Well, she's quite similar to the character I'm making as we speak. Except, mine's a little less suicidal.

You should, so we can have an excuse to make an endless stream of fire puns.

Although, that's hotly a good reason to decide your entire character...

I probably shouldn't, but this looks really damn interesting.

What type of bender is 'needed' the most? I'm thinking about doing an air bender who lives in the Fire Nation, but I can do other nationalities to make a more diverse cast.

[Female | 20 | Fire Nation (Runaway)]

Zara is a careless, passionate woman with a slightly lazy nature and a tendency not to listen to others. Born and raised as a noble in the Fire Nation, she does what she wishes and holds little regard for the needs and opinions of those around her. For her, her own desires take priority over all else, including the lives of others. Despite her strong willpower, she tends not to restrain herself in the slightest, even at times when subtlety is required. Believes in a more spiritual approach to firebending, but her interpretation of this was to "become like the flame", resulting in her capricious, hard-to-control personality.

She does not like to be contained, a fact that ended up causing her to lash out at her parents and leave home in order to perfect her firebending. She tends to drift here and there, indulging herself and searching for enlightenment in her own, unique way.

Traits
Zara is an extraordinary firebender, but not in the same ways as others. She uses a beautiful, dancing variation on firebending which originates from her unique philosophy. While effective, this alteration to the traditional firebending style has yet to reach full maturity, and there's a long ways to go before she'll be able to match any master. Still, her strength can't be denied, even if it goes against some of the fundamental values of firebending. She wields a great amount of power in her flames, but simply does not bother to control herself even when fighting around others.

Relations
Dislikes the nobility (especially Princess Azula)
Enemy of her father

History
Zara's current position is one wrought by the endless boredom of her early life. Ever since she was a child, she always had a mentality that was different from others. This, together with her skills in firebending, lead to her spending much of her time cooped up in her family's estate, learning firebending from her father and other subjects from her mother. See, Zara comes from a prominent noble family in the Fire Nation, one that extends far back into the Nation's history. Her father was an amazing firebender who held a great deal of respect among the other nobles, and even ran his own firebending dojo for a time. However, with his doctrine of discipline and self-control, he never could manage to reign in his daughter's personality.

Without her father's knowledge, Zara had been secretly leaving the house and visiting the airbenders. She watched them, and began to see more about their different way of life. She knew that she could never become an airbender, but she thought that maybe she didn't have to. So, she began to uncover the ideas that led to her original style. Become like the flame...this one thought, repeated over and over, eventually began to define her and the way she lived. She felt like, if she pursued this idea, she could truly reach something of an understanding about firebending.

Her father eventually found out that she had been using his dojo to develop her firebending, and rather than being proud of her, he was disgusted. He said that she was a disgrace, and that her style was "Foolish and weak." So, she snapped. In the heat of the moment, Zara followed the first thing that came to her thoughts and did what nobody expected. She challenged her father in Agni Kai.

After the Duel, Zara no longer felt the need to stay in her family's home. She left with a few of her things, and set out to perfect her style of firebending. Not knowing exactly where she should go, she followed in the footsteps of somebody else who had left the Fire Nation, and eventually stumbled upon the sparks of resistance. The Rising.

Miscellaneous
-Her dance-like movements when bending have been known to mesmerize others, and with good reason.
-Her CS may be improved upon at some point. This doesn't mean changed, just freshened up a bit so that it's not quite as bare.
-Attracted to both Genders equally.
-Hopes that she can find love sometime soon.
-Does, in fact, have a sword that she is able to use with a relative degree of skill.

[Female | 18 | Northern WaterTribe Colonies -- Fugitive]

Kalani Uwato has been called many things in her life. Tenacious. Head strong. Disrespectful. Hot tempered. Rebellious. While many of these were directed at her towards her as insults, she has learned over time to wear these titles like an armor, refusing to let anything or anyone bring her down. Wearing a confident, almost stand-offish outer shell Kalani can come off a bit intimidating or stuck up. In person however, she is far from this. Both intelligent, and witty in conversation, Kalani has always considered herself a people person. Good with her words, and charm, she can typically win someone over after a few minutes of analyzing them. Never afraid of voicing her opinions, or striking up a conversations, she tries to view and treat others in an unbiased way. She can come off pretty blunt at times, but she isn’t afraid to call someone out, or correct misguided information.

She has a burning passion for her culture, apart from their old sexist and misogynistic ways, but with age she’s come to recognize the way the fire nation has shaped her people and way of life. Bought by money, and living in luxury thanks to the Phoenix King many have turned a blind eye to the oppression, and corruption taking place within the nations, but unlike her tribe Kalani has never been afraid to address these troubling subjects. Her opposing views on the world, and their government has caused heavy tension between Kalani and her family, which eventually lead to ties being broken.

While she may not mention it, or really show it, Kalani has always been a troubled person. With a strict, lonely childhood, she unfortunately developed the habit of bottling her stress, and emotions. Shut off from her own personal issues, she becomes quickly agitated and aggressive whenever pestered, or asked about them. Over analyzing situations that involve friends, or family she tends to assume the worst of things before finding out the truth. It’s rare that she’ll allow herself to get close to anyone, because while she’ll never admit it, those that matter to her have the biggest effect on Kalani, and her self worth. Confident in her opinions, and skill, she was never one to be truly confident in herself. Despite all of this, she still carries a strong, and seemingly poised facade, hiding her true feelings and fearful of any judgement from those who truly matter to her.

Traits

Like her parents before her, and her grandfathers before them, Kalani had shown an affinity for water bending at a young age, but while she's no prodigy she's definitely a force to be reckoned with. Trained in Northern WaterStyle, she was taught to fight in a defensive, and graceful manner, but with time and age she's developed the technique to her own preference. On the field, Kalani moves in a more aggressive, offensive manner. Quick, and cunning, she's not much of a strategist but she isn't against working with others if they share a similar objective. Naturally assertive and combative, even during training, she has been known to make impulsive, and sometimes rash decisions during critical times. While she mostly relies on her bending for most efforts, Kalani has a fantastic knack for charming her way through things. Good with her words, and a heavy understanding for others to boot, she knows how to feed a persons ego and get her way through lying, and pretty words.

C2C - FUYA

History

Kalani was born into a rather notable family among the Northern WaterTribe Colonies. Her parents sat among the small council as the head advisors to Chief Khahndu, and because of her lineage, high expectations were thrusted upon her. While old traditions were thrown to the past her parents raised her in a very strict, gendered lifestyle, or how her mother put it she was to be a 'proper young woman'. Told how to dress, walk, and even talk, Kalani had little room to grow as a person. There were rules for certain rules, and she was taught right from wrong in a very strict, skewed manner and any protest always resulted in the loss of more and more of her freedom. The home she had once loved became a prison, and at a young age, Kalani began to rebel.

Her revolt started out small in the beginning. She skipped lessons, and made personal changes to herself such as the way she talked to her peers, or the way she dressed. This didn't go along well with her parents, but Kalani kept on. Craving more then just mannerism, and rules, it was these little bits of freedom that gave her the push to strive for more. With age her antics began to grow less subtle, showing obvious rebellion against her everyday agenda, and her tribes misconstrued ways. Not the oblivious little girl she used to be, Kalani took it upon herself and used her families title, and power to bring awareness of the corruption, and oppression taking place. This brought heavy tension between her parents and the council. Many saw Kalani as a trouble-maker and a "loose cannon" and despite still being young, there was talk that with time she would become a risk to the tribe. With seemingly no control of their daughter, and afraid of what the future held for her, their parents ultimately decided to put her under her grandfathers custody upon his sudden request. While it wasn't her first choice, Kalani pounced on the opportunity to leave and less then a week later she was sent off to meet her grandfather in Merchants Pier.

Unlike her parents, her grandfather had always been a rather eccentric man. Looked down upon by many of the tribe because of his alcoholic habits, Ioane was a man that considered himself a warrior, but much to his displeasure Kalani had mistaken him for a simple fisherman upon first meeting. A veteran who had taken part during the great war before the time of the Phoenix King, Kalani had found common ground with her grandfather once she found out he didn't support their Fire Nation and their "World Order". While his original intentions were to remove his granddaughter from the toxic environment she was surrounded in, Ioane had quickly came to realize her potential as a WaterBender and decided to take her under his wing as a pupil.

For the first time ever, it seemed Kalani had finally found true freedom. Training, and traveling alongside her grandfather she became more at peace with herself, while a deeper connected to her culture was slowly built. It was a time of peace for the girl and rather then giving any past regrets, or troubles the opportunity to pull her down, Kalani allowed herself to finally grow, and mature the way she had always wanted. Having a heavy understanding and connection with his granddaughter, Ioane decided on her 18th birthday to inform her of The Rising. It was a risky decision, but with her strong views against the injustice the Fire Nation, and the Phoenix King have caused, Ioane knew it was were Kalani belonged.

Oblivious of just how rooted her grandfather was within the group, an unexpected encounter from Fire Nation Police brought their journey to a halt and Kalani back to the reality of the world. They accused her grandfather of plotting against the Fire Nation, and the Phoenix King, as well additional crimes of enticing a riot, and conspiring a rebellion before attacking them with an unfair advantage of six versus two. While they fought bravely, Ioane knew they were no match against the Military Police, and in a last stand he gave Kalani a chance to escape, leaving her with only a few words before he was executed on spot after her retreat.

[Male | 22 | Earth Kingdom - Rebel]

Soudai Fuusoujou is an energetic youth who is the eldest of three brothers with a positive outlook on life. Growing up on a farm in the Earth Kingdom, Soudai learnt to appreciate the efforts of hard work and determination. He’s the type of person who gives 110% at everything he does. His optimism is a great motivator and coupled with his playful enthusiasm makes him so approachable and fun to be around. He is a loyal ally to have, going above and beyond for a friend whenever the opportunity arises. He tends to get ahead of himself at times, placing him in situations that are difficult to back out of and leading to trouble.

Soudai loves to be outdoors more than anything, and the idea of being classy or formal repulses him. He just can’t picture himself in some gaudy noble’s robes and often jokes that he’ll probably get married wearing his dirt covered vest and hood. His lifestyle is rather active and he hates not having anything to do. He’s incredibly stubborn and doesn’t like asking for help with tasks, even when feeling overwhelmed. The forests is where he feels most at home, swinging through the trees just like he used to as a kid.

He can be rather over protective of his younger brothers, sheltering them perhaps a little too much. He and his siblings are always arguing over how strict he is, leading to a lot of strife between them. Soudai fears for their safety, after the injustice that befell his parents when they were younger. Soudai’s strength comes from his belief that one day the world will change for the better.

Traits
Soudai is a non-bender with no formal combat training aside from basic hunting lessons given to him by his father when he was younger. He was a very active child, spending lots of times running around forests and climbing trees. As a result of this, Soudai is very quick on his feet and incredibly agile. While he doesn’t possess incredibly keen instincts, his training has taught him to be very sensitive to the world around him. He has better than average senses and he is rather adept at tracking. Growing up on a farm has given him decent physical strength because of all the time he spent labouring to help his parents.

His proficiency with a bow is subpar at best. Good enough to hunt wild animals, assuming they aren’t moving, but he has a very long way to go before he can be considered a skilled marksman. Soudai’s true talent lies in his ability as a scout. He is quite mobile through the trees and can remain undetected for great periods of times while hunting or spying. He’s also quite skilled at creating traps for animals and is still learning to make stronger traps for capturing people.

Relations
Yumi Fuusoujou (Mother – Deceased)
Jin Fuusoujou (Father – Deceased)
Ken Fuusoujou (Brother)
Minato Fuusoujou (Brother)

History
Soudai’s family was never wealthy with material possessions, but they were among the fortunate few to be blessed with bountiful harvests of fruits to sell. They always had just enough to pay their taxes as well as get by. They lived on a large farm in the Earth Kingdom that grew many orchards of apples. Most of Soudai’s youth was spent in the trees, climbing and swinging from them. Over time it came naturally to him, and eventually his mother stopped worrying about him falling and breaking something. She was more worried now of the influence he had on his younger brothers, who were trying to copy his high flying act. His brother Ken was only a year younger than him, and the two of them often fought over which of them could climb the fastest or beat the other in a spar with wooden swords. Their rivalry even pushed into their work, competing to see who could harvest the most apples. Their parents had no issue with this, since it got the work done quite fast. The youngest brother, Minato, was the only bender out of the three brothers. He was fortunate enough to inherit earth bending from his mother, but she was never trained in the art so most of his skills with bending had to be self-taught. A feat which left Minato quite inept at bending, at least until he could find a master willing to teach him.

The family had a simple lifestyle and were complacent. Suddenly, out of the blue, the soldiers of the phoenix king started showing up demanding that the family pay extra to them on top of their taxes as "insurance" for the safety of their Orchard. They demanded that a high percentage of the families profits be given up to them, as well as three barrels of apples each harvest. Even despite their successful harvests of apples, the family couldn’t afford to meet demands from the soldiers and the Phoenix King's taxes and feed themselves, so Soudai and his father took to hunting and gathering in order to provide for the family. His father used to comment on how Soudai truly came alive when in the forest, as if he had a spiritual connection to it. The way he positioned himself through the trees to ambush his prey was handled with such delicacy and precision that you could swear he’d been doing this his whole life. His days became a routine of waking up early to climb through the treetops to watch the sunrise, practicing archery in the forests and then gathering herbs and fruits from the forest to bring him for breakfast. Then, he and his father would head back into the forest; which him scouting the area for beasts and his father taking them out from afar. Eventually his archery training become proficient enough for him to hunt on his own, but he was still too dependent on remaining completely hidden to get the drop on his prey. He couldn’t hope to hit animals that were moving, so he usually stuck to sources of water and waited for them to come in for a drink to snag the kill.

One hot afternoon, Soudai and his brothers were returning from a swim in the river when they saw horses with Phoenix King emblems embroided onto their saddles. This didn’t surprise them, since the soldiers usually came around at this time to collect the tax for that week. The brothers entered the house to find their father arguing with the soldiers, with their mother doing her best to keep them calm. The soldiers had started demanding more and more from the family, and with the orchards being out of season at the time they just couldn’t afford to pay their ridiculous amount. His father asked them to be merciful, saying that he couldn’t feed his children if the taxes kept rising. The soldier’s response was to draw their weapons against the three brothers, offering to remove a few mouths to feed to their father. Fearing for the safety of her children, Soudai’s mother stood in front of them in a basic combat stance. His father also brought out his dagger, staring off against the two soldiers. Soudai himself was also aiming his bow at them. He wasn’t confident he would hit them, but the soldiers didn’t feel too confident squaring off three on two. Slowly they left, departing from the farm reluctantly. Soudai’s parents told them to back whatever they could and that they would be departing later that night.

Soudai and his brothers packed a bunch of food and water and waited outside by the forest for his parents. Off in the distance they could see the trail of smoke coming closer towards their farm. They knew the soldiers would come back eventually for them, so they had to be gone as soon as possible. Soudai saw his parents approach them, but they hadn’t packed anything to bring. It soon became clear that they had no attention of accompanying them. Their mother told them to take to the trees, confident that the soldiers would never catch them there. Her and their father intended to stay back to give them a good head start. Of course, the brothers refused to leave without them, but their parents were persistent, determined to make sure they made it out safely. His heart heavy, Soudai decided that getting his younger brothers out safely was his most important task, so he agreed to his parent’s terms and took his crying brothers into the forest with him. They could see the cloud of smoke and ash rising into the sky over where their farm used to be. None of them dare mention what may have happened to their parents, but deep down they all knew what became of them. After a while of wandering through the forests, surviving thanks to Soudai’s hunting skills, they came across the Rising. Soudai joined them with his brothers, knowing that he could keep his siblings safe with them. Pretty soon though, he began to truly believe in their cause and decided to offer his talents as a scout to the group of rebels with dreams of a peaceful world for him and his brothers.

Miscellaneous
Soudai’s bow was crafted for him by his father and his most prized possession.
Soudai also keeps a grappling hook tied to his belt
Soudai lacks any real combat power, but makes up for it with his skills in scouting and tracking.
In the picture his eyes are red, ignore this, they are brown IC
Soudai’s mother is from the Earth Kingdom, but her grandfather was from the Northern water tribe. His genetics passed down through the family, giving Soudai silver hair just like his mothers.

Yes, technically.
Shila, Zara, Kalani are approved.

Marc, I read your character and I love it. Great concept, thorough application of an archetype, many personal overtones, well-written, obvious amounts of effort put into it. Exactly what I'm looking for, much like the other three. The only issue I have is the constant reference to just how high or terrible the Phoenix Kingdom taxes are. In all actually, the taxes themselves aren't that bad. If the farm had bountiful harvests, getting all the required food and whatnot would be easy. My suggestion is to create the same plot element via corrupted police force. It shouldn't be a huge alteration. honestly, just a bit of time and rewrites in the latter half of the history. You might be able to play this off as a better reason to be a rebel and have disdain for the Phoenix Kingdom Police Force.

Also, I'll reiterate this. Fire Nation Army = The badasses that come in as a last resort to fuck things up. Phoenix Kingdom Police Force = the brutal hand of the Phoenix Kingdom, half-full of punks that wanted authority and half-full of people that failed to get into the Fire Nation Army.
Since posting her, I've noticed Kalani and a few other characters share a few similar qualities (comes from a Noble Family, Fugitive/Wanted by the law), so if you'd like for me to change these things about my character please let me know. ^^
If not, I hope she meets up to expectations!

As long as each character is unique and individual, I don't mind. As a matter of fact, having similarities like that while fighting for a similar cause can act to strengthen the plot.

I stressed the importance and influence of culture earlier. Earthbenders are the least spiritual because their bending style is anchored in, well, earth. They're not meant to be astral. I feel like completely countering that without a valid reason isn't sufficient. Moreover, this phrasing:

"By some very strange twist of fate, Nicias, as a infant, was brought to Wan Shi Tons Library by a Knowledge seeker. Whether or not the knowledge seeker thought he was an object of value remains uncertain but nevertheless that’s what happened. Wan Shi Ton and the knowledge seekers raised him, and even trained him from scrolls that taught earthbending. However Wan Shi Ton found several uses for Nicias as he grew. In terms of food the knowledge seekers brought him food"

That's a really weak reasoning. There's no backstory, no real logic to it. It just happened. He's age twenty. Knowledge is pointless without application and practice. I don't care if he read a thousand scrolls, he probably hasn't mastered one form of earthbending, let alone more. So far, there is only one character I would allow the title of master, and that is the Firebending Dai Li girl. Even if he's not a master, learning all of this would just make him more diluted in the fundamentals.

I feel like there is this... element to this character. This element of "this is what I want, and it's here just 'cause." It's going to take more than that. Soudai is a character that I'm sure Marc poured tons of effort into, but I didn't allow him (yet) because I didn't feel like he was completely authentic to the setting. I would take from that notion.

Alright guys, I'm looking for one or two creative advocates. As you can see, there are tons of characters at the moment, which is good! I don't intent on stopping the flow of them. Most people request co-GM's and whatnot, but that's not what I want. I want people who want to come in and help create plots for all these different people alongside me. This means those superfluous writers that like to imagine these big plots? Come to me! I'll see what we can do. There is one rule, though. You don't get to oversee a plot your character is in. I don't want to force everyone along some linear plot, so this is my way of offering you guys creative diversity! Just PM me if you're interested, then tell me some of your ideas. You'll overlook 2-4 characters and their plot, and work alongside me. :D

I will try to fix and clarify later today. I understand what you are saying, I will try to make it better. But if that doesnt work i'll just start over.

But about the spiritual part, it more in reference to him living with the spirits in the Library, not really about him meditating and entering the spirit world.

Perhaps I could change his back story to say that rather than the taxes being high, those particular soldiers were extorting the family for their own personal gain, asking for high payments as well as the Phoenix King's tax? It's a little late so coming up with ideas is starting to get hard. I will rewrite it tomorrow~ Now time for sleep.
