Oh, also, heading to work now, but IC update coming tonight at midnight. Don't have many people's orders, which is understandable, as I took so long with the update this time around. If I don't have at least half the orders, an extension will be granted.

Could we have in broad terms which missile weapons are effective against which armor types?

Most missile weapons are effective against armour types. Even if they don't penetrate, your liable to break the person's ribs, and it's real hard to swing a sword with broken ribs.

Not sure I buy that. Armor deflected more often than stopped.

Maybe it would deflect a stone from a sling, but javelins and arrows deliver enough impact that it is hard to deflect them without getting hurt, with medieval technology.

It all depends. Long range and short range. Longbows or short bows , or crossbows or Javelins.

Since we don't get technical to the material in the tip or if the ammo is made of wood or metal; velocity. Short range, bows would not penetrate leather, more than likely. A bow fired at long range, or into the sky at the right arc, will give it penetrating power. However, more than likely only Longbows and Crossbows at max power and velocity will have the ability to penetrate plate, if it can. Javelins probably won't have the power and velocity to penetrate plate unless loaded into some siege type weapon, but there isn't a problem for it to penetrate chainmail.

This is my point of view with attempting to use realistic facts and logic. None of what I said is guaranteed correct for the roleplay standards nor what I say makes a difference in the roleplay due to my position.

This is something Flooby will have to look into

The reason why you see many leather armored enemies getting killed by close range archers is due to the fact... They are archers. They are skilled in a bow much more than a sword. They are trained to seek out an enemies weakspots, aim for them, and anticipate an enemies movement, which is why they fire ahead of a moving target and not directly at them. With archers, the skill is before the initial strike, swordsman, the skill is after the initial strike.

(Not including melee soldiers trained to deliver killing blows within the first strike). Example being duelists

Penetration is not the only problem though. Even if the armour manages to stop the head going though, the kinetic impact doesn't just vanish, and in most cases is enough to knock the wind out of someone, at bare minimum. The worst case is that it can fracture bones without even going though.

The same applies. If it does not penetrate, it gives a nauseating blow.

Best word I came up with while being distracted with having to go back to work after break. I know there's a one word... Word for a blow so hard it causes great pain and/or knocks the wind out of an opponent. The fact my brain knows there is a word and I can't think of it also distracts me. Sorry for being unclear

More or less a critical strike without penetration. Very little velocity will provably only occur from bows at short range. So even javelins at short range can induce such a blow due to their weight.

I can assure you all that these things are known to Flooby, he does not leave little things out so they can affect outcomes of battles. He puts these things into the rolls

Stab an ice pick as hard as you can against an angled piece of metal. Then use a hammer. The ice pick catches an angle and glances. The hammer smashes.

Short range, bows would not penetrate leather, more than likely.

Law of conservation of energy. The arrow is going fastest at close range, before air resistance works on it.

I'm talking 10-15 feet, I don't think it'll penetrate. But, this is, again, my perception

It absolutely will. The arrow is fastest as it finishes its launch.

We all have things to do everyday, some more than others.

I propose that a new standard is made; 2 weeks instead of one week for the new updates. At the end of the first week, we make a vote if we can have the update early (If Flooby says everything is ready, early, that is).

I propose this new standard because... while all we need to do is figure out what is done and make decisions, we are not the ones creating the movement rolls, attack rolls, making the chances and calculations, everything that Flooby does. Sadly, I am not good at those things, or even have an idea as to how they are done. Flooby (With what it seems), does not have the evening all the way to midnight when he works. Starting from only a few hours after the middle of the day. The man needs his rest and yes, he does, need some Flooby time. With his job, his school, and us, it all consumes him. And rushed work is not good work. This is why I offered to help him make it easier any way I could even with my limitations.

This is why I propose this, and think we should all agree to it. Is anyone for this proposition?

I once proposed longer times between updates and yours truly declined. As far as I'm concerned I have no objections to a slower pace.

Beforehand, I had a bit more time than I used to, as I wasn't so busy with courses 'n whatnot. Now with courses + work, I'd be down as a clown for bi-weekly updates. That'd give me ample time to handle the meaty updates, and allow everyone to do tons of diplomatic actions.

That said, it did appear to be too much time in the beta, so I'd rather poll everyone on the matter before I make a final decision. A majority vote in favour of it [ 5/8 ] would suffice.

As for what ranged weapons are effective against which, you don't need to worry too much about match-ups. In game terms, crossbows will be effective against everything, while bows and longbows will be effective against everything except plate armour, as almost all weapons are less effective against plate armour.

I vote no. At two weeks per season and 4 seasons per year, we would only get through a handful of years in one IRL year.
