Well it honestly depends on how large the mech is, it could be an oversized suit or something the size of a mini bus, if it's a suit then suits it is but if it's the size of a mini bus it'll need rear support and an infantry team, is is standard in the armed forces when fighting in urban conditions.

I agree with the whole mechanized infantry concept. While I'd be privy to either, using both in conjunction would definitely give the setting some extra meat. I don't really see any major issues with the concept, besides the fact that the GM would rather not combine them. Which, in my opinion, is a shame.

After some consideration, I decided we'll most likely be integrating some infantry and other support roles into the unit, since a mechanized infantry unit would make the most sense.

Just an idea

Lol, now there's the whole deal about hashing out roles, I'd assume a that we would have at most 2 or 3 mecha, so our people who want to do infantry can be infantry, and our people who want to do mecha could do mecha.

I would personally he interested in piloting a mecha, but I also have several character concepts for infantry as well

We have a massive, massive split here I can feel. Now personally, I don't feel offended by mecha, but the way I see it is this- we can't dominate our RP with them, nor with just infantry alone. Perhaps a get-between works well. For example, say one 10 foot mech, that happens to be the "IFV" like tool of the squad, the piece of kit that brings heavy firepower but isn't perfectly suitable for CQC. Then scale it back to maybe two mechanized suits, about 7-8ft in size, that are between that. They're far more mobile but carry less armor and weaponry, being perfect for street-to-street fighting closer to an infantry team. Then the infantry themselves perhaps use exoskeletons, as a far more nimble way to move through an urban environment, to basically enhance jumping and strength-based abilities. It's just figuring out how this all works in a tangible context- if we have too many mecha pilots for example, suddenly infantry sort of become irrelevant, while too many infantry kinda make the former a situation that is inverted. I'd like to see a neat fusion of the two, as I assume this orbital team will be stretched supply wise, and any mechs dropped will literally have to be almost like the Airborne Tanks of old- lightweight, compact and deployable alongside other airborne forces.

I'm not sure what massive split you're talking about is, it seems to me that the general consensus was that mechs would be in support/not the focus. As far as deploying the troops and mecha, I'd assume the infantry are deployed either by dropship or Halo style drop pods. With the mechs, I assume they'd also use drop pods, similar to those Zaft/Zeon pods used in gundam to deploy teams of 4 Ginn/Zakus.

As far as the type/size of mechs used, that remains to be seen, though I am in favor of exoskeleton-like units for the infantry to use.

I would think they would walking tanks, kind of more like big slow moving defensive buildings they could be used as support and have a Pilot, Gunner, and mechanic on board to keep them moving. I was thinking at most the would be twenty-five feet tall and be kinda of wide and be more like tanks that walk rather than fast mechs with swords, I'm thinking more like mobile artillery rather than smaller assault mechs. But who knows maybe we have bunch of different mechs with us.

...My head hurts...
BUT I HAVE AN IDEA I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE!!

infantry- non meahc pilots
Whatever we call our ground meahc forces
Maybe air support mecha
Ground support mecha, like tanky, large, bulky mecha
Siege Meahcs- long distance cannon equipped mecha or sniper mecha.

Then have a squad of 6 to 8
Engineer
Captain
2 or 3 Ground Mecha Pilots
2 Ground Support Pilots
2 Air Support Pilots
Infantry

Mabye something like this will work, but maybe in a larger scale, you can have multiple squads or just one, were the whole rp will focus on one large squad were we all will choose on role.

so... 8 person squad....
1 Captain + 1 Engineer + 2 Ground Mech + 2 Ground Support mecha + 2 Air Mecha?
thats 8 already. And there's no infantry at all. This would be a build for a full on mecha RP....

.... That is what infantry means.. I'm saying your idea for a squad composition leaves no room for infantry.

If there were 8 of us, I think a better ratio would be 2 or 3 mecha alongside 5 or 6 infantry

I could live with that, but I would personally want more mechas, maybe more squad members?

When I did Cav in the desert. We had 2 Strykers and 4 Humvees backed by infantry, Humvee roles were fast attack, rapid deployment, as well as transport. While Stryker roles were fire support, IED destruction, and mobile cover. Infantry did whatever infantry did. But if we were to do this with mechs you can possibly have upwards of 2-4 light mechs built for harassment and speed and 1 or 2 heavier ones to be used as cover for infantry as well as fire support.

Like I said earlier, there is a split, clearly. So I mean, the ratio of 1:8 of mech:infantry seems about right to me, perhaps two squads of infantry (some NPC'd) or 1:6 tops is the best shot. OR, that quote above, as was mentioned- that is probably the best solution.

Yeah, I see the split now, from reading the opinions of other posts from the first page, I was under the impression that most of us were about on the same page
