vague recollections of emotional responses relating to the subject at hand. Sam was far from being an ordinary person. At the mention of his title, her mind branched from that central point, noting every detail she'd picked up during her study of medical staff while she'd been under lock and key. A medical man meant treatment of injuries, but it also meant risk. She knew how they loved their mind-altering chemicals.

"Oh, good," she grated. "A doctor. I haven't seen enough of those."

Still, their options were steadily and rapidly dwindling. The cold, methodical calculations in her mind wound down to just two possibilities which, in this place, at this time, mattered at all to her survival: A shot from a syringe or a shot from a handgun. Given her mental scoresheet, she'd survived the former for quite a while. It made sense to go with what she knew over what she didn't. With a mental note to watch his every move, Sam silently -and grudgingly- resolved to help Wilson.

"For now." she reminded herself. There was no sense in making long-term commitments. Not to one of them.

In the Midst of the Gunfire
Things seemed to be going according to plan, or at least the best as things could go with the sudden improvised plan both with the sudden influx of Gen Charlies as well as the TSP catching up to them. With Daniel using his power to enhance Garret and his own power, Cameron watched as Josiah made his way towards each of the TSP’s vehicles, obviously slowed down due to him reaching the upper limits of his powers even with the aid of Daniel's help earlier in the evening while he, Garret and Daniel worked on dealing with the TSP agents and giving Josiah cover.

With Garret keeping Aaron distracted and himself dealing with the TSP agents things were going smoothly and as Josiah reached the last vehicle and planted the last device he knew everything was set. “Have you heard anything?” Cameron asked Garret who was in charge of keeping a line of communication between them and Dr. Wilson open.

“Yeah, he’s found them and is working on bringing them in. Wait as long as you can but things seemed to be nearly ready.

“Okay.” Cameron said viewing the scene in front of him. Although there were a few TSP personals close to the two armored trucks close to the thicket, there didn’t seem to be anyone nearby, a safe exit route for the Charlies once they arrived. Although Josiah made his way to each vehicle to plant the devices, he did so to all but the two by the thicket so that nothing would appear as too suspicious to anyone carefully observing Josiah. However most of the TSP personals were too focused on dealing with him and the other two with him, no one seemed to pay too much attention to Josiah as he watched the man teleport to the edge of the thicket so that he could aid the Charlies to the truck.

Putting his hand in his pocket, Cameron grasped the device he had. It was only a matter of time before he could set things ablaze.

Within the Thicket

Glancing at the others she knew what the decision had to be. Although in the pit of her stomach she wasn’t comfortable going with the doctor, she knew they had no choice. Medical aid was needed and during that time she could find out what was happening to her and maybe even find a way to leave and make sure that they and the other group would leave her alone. She wasn’t looking forward to having any more trouble with her life and getting involved with whatever was going on between the two seemed to be a surefire way to be included in the trouble.

“Alright but just for one week.” Jenna said with a slight nod.

“I presume you have the power over ice or something similar?” Dr. Wilson said looking at the shivering woman. “It might take some time and work but I think we can help you find a way to control your ability so that you don’t have to suffer through the cold or at least find a way to make it less bearable if it is a drawback to your ability”

Slowly turning his gaze at each person as he watched for some sort of agreement if they were willing to give one, Dr. Wilson continued. “I cannot force you to come with me tonight with all that is happening hit if you accept my terms that I gave you please come with me with no delay. There will be vehicles waiting for us at the edge of the clearing. The others will be keeping the way clear for us as much as they can but do not delay or stop. They do not intend to hurt you at all but with how dark things are and the chaos that is happening there is no promise that a stray bullet won’t be heading towards you. Once we are all in, we’ll head out once Cameron distraction is set in place.” Turning towards the woman lying on the ground he looked towards the more abled people and especially towards the large bodied man before continuing. “She doesn’t deserve staying out here in the middle of nowhere. Would one you help carry her out?” Dr. Wilson said sure that the woman was dead after seeing how much she was shot up.

Turning around back towards the waiting vehicles Dr. Wilson guided the group keeping a pace that everyone could go at a hurried but comfortable pace for the injured. Once they made it to the vehicles he could start working on the most injured people and then fix up the rest once they made it the base but until then they had to suck it up as much as they can and reach safety. Dr. Wilson only hoped that they could make it to the vehicles before meeting up with Ben.

Ester listened to what Dr Wilson had to say. 'Ok...' Ester said, chattering a little bit less. Ester looked down to both her hands, rubbing them together. 'Power over Ice?' Ester asked herself, rubbing her hands together. 'If i'm so freaking cold then why am I not freezing over?' She asked herself again, all these questions passed through her head. What would zach think of this? Will he be alright? Ester hoped that he wouldn't get involved in this. As Ester pondered her questions while walking, she suddenly remembered something.

'Wait...' Ester said. 'The guy who 'brought' me here, where is he?' She asked Dr Wilson, who lead the group. 'More importantly, who is he?' Ester rubbed her arms, but had some determination to meet her kidnapper. All Ester wanted to do, the one thing on Esters mind was give Josiah a little bit of it, punch him at least. It be amazing if she beat the shit out of him. Ester smirked slightly with that thought in mind. Her kidnapper was going to pay with a punch.

Pat was shocked when Ester actually got up when he asked her to. He was half expecting she had broken her legs or something and that he had just made a fool out of himself. This also had the unintended benefit of finally bringing the "girls crying in a corner" counter to zero for what seemed like the first time in this little adventure. He took a quick look around and noticed everyone was pretty much back in commission. Maybe they weren't hopeless after all. Then Pat spotted a new face entering the thicket, a man who looked about as old as he was.

It seemed this Dr. Wilson had quite a bit of knowledge concerning everyone's newfound powers. He was instantly able to diagnose Ester's freezing problem (Pat wasn't sure how he missed her constant shivering but put the blame on his poor eyesight and generally not caring) as well as offered to explain what was going on if they followed him. For Pat, the decision was one of the easiest he had ever made in his life. Pat needed a new doctor, Dr. Smith's drug hadn't done anything for him, and it seemed like this guy might have access to resources regular doctors didn't. Pat started trudging towards where the doctor was standing.

"Well Doc, you've got me for your week. Its not like I have anything or anyone to go back to anyways and I've got a lot of questions that need answers."

Sam mulled over the decision she was about to make. For her, it was a meticulous process, but in reality took only seconds. The facts were laid bare in those seconds, ugly things, shining in the sunlight which could not be ignored. She was an escaped mental patient, off her meds for a week, injured and marooned in the middle of the forest. Even if she could somehow treat herself, she couldn't do it with pine needles and tree sap. Death had always seemed preferable to the treatments...until it was actually an option. She chalked it up to brain damage and resolved to go with Dr. Wilson.

"Fine," she grumbled. "But just enough to fix me. No 'corrections'."

Thinking about it, she somehow managed to break through the sludge in her mind to come to a rational idea regarding their escape. She couldn't know about the sabotage of TSP's vehicles, and even if she had, she'd still want insurance. That place had been like the institution in many ways, but was somehow darker, more sinister. She couldn't allow them to take her back to that place; back to where medical law might have no hold at all on its administration.

"Get us to the car," she told the doctor. She shook her head lightly, trying to clear away the haze. "Need a phone or a computer. Need cover."

Christian listened to Dr. Wilson's plan looking at the man, or in reality just slightly over his shoulder. He didn't consider it a difficult choice. These Reformers hadn't shot at then, locked them in a cell or drugged and kidnapped them (well him anyway). If he had to choose between the two groups the Reformers seemed like those with the most legitiment methods.

Besides, it wasn't like he had all that much to return to even if he could convince these groups to leave him alone. His only family was... gone. His students might miss him but past that and his landlord nobody would notice his disappearance and it was likely that these TSP people had sorted out a reason why he'd gone so no one would be suspicious. Something like a note to all his students: "My sincerest apologies but I am going oversees..." blah blah blah.

Besides if these Reformers could help him control his second sight... he imagined all the things he'd wished he could do again since the accident. Going for runs in the morning was high on that list. Without realizing it his decision was made. "Alright, we'll see how this week goes."

He paused, the next thing he had to say was one of the toughest things he had ever said but he must. He'd not had his White Cane when he was kidnapped so if he wanted to go with them then... "I'm... gonna need some help..." He raised his hand a little in the air. "I need... someone to... someone to guide me." He let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. He could count on one hand the number of times he said those words in relation to his eyesight.

Bullets flew by in a frenzy around her as she ran away from her unknown attackers. She was out of breath, but her chest didn't burn. She placed her hand on her chest trying to figure out where she should go, but everything was black. There wasn't an up or down, a left or right. There was nothing behind her and nothing in front of her, but the bullets still flew by. Pain flared through her back as she was shot. Instantly she fell to the ground and reached her hand back to touch it. Pulling her hand away from the wound to see the blood she was shocked to find her hand clean of any blood. The pain was gone as well.

She got back up and started to run again. She had to get away. Suddenly a man appeared in front of her wearing a rabbit mask with a creepy smile on its face. She stepped back from the man and looked around confused on where he had came from. There wasn't anything for him to hide behind, which meant he had just appeared. They stared at each other for a moment before he spoke.

"Do you know the difference between a monster and a freak?" He tilted his head to the side in a distorted angle that would have broken most peoples neck.

Her stomach turned seeing his neck in that position. It was hard to think of the answer staring him like that. She averted her eyes. "A monster is scary and a freak.. a freak is.. is.. they are different."

His head snapped back into place when she gave her answer. "So what are you?"

Vida laid on the ground. Her breathing was shallow, but at this point she looked worse off than she actually was. Most of the bullets had been pushed out of her body by now leaving her body to repair the tissue and organs. The wounds on her skin remained open to push out anything that would case her body harm. That also meant that she was still bleeding. Her body was on the edge with blood loss, but fortunately wit her new ability she was able to replenish her blood supply enough to stay alive.

Everyone around her was making the decision to go with the Doctor. With her in the state that she was in she didn't have a choice but to go with everyone or be left. Her fate was in the hands of all of those around her. Until she was healed and awake there would be no struggle either way from her.

The woman’s face paled as she looked at the woman on the ground. The closest she ever been to death was at a distant relative’s funeral a few years back but the elderly man passed away peacefully seeing him in the casket wasn’t difficult but the woman on the ground was different for Jenna. It saddened her to see the woman as she was and wished things didn’t happen to the woman as abruptly as they did. How would her family and friends respond to her death, knowing deep down that the true reasoning behind it probably would never be found out by them? How would her own family and friends respond if something happened to her? Or if not, what would they think once they discovered her disappearance. What would her best friend Emma do once she notice she wasn’t home once she made her way to her house in the morning?

Against her own will and desires, Jenna knelt down by the woman and slowly turned her over. Even though she knew that she wasn’t physically strong enough to carry her all the way to the van, she felt that as the person that knew her probably the best out of the group due to a chance meeting with her a few days ago she had some sort of responsibility to do what she could for the woman.

A look of surprise crossed Jenna’s face as she saw that the woman was still breathing, although far too shallow in Jenna’s perspective, but she was still alive. “Come on, stay strong.” She said as she gave a tight squeeze of reassurance on her hand. “You guys,” Jenna said louder this time so that the others around her could hear her, “she’s alive. I can’t carry her all the way but maybe someone can help me out?” If they could get her the vehicles and out of the way of danger before she lost too much blood, there might be chance that they could possibly save her.

~.~

A small smirk crept on Dr. Wilson’s face as the ice woman asked about her capturer. Although Josiah was someone he would trust his life with, the man was definitely a person that was rough on the edges with both his words and demeanor. Dr. Wilson’s hope was that whatever grudge her and the others might have against him wouldn’t hinder the relations they would try and build with each other.

“Josiah, the man with the ability of teleportation that you are speaking about, is out with the others so that we have time to escape. He should be waiting for us near the edge of the thicket with a few of acquired vehicles needed for our escape, that is if the plan went according to plan.” Pausing slightly as he walked, the older man looked towards Ester. “However I hope that you refrain from doing anything too rash until we make it to safety.”

“Yes, we will get to those questions in the morning after we are well rested and patched up.” The doctor said with a nod as he continued. “And don’t worry, becoming a Super is more than enough corrections for a lifetime.”

After everyone received the help they needed and were ready to move, Dr. Wilson led the way out. It didn’t take long before the gunfire and yelling started to get louder, a sure sign that they were nearly there. “Alright, those must be the trucks.” Dr. Wilson said pointing towards the two trucks in view not too far away from them. “There should be room for eight in each so disperse as you see necessary but let’s get those severely injured and need of care in the one closest to us so that I can start helping them out as we drive.”

“There you guys are. I was wondering how long it would take for you all to get here.” Josiah said approaching the group. “Daniel was betting it would be longer than this so I guess I won the five bucks.” The man continued as he scanned the condition of the crowd. “At the moment things seemed to be clear so once we reach the trucks we will need to set the plan into action ASAP. I need one person in the passenger side seat for each vehicle and start up the trucks once everyone is in. Once you do so we won’t have much time. I’m not sure how close I can get the others to the trucks but hopefully close enough before setting off the detonation. That should at least give us a little more time and enough of a distraction to get away but if not be prepared to lead the Charlies out Wilson.”

“Okay” Wilson said with a slight nod before turning towards the rest. It was game time.

Ester locked her eyes on Josiah, her hand curling into a fist. She wanted to just run up to him an beat him really hard, but as Josiah was explaining the plan to the group, her fist uncurled. Maybe beating him up wasn't the best option as of now. She was angry at him yes, but she shouldn't be so violent. Ester grabbed her hand with her other hand, rubbing it as it began to cool down slightly. 'Please don't. Please don't.' She muttered, hoping that her ice powers wouldn't get out of hand again and make her have hypothermia again. Ester was slightly worried, what if she lost control in a public place. 'Everything's gonna be ok...' Ester thought, trying to comfort herself while she listened to Josiah. 'They're gonna help you. And you're gonna go home.' Ester rubbed her hands together. 'There's hope. Just believe in the doctor.'

While just meeting, Ester felt trust in the old man. She didn't know why. Ester guessed that he helped make her what she is now. If he weren't so old he would have punched him, but Ester wasn't a bitch, so she spared the doctor. The thought of Little Zach soon spurred in her mind. 'Oh god what about zach...' She thought rather panicky as she rubbed her hands still. 'He... He won't know. He can't know...' The kid was only 12, he wouldn't understand. He needs her, and she needs to take care of him.

A blonde cheerleader shifted uncomfortable. She was hungry and her hand was aching, but she had given up trying to free herself long ago. The handcuff wasn’t coming off no matter how hard she pulled. She needed the key.

Honestly, the whole situation seemed surreal. One moment she was exiting the locker room after changing into the outfit she borrowed from of the students, the next she was struggling to break free from the man who grabbed her. He had pressed a handkerchief against her nose and she blacked out. Now she was god knows where in a freaking vehicle parked in some god forsaken place behind a van of sorts.

Naturally she started kicking and screaming the moment she woke up. Her kidnapper had scooted all the way to the other side to avoid her. Smart ass! He knew that the handcuff prevented her from reaching him. Her stomach growled once more. Callie swallowed a few times. She was really craving for chocolates and ice cream right now. Even a bag of skittles would be nice.

An unfamiliar ringtone broke the forced silence between the three sole occupants of the truck. The door shut silently. Okay so now it was just two of them. Callie glared at the man who was trying to get the call to connect. She mouthed a silent “oh”. On the seat between the two of them was the key! Cal tried to keep calm even though she was brimming with excitement.

Aaron said “Hey, is everything okay Annie? Can this wait until I get back Ann? We’ve almost reached the Reformers and I—“

Good! The man distracted. She watched him for a couple of seconds, and she decided she had better fake a reason why she was bending over so suddenly. The young woman reached into pocket of her sports jacket and fished out her lipstick. Hopefully Mr. Wiseman wasn't going to see through her "oops-I-dropped-my-lipstick" routine. She prayed that whichever deity listening at the moment would be kind enough to let her succeed. Not that she was ever this religious before.

Aaron said “I’ll be fine Ann, nothing is going to happen.”

Clutching her lipstick, the cheer instructor swooped down towards the middle. Her hand landing squarely on the key, but her lipstick rolled away. It hit the man’s thigh and remained lodged between his leg and the seat. Aaron reached down. He studied the lipstick briefly before handing it back to her.

Aaron said “Ann, what’s going on?”

Callie pretended to apply her lipstick using her faint reflection in the truck window. She could see the top of the other man’s head. He was leaning against her door. He looked at her for a moment, and she quirked an eyebrow in response. Was he suspecting something? No she was definitely imagining it because he looked away again.

Aaron said “But will the baby be okay Annie? Is it going to be like me, a Super?”

Super? This guy was bat shit crazy! Who in the world would have superpowers? They were living in realty and not some nerd imagined Marvel or DC universe! She really needed to get away from these lunatics as soon as she can. There was no telling what they wanted to do to her! A loud boom almost made Callie jump out of her seat, literally. She gaped as the van in front of them turned onto its side. The man standing outside rushed towards it, so did the man sitting beside her. Rather he had dashed out of the car with his phone still pressed against his ear. Cal ducked down and tried to fit the key into the keyhole. Oh god! They were shooting. She had lost count of the number of shots that had been fired. Her hands were trembling so much that it took her three tries before she finally freed herself. The blonde immediately threw open the door of the truck and ran. She blinked. Maybe she was imagining it, but she could have sworn she saw someone disappear into the bushes just awhile ago.

Despite the uncertainty, Cal remained undeterred; she charged towards the trees as fast as she could while remaining in a semi crouched position. The young woman tried her best to zone out all the noise around whether it was the yelling or the gun fire. She continued running even after she was certain she was well hidden among the trees. She had to get the nearest road and hitch-hike herself back to civilization! Hopefully these hoodlum terrorists are too busy killing each other to notice she was missing. Hopefully!

Callie screamed as she pitched forward. She threw her arms in front of her, but it was all in vain. She felt the winced as the rough ground scraped against the skin covering the underside of her forearms and knees. She pulled herself up slowly, but remained seated. She moved her feet gingerly. Lucky nothing was twisted or broken! Next she looked around trying to find the culprit. What she found made her do a slight double take. On the ground beside her was a white cane; a blind man’s cane.

“What in the world?”

Judging from the “newness”, someone had dropped it recently. Could there be others around as well? Cal’s heart skipped a beat. What should she do? Having others around would only drag her down, but she can’t just leave them here. It just wasn’t right. She closed her eyes for a moment and clutched her head. She rubbed her temples as she tried to make herself focus once again. Panicking was silly. Wait. There it was again. Yes! She was definitely hearing voices.

The blonde scrambled to her feet, picking up the cane as she did so, and hobbled in a zombie like fashion towards the voices. The white cane clutched awkwardly in her left hand. She could make out at least two or three people. However being so far away, she just couldn’t be sure. Soon all that was separating her from the rest was just a thicket. She paused awhile to listen some more. For all she knows, these people could be one of those crazies too!

Christian said "I need... someone to... someone to guide me."

Jenna said “You guys, she’s alive. I can’t carry her all the way but maybe someone can help me out?”

Okay. Maybe they weren’t lunatics, but they definitely sound injured, so most likely it would be safe to approach them. Well at the very least she could outrun them if it was a trap. Callie batted the bush violently with the white cane to create a suitable parting and then she stepped out. She took a few steps forward with her hands held above her head. The cane hovered precariously over her head. She glanced around awkwardly before pausing. Her blue eyes met Jenna’s dark ones.

“Err… I have a white stick, well, a blind man’s cane to be exact, but I come in peace.”

She paused and smiled a little. She faced each of the conscious members in turn once more. Seeing that no one was going to attack her, the blonde lowered her hands. “Well ladies and gentlemen I shall be your air hostess today - Callie Wright reporting for duty! You don’t need to save this cheerleader.”

Chapter 3

A collab with Kirra, BlessedWrath, Ryver et Rhine and ArcanicNeon

In the Midst of the Gunfire
Once the ragtag team of Charlies were prepared, Josiah motioned for the group to head towards the truck. Although they gained a new member to the group, it wasn’t hard to see that the woman was on the same boat as the other Charlies. As the first few Charlies scampered into the van, Josiah wasted no time and jumped besides Cameron. “Time to get going.” He said before holding onto Garret and once Daniel stretched his arm towards Josiah and clasped his shoulder, jumped towards the van. As the two headed towards the steering wheel, Josiah jumped yet again towards Cameron. With his vision swimming, it took the man a few seconds before he noticed that he missed his mark. With the TSP's gunmen now focused on the Charlies, he was glad when they gave little attention towards him as some of the TSP personals ran towards the trucks, hoping to catch them before they could get away while a few others climbed into their own vehicles preparing for a chase if it came to that.

"Come on Josiah, focus." Cameron said running towards the other man and gave him a slight shake. Although weak, Cameron could see that the man was trying hard to stay upright as he started to edge his way towards complete exhaustion. "One more time Josiah. Just one more time." Cameron continued as he moved the man's arm over his shoulder and tried to help the man walk but ended up mostly dragging the man towards the truck. Reaching the truck seemed impossible to him now that Josiah was out of the game. He knew if he left the man he would be able to defend himself and make it but with Josiah nearly incapacitated, reaching the truck would be disastrous. "We're going to get shot if you can't get us there Josiah. You don't have to reach the truck but if you value your life get as close as you can." That seemed to do the trick as Cameron watched Josiah trying to regain his focus. Moments later, the two of them were at the truck but were seconds too slow as a sharp pain shot through his back as the two jumped in front of the back doors of the lead truck. Taking no time to focus on the scratch that he knew far too well was made from Aaron, the man helped the man up and after getting himself in closed the door behind him.

With the two trucks running and ready to go, the two started back down the road. Injured and behind schedule, Cameron was glad to see that overall the plan was still on track. Pulling out the detonator out of his pocket, he watched the night sky as the remaining vehicles blew up. They wouldn't be following them this time around.

The Reformer's Base
Keeping true to his promise, Dr. Wilson started to work on the most serious injuries and was glad to find a medical kit stowed away in the truck. Stitching and patching up, Wilson wasn't too phased at the injuries sustained except for Vida who revealed that she didn't need any of his help due to her ability.

As dark skies outside of the truck started to lighten up as morning started to approach, a warehouse came into view. The Reformer's base.

The Reformers were not simply a group of malcontents and mercenaries; they were organized and well-funded. That, and not their powers, made them an inarguable threat to their enemies. Being able to teleport had its advantages, but without the assistance of a larger entity, even the most intelligent or powerful Super would eventually find his way into a cell again.

The sprawling, solemn building which loomed before them seemed a testament to that organization and funding as the convoy approached. It measured some 40,000 square feet and, presumably, boasted enough amenities to keep the Charlies safe, if only for the moment.

This area of the city had been set aside for industrial and commercial use. Much of the merchandise which supplied the major retailers in this state and others came through these warehouses. It was a central nexus of distribution and transport. That suited their goals just fine; no one would notice a few more shipments.

Clearly, the Reformers had chosen this area as their base of operations. The building they now approached was not the largest, and certainly did not show the best wear; many of the windows had been smashed out by trespassing teens, and almost the entirety of its walls had been covered over by graffiti.

The lead truck stopped, causing a chain reaction of brake lights from the other vehicles. Besides theirs, the parking lot stood vacant. Aside from the weeds breaking through the concrete, being here was like visiting a tomb.

"End of the line, folks," Garret quipped, muscling the gearshift into park. "I'd give you the tour, but I'm not really sure where everything is yet." He exited the driver's side and assisted with opening the side and rear doors.

"Go on inside, find a place to sit, and we'll try to explain this the best way we know how."

The exhaustion of the day was evident as Dr. Wilson looked around at not only the Charlies but the rest of his team. Knowing it would be best to dive into everything after everyone was well rested, he decided to keep the conversation brief and to the point and tie up the loose ends in the morning.

"You are all here for the same reason; because you have been fundamentally altered in a way which has enhanced your abilities. You were all taken prisoner as a result of that alteration. We don't think that's right. You're here because we think you deserve a chance to prove you can be a positive force for this world. But before we can figure that out, we have to get you rested and equipped. For those that were hurt but I wasn't able to get to in the truck, follow me to the infirmary and the rest of you can go with Garret and Daniel and they can show you the open beds we have. Once we are well rested we can continue but until then, good night. Or rather good morning, seeing that sun is rising."

Sam, who had been rather quiet during the ride and the doctor's introduction speech, simply shrugged and followed after him to the infirmary. Despite her feelings about medical men, she was hurt; she knew it and, by now, so did anyone who paid the slightest attention to detail. She was still uncertain about how she could help these rogues, but knew that her present condition would certainly hinder any effort to do so. Wilson performed a few standard tests. Once he saw the dilation response in her eyes and the difficulty with words and balance, he knew what had happened to her.

"Looks like you've suffered a mild head injury during the crash," he mused, reaching for the medical kit. "I'm going to give you something to help you sleep. Be sure you keep your head elevated and don't do anything unnecessary. Keep still and try to let your brain heal."

The smell of greasy eggs, burning bacon and charcoal toast filled the makeshift cafeteria. The combination of the atmosphere and the unappetizing smell was enough to turn any stomach. The dented metal tables, the lopsided plastic chairs, the chipped white crockery and the harsh white light made the dining area look like an underground morgue. The huge crates, the black cloth draped over the tables piled in the corner and the broken mannequins lying in a heap in the center of the room helped to reinforce this impression. Callie observed that most of the Reformers would either avoid this place (and live on take out) or they would pile their plate and leave. She stared as a huge group of "old timers" walk pass the cafeteria without stopping to say hello. She quirked an eyebrow and poked the eggs with her assigned spatula.

"Watch it! You are breaking the yolks!"

"Sorry!" She exclaimed. "I mean that was really rude of them. Couldn't they at least come in to say hello or check what is on the menu instead of pretending we don't exist?"

The chef on duty coughed and then wiped his nose with the back of his hand. "Most of them are addicted to Chinese."

"Well, they are missing out on good "wholesome" food."

"Awww shucks," Garett smiled a little before pretending to frown and wag a finger in her direction. "I bet you are saying to flatter me. I know you crafty newbies always try to sneak more than your assigned portion."

Cal returned the smile even though she was cringing on the inside. The food was so bad that she would have left to get take out as well, but she was stuck doing kitchen duty today. The rest of the newcomers, who were also assigned to kitchen duty, were nowhere to be seen. "I am a small eater."

Garret snorted in response. "As if! I saw the way you were packing those chocolates and candy this morning while jogging round the track. Don't worry I always reward my helpers. I give them an extra large serving of eggs and bacon fat. That's the tastiest bits."

"Oh... erm. Thanks! I do love bacon and eggs," Callie said as cheerfully as she could while trying to change the topic. "So what other duties do we have to do around here?"

"Well newcomers only do kitchen duty with me or garbage duty. Truthfully you should thank your lucky stars that you are one of my assistants."

"Are there a lot of people in the base? Like more than what I saw this morning? I mean... you make garbage duty sound horrible. Almost like a death sentence."

The man burst out laughing. He laughed so hard till tears formed in his eyes. "Coz it is. You will have to shovel the garbage collected over the last few weeks into a barge headed towards the landfill. No matter how you shovel the amount of garbage seems to remain the same. Heck if you aren't careful, you might even step into some of that black liquid collecting at the bottom of the heap."

Callie wrinkled her nose. "Urgh..."

"That's not all. You will also have to empty and clean out the sceptic tanks. Those containers house everything flushed down the toilet - including dead lab animals."

"I love you, Garret. You know that, right? I will work hard to be the best kitchen assistant you ever have."

"Now I know you are bullshitting."

Cal shrugged. "At least I tried."

As Cal was in the kitchen, Jenna was in her bedroom basking in the pain and soreness that emitted from her body as she laid on her bed looking towards the ceiling. She heard Cal leave earlier to help out with cooking but Jenna couldn't find it in herself to climb out of bed. Her whole body ached from the crash she was in and she was still tired from everything that had happened and wanted crawl deeper under the blankets and fall back asleep. However she couldn't. The thought of what might wait for her as the smell of burnt toast reached her nose kept her awake.

With a sigh, Jenna slowly climbed out as the soreness she felt while laying down intensified. She needed to find some pain meds as well as a cup of coffee before she started her day. Although the Reformers had a few stray pieces of clothing they could use, Jenna decided to stick to her own. However as she headed towards the bathroom to wash her face, she wished she could have gotten out of her grimy clothes when she was given the chance. She hoped that they would supply her and the others clothes besides borrowed shirts and sweatpants sometime soon.

Following the smell of breakfast food, it didn't take long before she reached the kitchen where Garret and Cal were working hard in making breakfast for everyone. "Hey guys." Jenna said to the two as she watched them prepare everything to take to the dining table. Breakfast would be ready in a few minutes.

"Finally the rest of you are waking up." Garret said as he pointed to where the plates and silverware were. "Would you take those out to the table?" However before Jenna could respond a scream came from the direction of the bedrooms. "I guess the silverware can wait. You better check on that before Josiah does. He's not much of a morning person."

Moments Earlier, In the Bedrooms

Sam's restless sleep took her through uncharted lands. She found herself gliding through a carbon fantasy, moving silently over spark-blue traces etched in a glass-smooth obsidian floor. Impulses streaked by at imperceptible speeds, careening toward the horizon in all directions. She reached out for one of these pulses and, before she could think better of it, caught one in her palm.

She was instantly accelerated by the blue ball of energy, snapping around corners with a speed which should have broken her neck. The ride was oddly devoid of inertia, however, and she could not feel the hold of gravity as she normally should. In the distance, great skyscrapers rose out of the surface of this alien world, composed of integrated circuits, capacitors and light-emitting diodes. At the center stood a colossal computer core, and she was heading straight for it.

Instantly, Sam found herself bolt upright in her bed, drenched in a cold sweat. Her chest was heaving with the effort to catch her breath. A quick inventory of her situation revealed a tiny room of incredibly Spartan decor. Her blanket now lay at the foot of the bed, thrown off by her violent awakening.

Once she had calmed enough, she swung her legs over the side of the bed and allowed her bare feet to touch the cold stone floor. She winced at the memory of the cement flooring of the institution, but blocked it out; there were much more important things to deal with.

She noted that there were no windows in this room. Despite her initial reaction to that information, she didn't feel the same way about this place as she had the TSP holding cell. She didn't get the feeling that a part of her mind had been cut off from the rest, as that room had given her. There was another feeling as well; one she couldn't quite place.

Slowly, Sam allowed her body weight to shift from the bed to her feet. One foot, then the other, and she began a slow pace to the opposite wall, upon which hung a very old electric lamp. She couldn't take her eyes off of the light; it didn't even occur to her. In moments, she was reaching out for it. When she touched it, everything she knew changed.

~.~

"Hello?" Jenna said as she approached the room, knowing that Sam would be there. "We heard someone scream and was asked to check it out. Are you alright?"

Sam lay on the floor, curled into the tightest ball she could manage, and appeared to be rocking gently. Her eyes were locked on the lamp, which had now gone dark. The occasional spark illuminated its broken frame.

"Oh god, what happened?" Jenna said as her eyes became accustomed to the dark room and saw Sam on the ground. Quickly taking a few steps towards the girl, Jenna crouched down besides Sam. She wasn't sure exactly what happened in the room but whether it was due to the girl's power or something else that causes the lamp to break, she could see that something happened to it by the way the girl watched it. "Are you hurt at all?"

As Jenna attended the young girl, she became aware that her lips were moving. At first, she made no sound, but, between breaths, began a soft whisper of indistinct words. Still, her eyes would not move from the lamp. As the rocking gradually accelerated, so did her words and so did her volume.

"...of the halogen group of gasses, interacted with a high-voltage surge well outside the normal 120 volt range, causing the quartz envelope to rupture, leading to a cascade failure of the entire enclosure..."

A puzzled expression was written on Jenna's face as she listened to Sam speak. "Hey, are you okay? Can you hear me?" Jenna said placing a hand on her shoulder but with no change from Sam, Jenna knew she needed to find someone to help her. "I'll be right back Sam. Don't worry, I'll be back with some help." Climbing to her feet, Jenna rushed out of the room and looked to see if she could find Dr. Wilson or someone else that might know how to help Sam.

Her speech was hypnotic; as though she were in some kind of trance. She did not blink, did not look away from the lamp. To outside eyes, she was totally unresponsive. Even as Jenna left to find help, her monotone droning about components and repairs continued on.

"...may be possible to replace the quartz component, if the tungsten element is not damaged, but a new environmental seal and low-pressure halogen atmosphere must be established..."

Minutes later, Jenna came back with Dr. Wilson in tow. Finding him in the dining room where the other Reformers were as well a few of the other people like her, or "Charlies" as she heard them be called, having coffee as they waited for Cal and Garret to serve breakfast. "See, I'm not sure what to do with her. She was like this when I found her." Jenna said motioning towards Sam.

Wilson peered through the gloom at Sam, who had continued blathering on about halogen and technical problems. By this time, it seemed her diatribe had expanded to include a range of theoretical adjustments to improve efficiency, though it was well outside the experience of a doctor.

He used his penlight to gauge pupil response. There was none. She refused to respond to physical stimuli, had no reaction when he waved in front of her eyes. His brow furrowed as he reached for the medical kit once more.

"Samantha, I need you to hear me. If you do not respond to me, I will have to sedate you. You are having an episode and it needs to be stopped before you hurt yourself. Do you understand me?

When no response came, the doctor shook his head and injected her. The effect was gradual, but inevitable, and she drifted off to sleep once more. Wilson gently laid her back on her bed and scratched his head.

"Damned strange," he commented. "Never seen that before. I'll have to do some tests."

"What happened?" Jenna said returning to the room with a spotlight and saw the girl in her bed.

"I don't know. I've seen schizophrenia before, but never this organized or specific. If she was hallucinating, I doubt it would have given her such elaborate detail."

He thought for a moment, tapping the penlight against his palm. "I'll wager my life's earnings that this is something to do with the serum. Have you been able to determine what type of gift she's been given?"

Jenna's eyebrows furrowed for a second as the man mentioned a gift. From what she had seen so far the serum brought her nothing that resembled a gift to her. "No, I am not really sure. She had a notebook of some sort with her in the cell with complicated drawing but other than that I don't know."

"Somehow," Wilson said, looking over his shoulder at Sam. "I get the feeling we're going to find out."

"Yes, I think so too but until she wakes up there isn't anything we can do so let's head back. They should be serving food now." Jenna said giving the girl sympathetic look before heading back to the dining table, with Wilson in tow. The plates and silverware was set and she met Garret on the way with a plateful of bacon.

"I hope you like eggs and bacon. I tried to make toast but they are a bit burnt."

"Yes I think that sounds good." The woman said as she sat down and poured herself a cup of coffee. "Good morning everyone." She said after taking a sip of her coffee. "Or I guess afternoon would be more precise."

While everyone was up and about doing his or her thing in the reformer base, Ester was sleeping. That’s all she wanted since her kidnapping. While the blankets on the beds were thin, they were long and soft enough to keep her warm.

As Ester was happily cozy in the covers of her bed, a hand gently grabbed her arm and shook her. Ester drowsily turned around to see Josiah. ‘Wakey Wakey, sweetheart.’ He said. Ester groaned and turned away from him. ‘No. Go away.’ She said coldly. All she wanted was just a little longer in the bed. She was freaking exhausted from the little ‘adventure’ she participated in. Ester curled herself into a ball on her bed and resumed her sleep.

Josiah sighed, grabbing her arm again. Suddenly, they were outside of the base but not far. Josiah had ester just above a puddle, and he let her go. Ester fell; screaming because of the freezing strike the puddle did to her. As Ester was getting herself up, Josiah grabbed her arm again, teleported them both back to her dorm. He let her go, and she fell again on her arse. She looked up at him, a rather angry look on her face. ‘Ass.’ She called him, Josiah walking off. ‘I’d recommend getting some take out. Garret’s not…’ He started, stopping at the doorframe ‘The best chef…’ He finished, walking off.

As Ester walked out of her dorm, she started listing off things she needed to do

1. Get something to eat. Chinese maybe
2. Call the school and ask to temporarily transfer Zach over to Alphie for a little longer
3. Take a nap later
And 4. Shower. Might do that after I eat actually.

Ester stopped in the cafeteria, grabbing a seat and sitting down. Should she ask to take a car out and get some food? After a few moments contemplating, Ester made an agreement with herself. She stood up. ‘Right, I’m gonna take a shower then I’m gonna go out for a while.’ She said. ‘…Can someone guide me to the showers?’

Pat finally woke up in the early afternoon. He had had some trouble getting to sleep in his new environment, it was the first time he had slept in anything other than his apartment or the hospital in probably a decade or two. Pat rubbed some of the sleep out of his eyes before sitting up and taking the time to do a bit of reflection on the previous days events. After a surprise newcomer, they had finally gotten into the vans and left that warzone. However when they got to the reformers "Headquarters" it looked like they had just entered another warzone. The place was rundown to say the least and lead Pat to question the quality of the equipment they had. The Doctor had a nice little speech when they arrived, saying it was wrong for them to be taken prisoner, but hadn't he just been taken prisoner by them? . Sure they were technically given the option to not go with them, but that other option was to stay in a forest with people shooting at them. Of course, staying with the Reformers was the best option currently available to Pat, but he definitely wouldn't be trusting them until they proved themselves. Doc had also reaffirmed that all of them had powers, and for most of them that statement seemed accurate, but then what was Pat's power? There was the possibility that it just hadn't manifested itself yet, but there was also the possibility the Reformers had screwed up and he had no power. Pat feared for what would happen to him in that case, the Reformers didn't look like the types to harbor a sick old man just out of the kindness of their hearts.

Pat snapped himself back to reality before getting out of bed. His room had quite a few similarities with the bedroom in his own apartment, being very simple in design. Although it was missing a few hundred pill bottles scattered about. Pat was sure those would come with time. Pat stopped at the door to note a weird ringing in his ears before leaving and heading towards the cafeteria. He had been told that they were allowed to get take out, but Pat lacked both a vehicle and the ability to drive, so the in house food would have to do.

Pat didn't have too high of hopes for the sorry excuse for a meal he found on his plate. Still, food was food and living on his own for so long had taught him not to be picking. With his plate in his hands he scanned the cafeteria for a place to sit. He saw Stretch with a few others at a table, and seeing as he was the only one he really knew, decided that place was as good as any. On his way over to the table, the ringing in his ears began to intensify. Pat was almost at the table when the sensation of pressure building behind his eyes caused him to freeze. He had just enough time to utter his favorite curse before the all too familiar chain of events rapidly unfolded.

First the ringing in his ears rapidly intensified, going from background noise to a foghorn blast in less than a second. At the same time the pressure eyes built up until it felt like his eyes were going to pop out. The plate of food fell out of his hand, he didn't hear it hit the ground. Time seemed to freeze for a second, giving Pat time to squeak out one last thought.

Day one of the migraine.

Vida sat with her legs curled to her chest surrounded in darkness. how long had she been here with only that man with a rabbit mask to be her company? He was strange, very strange. She wondered why he didn't take the mask off and why he was interested in hanging around her. He didn't seem to be put off by her mannerisms like others did. In the mist of her thoughts she didn't notice that he was in front of her now squatting to be eye level with her.

"Do you have your answer?" The ears of his mask moved as if they were real in response to his his question.

Vida looked at him then away. "I am not a monster.. monsters are scary and live in dark places." She wasn't a monster. She was sure of it.

"Interesting" He replied the mouth of the mask turning up into a smile. "But aren't you in a dark, scary place now?"

Vida looked back at him. "I am not a MONSTER!"

"Very well.." He stood up and held his hand out to her. "Let go some where with more light then."

She looked up to him hopeful. Someplace with more light.. she wanted to go there. Without a second thought she grabbed his hand.

1:10 PM

Vida stirred in her sleep. She was fighting to wake up, but her eye lids were heavy and hard to open. Finally she was able to open them and look at what was around her. The room was unfocused. Everything was fuzzy. "What.." She whispered not processing anything around her. "Am I still.... asleep?" She said sitting up. As her bare feet touched the floor she felt the cold. "It's cool.. dreams are lukewarm.."

She was still in a haze when the smell of food reached her nose. Her stomach instantly clenched causing a sharp pain to run through her body. She was starving.. she couldn't remember ever being this hungry before. Staggering to her feet she made her way out to where the food was. She looked different from last night when she was first abducted. Her body didn't look healthy like it had and she was thinner. All the healing she had to do the night before had taken its toll on her body. In order to save itself it had broken down the fat and some muscles in her body as a means of energy. She looked like she battle death and barely managed to evade it. She slid her feet along the ground as she walked as if picking them up was to much of an effort.

She shuffled into the kitchen with food and made her way to it. Her stomach growled loudly. Through the dark circles and bags under her eyes the food that was cooked looked amazing. Vida picked up some of the burnt toast and took at small bite before she started to devour the toast like it was the best thing to every be made in the planet. Next was the eggs. She stuffed them in her mouth until she could barely chew. Almost choking on her food she went straight for some bacon. She kept eating until she felt like she was going to throw up from being so full, but at least now she felt alive. The color in her skin gradually started to return and the bags under her eyes receded. She was starting to look healthy again. She even started to feel more energy in her body, like she could walk like a normally person again.

She looked up at the chief with remittances of the food still on her face. "That was good! I mean really good like taco Tuesday on a Monday with all the toppings and peanut butter dip! What is your name? I am Vida! Oh wait.." She stopped talking for a moment.. Now that she was fully awake she remembered what had happened the night before. She had been kidnapped and shot. "Kidnapped.. You kidnapped me. No, no. That isn't good.. but the food was. Wait I have to leave. Where am I?" She looked trying to get her barings straight, but she had never been a place that looked like this before.

She stood up quickly and took a step before stopping. There was no pain in her movements even though she remembered being shot several times. She looked at her hands, they weren't shaking. "How am I alive still? I've been getting over bruises and cuts quickly, but how did I live?" She closed her fingers to make a fist then released looking at her palms again..

“See, my food isn’t as bad as you all exaggerate it to me. Someone here appreciates my cooking.” Garret said with a slight grin on his face as he watched Vida eat her food.

“Don’t get your hopes up Garret, the bullets might have not killed her but your greasy food will if you don’t change your cooking habits.” Dr. Wilson said taking two tablets from a pill bottle before placing the big bottle of pain reliever at the center of the table for the other to use as needed.

“I agree, the only food I can eat is burnt because of you. You do remember that I’m a vegan right Garret?” Daniel said as he picked up a slice of toast suspiciously and scrunched his nose before putting it back on the plate. “We might need more than you Josiah if there’s others that want to join us on a takeout run. Who knows, this might be a good opportunity to bring a few of the others so that they can get supplies that they may need such as clothes and toiletries especially for the gals since I think they’ll be a little more picky with what supplies we have.” Daniel continued as Josiah entered the kitchen, slightly damp in places due to Ester’s wakeup call.

“A vehicle then?” Josiah said as he sat down and watched the woman that was crying yesterday scarf down her food. “We should avoid using the trucks we acquired yesterday but we can use the twelve seater van later on if we want to run to town after our attempted breakfast, showers as needed and some Q’s and A’s that I know you all have. Let’s plan on heading out in a few hours for those who want to join us.”

Looking at her food suspiciously, Jenna was glad for an excuse to leave her mostly uneaten food at the table when Ester asked for some help. She tried to eat a few bites to be polite since Garret seemed to work hard making the meal but she didn’t think she had the stomach to eat it all. “Sure, I can show you the way. I passed it when walking past Sam’s room” Jenna said, glad to leave the plate behind and led to woman down the hall.

“Just make sure you don’t wander too far, our neighbors are not the friendliest of sorts.” Garret said to Ester, both to let her know she’s free to leave as well as a warning. “Besides a gas station and bar a little less than five miles away, the closest town is about fifteen miles away and there’s nothing impressive about that town. They don’t even have a frozen yogurt shop, what a shame I tell you.” As the woman that introduced herself as Vida began to talk, Garret listened with his ever-present cheerful face as she complimented his food. However that didn’t last long as she accused them of kidnapping her and trailed off from that. Standing up beside her, Garret carefully grasped the woman’s palms she held out lightly with both hand so that she could remove them if she wanted to. “Don’t worry Vida. You’re safe for now. You’re allowed to leave but everyone made a promise to stay a week so we can explain what has been happening. I don't know what powers you’ve been given from the bus crash but the Doc is smart, he’ll know what you have. But please stay for now. Okay? You said you liked my food, I can make more of that for you every morning or even try and see if I can make tacos. It’s only Sunday but we can have Sunday tacos if you like?” He said with a smile, hoping that a bribery of food would work for his cause and missed as Pat started to tumble towards the ground.

However Dr. Wilson was ready. He knew that caring for the injuries that the Charlies received the night before wouldn’t end once they went to sleep. There would be soreness and pain as well as a possible panic attack as it appeared to be the case concerning Vida. He was glad to see that no one had the ability over fire breathing and spewed out fire while yawning or anything too drastic but the incident with the young girl earlier that morning still concerned him. However the second biggest incident that morning happened while carefully monitoring the Charlies around him for any abnormalities that might be a sign for an ability or injury. He was the first to his feet and heading towards Pat and knelt down towards the man. “Are you okay?” The man said placing a hand on his arm. Jerking back from pain, the doctor looked at the man with a painful look of curiosity. Grasping his head with a hand, he spoke out as a warning towards the others nearby. “Don’t touch him. I don’t know what his power is but it might potentially be dangerous.” Turning back towards the man, Dr. Wilson continued. “Are you okay Patrick. Can you hear me?” The doctor said placing his hand back on the man’s arm again as he tried to reassure the man the best he could do while trying to keep the pain off his face the best he was capable of doing.

10:38 P.M. - After the Van
Alex's Home

No, no, not a bet.

Knock, knock!

The old black man blinked to himself and turned down the volume on the T.V., swiveling in his comfort chair so he could catch a glimpse of the front door. "Sunday morning... everyone's at church, so... hm." Shaking off the confusion, he pushed himself up from the worn spot, groaning as his muscles grinded against his bones. "Getting way too old.." he mumbled to himself. Nearly shuffling towards the door, he grabbed his cup of coffee and took a generous sip of the black liquid before finally unlocking the padlock and opening the door with a gentle creak.

"Sorry," came an instant reply to the questioning gaze of the old man. "Things are just a tad more complicated than I figured." She straightened up, but it didn't hide the bruises and scraps on her face. She was one of the lucky ones though and that they hadn't taken her specially woven fabric off of her, so it had actually taken most of the impact from the crash. "May I? she asked, giving her old friend a small smile.

Alex just nodded dumb-founded and motioned her in lightly, staring at her as she came through the door. Quickly, he glanced out to make sure no one had seen before slipping the door shut and turning. His gaze went from confused to thoughtful as he took a sip of his coffee once more. "So.." he started. "got yourself into trouble already?

"Not exactly.." She let out a large sigh and sat herself on one of his couch's arms, placing her palms on it for support. "Remember me mentioning that 'change?' Well.. probably won't believe it right off, but apparently there was this serum or.. something.. that gave multiple of us powers of different kinds. Well, the government wasn't too pleased with this.. and some rebels... suffice it to say, they started having a little war over who got to keep the new toys." She combed her hair back as she watched Alex intently, searching for his reaction.

At first, he was quiet, taking another long sip of the black coffee before setting the cup on a small table. She stood there, thoughtfully folding his arms before he spoke. "That's not entirely unbelievable. I was a scientist working for the military back in the day and there were a lot of rumors about some sort of super soldier program. Yeah, sure, most of them were bogas, but this one.." He tilted his head, implying a more awe-giving tone. "This one, they actually said worked. Gave them super powers they said, but.. to think it's real? I could see why the government wants their hands on you..." Shrugging softly, Alex gave her another interested gaze. "So, what power did you get then? Super strength?" The tone given was of light jesting, but he seemed more serious than she expected.

(( PART II ))

The comment caused Ranae to smirk at the old man as her head tilted just a bit to the left. "Nothing special... just sudden knowledge on how to use martial arts, tactics, and thrown weaponry."

This cause Alex to chuckle as a grin crossed his face gently. "Oh? That's all? Haha, okay... well, that explains you suddenly being able to use those discs I made for you." The moment calmed down for a little bit before he unfolded his arms and stuck his hands into his pockets and let out a sigh. "So now what?"

"Well," she began quickly, knowing that question was going to be asked, shifting her hands to lay on her lap. "Now I clean out my apartment and move to the safe house. Make sure that no one can find me - except maybe that teleporter, but I'm hoping he's nice enough to leave me out of their little power struggle and let me fix something more tangible."

"And your job?" he asked, walking a bit closer to her, like he did when he was about to say something a little bit more profound than normal, his eyes glazing the top of the woman's boots - which also happened to be made of that strong fiber material.

Scooting her feet back a little, as if readying to leave, she shrugged like there wasn't much choice. "I quit. I have training to do and things to prepare for now.. sure, father is going to question it, but I'll just tell him I got bored.. he usually doesn't question much - not yet anyways."

Smiling softly, Alex nodded. "Seems like you got everything planned out.." Ranae tilted her head just a bit again, curious what the old man was about to say next. "I remember, only about six months after we started talking.. that.. haha.. well, you came out to me. Told me you liked women. Remember what I said?" His grin grew more as he looked into Ranae's eyes.

"Yeah.." she said with a soft, sad smile, remembering the moment. "You said you did too."

Alex chuckled, as if the memory warmed his old beating heart and he nodded. "Yeah.. goodness, you had this crush on this one woman, couldn't stop talking about her and it was so good to see you smile after all you had been through. Ah.." he sighed and let his shoulders slump a bit, as if coming back to reality. "You know.."

'I know,' she instantly thought to herself, biting her lip softly as her gaze darkened.

"Doing this.. taking the fight to the streets - it's noble and everything, but.. it's going to make it harder, hell, maybe even impossible to find that love you so desperately wanted. Are you really ready to make that sort of sacrifice? I mean, you'll always have me as a friend, but.." The was real concern in the old man's expression, standing before the young woman with the commanding authority of wisdom.

The reply wasn't given right away as Ranae tensed and felt her heart wrench in pain. Gods, she knew what this meant and what she was doing. She had wanted to be with someone she could share her life with since she was barely twelve years old. She wanted to love and be loved, not just by anyone, but by that perfect woman for her. How could she share her life though, like this? Fighting crime, putting herself on the line, breaking the law, and asking someone to follow her? Not only were the chances of finding someone like that slim, but would it be fair to ask that of them?

Finally, "I know... but what choice do I have?" She looked right back into Alex's eyes with pain, but pushing it away was this unspoken resolve and courage. "If not me, then who? Can I really trust someone else to do it? Can I ask them to take on that burden instead of me? Honestly, I don't really have a choice... it's just something I have to do."

Alex let out a heavy breath and stepped forward, gathering the woman in his arms, offering physical support as the warmest hug he could muster. How incredibility brave he thought this woman was, to throw away something like love, so that others had a chance for it without hate and greed. "I know Ranae.. I just had to ask."
