Hey, I'll be adding to the heaps of interest thrown this thread's way. I've got a few old characters in mind.

You guys are the best. <3 xD But no really, I feel better knowing that I'm trusted to keep it up even if it's not right away. And yeah, all can send in additions, go ahead. Unless we finish quickly, you'll have to come in the second entrance...

Better a slow and well run RP than a hastily done and sloppy one

Indeed. I'd rather it not end suddenly to poor playing as well. I suppose that goes on the parts of the roleplayers too.

Actually, don't worry about that too much Necro. Due to it's design of being in party-messages, it'll be very hard for a role-player to end this game, or even a group seeing as you all won't know who is where or even alive. Especially because I have an abundance of characters in queue right now, that it'll be hard to end... I feel so honored.

So, last night/morning at 4AM I finish folding laundry and typing to one of my friends, about to Skype him while I type up some RP-boom, Galileo style. I go upstairs for five minutes, return downstairs to find my internet no longer working and I work on it for an hour only to discover it was because of the Internet Service Provider, then I freak out because I have work to do here, panic until I fall asleep, then wake up and call my ISP... and he tells me to do the first thing I did last night... and it works...

I WAS SO SCARED YA GUYS.

Well I'm glad everything's okay.

Sent/Sending my first bio.

I'm going to hold off on adding more characters for now, though.

Mmm, respect; Taekwondo does on my list of top five most useful and favorite fighting styles. Anyway, I have a question for you all because as I stare at the PvP section of the intro, I feel it's wrong:

What are the most basic rules of all PvPs you've been in? I know that my most recent ones have ticked me off so I'm trying to iron out the basics to have less room for the stupidity, but at the same time I run new-style projects and story-driven RPs, not PvP and therefor don't trust myself.

Input will be noted and helpful. Btw, I'm not lying when I say i"m almost done. I'm like, so close. I just keep passing out too early to work effectively at night and only get to revise prior sections, though that may be all I need. I just feel like if I stop now, I'll be stopping short. Sigh. Anyway, yeah, PvP preferences and history, if you would.

A basic rule is no auto hitting so "Attempted to stab" would be acceptable. "Aaron shoved his blade through So-and So's abdomen the blade going through the stomach and out the back." that would not be acceptable. Unless it has been okayed by the other player. And the fight had been going on for a little while as well.

RULE 1: No autohitting. Basically a player may type that they're shooting at someone, but they're not allowed to type that they hit them. Exceptions to this are multi-hit weak attacks that could turn out to do nothing, but of course the effect of the attack is left up to the attacked.
RULE 2: No godmodding. If a player is shot by a gigantic fireball they won't shrug that off with no damage. This also ties in with autohitting meaning no 1 HIT KO's.

I would say those 2 rules are the most important ones in pvp. I would also say that the players fighting each other should at least talk it out a bit in PM if they want to.

Heh, looks like i hit the nail on the head... then a little harder than I was supposed to. Anyway, thanks guys. ^-^

SO CLOSE TO BEING DONE. This is seriously the essence of my sense of creation right now, so even my typing is being hindered by how much I'm thinking about this. Ughhhh.

I hope it lives up to you guys well, though. You've all been very accepting and mannerly, as well as supportive. I've been talked down to once or twice... but, that stopped and I feel better about creating again.

What might get you all, however, is the 'party' system. You will need to prepare for a whole new type of game-play in that set, and be prepared to be even more accepting than you've been of my unfortunately experimental mind. Lol.

PvP fighting is... eh.

Either you should agree with the person on the result before/during the fight, or a third party needs to step in to decide the path of the fight. Realistically speaking, if characters are balanced, then it'd be near impossible to check-mate someone. People have the advantage of lots of time to deduce and decide on what moves their character could possibly do to counter their opponent's. It quickly ends up nowhere if there's no way to decide when the battle should end.

Enalais and Ionion have gotten the two most basic rules of PvP combat.

Expanding on that toward basic guidelines: it's always a good idea for the two or more roleplayers in combat to contact each other and make an outline of the battle beforehand. As this isn't a tabletop roleplay with dice rolls or some kind of Video Game with its own built-in combat system, some discussion is always highly recommended. This makes for smoother roleplay and allows for longer, multiple-action posts.

It is slightly different in relation to GM controlled "NPC's" and Player Characters, as an NPC or set of NPCs are technically a "public use" set of characters. However, the owner/creator of the NPC always has precedent over their property.

Ultimately, Freeform Play-by-Post RP functions based on an honor system. It's expected to attack within reason or capability, and it's expected to receive those attacks within reason or capability. In other words: stick to what your character(s) know and can see, have your charaters do what they're capable of.

Holy-I'm-going-to-copy-paste-most-of-that Komamisa, thank you. I have everything basic, but the NPC part is entirely missing, so that will be helpful. Thank you.

If I may throw my two cents in there? I agree with Komamisa on the last paragraph. In my opinion you should not need to PM too much unless you are planning for further than the fight itself. I like to enjoy fights between players because it allows you to imagine what's going on and use your creative style against theirs. You'd be surprised the cool stuff that happens when two creative fighters are up against each other. It can get pretty fun when you let things roll. Of course this is all in line with the two rules that Ionion put out. No auto-hitting especially as it ruins the creative nature of such a fight and the other's ability to react. Always leave space for a reaction for their character.

Holy fu-... yeah. As long as it's properly submitted. I've been working on character leveling for days now so uhh.... expect some 'commands' rather than 'suggestions', because I'm wanting to start.... although I don't want to limit your choices, so choose who you want; a more powerful character will likely be a late entry.
