Katie Lovelock - Running across the castle grounds on the way to Hagrids hut.

'Oh no.' she thought to herself 'I really should have gotten to sleep earlier.' Katie kept running across the school grounds and as the Hut came into sight she noticed a large crowd gathering outside. 'I hope I'm not late, I really can't afford to miss anything important on my first day' she mumbled to herself quietly.

As Katie approached the group she walked to one side of the group and looked around nervously for Hagrid; he wasn't there yet, but there were a lot of students. 'I wonder what's going on.' she thought 'first years usually don't even study magical creatures, must be something amazing if this many people showed up.' She proceded to then rummage through the mess in her satchel looking for her quill and parchment in case she would need to take notes.

Rubeus Hagrid
Outside Hagrid's hut
8:00 AM

Hagrid was inside his hut attending his fireplace as he was brewing red mountain-tea. He was busy heating the water and adding in brown sugar and the tea powder. When the water boiled he poured the tea into a big mug and held it with both his gaint hands. He blew a bit of air into the hot tea then bowed his neck to sip.

It was a perfect morning, all but for the sudden muffled chatter outside his hut, the sound of eager students conversing started to get louder. Hagrid got up upset, his morning ruined, and aggressively went to the door and swung it open.

There was a good amount of students gathering, first years looking at him in awe, sixth years avoiding his suspecting gaze, and some students who befriended him smiled at him. Hagrid scratched his head and walked down the steps.

"oh blimey! I forgot I had a free class today, wanted ter show you Scrubbles. He is a decent enough a creature, yer gonna like him. What time is it? We are not too late are we? Oh Gurggenheim will have me fer this."

A second year Ravenclaw eagerly replied, "8 O' Clock sharp sir."

"Good Good, we still have time then, alright ye eager lot, follow me and stay close. We goin' ter the forbidden forest, Scrubbles will be waitin' there."

Hagrid close his hut door and led the students into the forbidden forest, their destination was an open courtyard within the forest where he usually showcase creatures. The way through the forest was a bit foggy but safe as it was well illuminated by sunlight. It was a few minutes walks before they reached Scrubbles. Meanwhile the students were talking to each other, wondering what Scrubbles is.

Adelie suddenly felt a giant push and tumbled to the ground. Her cheeks became bright red as she landed, cursing out, ”’inkeypunks an’ pixies,” under her breath, turning and pushing her hair away from her face. She looked up at one of the Ravenclaw students, recognizing Scott fairly quickly. In the classes they both took together, they often joined in getting the better grades among their classmates. And she tended to notice academic excellence. Not as competition, but to admire it. So she smiled and just laughed a bit as Scott apologized and helped her up. She took his hand and shrugged a bit. ”’s’no problem,” she said friendly like, brushing herself off while he left to get closer to the hut.

Addy looked up from her now mostly dirt free robes to see Hagrid coming out of his hut. His surprise made her giggle, though when he said they’d be heading into the forest she hesitated. She hated that forest. She didn’t like to talk about why, but of course it all started with the fact that it was well… Forbidden! It was like breaking a rule to just go near it. She bit her bottom lip though, telling herself he was a teacher and it was daylight after all. No need to be a ninny.

Pushing her resolve forward she followed, trying to dissect what the half giant could possibly mean by Scrubbles. ”Scrubbles sounds like a rather ‘armless name… mus’ be quite a dangerous creature,” she smirked, speaking out loud just to those near her. By this, her last year, she’d learned no matter how cutesy a name Hagrid picked, the animal was more often than not something not furry and small.

Jordan Mason

Jordan reached Hagrid's hut and saw that a number of students had already gathered there. Even Hagrid himself was stood outside, talking to some of the students. She walked up to him and offered a customary greeting before he had them all walk into the forest. Jordan was quite familiar with the Forbidden Forest. She was a seventh year and a former Latner. She knew the forest like the back of her hand and it was one of the very few places that she could never get lost in even when she let her mind wander. Her feet seemed to know where to head. Perhaps it was some skill of the Latner family. They might have cut her off, but they couldn't take away the traits Jordan had inside her that made her one of them.

Soon enough, the group reached the clearing where Hagrid's creature was. Being a Ravenclaw, Jordan's first reaction was curiosity. The creature was unlike any she'd seen before. Scrubbles, that was what Hagrid named him. Jordan wondered why. Was some skill of Scrubbles' species scrubbing? Or maybe it was just Hagrid's own imagination at work. Jordan smiled to herself. The latter seemed the more plausible. She raised a hand up, ignoring some of the other students' whispers of her being overeager, and asked, "What species is he?"

As she waited for Hagrid's answer, Jordan let her eyes wander. The headmaster and deputy headmaster had yet to arrive. She briefly entertained the idea of them making a flashy entrance, but the deputy headmaster didn't seem like the type. The headmaster, though, seemed like he would enjoy the show. She smiled to herself again before returning her gaze to Hagrid, eyes sparkling with the anticipation for new information.

Elizabeth Fontaine

Beth shrugged at Vince. "I was occupied," was all she answered. She knew she should have taken the shot, but really, her mind was on other things. Most people would blame their miss on the distraction, but Beth wasn't like most people. Instead, she walked up to Ryan and dragged him towards the group of people gathered around Hagrid. She gestured for both Tessa and Vince to follow as she approached Hagrid. From what she'd heard, the creature was named Scrubbles or soemthing like that. It was weird and it made her giggle.

Releasing her hold on Ryan, she turned back to Tessa with a huge smile. "It's a weird name, isn't it?"

The group then moved inside the forest to meet Hagrid's new pet. Upon reaching the clearing where the creature was at, Beth giggled once more. It looked weird, and some of the other students seemed to be scared of it. For Beth, it just looked like an angry lump that moved in an odd manner. Besides, the name seemed inappropriate, which made the entire thing weirder.

Tessa Goffe - Hagrid's hut and the Forbidden Forest

Tessa scrunched her nose up and moved to the far side of her small, but growing group of friends. The couple of Gryffindor Quidditch team members being her reason. One of them, Jimmy she was sure, smelled like a rose bush distilled.

Hagrid stepped out of the hut and as confused as he was figured out what was going on. Tessa grinned at Beth and nodded. "I wonder what it is." She didn't have to wonder for long. The bright orange of the dog caught her attention first. It was a pitbull, but he was orange instead of white or black, or even brown.

"I've never seen anything like it." Tessa gasped. She wanted to pet it, but she knew enough about Hagrid's opinion of animals to not risk it without knowing more about the animal. Tessa had heard Hagrid had even taught about Hippogriffs, long before she had come to Hogwarts, and they were a XXX creature.

James MacFusty

Jimmy split up from his small group as Hagrid led them into the forest. Despite the fact it was usually Forbidden, he loved to go in during the wee hours of the morning and -- for lack of a better word -- adventure. Of course, he was really searching for the herd of unicorns that lived in there which he saw only once during his third year, not that he would admit it.

He wondered what sort of creature they'd be learning about... Maybe it was a dragon? Nah. It couldn't be too dangerous, given that Hogwarts was a school... Knowing Hagrid, it was probably something unique. Care of Magical Creatures always was his favourite subject.

His first thought upon seeing it was, Merlin, what even is that?; however after the surprise at its distinctly orange appearance, he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. It didn't look like something that could ravage villages and breathe fire.

Jimmy did have to resist the urge to go and run his hands through its fur, though.

Ryan Hallow

Ryan wasn't comfortable to walk closer to the hut, close between the gathering students. He had a numb feeling in his frame that held him back cold, but he was saved. A warm touch moved him, it was Beth. Full of energy he admired, he smiled as Elizabeth dragged him closer to the hut.

When Hagrid came out confused Ryan couldn't help but smile, he admired Hagrid, this was the first time he saw him since before the summer. Hagrid looked at Ryan and smiled gently. Afterwards the students were led by Hagrid into the forbidden forest to meet Scrubbles. The forest was a bit foggy, but overall safe and maneuverable.

The students gathered around as Hagrid stood and revealed a somewhat orange creature, a gaint dog with colorful orange fur. It had full black eyes, but as Hagrid's black beetles eyes they were warm and friendly.

Ryan turned to Tessa and remarked, "Niether I, it is quite impressive," he looked at Beth who was distracted by the creature, "and interesting. Beautiful." He smiled.

Katie Lovelock - Forbidden Forest

As Katie noticed the group following Hagrid from his hut and into the forest she stuffed her parchment and quill back into the top of her bag and followed behind the group and wondering what they were going to see. She always enjoyed studying creatures and was quite excited to see what Hagrid had to show everyone.

When the group arrived at the clearing where the creature was everyone seemed amazed by it; the creature looked like some form of dog, though it was much larger and orange. It was certainly a creature Katie had never seen before and it seemed like everyone else was in the same situation, though she couldnt help giggle at the thought Hagrid had just cast a charm on a dog at the last minute in a panic from forgetting he was taking a class.

Outside Near Hagrid's Hut

Esme was still thinking about ways to get back at that girl for what she did to her hair but then her trail of thought was interrupted. Walking beside her was David she responded to his hello with a "hi" in a slightly annoyed tone. She liked David and she usually wouldn't greet him in such a tone but he had interrupted her in midst of planning on of her biggest pranks yet. Taking out her little black book which had all her pranks in it she quickly jotted down her ideas and as she did so the letters rearranged themselves after all she didn't want anyone reading it. When David asked her who was to be her victim and what they done she jokingly replied "you and I don't need a reason you of all people should know that" she smiled and gave him a small chuckle after to let him know it was a joke. She actually liked David he was one of the few people who appreciated her work. Answering his question seriously she said "but seriously now, the person I'm after is Adelie she was the one who made my hair grow like this. Now come on we're late for Hagrid's class" and quickly ran off dragging David by the collar with her.

Esme quickly caught up with the rest of the students joining the back of the group. She could hear the students up ahead were amazed with the creature all she could barely see anything above the heads of her fellow students. So she moved around the side trying to get in a spot where she could see David's collar still in hand muttering "if it wasn't for that girl I would been here early and would have been able to see". Finally able to see the creature she was impressed by its size and it's great big fur looked so soft cuddly though she was going to wait for Hagrid to say it was ok. The one thing she hoped it didn't do was roll over.

David chuckled at the first, none-serious response. “Hey! That’s not fair!” he quickly responded about it. But in truth he never fully minded the pranks the girl would release on him. But when he heard that she was going to prank Adelle he got a little more serious. Thought before he could react she dragged him from his collar. All the way he was saying: “Hey no. Let go. Oh this is humiliating.” It wasn’t really humiliating. He just let it go. But all the way he was thinking.

In Slytherin Adelle was somewhat known. Mostly after she got hit by a Bludger last year. It was one of the many reasons why Gryffindor and Slytherin never really liked each other. On one side David thought that pranking her would be a bad idea. It was only the start of the year. If they already started pulling pranks on each other than by the end of the year not even each other’s dorm rooms wouldn’t be safe. On the other side. He was a Slytherin. She was a Gryffindor. They just had to annoy one another. It was part of being in Slytherin or Gryffindor.

Eventually she released his collar when they got near the creature. “Ohn. It actually looks kind of cute.” Then he inched closer to Esme and whispered in her ear: “The castle’s empty. Get the Quidditch chest. Hex a Bludger so it only flies for Adelle and release it. She’ll never see it coming but scream so damn loud.” He then looked back at the creature as if he never ever said something. Though in his mind he was doubting if the idea crossed a certain line. His ideas often crossed the line between funny and dangerous.

Elizabeth Fontaine

Beth turned to Ryan, feeling his gaze on her, and flashed him a brilliant smile. "You think Hagrid will allow us to pet it?" she asked both Tessa and Ryan. Her hand itched to touch the creature's awesome orange fur. While her opinion that the creature was super weird hadn't changed, she still wondered how its fur felt like. Somehow she imagined it to be like Diana's, so soft and silky. Standing up straighter, Beth almost skipped towards Tessa's side. She had let her eyes wander and saw a familiar face, someone she'd noticed around the school quite a few times before. She lowered her voice so that only she and Tessa would be able to hear, "Look who's here." A teasing smile was on her face as she looked at Tessa. She eyed MacFusty out of the corner of her eyes.

Tessa Goffe - The Forbidden Forest
"It is very interesting." Tessa said to Ryan. She shrugged and Beth's question.

Tessa was just about to ask Hagrid if she could pet Scrubbles, when her best friend in the whole world decided to point out what she had already noticed. The walking air freshener. Tessa decided it was high time to get Beth back for the teasing and she whispered back, barely audible, "Who the strange Ravenclaw boy who's following you around like a lost puppy?" Tessa returned Beth's teasing smile, nearly exactly the same as the older girl's.

Before Beth could say anything Tessa's hand shot up. "Professor, is it possible to pet Scrubbles? I mean do we have to bow to him like a Hippogriff or something?" She wanted to know, and she knew most of the rest of the class did too.

Hagrid

Some of the students started to show extreme curiosity for the awesome orange creature before them, its magical appearance and honorable stance was quite admired by the first years and the rest of the magical creature lovers. Some students were more than eager to touch Scrubbles. One even asked if they could pet him. Hagrid laughed it off and appreciated the lot's enthusiasm.

"Alright ye eager lil' things, make a line, yer gonna have ter make sure yer hands are clean. Don't want any sweat or dirt in 'em. Scrubbles might be playful and nice, but he don't like some dirty hands feelin' his fur."

The students were excited, they hurried towards each other, finally managing to make a line after a few yelling between opposing houses. The students each fwlt Scrubble's fur, each the creature reacted to differently. Hagrid commended those that had good reactions and cursed those that got tossed off into the trees.

Elizabeth Fontaine

Beth's eyes widened at Tessa's teasing question. "You mean Ryan? He's a friend," she answered with a dismissive wave of her hand.

As quickly as a snap of the finger, Beth's attention turned back to Scrubbles. Having given the go-signal to pet it, she waited for her turn. When she was next, she made sure that both her hands were spiffy, a huge grin on her face. She reached out with no hesitation and placed her hand on top of Scrubbles' head, stroking the creature's orange fur as she usually did with Diana. Scrubbles seemed to like it as it nuzzled Beth's hand, something akin to satisfied growling erupting from it. Happy with the reaction she received, she turned to her friends with a huge smile. "He likes me!" she announced enthusiastically.

Scott O'Riley

he had a positive reaction to her he had tried to replicate the exact same kind of motions. He had put his hand out to pet him but Scrubbles had stuck his whole hand on his mouth playfully since he never actually bit Scott.After having his hand released from his mouth be had been prepared for anything like this happening, so he took out a vial and took the slobber off of his hand, he had also noticed on his other hand that he had a single strand of orange fur which he collected also. Overall this class was everything that he could have imagined.

Jordan Mason

After some positive responses by Scrubbles towards the students in line before her, Jordan felt her nervousness fade away. Surely the beast wasn't as dangerous as it seemed if it reacted like a kind pet to the students. She noticed the student before her take samples of Scrubbles' slobber and fur, which she quietly commended. She didn't have time to dwell on it as she'd been pushed forward by the eager students behind her, and she found herself directly before the orange creature. She offered it a friendly smile and reached out a hand, ignoring the way it shook. Scrubbles must have not taken too kindly to her nervousness as he bristled and attacked.

The next thing that Jordan knew was that she was soaring through the air, passing by a couple of trees before a huge one cushioned her fall. Well, not exactly cushioned as she was almost certain that her spine had broken in half. Groaning at the pain that seemed to swallow her entire body, she heard some ruckus in the trees behind her. Somehow, she already had an inkling to who it was. With her cheeks flushed, she attempted to rid her hair of sticks and leaves. She had to at least look a bit presentable despite having been thrown twenty feet away.

"Hello, sirs," she muttered, knowing they'd be able to hear.

Ryan Hallow

The students started to eagerly form a line and slowly anticipated their turn to pet and touch the awesome orange dog. Some students were met with the amicable warble of Scrubbles and his tongue showering them with saliva, others had to quickly walk away at the defensive growls and attempts to bite. Beth had approached Scrubbles and she received a good reaction from him, when she came back smiling and announcing that Scrubbles liked her, Ryan hoped the same as he was up next.

Ryan slowly trudged towards the giant orange marvel, Hagrid gesturing with his hands for Ryan to pick up pace. Ryan folded his robes to cover his uniform, it was somewhat cold and bit foggy. When he finally was a few inches away from Scrubbles he looked at Hagrid, tiptoeing to get his sight across the orange fur.
"Hello Hagrid!"
"Hullo Ryan! How ye been?" Hagrid said with a smile.
"Great, been great Hagrid, you?" Before Ryan could nod at the end of his question, Hagrid moved around Scrubbles and pushed Ryan on his back.
"Come on! He is waitin' fer ye!"

Ryan's nose collided with the dog's fur, he let out a gentle sneeze and anticipated a blow from the dog, instead he was showered with saliva and the massive tongue traveling across his hair and robes. Hagrid laughed, Ryan moved back and took out his wand, he swished it and uttered a spell that made the saliva dry and fall on the ground. Hagrid commended Ryan and told him that he was liked, he was happy about it and hoped the rest of the school could show the same sort of acceptance and amity.

Ryan walked back happier, he smiled at Beth and Tessa, now his current company. Just when Ryan was about to poke Beth and tell her how awesome Scrubbles' fur felt, a Ravenclaw student was thrown off into the trees, he knew her, it was the unfortunate Jordan Mason. Some students giggled, others chuckled louder, Hagrid let out a sigh and admonished the dog.

Randwoth Gurgenhiem and Draven Eldridge

Professor Randwoth walked with the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, his own deputy, professor Draven Eldridge. The two caught up on the recent staff agendas of the past two weeks and discussed various trivial matters concerning the school. They also discussed the rumors of a band of dark wizards trying to form a coalition that has to do with the fallen Lord Voldemort. They are calling themselves 'The Legacy of Lord Voldemort', but so far it is nothing but Leaky Cauldron rumors.

The two walked through the main hall and checked on the students as they were having breakfast before finally walking out and have more talk with other staff in the courtyard. By the time Hagrid took his free class to the Forbidden Forest, Randwoth excused himself from the presence of the fellow instructors and walked with Eldridge to the clearing where Scrubbles was introduced to the students.

Randwoth decided to stroll with Eldridge instead of just teleporting there in surprise. Just when the two were walking between the trees and bushes a loud thump was heard and a student fell down from a tree, her hair tangled and messy, filled with leaves and broken twigs. The student was Jordan Mason, they had met her earlier this morning, she greeted the two in an embarrassed fashion.

"Ms. Mason, I didn't know you shared MacFusty's hobby of tree jumping." Randwoth laughed and helped the Ravenclaw regain her balance, he then took out his wand and performed a spell that eased her pain, "That should get the pain numbed until you get proper medical attention, Mrs. Pomfrey should be at the Hostpital Wing after this free class."
"Speaking of which," Draven had said.
"Yes, come Ms. Mason, we have a Hagrid to surprise."

Randwoth led the two back to the clearing where Jordan was shot from, there some students were petting Scrubbles, a more timid Scrubbles now. Randwoth walked through the students and appeared before Hagrid, smiling to a surprised half-giant gamekeeper.

"Morning Hagrid."
"Oh Blimey- I mean mornin' sir, mornin' professor Eldridge."
"What happened with dear Ms. Jordan?" Randwoth asked from under his glasses.
"Err, Scrubbles got a bit jumpy, shoudn't happen again professo'."
"Students look excited and curious, good, good. Carry on."
Hagrid nodded and gestured for the students to keep coming and taking their turns, Randwoth retreated back to a bench by the clearing and took a rest, sitting down, professor Draven standing by the bench. Jordan was still with them, Randwoth was aware of it, he was smiling, watching the students take their turns at Scrubbles.

Tessa Goffe
Rolled her eyes at her friend before getting in line to pet Scrubbles. The orange dog licked her hand happily. She wiped her hand on her robes once she was out of the pen area. Gave a wave to Hagrid and waited for Ryan to be done too.

She watched as a Ravenclaw was tossed by the dog. "Well that might have hurt." She winced a bit. Guess book smarts isn't everything. She thought. When the girl returned she came back into the clearing with Professor Gurgenhiem and Professor Eldridge. Tessa wasn't book smarts, she was much better at practical things.

She nudged Beth, "What are they doing here?" She really hoped this wouldn't end up being a surprise everything class.
