Sounds early colonialism, tbh. That would mean we're entering the industrial revolution and just beginning colonialism, so not the late 1800's tech we're seeing.
Here's where most of my confusion is coming from. The industrial revolution didn't happen til the new world wasn't new anymore. Plus if we've got steamships(which we should unless airships use sail and muscle power) and airships and what have you I'd imagine some other things are more advanced as well. All of that got me convinced we're going the imperialism route not the colonialism route: at least aesthetically
