You know, it'd be cool if that was the Secret Boss. Using the nerve-Gear to get into your head and pull out what you are least likely to strike down.

well as far as SAO goes, i dont think there are any secret bosses, so I think we're lucky on that one :'D

But, I doubt we are going to run into Kirito or Asuna or Heathcliffe, or any of the characters, even if we are Frontliners. Having your own thread leaves the thing your basing it off open to a bit of manipulation.

Well even though this is our SAO universe, doesn't mean we should tamper with it to much. We still want the feel of SAO, just experience it in our own way.
But A secret boss would be fun. But suggestion would be instead of a secret boss, just make it a quest or something. There's always some sort of boss-like-character at the end of a large quest line. In other mmo's at least.

Quest bosses are cool, but I always like the Secret bosses. The ones that there are really not many hints in the game to find, and aren't anywhere formal.

I believe I did actually say in the OP there would be no asuna kirito etc etc.
But.... we'll see how it goes. *shrugs*
Not gonna lie to you guys, I have 2 different paths to go down, and I'm still deciding which to take with this one.

Exactly. We aren't full Canon or they'd be in, so there is wiggle room.

sure there is. But we have to keep to the basics of SAO.
Hense why boss related things happen in the dungeons :)

They never really explored the creep system, but there was Nicholas the Renegade. He was a boss outside of the boss room. And then there was the King of the Lake - that giant ugly fish thing - and The Fatal Scythe.

Fatal Scythe was a hidden dungeon though. And Nicholas the Renegade was an event boss.

Guys, Kaben has a point, there ARE secret bosses... The giant fish WAS a secret boss, the hidden dungeon DID have a secret boss... And the event was a rumor that turned out true (info was probably leaked by Heathcliff), SAO is just like any other MMO, there are secret bosses, however, we should be sure to ask Yip whenever we wish to bring one in, and don't expect to fight it alone, you won't be able to, simple as that. Secret or no, a boss IS a boss.
To sum up, I believe there should be secret bosses, but we should talk to Yip about them, and we should avoid trying to be the lone wolf who can somehow beat an event boss (looking at you, Kirito) without any aid... (Which, btw, event bosses should be equal to, or stronger than that floor's boss, as they ARE only there at specific times, or under specific conditions)

Giant Fish I guess could be the one closest to being a 'secret boss'. The hidden dungeon was a dungeon, so you expect to have a boss there, the event was an event so Event bosses are also a given. SAO calls them 'Field boss' and plants them outside the labyrinth. The idea i had relates from a game I used to play called Shaiya, in which every one of the maps - the MMO was split up into 4 maps - had a super-boss hidden somewhere away. Had no quest for it, no pre-requisition and no way of finding the dam thing other than scouring the entire map. The only one I ever found was a humongous Dragon on the 3rd map after I got lost, it was up on the top left corner of the map, well away from everything else.

Rusty said what I was trying to say, I have no issue with it. I just don't want a bunch of kiritos running around taking on bosses.

The anime doesn't show it but, Kirito was about 20 levels higher than the boss, exhausted his stockpile of healing crystals and potions fighting it, and very nearly died in the fight, much like his battle with Gleam-Eyes.

kind of irrelevant here, because we still dont want an army of kiritos running around.
or do we?
*rubs hands together*

An army of Kiritos would need us to become angsty teens and spend months grinding solo to achieve massive levels. So no, we don't.
