So if you're going to be wearing the T-51b then it was provided to him during the war in anchorage, but since the year is 2077 and it was brought out in 2076 means that they aren't a lot of them around.
So it seems more logical for him to wear the T-45d because it's a great deal more common, however not as advanced.
And in turn I think that's why it was used in Fallout 3, they actually corrected themselves because there's a decent bit of the d model kicking around, but not many b models, this means replacing and repairing parts are very hard to do.

I'm sorry, Leos, I simply don't agree. The T-51b armor was standard issue nearly a year before the Great War. That means that every power armored American soldier was wearing T-51b by the time they were shipped back to the U.S., as well as during the final months of fighting in China. Sure, there would be some T-45ds around, but by the end of the war the military would have been creating as many T-51bs as it could handle, and T-45ds wouldn't be worth their weight in scrap. Maybe it wouldn't be ubiquitous, but there wouldn't be two sets of T-51b armor in all of Washington D.C., especially not when the Core Region was chock full of the things.

And again, read up on the Enclave's advanced power armor. It's supposed to be better than T-51b, it was designed specifically to be better, but in-game, it's significantly worse, especially if those suits are supposed to be advanced power armor mk II...

It may have been standard issue Imperfectionist but you're talking about a country that I suffering massively I terms of economy, plague, famine and civil unrest, how many of those suits do you think they can churn out in one year based on how badly the countries doing?
Also the vast majority of the T-51b suits will be on the west coast, and in Canada, what use are they on the east coast where there is no war?
That is the main theory on why the T-45d model is prominent in the east coast games, and the west coast games have all had the newer model.
So as Peligirno said the T-45d models will be used as a new form of riot gear and used to keep the peace.
As you your self said, they're not worth their weight in scrap, meaning that they would be used for other purposes such as those outlined.

However you're are true In saying that there would be SOME of the T-51b models on the east coast but I still maintain the idea that there will not be many of them.

Eh, we're splitting hairs. Both types of power armor are going to be around in Portland, at the very least.

In the games you can't get far without finding a packet: lockers of primary schools, park bins, dumpsters, feral ghouls etc. :P

Not my best, but IC is up. Let's get things started with some noise!

@Imperfectionist & Leos: Glad you guys are imagining, just wish it was about something to do with the story rather than a couple numbers. I already said T-45s would be the standard power armour used by soldiers for now. Not sure if that was unclear in any way, but there you go, reiterated and hopefully crystal. Maybe we can focus our attentions elsewhere?

@Uffizi: Cigarettes-a-plenty! My New Vegas has a couple mods solely so addiction is much bigger issue and cigarettes are actually usable items (as are packs and cartons). I would never, ever start a game where cigarettes were present! Because of my day-job and the reality of Vancouver & Portland today, expect marijuana too (playing off Beatnik themes for this one). As things move forward and pre-war money becomes less of a commodity, I hope to ensure these objects obtain greater value. Plus, come on... addiction is boss.

Wired, can you stamp your post with some of the date/location info as can be seen in mine? It'll help us figure out what area each character is supposed to be in.

W.I.P. (Tell me what you don't like)
Name:
Sgt. Robert L. Konrad
Date of Birth:
July 1, 2052
Physical Description: Concise, visual, and believable.
Image:

(Placeholder)
Profession:
U. S. Marine Forces Reserve Rifleman
Background:
Robert Leonard Konrad was born on July 1, 2052 in the Portland suburb of Beaverton, Nothwest Commonwealth to a family of Drugstore shopkeepers.

During his younger days, Robert was shown to be very smart, setting high expectations by his family. At the elementary school Robert had a crush on his classmate Sarrah, because of her tomboy behavior. During their third grade, Sarrah (accidentaly) had scratched his face while playing with Rober leaving a small scar on his right cheek. Robert (being a kid) was very mad at her and started ignoring her, starting to play with other boys in the classroom.

In middle school, Robert started to get bad grades since he focuse more on having fun with his friends than studying. This made his mother and father sent him to a tutor, whom Robert hated going to. Also, his father started making him help around the Drugstore more frequently and asking what kind of profession will he want in the future, this question, however, flew out throught the other ear.
One night Robert called up his friends to throw eggs and toilet paper at his tutors house, this event was seen by an neightbor who called the police. The boys were caught and ratted out Robert. His father was furious and grounded Robert for 2 weeks, yet, Robert got what he wanted - he never went to private tutoring again.
...
In 2070, during the Sino-American War, after finishing high school with mediocre grades, Robert signed up for Marine Forces Reserve and was sent to Parris Island for boot training lasting 13 weeks after whom, he was sent back home.
The next seven years were the most important in his life.
Having returned home he married his childhood sweetheart, Sarah and eight months later she gave birth to their child - Eugene.
As a Marine Reserve, Robert had to meet up with his Reserve Squad for monthly active drills in Portland.
In January 2077, Robert, now a sergeant, was sent to China during the Yangtze Campaign where the U.S. forces annexed many of Chinas claimed countries, that broke down the Chinese supply lines. Leading to the loss of the major cities of Nanjing and Shanghai. Latter being where Robert mostly served.
Now, after 9 months of service, Robert is returning to his family.

Nothing I dislike but my suggestion is to make it more personal. At the moment it reads like a military/life background check. It's good (in my opinion at least) to say why he did a lot of defining things in his life and how they happened. What motivated him to join the military? What experience(s) lead him to want to marry the girl he met as a kid? Knowing and exploring such things makes reading a character much more enjoyable to me personally. :D

@Sifter: I completely agree with Wired. You need more meat in the background, it seems like you're more interested in playing a general soldier than actual character development based on what I see here. I don't need to know about your weapons as they'd be standard issue if he were on-duty. If he's returning to his family off-duty he would not have an automatic rifle, so it keeps things pretty simple. Give more detail into his personality, his background, and what makes this guy tick. Until then I cannot accept the character.

@Wired: Will you be coming into the Vancouver-Portland Metro area or sticking far, far away from other characters?

Thats because as I should have already mentioned, this is a work in progress.
Think I did not choose the Chinese Vietnam for a reason?

I am basing him off Randall Clark and Martin Walker, whom ran on their revenge fantasies while hign on PTSD.
