I assume that, by demon, you mean youkai?I'll say that...what does her demon sword do, other than cut things physically? And so far, we have a Conjurer/Knight and a Ronin. Guess that's pretty much the frontline, other than a lack of a tank.

More like, just nefarious Japanese-esque entities. Not necessarily yokai alone.

Mmm, nothing's really coming to mind for me. No characters, no stories, nothing. I've learned to trust my instinct and throw in the towel if concepts and characters don't naturally form for a setting, so I'll have to say I'm not a good match for this roleplay. Oh well. Not much of a loss~

Have fun, ERode and others. It's an interesting experiment you want to perform and hopefully it'll do well.

Just a bit under the weather.

Name: Roan Basaris
Race: Raulite

Age: 19

Description: Fixated on the Labyrinth from a young age after seeing its entrance, the mysterious dungeon was just a focal point for Roan’s natural curiosity. The group his family travelled alongside was made of those whose wanderlust was exceptionally strong. Traversing the lands faster than other Raulites, their path was unpredictable and thus never boring. Roan tapped into his pool of magical energy at an age that was considered to be early, and though the depth of his was not amazing, the effects were. Accessing it at a young age allowed the magic to infuse his still growing body and mold it in ways an already developing body would have rejected or resisted. Though his internal stores were forever diminished, he grew up quick and strong, even amongst his kind.

With boundless energy as a result, Roan dived head first into the many “mysteries” he noticed during their travels. Sometimes his experiences ended badly, and he sports more than a few scars to tell the tales for him, but like a child he never let the bad crush his personality. Eventually he also began to learn from the experiences which tempered his enthusiasm… somewhat. Yet with one thing tempered, another was revealed.

While he might not have been an adult mentally, thanks to the circumstances of his youth, Roan was full grown by the time he was about 16. It was around this time that his own sense of wanderlust awoke, unsatisfied to simply follow the explorations of his parents and companions. It wasn’t just wanderlust that drove him to set off alone, but he himself didn’t know how to explain it at the time. It would be revealed when he set foot onto a barren wasteland, what remained of a clash between an army raised to stop a mindless engine of destruction spat out by the Labyrinth. It was here that Roan discovered his first contract, absorbing what traces remained of the lingering spirit so as to call on it later.

Returning to the Labyrinth's gates a few years later, Roan feels he can sate it is the place that can truly sate his wanderlust. For the past year, the drive rarely dulled and did so for only brief moments at most. The sensation was most unusual for him. Normally it pushed him in a direction, towards lingering traces of those he could form 'contracts' with, but not this time. The urge would pull him this way and that, seemingly without reason or direction. So instead he decided to return to the place he had seen in his youth and finally satisfy the fixation that had stayed with him from then.

Name: Arydnia ‘Arryn’ Tabolt

Age: 18

Race: Human

Bio: Known for its lasting reign over the North, powerful line of Kings, and formidable army, the Kingdom of Taeron has always had special ties with The Labyrinth. Considered taboo through most Royalty, the Lords of House Tabolt have reigned, and wielded powerful artifacts for ten generations by the means of sacrificing their female daughters and house members. While old traditions raised them as servants, and often times as slaves, more knowledge and a better understanding of the Labyrinth have brought the Tabolts to raise their daughters as Squires, and Knights.

House Artifacts were delicate in the beginning, and weren’t made for war, or power. With changing times, the quality and power of the artifacts became stronger and more adept to the Taeron way of life, granted by the strength of the women entering the Labyrinth.

For the good of the Kingdom, and by the blood of the House.

Dictated by this oath, and tradition, Arydnia’s fate was already devised before her birth. Born a twin with her brother Aeris, she was raised to believe that she had been graced with the honor to sacrifice herself in the name of her brother, and the Tobolt House. And as the 'Princess' it was her duty to serve the kingdom in the only way she had been told she could. While Aeris, and the rest of her brothers learned about politics, and were lead down the path of Kings and Nobles, Arydnia was raised in the ways of a Knight. Appointed as the personal squire of the King, she went under intensive training with her father until, Arryn Ramsay, Head of the Kings Guard, took her under his wing. Squiring beneath him, she was taught how to properly fight, spending her days training and preparing for the fated day of her eighteenth birthday.

Like the other women of the Tabolt name that had been fated with the same destiny, Arydnia had always been aware of her destiny. In her mind it was an inescapable fate, and a responsibility that would soon fall onto the other would-be females of the Tabolt name. Coming to accept this, she understood entering the Labyrinth would be a lose-lose scenario for her either way. If she made it through, creatures and beasts long before her time would meet her on the other side, and if she didn't, she would simply be fulfilling the duty she had been raised to prepare for all along.

Personality: Arydnia has always been a serious girl. Stoic, drawn, and independent, her father often praised her for her strength, stating that even as a child she hardly ever cried, or whined. Her life has revolved around nothing but the labyrinth, and training, rendering her almost completely socially inept. Blunt, aggressive, and seemingly unsympathetic, its hard for anyone to really get along with her, or for her to get along with anyone else. Past this tough exterior, and while rare, and never with out a rough edge to it, she has been known to show off a kinder side at times. However forming bonds, and making friends has never been at the top of her priorities.

While she holds no contempt for her Kingdom, or people, Arydnia has never felt that she was apart, or belonged to her House. Treated considerably different from her brothers, she has always been aware of how her parents really feel about her. She has seen the greed, and corruption that drives her father, fearing that her brother will only become the same. However in her position, she has no power to protest any of this this. With a life that's been paved for her from start to finish, she's come to accept whatever fate has in mind for it, be it escaping the Labyrinth, or even death.

Fast, and precise, Arydnia is without a doubt better then her brothers with a sword. Keeping up with Sir. Ramsay, and at times, even her father, she holds great confidence in her swordsmanship. Because of this she become rash, and even cocky in battle, which tends to be her greatest flaw. Despite this, Arydnia has an unbreakable tenacity and confidence, capable of taking a hard blow, she'll force herself to fight through pain and broken bones to stand her ground.

The Kingdom of Lulia, or the Isles of Lulia, is a small nation consisting of a large main island and four small satellite islands. The main islands are separated into nine main states, or prefectures. The main island, Lulia, has five prefectures, Pem, Oshington, Hayes, Gusto, and Ocros, with the remaining four belonging to the four satellites. Ruled by the Crown since time immemorial, Lulia is a fundamentally mercantile nation with many colonial holdings. A highly industrious state, it is known for three things: manufacturing, navy, and education.

A staggering 75% of the country’s gross domestic profit is international trade, with the remaining 25% attributed to primarily agriculture and statistically insignificant markets. Lulia is renowned for its nearly unrivaled manufacturing and industrial capability, which is centered nearly exclusively in the smoggy Oshington Prefecture. Oshington is Lulia’s geographically smallest prefecture, consisting of Lulia’s five major cities and their governing zones. These five cities together account for the majority of the kingdom’s population, and are the reason for Lulia’s arguably unwarranted image amongst foreigners as a sooty and densely populated nation. Unlike the cities of other nations, Lulia’s major cities are not homogenous. Over the course of centuries its centers of trade have become melting pots of cultures and religions.

Contrary to the image put forth by Oshington, Lulia’s other prefectures are of a slow, peaceful agrarian nature, with rolling fields of wheat and sweet rustic towns. Life is quiet in these lands, and even in the larger coast side fishing towns there is a pleasant atmosphere that makes one want to relax outside and sip coffee during the warmer months. Farmers are the minority of Lulia’s population, and are well regarded out of patriotism, for most food is imported from other nations.

As a mercantile, maritime nation, Lulia has a sizeable and powerfully equipped navy to protect its commerce and cruise the seas. At present, it has a comparatively small army, used only to hold down colonial holdings, or settle domestic disputes. It was only in recent memory that the Lulian army was this small, however; Lulia was the very same nation that sent its armies into the Labyrinth in a series of catastrophic expeditions. Happily enough, the Crown regarded the expedition as a success, although in one incident the Labyrinth yielded part of a mountain that crushed most of the countless artifacts that were spit out in equivalent exchange.

Regardless of gain or loss, the destruction of this grand army had little effect on Lulia in the grand scheme of things as its superior navy has always protected its nation. Indeed, the main islands have never experienced a major nor successful invasion of their land in the millennia Lulia has existed as a sovereign state, and this is reflected in the proud and patriotic nature in even the most diverse citizens of the kingdom.

The academic institution is an important aspect in Lulian life. Upper and middle class citizens are socially expected to be schooled at a young age, starting from five until fifteen, when one has the option to attend university. Privileged peasants or magically competent people can potentially secure a university education by showing sufficient potential and petitioning a lord, but this is uncommon.

A typical Lulian University is usually situated in the countryside in grand and sprawling campuses, away from the hustle and bustle of the Oshington cities. Most Lulian institutes teach two core curriculums: The Common Arts, including history, art itself, mathematics, politics, and professions of the paper and land, and the simply put Magic Arts, which encompass the realms of alchemy, healing, summoning arts, elemental arts, magic theory, and the like.

The Lulian people have an odd and somewhat morbid philosophy in regards to the Labyrinth. It is common tradition to sacrifice oneself at an old age, for the common good of the people and their families. Although this practice is not ubiquitous, it is not uncommon to see the elderly make pilgrimages to the Labyrinth. Interestingly, the political and academic elite have not yet given up on attempting to unlock its secrets. While military generals and navy admirals are simply interested in the shiny weapons that come out and send in military squads, it is not uncommon that entire academic expeditions end up sacrificing themselves in vain attempts to beat the system alongside their military and elderly counterparts.

One of these academic-types is Jean Cedric Carteneau, a 32-year old human professor of the Magic Arts at the Hayes University in Lulia. Jean hails from a small farming town named Oshuu in the Pem prefecture, the son of an alchemist and a vintner. His father, the town alchemist and healer, acted as Jean’s mentor as they lived in his mother’s family vineyard, where he ultimately decided follow his father’s trade.

At age 15, the young Jean was accepted to the Oshington Grand College, a world renowned university and one of the few academic institutions within Oshington itself. It was here at this prestigious school that he met his ultimate mentor, a certain magic theories professor named Reynolds Ballard. Ballard’s teachings left a profound impact on Jean, and this amplified tenfold when Ballard set off to lead a large expedition into the Labyrinth in his second year of university. Now his assistant, Jean was the one to send off the army into Labyrinth… And one was the one to witness entire mountains appear in exchange. It was a definite finality, but it was, simply, a fact of life. The loss of his mentor served only to fuel his desire to learn more about Labyrinth and what lied inside the maws of the dungeon, and he graduated four years later at age 20 with full honors.

After graduating, Jean found himself returning to his childhood home to take up the town title of the town physician, after his father passed away a year prior from illness. He continued his studies independently in this role and became a competent healer in his own right, to an extent that he was eventually offered a position and tenure at the university three towns over, in Hayes. Jean, now 26, was surprised and flattered at this offer, and accepted the offer of tenure at the Hayes University. The position was a comfortable one and he enjoyed long days of discourse with fellow colleagues and students, but his intrigue of the Labyrinth continued to nag him throughout his career. He made good on obligations at Hayes, but with regret, he resigned his position after six years and set off on his own pilgrimage.

-

Jean has a mild personality. He is a soft spoken, gentle person, but at the same time strong in resolve and will. Perhaps suiting to his profession, he strives to be helpful and benign at the outbreak of conflict, and he was known as a judicious arbiter at Hayes when solving academic disputes amongst colleagues and students.

A hard-working, inquisitive sort of guy, he can be found staring intensely at papers at his desk, or in the field studying plants for an experimental potion or even the odd ingredient for some homebrew alcohol. He is enthusiastic by nature, but does well in hiding this, appearing as a reserved and thoughtful professor that likes to joke about idle things.

When things are serious, however, he is merciless as anybody would expect him to be, whether he is acting as a professor, a healer, or a citizen of Lulia, Jean would not hesitate to wreck an academic career for dishonesty, perform to his utmost ability as a physician, or do his civic duty in protecting the state and executing a citizen’s arrest.

Luthica Cyrellion

Teann Ch'i is an independent self-governing Kingdom consisting of 6 Towers spanning over the Agarian Scar in the name giving Agarian Desert, once stage to the terrible event commonly known as the Spellblaze. Rather secluded from the rest of the world, Teann Ch'i thrives advancement in unlocking the secrets behind Magic, forming Alchemy, Technology and combined, Magitek. Thanks to this, and the huge amount of magical resources generated by the Spellblaze, Teann Ch'i is, even in a desert, self-sustaining and trade is mostly done for the reason of self-protection.

5 of the 6 Towers are placed on the cliffs around the scar, while the 6th one, hold by strong supports, is located mid-air in the middle of the giant scar, accessible through bridges to every other tower. Each tower serves mainly, but not entirely, a different purpose, one being the living quarters, another one houses all the tools and machines to produce good for the daily needs, a third one dedicated to education and theoretical research, the fourth and fifth one specialized for more practical (and dangerous) research and execution, and finally, the Bibliotheca Machina, which stores all the acquired knowledge and alike.

The government is made up by a council of 6, multiple candidates chosen by popularity but ultimately succeeding through a range of aptitude tests. Those 6 can freely fill up positions under them as they see fit. While there is no nobility or no apparent caste-system, and ones fortune is entirely based what good they bring to the community, a few families have set themselves on the top, producing prodigies on a consistent basis.

A sound mind requires a sound body and thus, the teachings and life of a citizen of Teann Ch'i is one full of studies and duties, basic education like reading, math, magic and physics, but also sports and different martial arts are part of their training.

Basically, Teann Ch'i could nearly be called a Utopia as long as everyone pulls their weight. But those who don't, well, those are marked as misfits, falling behind in one or way or another means death, death or being send into the labyrinth. The labyrinth, with its principles of Equivalent Exchange being very similar to the teachings of Teann Ch'i, is seen as an object of high interest, and while brave conquistador join the dungeon on their own accord, those so-called misfits have either the choice of death or try their luck in the dungeon. This weed out is a socially accepted standard by the entirety of the tower.
Born into the Cyrellion family, Luthica was put under high pressure since young age, as their formidable efforts have put high expectations from sides of the community. But every family has a black sheep, and as it had to happen that roll fell onto Luthica. While she was gifted with the same genuine mind as her siblings, she had huge problems in theoretical studies, often falling asleep and other strange patterns of behaviour. While flaws could have been fixed, Luthica's could not, or at least she didn't want to, ultimately leading to her fall into the Labyrinth.

20-year-old Luthica has a head of her own and does what she pleases. Despite her rather timid look she can be very stubborn and hates following rules and alike. She can be very random from time to times and is capable of igniting the fury of the even most reserved elders. Rather carefree and happy in even the worst situations, Luthica is always forward-looking and can work as a strange emotional support.
