Hey, folks.
I've been playing through MGS4 recently, and I'm anticipating MGSV coming out next month too.
I've always been a fan of those games, and I like modern military-type settings a lot, though I find sometimes the plots and stories aren't very imaginative, which is one thing I love about Metal Gear Solid's world.

That in mind, I'm pretty interested in a game in a similar kind of world - one like our own, but more advanced and unusual technology, such as powered suits, advanced robotics, optical camouflage, genetic engineering, AI's and nanotech all being parts of the world, alongside - and, especially not outclassing - regular and well-known weapons and equipment.
I'd quite like to run a game which is like MGS, but is not MGS, so it wouldn't be based in that world, and would have it's own history and events, so we wouldn't have to be shackled or referring to things in that universe, or worry about those characters being around.
I also would not be using too many current events, and I will absolutely not be using the 'normal' bad guy nations that always get used as villains - Russia, China, Iran, blablabla, as that's just too dull.
Instead, the enemy will likely be an underground organization or mega-Corporation with it's own PMC's and significant assets. Bearing in mind that some large corporations regularly exceed the cashflow of countries annually, and employ more people than the population of some places, I don't see that as being too unreasonable - especially if we're going down the 'taking a twist on normal' angle.

The role of the PC's would be as a UN-Sanctioned multi-national group, specially tasked with investigating and potentially putting a stop to this groups activities, once they find out what they are. You'd have your own equipment, and some special abilities, potentially. Any other questions or ideas, I'm happy to field them - right now, I'd just be happy to see some interest in this.

I am definitely interested in this. I haven't played any MGS games but I've heard it's pretty cool and from what you described this sounds like it's going to be awesome!

You must live somewhere interesting if MGS 5 isn't out yet XD unless revengeance isn't considered number 5... God damn that name still sounds so bloody stupid! AUUUGH!

Anyway, I too am a big fan of metal gear solid and would be interested in joining in =3

These 'special abilities' you mention, would they be generally in the vein of those from MGS? Aka, power-like but not especially 'super powers'?

unless you count Revengeance, they get pretty thoroughly into Super-power level Cybernetic/Nanotech stuff in that one.

Revengence isn't considered Metal Gear Solid V. And it was thankfully called 'Rising' here in the UK instead of 'revengeance', which as you correctly say is stupid.

The 'Special Abilities' would be like the ones displayed by the various bosses and other 'unusual' characters in MGS, yes. So, they'd have some kind of at least vague explanation based in science or at least fringe science, rather than out-and-out super-powers. I would be avoiding going into what I see as the 'over-the-top' level from Rising/Revengeance, where you have people jumping on missiles and taking out massive robots with swords.
I'd prefer to limit the abilities to the bad guys, but players will have access to them as well, simply for balance and interest - though they'll be optional.

I'm glad there's two people interested - I'll keep my mind running and get more thought up for plot. Even if it's just the three of us, that's enough to start. More will be fine too, of course. :)
And rocketrobie, don't worry too much if you haven't played any of the games - being interested in the idea is enough, and I'll hunt you up some Youtube videos that will help!

Possibly interested. Not a MGS fan, but what your describing reminds me of a lot of military based near-future style sci-fi that I grew up with. Stuff like the first two Deus Ex games, before the reboot.

Ah, then I believe I have plenty of inspiration for things I could consider using XD

Also, yes, I thought it was very stupid that your 'tutorial boss' was Metal gear Ray, had a giant sword, and you actually 'throw' the damn thing into the air using that sword to do so... As 'actiony crazy shit' goes, it is entertaining, and I found blade-wolf to be remarkably adorable XD but I really do miss the properly stealthy air of Metal gear solid =3

I'll probably never play number 4 though, since it's exclusive to PS3 and I just have not the cash to spare for it XD

Yeah, as I said in the OP: It's inspired the type of setting of MGS, and some elements of the story, but isn't a game in that canon, it'll be it's own thing. And I'll be drawing in elements from a variety of other sources myself, as I read similar books and such as well, so hopefully it'll keep your interest too.

I haven't played Rising, but the style of gameplay, and the overall styling of the game kind of put me off anyway. More so after I read reviews of it, and a synopsis of the storyline - it just doesn't sound like my kind of game. Too flashy and stylized for me, and too over the top.

I'm playing through 4 now, as I recently got a PS3. I wasn't planning to for a while, but my GF and I found one for a good price in a local pawn-type shop, and decided to buy it on the spot, since we could afford it. We picked up some cheap games too.
I want to get hold of the Legacy collection, so I can replay the earlier games in HD, and also play Peace Walker and Portable Ops, since I haven't played either and they're apparently canon too, and MGSV carries on the same storyline.

i would like peacewalker, given i saw mention ofa 'base' and I like building bases XD but I don' thave a PS3, stupid exclusives!

And yeah, Rising got a LOT of shit thrown at it because it took metal gear out of the stealth theme and into the anime-like action heavy theme... It kindof makes a mockery of 'stealth' in some places, but overall it was fun, one just has to realize, a game series does not have to be restricted to only one style of game [I.e. Stealth for Metal gear, or 'survival horror' for Dead space... Dead space 3 hardly qualifies as 'horror' so much as just dark and full of shooting monsters XD]

Do you have room for one more? :). I haven't played any of the Metal Gear games, but I've heard good things about it (Except for Raiden's game...). I'm also watching someone do a playthrough of the Metal Gear Solid games. Having a military RP using that level of technology sounds very interesting.

Sure, no problem at all. As I've said to others, it's not a direct fan-verse game, just inspired by, so your knowledge of MGS isn't essential anyway, just an idea what to expect.
