Pretty sure that is far from my best post. But I promised one this weekend and I intended to deliver. :)

Hello, my fellow writers! So, I'm probably going to be tinkering with my first post over the next few days, though I'll mostly either be adding descriptive bits or rewording certain parts. I just love to tinker when it comes to writing. This does leave Riven with an arrow wound in her shoulder beneath the frozen surface of the moat. Now, I would say the Royal Protector could easily get herself out of this situation but she's injured. Also, she's wearing a chainmail belt, which has numerous pouches hanging off it, and has two iron swords dangling from her hips. Riven is a slender thing but all these factors are going to make it harder for her to get to the surface before she drowns. Taula and Sir are probably in the best position to help her out here, though I'm open to other ideas. I'm up for a collaborative post or whatever it takes to get my poor, disgraced character out of this pickle. Just let me know!

I've actually been ironing out some ideas I was going to fling at you and Nemisare....

Sir would be down for rescuing. And I like ideas, and collaborative posts. Yepyepyepyepyep :D I was thinking Sir would probably wind up saving one or the other, or both. Or well, saving in his mind, lol. Whether or not they actually needed the rescuing would be wholly debatable, likely. And whether or not he could manage both would depend on the archers on the walls, likely. He'd most likely go after Riven first, since he actually saw her jump. I'm not entirely certain if he noticed Taula... Which would, granted, make rescuing her difficult. :P

May I ask what people thought of my post?

My immediate answer to that question: poor stairs... :(

heh. I thought it was a nice blend of angry and sad and whoops, not always perfect that makes for a nice read. There was a wee bit of repetition with the word blood though. Hard to fix without going for metaphor or getting a bit less prosaic. Repetition is my bane with writing. I like that Lin'Lise is feeling less than happy with herself, but also thinking that Erasmus wasn't the strength or power she thought he was. Which is a nice contrast to everyone else getting angry about him being killed.

I'm getting a kind of pretentious vibe from some of these posts. I don't wanna point fingers, not because I don't want to be rude, but because I want everyone to be paranoid about it. ;P It's a hard line to tread, since it's supposed to be an emotional experience for the characters, and popular culture doesn't offer much inspiration for that sort of thing, that isn't ridiculous - I'm pretty sure I've crossed the line too, even though I'd like to think my writing has an air of self-awareness to it. This is a good thread - one of the best I've seen - but we've been congratulating each other a whole lot, and I don't want it getting to anyone's head. Least of all my own.

I'll be posting too, at some point in the near future. Any character that tarries behind is gonna get a flame lit under their ass, mark my words.

@ Maxwell: How dare you! Just kidding, though I'm curious as to what gave you that impression. Unless I'm grossly misinterpreting things, it seems like most of us are just interested in what people thought of our first posts. Personally, I feel like I'm great at conveying information, but I struggle a little bit when it comes to writing tracts of descriptive text. I'm more than willing to accept feedback, opinions, and suggestions on any aspect of my writing. It may just be a hobby but it's something I enjoy doing. Something I wouldn't mind getting better at. While I know this thread isn't a composition class, I don't see anything wrong with seeking out the opinions of other writers to see what we could do to improve. Obviously, if you don't ask for feedback then it shouldn't be given unless you're actively damaging the story. Again, this is my take on it and maybe I'm being incredibly naive. I don't claim to speak for everyone or anything crazy like that. Anyways, I also wanted to let you know I'll probably manage a post or two every week so feel free to fling Riven into the fire. Although, I will say, the situation she's in is a bit on the dire side already.

@ Acrolith and Nemasaire: Let's hear these ideas! I was thinking about this little situation and, honestly, Taula is probably closest to Riven right now. She's actually in the moat with her, I believe. Sir is still on the battlements. Again, I'm open to either character assisting the Royal Protector.

Agreed. I don't think anyone should feel pressured to hone their posts to perfection - I sure haven't been going over mine with a fine-toothed comb, and I don't plan to. I also don't plan to make 10+ paragraph posts, so no one has to feel pressured to do that either. ;P

@Maxwell: Posts IC or OOC? Or both? I think the size of the IC posts so far is probably partly due to them being introductory posts, helping establishing the scene. Or maybe from enthusiasm. So far, it's certainly been a great rp to read and write for. ;)

Also, are we doing posting rounds? I can't remember if that was ever brought up.

@Lexicon: That's a good point about Taula being closer, I hadn't thought of that. Of course, Sir can probably fall faster than Taula can swim to close the distance, but Sir hopefully won't be aiming right for Riven when he jumps. Mind, he might, since that would indeed be the ideal method of finding her, land on your target. Yep, that's how all great rescues go, right? :P I think this situation could certainly work well as a collaboration. See what we're working with and stuff.

@Lexicon/Nemaisare: I've sent you a conference style PM so we can collaborate heavily in our next posts as well as the bare bones of an idea. Looking forward to hearing what you all think.

Nemasaire: I'm not sure what you're asking, but I wasn't going to do rounds. Anyone is free to post when they feel like it, and I was planning to do likewise, fleshing out the world and your surroundings if I have nothing better to do.

Despite my description of it, you don't have to worry about dying from an infection just from touching the moat (though a normal person would probably catch ebola just from looking at it) - your plot relevance protects you. ;P

I think I was gonna say something else, but I guess I'll just edit it in later if I remember it then.

That answers my question quite handily. :)

Lol, deadly moat water. Turns into the mud puddle from that children's book. We need soap, stat!

So I am in an awkward situation. I posted having my character run into Chromane's, and you posted that his character had run through much of the castle?

What do I do now?

Wait for him to reply to your post. I've only covered one room he ran through, and said nothing about its placement, except that he's moved past it.
