Legatus Name:
Cassius Lepidus

Legatus Age:
39

Legatus Origins:

Cassius was born and raised in Campania. He was raised by his father, a Praetor and Field Commander of a Roman Legion. Needless to say, Cassius was raised in the military tradition of Rome for he was expected to be an officer of equal or greater skill than his father. However, Cassius found himself entranced by combat. He found that there was no better test of a man than a test to fight for his life, a lesson that he learned during his youth when he witness a gladiatorial fight in celebration after the end of the First Punic War. Thus, Cassius grew up being one of the few major patrons of the growing gladiatorial phenomena. As his career as a junior officer during his youth, Cassius would bring back exotic animals and the occasional prisoner and have them used to create spectacles for the people. In addition, he would become one of the first people to open up a ludi in the region with the wealth he gathered from his campaigns. This passion of his would ultimately help garner public opinion and support, which ultimately helped lead to his somewhat recent promotion to Legatus.

Ok, new orders are up. Since I can't add new players into the OP, I went ahead and issued orders for Legio VII Argenteum and Legio II Victrix. Since this is LancerDancer's RP and I'm just filling in while he's gone, if he has any issues with your Legion Sheets, So Boerd and Heyitsjiwon, then of course you'll have to modify your particulars accordingly.

I think I got everyone taken care, but if I forgot something important, or left anyone out, just let me know.

@Dedonus-I don't know how many more players LancerDancer is looking for, so I'll wait to see what he says before issuing you orders.

Yes indeed, the terror is well deserved. I will say that even with four legions deployed to halt his advance, Hannibal should have no problem crossing the Rhone. Just saying. For realism's sake, perhaps those legions sent to face him should get their asses kicked? Mine included.

Maybe Rome wins a tactical victory (IE wins the battle), but suffers a strategic loss (Hannibal crosses the Rhone)? It could be that Hannibal sends a small force to engage the Roman forces while the bulk of his army crosses several miles away from the battle.

Hmm...If I look at this from pure army makeup we are outnumbered and outgunned, but can make this fight hell. Victrix has the siege equipment/Heavy ranged weapons to combat the elephants, and the Celeris Acuta would volunteer to skirmish with Hannibal to buy the main defense what little extra time it can with guerilla tactics (And then join the defenses), but what it comes down to is us being outnumbered and overrun-- or, at the least, failing to halt them at the river. We might be able to hold it for a short time, but their superior numbers just...are superior!

That said, they've (roughly, by no means did I clarify my math) 45-50,000 troops to our combined ~17-20,000. I vote we aim to make it hell and retreat.

The point of the Consuls sending us is to stop Hannibal. I don't think he would be willing to be bogged up in a costly battle like that, so it's not that we have to just set up and wait (which will allow him to just go around us). We have to engage Hannibal some how.

I'm all for the legions engaging Hannibal, and making a right-damn-good show of things. In my opinion, I think Hannibal should end up crossing the Rhone, and be deterred by the Roman army enough that he instead heads north, up the Rhone river valley. Incidentally, that's what happened in real life (at least the part about Hannibal crossing the Rhone and heading north).

On an important note for anyone that ever is in a collaborative situation with the Legio Sexta Ferrata, if a battle is about to ensue, whoever posts first please feel free to place my legion wherever you'd like. I don't have a lot of time to do true collab posts, so for expediency purposes, I have no problem with you guys putting the VI Legion in your posts so the situation makes sense. Whatever position you put them in (except for maybe presenting them as complete idiots--that might not be so cool) I can totally work with .

Hmm...I think I've thought out a reasonable plan for dealing with Hannibal. If you fellows are content with a route and a Carthaginian advance, that's fine by me, but I still love the idea of making Hannibal regret every step forward and changing history a bit. I know the built-up karma'll come back to bite my ass later though.

But I can't exactly go against the three of you-- so I'll conform if you fellas want the Celeris to go with your plans xD
