Considering there hasn't been a single new world discovered, that makes a second stage hard doesn't it...?The intro says we've been fighting over this land, not having found another, and that mystery surrounds it. Sounds early colonialism, tbh. That would mean we're entering the industrial revolution and just beginning colonialism, so not the late 1800's tech we're seeing.

Here's where most of my confusion is coming from. The industrial revolution didn't happen til the new world wasn't new anymore. Plus if we've got steamships(which we should unless airships use sail and muscle power) and airships and what have you I'd imagine some other things are more advanced as well. All of that got me convinced we're going the imperialism route not the colonialism route: at least aesthetically

Honestly I blame the disproportionate advance of the airships for the odd mess of tech. If we have supposedly managed to get these airships made of metal we would have metal boats, but we don't. Steampunk means we get new steam tech and such, airships etc. Rifles don't run of steam. When you're using rifles which are using mechanisms from the late 1800's, its not aesthetic

Honestly, we should set a proper tech level. I was still thinking we were 1700's like the last time (We had the industrial revolution underway then, I cant remember how we justified it but all other tech was mostly 1700's) with airships, not using Breech loading rifles etc.

I'm with Commodore Robot here. While it would be nice if mulligans were offered, I don't know that I'd offer them if I was the GM, so I won't be disappointed if the answer is no.

That just seems supremely goofy to me. I would certainly like some hard definitions on what's going in this world so my brain can be put at ease.

Precisely. I have no clue where we are at, because our tech ranges from 1700's to 1870, :/

I think were somewhere at the level of 1870s, with some areas being a bit behind.
If you are interested in Iron-ships and steamers though, it really shouldnt be to hard. Technology is there, just invest some money into it.

I had originally [and continue to] thought this was a WW1 level of technology, since we have muskets, but also less common rifles, and etc etc

This isnt near WW1 at all
We don't have gas or actual aero-planes, nor automated machine-guns.

True
Just looked up the time period; had my internal historical timeline skewed; had WWI about 30 or 40 years too far behind.

Duck, I've edited out the grass from my app, and removed the population part. Anything else I should change/edit?

Zeppelins (the closest thing to airships IRL) weren't invented until the year 1900. Which would put our tech somewhere between the civil war and a couple years before WWI

So yeah, I think we should probably have iron clads. Which, according to gowia, do not exist yet but can be invented?

Well, the problem is we are running imperialism... And no native is going to manage anything if we have 1870's-1900'a tech. It also sort of negates the purpose of having tech advancement at all... We're being imperialist towards the end of the Age of Imperialism. It also beggars the question of if we are this so far ahead, why are we only now finding the new world?

Hence Franco-Prussian War or Boer Wars, as I said earlier. Probably not Boer Wars just yet, although my nation does have autocannons for air defense and anti-infantry purposes.

Rifles would probably be standard no matter what time we're playing in past the 1850s, but I think it's up for debate whether our rifles are single-shot or not.
Unless we start to talk about lever-actions rather than bolt-actions...

In addition, we're far past the age of ironclads here with this technological level. We should be getting close to the age of pre-dreadnoughts, which... well, take a look.

Everyone is starting in the same technology level unless you have traits that say otherwise.

Also this isn't the real world. It's fantasy and steampunk so don't follow a normal time line because we are not the same.

But that makes no sense, explorers aren't always in a government payroll and by such a period governments would have thought to try and send explorers further out.

Also, Muskets in WW1... What?

Muskets were out long before that. Which also raises the question of why anyone is using muskets, and Kabaan isn't just behind but behind to the point of complete irrelevance... And we haven't a single colony anywhere.

Adding airships and having the industrial revolution early would be a steam punk spin, closer to the light steam punk it seems we were meant to be heading for considering mentions of muskets etc. I don't think we need to jump to 1870-1900 or near because we have airships and an industrial revolution.

Also, lets wait for Gowia should we? He's probably the one with the most knowledge on where shouts we should be and whether we should be using breech loaders from 1870 or have rifles as being widespread etc.

I thought this was a Dishonored/Bioshock style game where there was an Imperial theme running throughout but with strange and unique future advances (Like swords and flintlock pistols being used in tangent with walls of electricity and steam boats)

I can remove those, although Gowia might want to take it out of my submitted sheet entirely. My intention was a big focus on artillery to compensate for the complete and utter lack of air power that I have, since it seems unlikely that AA guns wouldn't be under swift development given the presence of functional airships.

I think some kind of AA is probably likely, though its probably still cannon like, because lets be honest, air ships are going to be pretty slow and you want to be hitting them with enough force to knock out their balloons and bring them tumbling, since the balloons probably picked up a bit of armour

@Feigling

The trouble is, no ones sure. I think this is supposed to be light steam punk though, so arc pylons and walls of light probably aren't making appearances xD I could see steam powers boats existing, though might not be at the start, depending on Gowia's word.
