Angels and demons are not supposed to do more than suggest, give little pushes that send humans towards the light or the dark, but lately neither side is playing by the rules. Possession is supposed to be a nono on both sides, but its happening more and more often and therefore someone has to do something about it. This is where the Sensitives and Gate Keepers come into play. It's the Gate Keeper's job to see to balance, to make sure no one is breaking the rules and if they are the Gate Keeper sends out Hunters to take whatever naughty demon or angel is breaking the rules back to its respective boss in Heaven or Hell.

However, this has put Sensitives at an awkward position. Sensitives aren't supposed to see the things they see and as humans they aren't held to the usual rules, that makes them dangerous. No one knows exactly why a person is sensitive except that usually you're born with it because a parent was sensitive or maybe you came close to dying or did die and came back through life saving means and it triggered you? As a Sensitive you either go insane and end up in an asylum or on medication the rest of your life, or you accept what you see and are expected to take a side... Which means either demons or angels will be on your ass depending on the side you chose. Unfortunately, if you take a side you're tipping the balance and you piss off the Gate Keepers and end up hunted by them as well. Either you play the game by the Gate Keeper's rules and mostly stay out of the cross hairs or you're likely to be turned into a Hunter yourself, which means your soul will be ripped out and trapped in his collection and you'll be a puppet... fun stuff.

On to explaining the Fallen...All it takes for an angel to fall is for them to give in to any of the seven deadlies: lust, greed, envy, wrath, pride, sloth, or gluttony (which in this case means over-indulgence since Angels don't eat). Once an angel becomes Fallen they have 100 years from the time they are cast out live, over that time their feathers begin to fall out and they lose the ability to fly and their powers weaken. Once all the feathers are gone they die... and cease to be. The only way to avoid that outcome is to choose a side, either you spend your time trying to be absolved of your sins with no guarantee of success or you choose to go dark and start eating souls to extend your life... therefore slowly becoming a demon. Like demons Fallen can make contracts with Sensitives, the premise being that for their protection they either get the Sensitive's soul at the end of the Sensitive's life to extend their own or for the possibility of forgiveness if they give their lives to guard someone else's. Fallen have their own physical bodies and can be seen by normal people but use glamor to hide what they are.

If you choose to be a demon, you'll be contracted to one of the Sensitive players. If you want to play an evil demon with no contract that's fine, however... you'll have to be possessing someone in order to be walking about... You can't cross fully over without a contract enabling you to do so.

If you're an angel then you should know that for you it is against the rules to do more than observe and give guidance, you can't openly protect a human without risking your wings since Gate Keepers can make you Fallen also if you piss them off. Sensitives are the only ones who can see you aside from demons and fallen. Normal humans can't.

If you're a Sensitive then you'll be taking a side or trying to play middle ground... or maybe you just recently started being able to see because of some near death experience...

Angels and Demons -You get one original power governed by your Virtue or Sin and whatever your Virtue or Sin is is what you're strongest at pushing others towards. Both have powers of suggestion (which means they can put an idea in someone's head and the more weak willed the person is the more likely they are to follow through) and where angels can inspire humans to goodness, demons do the opposite. Both can effect emotions, pushing people good or bad ones depending on if they're demon or angel. Both can heal themselves and others if they wish. Angels can touch people and make them fall asleep, demons can touch people and give them nightmares. Both can be killed by incineration, decapitation, or removing their hearts but when they die they just go back to Heaven or Hell.

Fallen - Three original powers, healing yourself and others. You can no longer influence others emotions and you've lost the power of suggestion. However, the three powers you have don't have limits by Virtues or Sins. The closer to one side or the other you are should be what your powers are based around. Your downfall is that all your powers consume large amounts of energy and the grander the power the more energy consumed... the more energy you lose the more feathers fall out. They die by beheading, removal of the heart, or incineration and cease to exist. The only way they go to one place or the other is if they claim their contracted Sensitive's soul or give their life for that Sensitive in an act of selflessness.

Sensitives - You can see angels, demons, and fallen for what they are. You can be trained to exorcise demons, absolve fallen of sins, and banish angels. You can contract with demons and fallen, and gain guidance from angels. Some Sensitives can read the recent past or soon to be future off of objects, some sense when something supernatural is coming their way, some can see auras allowing them to know when a person has been influenced or possessed by an angel or demon, some can read surface thoughts of other people, intention, or strong emotions. They die as easily as other humans.

Personality: Quiet, stern, even tempered, never looses his cool and keeps his voice quiet even when angry, confident, and can seem unfeeling but he isn't.

Abilities: (The Keeper is purposefully overpowered as I'll be GMing through him, don't worry I won't abuse it.)
Hunters - By tearing the life energy or souls out of angels, demons, and humans the Keepers can create Hunters. They cannot be killed as their body is basically just a shell. If you destroy them they reform themselves after a time, their restriction is that they cannot withstand daylight or hallowed ground. They cannot think for themselves and answer only to the Keepers.

Balefire - They can use bits of their soul to fuel an attack that will obliterate any being it touches even slightly. It destroys the being completely so there is no chance at another life, they cease to be. Unfortunately, the more they use the ability the weaker they become and the more they fade away... Once the soul is used up completely they cease to be.

Duel Natured - As a Keeper he can use the base abilities of both demons and angels.

Rending the Vale - As a Gate Keeper Ruben has the ability to open the Vale and form gateways to Heaven or Hell.

Though Keepers can be killed the same way as the angels and demons, they will simply reform their bodies unless their souls are taken. They're basically immortal so long as their souls are maintained. Most of the time, the Keepers keep their souls apart from their bodies in order to protect themselves from final death.

History:
After thousands of years on the earth Ruben is still the youngest of the seven Gate Keepers. His views on things are therefore a bit more flexable. He's lived long enough that he has seen both sides ignore the rules that govern them, abuse their powers, and he has seen the Gate Keepers do nothing because of bribery or their own blind pride... He sees the world's balance tipping and there are far too few Gate Keepers to keep things in check and so... he broke the rules. As a Keeper it is his job to stay out of human affairs, he is supposed to maintain the balance and the rules... nothing more. Yet, he'd seen potential in the Sensitives where others dismissed them. So, when he was wandering the mortal plain and he'd come into contact with a sickly young girl who'd smiled up at him when she shouldn't have seen him at all he'd told himself it wasn't a softness for the child, a stirring of emotion in a long dead heart... He told himself it was curiosity, nothing more, that made him save her. He'd laid his hands on her and he'd taken her illness into himself... a body that could fight such an ailment for eternity. Then, he'd watched her over the years and seen her talents grow. In the meantime there was another Sensitive drawing his attentions, John Constantine. There was word of him, a Sensitive who was sending demons back to hell and angels back to heaven just for fun. The night Shae had met with the demon, Ruben had made his decision... He'd collect the Sensitives, he'd train them... There were so many that just maybe, he could restore balance with their help and save a rotting world from destruction.

Personality: Quiet, broody, short tempered, stubborn, determined, can seem stand-offish towards others... until you get to know her. Under her frosty exterior is actually a kind hearted, protective, and mischievous person. She softens a lot around Ruben but only minutely as she is obsessed with pleasing him, she sees him as a father.

Abilities:
Like all Sensitives, she can see the truth lurking behind the vale... If she looks hard enough she can see through the human disguises angels and demons wear.
She likes to draw and the things she draws sometimes come true, she doesn't realize she is drawing bits of the future or past and she can't do it on purpose.
If someone touches her she can sense their emotions.
She was trained by Ruben to exorcise lesser demons and banish lesser angels. She knows basic protection against either being, wards in many different runes, and holy symbols.

History:
Shae was only four when she started seeing things, it happened after she'd been diagnosed with leukemia. They tried chemo, it didn't help. Her parents tried to give her as normal a life as possible and one evening when she was out with her parents shopping, she wandered off and ran into Ruben. The Keeper, usually unswayed by mortal issues, broke one of the oldest laws for his kind... don't interfere with human lives. Her parents found Shae alone, passed out in the food court with no memory of what had happened but the next month her results came back... She was in remission and it never came back. Shae lived her life after that being medicated for the things she saw until she learned to pretend she didn't see them anymore... Until she could pretend no longer. One night, she'd been headed home from school and heard a commotion in an ally. She'd gone to look and found a woman being assaulted by a man who was mostly hidden in shadow. However, when she called out to him prepping to use her pepper spray her father had given her, he'd turned and she'd seen his face... and what he really was. The demon abandoned the woman and came after her, thankfully Ruben had been watching her since that day in the mall. Hunters came and tore the demon apart in front of her, ripping him limb from limb and scattering the pieces. She'd stood shaken and in shock until Ruben had stepped seemingly out of thin air and dismissed the creatures. He told her it wasn't safe for her anymore, that she needed to go with him and she went willingly after he altered her memory so that she believed her parents had died in a car crash two years prior. She has been considered missing since age 12... Since then she has been training with and working for Ruben, helping maintain balance.

APPEARANCE: Handsome, as pictured. Tall, lean and lanky, with scruffy black hair and a blinding white smile. His eyes are particularly unsettling and inhuman, a pitch-black colour that are simultaneously flecked with gold while not allowing any light in whatsoever.

To the naked eye, his wings are non-existent, sealed into an elaborate tattoo on his back that only supernatural beings (including sensitives) can see. He uses it to keep a track of his impending demise. The illusion is stronger than others, concealing rose-red wings that, as the feathers begin to fall off, turn grey.

PERSONALITY: In general, Malphael is charming – if a little quirky. He is a smooth-talker, a wordsmith, and often uses verbose language even when he ought not to. He admires and hoards the finer things in life selfishly, from jewellery and fine clothes to beautiful people (not just in appearance); however, he goes through periods of crippling guilt and self-loathing as a result. Even so, Malphael considers Falling to be the best thing that ever happened to him, allowing him the freedom to experience things like the strong emotions love and hate. He is weak-willed and indecisive, wanting both to return to his angelic ways by repenting for his sins and continue his hedonistic lifestyle all at once.

ABILITIES:
Healing – The natural ability to heal himself and others. Not very good at the latter.

Empathy – A strange version of empathy wherein he can only feel others' physical pain and lust (for anything). With permission, he can transfer it to himself. This is useful because he has a uniquely high tolerance for pain and torment as well as impeccable self-restraint after a year of debauchery. It is somewhat related to his willpower as a former angel of abstinence.

Conversion of Energy – Waste not want not. Malphael can take some of the life-force of a creature or plant and bolster himself with it; however, if it is capable of conscious thought he requires permission or an understanding first. This storage of energy allows him enhanced physical speed and supernatural endurance at the cost of reducing his remaining lifespan just as his fallen abilities would.

HISTORY: Malphael is (or was) a relatively young angel, particularly immature and not entirely devoted to his code of strict rules. He abstained, as commanded, from everything that could lead him into sin and ruin. Before falling, he had never experienced strong emotions because there was no need for them. After a few years of merely observing the human world, he began to influence it, if only in tiny ways – good ways, like saving a man from the grip of alcoholism via prophetic dreams. His work was a matter of pride for him, though it didn't quite lead him into sin directly.

Eventually he came across Evangeline, his first experience with a sensitive. Her piety attracted him first of all: she was a Christian girl with far too little confidence and a problem for him to solve. Normally he wouldn't have even considered helping but Malphael was leaning towards various sins anyway, particularly lust and envy, so he decided to wing it and hope for the best. He took away her problems (or more accurately, took her away from her problems) shortly before being cast down for one misstep too many.

The first year of freedom that followed was fun, an entirely new experience for him as he committed various crimes and accumulated enough money to help his sensitive through university and life in general; however, he is beginning to regret it... if only because he believes Evangeline has a chance of ascending to a higher plane of existence after her life is over and he cannot risk his actions corrupting her. As a result he is not contracted to her, though he has pledged to protect her.

NAME: Evangeline Spears

AGE: 18

APPEARANCE: As pictured. Blonde hair either in a plait or left loose, often seeming like it has never been brushed ever. Her eyes are grey with particularly narrow pupils. She has many, many freckles.

PERSONALITY: Evangeline is truly innocent, almost as if she'd never experienced evil in her life. She devoutly believes in the healing power of forgiveness and refuses to hold grudges. She is kindhearted almost to the point of silliness; a vegetarian because she doesn't want animals to suffer, poor because she gives money to every charity case she sees, lacking in confidence because she is certain that others are better and more worthy of miracles than she is – she'll even say as much.

Ultimately she cares very little about her life and her future and is quite self-destructive in that. Having realised that her romantic ideals are just that – ideals – she is only now beginning to let go of her hero-worshipping tendencies and replacing them with a depressing fear of being alone forever. Evangeline is surprisingly fragile in her psyche and the only thing holding her together is the promise of becoming an angel after death, just as Malphael says.

ABILITIES:
Sight – Like all sensitives, Evangeline can see the true forms of angels and demons as well as being able to sense nearby supernatural creatures.

Psychometry – People (and angels, demons and fallen) leave imprints of memories behind on whatever they touch. If Evangeline touches something, she often receives a brief flash of memory if the object in question is associated with a time of strong emotion. Often when Evangeline comes into physical contact with another person, she experiences a glimpse of an event in their lives and can quickly build a picture of someone's true nature.

Runes and Rituals – Evangeline is not half-bad at banishing angels, though her work with demons is limited.

BIO:
Evangeline was a straight A student, a hard-worker if not naturally intelligent, but she had few friends – mostly for the reason that she didn't want anyone to know how excruciatingly lonely and difficult her life was under parents that didn't care. She took refuge in her favourite subject, history, and near the end of her high school career she had hopes of going to university that were dashed quickly by a lack of funds and no applicable scholarships. In addition to this, she was considered a burden in her household, so she locked herself in her room all day and tried not to be a bother.

It was during one of those times that she came across Malphael, an angel who was just as surprised that Evangeline could see him as she was. To the pious Christian, it was simply an act of God, a miracle that he was sent down and just happened to come across her, and so began the endless hero-worship. It was only made stronger when he practically gave up his immortality and powers to save her from a life she hadn't even considered to be all that bad. She ignored his criminal actions and drinking and often despicable actions (not towards her) and simply followed blindly as he began to teach her everything she would need to survive as a sensitive.

For the past few months, she has been living her life under the belief that if she stays as she is (pure, untainted, not evil) she has the chance of becoming an angel after death. Whether this is true or not is unclear; however, it is slowly getting harder to resist the temptations life throws at her.

Appearance:

Personality: Not one of the most sociable people, especially after entering medical school where he spent the majority of his time focusing on studies. Typically serious about mostly everything, both in work and in his freetime. Still he can easily goof around, losing much of his hardened appearance, just almost never in the presence of others as he cares very much about appearing professional. Michael has a very strong sense of empathy towards others, this was actually the main driving force of him joining the medical field in the first place, none of the prestige or pay mattered much in his decision.

Abilities: On top of the standard sensitive powers, Michael is also able to see the vital life force of living creatures. While at first he had no control over it, he has been able to stomp down the power from constantly interfering with his daily routine. When focusing hard enough Michael can see a type of aura emanating from anything that is living, this also includes plants. As something comes closer to death, its vital aura slowly dissipates before completely vanishing at the exact time of death. There have been benefits to this ability, as a paramedic being able to tell how close a patient to death has definitely been a boon, however at the same time Michael doesn’t see death the same way anymore since it has lost a lot of its mystery and simply is no longer as sensitive to it. Michael has not received formal training in any kind of banishment, so of course as such cannot perform the act on either an angel or demon.

History: About a year ago Michael graduated, and soon after found a job as a First Responder at a hospital. Through the months after starting Michael experienced first hand the many different injuries that the human body could endure, bites, third degree burns, broken or even missing limbs, heavy lacerations, horrible infections, gunshots, and… well there’s no need to mention any more. One night while on call Michael’s life changed for good, while responding to a dispatch the ambulance he was assigned to skid toppling over into a series of devastating rolls. The frame of the ambulance was completely crushed, everyone dead except Michael of course, who beyond logic managed to survived only barely hanging on. There still is no official reason why the ambulance crashed, but most believed it was due to reckless driving, fortunately for Michael he never got to know the driver.

The next two months Michael stayed in intensive care at the same hospital he worked for. Again luck was on his side, after finally being discharged there were no permanent injuries most had healed by that point. It was only then that Michael noticed a change, he could see death, maybe not the actual entity but the life that remained in something. At first it was horrible, just dreadful to know when someone was going to die, but after sometime living with his newfound power Michael started to take advantage of it. This insight drastically improved his ability to save lives, medical technology still only has come so far, but now being able to accurately judge someone’s condition he can take the proper steps to ensure they survive. Currently Michael continues his work, now completely adjusted to the change in his life, the power to see death completely natural. Still he has no knowledge of demons and angels, but that ignorance would not last much longer…

Union came into existence not too long ago. Its unique fusion of two bodies into one was the product of the work of Absalom. This angel, a Dominion and a watcher of America's ruler, felt that in the wake of the Cold War the battle against hostility, cruelty, and prejudice need be renewed once more. To that effect, Absalom created eleven unique (read: slightly monstrous) angels -Powers- to oversee the balance and foster friendship among the people of the Western hemisphere. These eleven Powers were given titles to reflect their purpose, but no real names; those, they found within themselves. Those Powers were assigned to different areas; Accord to Mexico, Goodwill to Canada, Regard to Cuba, Coalition and Solidarity to Russia, Alliance to the United Kingdom, Sympathy to France, Clemency to Spain, Support to Central America, and to the United states went Cherish and Union.

The two-headed angel of compassion found its work cut out for it. The evils of people were great, and using solely the power of empathy to try to change this sorely tested Union's patience. Several times, Zander's more aggressive temperament nearly doomed them both, but each time Zoe's restraint prevailed. Union wandered the country, whether invisibly in its true form disguised. Aside from the occasional run-in with a demon and a solitary meeting with Cherish, nothing particularly out of the ordinary happened to Union. That changed, however, when Union met its first sensitive. This sensitive was a gregarious, mustache-bearing baker called Brian Hewdraw who had become an acquaintance of Zander and Zoe's over the course of a few days they spent in disguise in his town. By accident he found the two in their true, united form, and though he was initially frightened by Union's appearance, after an explanation brashly chose to confide in the angel and ask for its help with his wife. Rather than risk retribution by getting involved, Union instead spent a rough week helping the sensitive realize his own abilities—and that it was he who would have to make a difference. After a particularly grueling session, Brian fled to his apartment on the verge of a breakdown, morosely convinced that he was a lost cause and that Heaven couldn't help him. Upon seeing him vent his anger, his wife fled, with the her husband in pursuit. Outside, in the pouring rain, he slipped and stumbled in front of an oncoming car.

While not seriously wounded by the relatively slow-moving vehicle, Brian was stunned. His wife, shocked by the event, stopped running. As Union watched, she returned to her husband's side, kneeling and mingling the rain with her tears. Also believing his death was imminent, Brian lay there quietly. Seeing its chance, Union moved forward and whispered in Brian's ear. At the Power's urging, Brian shared his innermost feelings with his wife, and in that moment Union knew that the two were together again. Full of happiness, Union realized that Brian would be a true believer in the power of compassion for the rest of his life, a veritable agent of the angel on Earth. With this in mind, Union stayed with Brian until the next day, and in the hospital bid him farewell. Union then set to find other sensitives -other untapped potential-, make them aware, and hopefully recruit them to the side of light.

Name: Ignavas – Will allow people to call him ‘Ig’ if they so desire.
Race: Sloth Demon
Gender: Male
Age: Appears to be in his early-twenties.

Appearance: Ig rarely has a consistent outward appearance, more than often little details slip with each passing day, or even hour if he’s feeling particularly lackadaisical, but the look he’s settled on recently is that of a somewhat androgynous young man at 5 feet 8 inches. With his deep blonde hair tied up in a ponytail down his back, his face clean-shaven and diamond shaped, eyes hazel with a tired glaze to it, and clean olive skin with few blemishes. His clothing doesn’t seem to change much, either a black or grey collar bullet-up shirt along with beige trousers – these will all usually be somewhat messy and ragged.

His actual form may be even less well defined than the appearance he outwardly gives. Staring at him in his true form is akin to trying to make out someone on a TV which is giving out enough static to see that they are in fact there, but too much to make out any real features. It is a confusing experience of looking at a being which seems to constantly shift and morph in appearance – enough to make any normal human insane if you were to stare for too long. The one and only thing that you can properly see are two white, pupil-less eyes that never blink.

Personality: Ignavas is not so much actively malicious as he is apathetic towards his actions and surroundings. He feels the exact same level of pleasure from destroying a life to saving one – absolutely none at all, and as such, he feels extraordinarily little need to do anything aside from what he thinks is completely necessary. For the most part, Ig is just lazy, preferring to do things on his own time or just manipulating other people to do it for him. However, when he perceives a situation as imperative, then he quickly turns into an incredibly effective and utterly ruthless being – if just for the sake of getting everything over and done with as swiftly as possible.

In normal conversation, Ig will generally be polite, soft-spoken, relaxed, and fairly amiable, but when talking to him one can’t help but get the feeling that he isn’t on the exact same wavelength as everyone else – even to another demon. As if he isn’t quite looking at the same thing you are, or that he’s hearing the conversation just that bit different enough from you that his responses feel distinctly off centre.

Abilities:
Inertia – Merely being around Ignavas will gradually increase your fatigue and general disorientation, more so in weaker willed people, making people more susceptible to persuasion or suggestion. Being around him for at least half an hour is enough to flat out knock out the strongest of humans – that is, unless he consciously increases or decreases the effects of the power. If his power is focuses on, he can actively confuse and addle even the best of minds to the point where they wonder what it was they were doing. This requires quite a lot of concentration of Ig’s behalf which he rarely feels like doing. He can also, if he wishes, decrease the passive effect this ability has normally if around people he actually wants to pay attention – which also requires him to focus.

History: Ignavas’ grip on his past is akin to a painting smeared with multitudes of random colours to the point of sheer incomprehensibility – as if there was something grand and epic coated there originally, only for it to be tainted and blurred over. Far from an amnesiac, Ig’s life has more or less converged together rather than be outright forgotten. He feels that he is at least older than 150 based simply on conjecture of the few things he does remember, and he thinks he was human once but any real details are so far off they may as well not matter. Years and decades of indifference and complacency has lead to what can only be described as a creeping inner death – a slow destruction of cognitive thought or emotion. Ig’s days blend into each from simply not caring enough to stay focused, going through his tasks as if he were permanently stuck on autopilot.

This has led to a rather tenuous grip on reality and time – he often seriously questions to himself whether he actually exists at all, and that if he does exist, he wonders if the demonic being known as ‘Ignavas’ has any real definable sense of ‘self’ in the first place. These thoughts have increased in severity as of late, leading to one of the very few genuine emotions that Ig has felt in a long time: fear. Fear that one day he will simply fade away from existence without a single being knowing or caring – and fear that such concepts do not even matter to someone such as himself. As such, Ig has decided to try and play a bigger part in his interactions with the rest of the world – namely, in that of the struggle between the angels and the demons.

Race: Angel(Mercy - The Angel of Death, providing mercy to those departed souls prior to their judgement)

Appearance: Stands about 5'7", black hair and brown eyes. Azra possesses large translucent wings that are capable of going from completely invisible to solid white feathered wings.

Personality:

History:
Unlike many of her fellow angels Azra had once been a human, living in the era of Greek expansion. Born a peasant of Corinth, Azra was able to see departed souls from an early age. A skill is would later learn signify her place in heaven. Around her 20th year Greece experienced an increase of demonic activity. Azra herself was specifically targeted. Experiencing many temptations in order to sway the use of her power to their side. Though she did not falter, Azra suffered for it, being branded as an evil spirit by the humans around her. She was eventually executed after sever torture.

Upon entry into heaven Azra was given the place in heaven of an Archangel, tasked with testing the souls of those newly departed and delivering them to their appointed destination. Over the many Millenia Azra watched over the humans, inspiring acts of mercy and valor in times of war. Providing comfort and rest to the weary souls of those effected by that most deadly of human innovations. Over the years she became known by many names in as many nations, Azreal, Valkyrie, The Reaper, Judge. Despite the solace such things gave her Azra could never fully purge the indignation from her own soul over her mortal death.

Abilities:
Empathy - Is capable of sensing the emotions of the recently dead as well as darkness of those demons around her, even the unseen.
Exorcism - Though unable to experience death, demons and to a certain extend, fallen, fear the power appointed to Azra. Making her capable of casting out the demonic and purging their darkness from the area. However, higher level demons are resistant even to her.
Soul Collector - Is capable of severing the final thread of life between the soul and body, testing the individual and determining their destination. Providing escort between the plains of existence.

Personality: Quiet, stern, even tempered, never looses his cool and keeps his voice quiet even when angry, confident, and can seem unfeeling but he isn't.

Abilities: (The Keeper is purposefully overpowered as I'll be GMing through him, don't worry I won't abuse it.)
Hunters - By tearing the life energy or souls out of angels, demons, and humans the Keepers can create Hunters. They cannot be killed as their body is basically just a shell. If you destroy them they reform themselves after a time, their restriction is that they cannot withstand daylight or hallowed ground. They cannot think for themselves and answer only to the Keepers.

Balefire - They can use bits of their soul to fuel an attack that will obliterate any being it touches even slightly. It destroys the being completely so there is no chance at another life, they cease to be. Unfortunately, the more they use the ability the weaker they become and the more they fade away... Once the soul is used up completely they cease to be.

Duel Natured - As a Keeper he can use the base abilities of both demons and angels.

Rending the Vale - As a Gate Keeper Ruben has the ability to open the Vale and form gateways to Heaven or Hell.

Though Keepers can be killed the same way as the angels and demons, they will simply reform their bodies unless their souls are taken. They're basically immortal so long as their souls are maintained. Most of the time, the Keepers keep their souls apart from their bodies in order to protect themselves from final death.

History:
After thousands of years on the earth Ruben is still the youngest of the seven Gate Keepers. His views on things are therefore a bit more flexable. He's lived long enough that he has seen both sides ignore the rules that govern them, abuse their powers, and he has seen the Gate Keepers do nothing because of bribery or their own blind pride... He sees the world's balance tipping and there are far too few Gate Keepers to keep things in check and so... he broke the rules. As a Keeper it is his job to stay out of human affairs, he is supposed to maintain the balance and the rules... nothing more. Yet, he'd seen potential in the Sensitives where others dismissed them. So, when he was wandering the mortal plain and he'd come into contact with a sickly young girl who'd smiled up at him when she shouldn't have seen him at all he'd told himself it wasn't a softness for the child, a stirring of emotion in a long dead heart... He told himself it was curiosity, nothing more, that made him save her. He'd laid his hands on her and he'd taken her illness into himself... a body that could fight such an ailment for eternity. Then, he'd watched her over the years and seen her talents grow. In the meantime there was another Sensitive drawing his attentions, John Constantine. There was word of him, a Sensitive who was sending demons back to hell and angels back to heaven just for fun. The night Shae had met with the demon, Ruben had made his decision... He'd collect the Sensitives, he'd train them... There were so many that just maybe, he could restore balance with their help and save a rotting world from destruction.

Personality: Quiet, broody, short tempered, stubborn, determined, can seem stand-offish towards others... until you get to know her. Under her frosty exterior is actually a kind hearted, protective, and mischievous person. She softens a lot around Ruben but only minutely as she is obsessed with pleasing him, she sees him as a father.

Abilities:
Like all Sensitives, she can see the truth lurking behind the vale... If she looks hard enough she can see through the human disguises angels and demons wear.
She likes to draw and the things she draws sometimes come true, she doesn't realize she is drawing bits of the future or past and she can't do it on purpose.
If someone touches her she can sense their emotions.
She was trained by Ruben to exorcise lesser demons and banish lesser angels. She knows basic protection against either being, wards in many different runes, and holy symbols.

History:
Shae was only four when she started seeing things, it happened after she'd been diagnosed with leukemia. They tried chemo, it didn't help. Her parents tried to give her as normal a life as possible and one evening when she was out with her parents shopping, she wandered off and ran into Ruben. The Keeper, usually unswayed by mortal issues, broke one of the oldest laws for his kind... don't interfere with human lives. Her parents found Shae alone, passed out in the food court with no memory of what had happened but the next month her results came back... She was in remission and it never came back. Shae lived her life after that being medicated for the things she saw until she learned to pretend she didn't see them anymore... Until she could pretend no longer. One night, she'd been headed home from school and heard a commotion in an ally. She'd gone to look and found a woman being assaulted by a man who was mostly hidden in shadow. However, when she called out to him prepping to use her pepper spray her father had given her, he'd turned and she'd seen his face... and what he really was. The demon abandoned the woman and came after her, thankfully Ruben had been watching her since that day in the mall. Hunters came and tore the demon apart in front of her, ripping him limb from limb and scattering the pieces. She'd stood shaken and in shock until Ruben had stepped seemingly out of thin air and dismissed the creatures. He told her it wasn't safe for her anymore, that she needed to go with him and she went willingly after he altered her memory so that she believed her parents had died in a car crash two years prior. She has been considered missing since age 12... Since then she has been training with and working for Ruben, helping maintain balance.

NAME: Malphael – "Mal"
RACE: Fallen (light; former angel of abstinence)
GENDER: Male
AGE: Appears to be 29

APPEARANCE: Handsome, as pictured. Tall, lean and lanky, with scruffy black hair and a blinding white smile. His eyes are particularly unsettling and inhuman, a pitch-black colour that are simultaneously flecked with gold while not allowing any light in whatsoever.

To the naked eye, his wings are non-existent, sealed into an elaborate tattoo on his back that only supernatural beings (including sensitives) can see. He uses it to keep a track of his impending demise. The illusion is stronger than others, concealing rose-red wings that, as the feathers begin to fall off, turn grey.

PERSONALITY: In general, Malphael is charming – if a little quirky. He is a smooth-talker, a wordsmith, and often uses verbose language even when he ought not to. He admires and hoards the finer things in life selfishly, from jewellery and fine clothes to beautiful people (not just in appearance); however, he goes through periods of crippling guilt and self-loathing as a result. Even so, Malphael considers Falling to be the best thing that ever happened to him, allowing him the freedom to experience things like the strong emotions love and hate. He is weak-willed and indecisive, wanting both to return to his angelic ways by repenting for his sins and continue his hedonistic lifestyle all at once.

ABILITIES:
Healing – The natural ability to heal himself and others. Not very good at the latter.

Empathy – A strange version of empathy wherein he can only feel others' physical pain and lust (for anything). With permission, he can transfer it to himself. This is useful because he has a uniquely high tolerance for pain and torment as well as impeccable self-restraint after a year of debauchery. It is somewhat related to his willpower as a former angel of abstinence.

Conversion of Energy – Waste not want not. Malphael can take some of the life-force of a creature or plant and bolster himself with it; however, if it is capable of conscious thought he requires permission or an understanding first. This storage of energy allows him enhanced physical speed and supernatural endurance at the cost of reducing his remaining lifespan just as his fallen abilities would.

HISTORY: Malphael is (or was) a relatively young angel, particularly immature and not entirely devoted to his code of strict rules. He abstained, as commanded, from everything that could lead him into sin and ruin. Before falling, he had never experienced strong emotions because there was no need for them. After a few years of merely observing the human world, he began to influence it, if only in tiny ways – good ways, like saving a man from the grip of alcoholism via prophetic dreams. His work was a matter of pride for him, though it didn't quite lead him into sin directly.

Eventually he came across Evangeline, his first experience with a sensitive. Her piety attracted him first of all: she was a Christian girl with far too little confidence and a problem for him to solve. Normally he wouldn't have even considered helping but Malphael was leaning towards various sins anyway, particularly lust and envy, so he decided to wing it and hope for the best. He took away her problems (or more accurately, took her away from her problems) shortly before being cast down for one misstep too many.

The first year of freedom that followed was fun, an entirely new experience for him as he committed various crimes and accumulated enough money to help his sensitive through university and life in general; however, he is beginning to regret it... if only because he believes Evangeline has a chance of ascending to a higher plane of existence after her life is over and he cannot risk his actions corrupting her. As a result he is not contracted to her, though he has pledged to protect her.

Appearance:

Personality: Not one of the most sociable people, especially after entering medical school where he spent the majority of his time focusing on studies. Typically serious about mostly everything, both in work and in his freetime. Still he can easily goof around, losing much of his hardened appearance, just almost never in the presence of others as he cares very much about appearing professional. Michael has a very strong sense of empathy towards others, this was actually the main driving force of him joining the medical field in the first place, none of the prestige or pay mattered much in his decision.

Abilities: On top of the standard sensitive powers, Michael is also able to see the vital life force of living creatures. While at first he had no control over it, he has been able to stomp down the power from constantly interfering with his daily routine. When focusing hard enough Michael can see a type of aura emanating from anything that is living, this also includes plants. As something comes closer to death, its vital aura slowly dissipates before completely vanishing at the exact time of death. There have been benefits to this ability, as a paramedic being able to tell how close a patient to death has definitely been a boon, however at the same time Michael doesn’t see death the same way anymore since it has lost a lot of its mystery and simply is no longer as sensitive to it. Michael has not received formal training in any kind of banishment, so of course as such cannot perform the act on either an angel or demon.

History: About a year ago Michael graduated, and soon after found a job as a First Responder at a hospital. Through the months after starting Michael experienced first hand the many different injuries that the human body could endure, bites, third degree burns, broken or even missing limbs, heavy lacerations, horrible infections, gunshots, and… well there’s no need to mention any more. One night while on call Michael’s life changed for good, while responding to a dispatch the ambulance he was assigned to skid toppling over into a series of devastating rolls. The frame of the ambulance was completely crushed, everyone dead except Michael of course, who beyond logic managed to survived only barely hanging on. There still is no official reason why the ambulance crashed, but most believed it was due to reckless driving, fortunately for Michael he never got to know the driver.

The next two months Michael stayed in intensive care at the same hospital he worked for. Again luck was on his side, after finally being discharged there were no permanent injuries most had healed by that point. It was only then that Michael noticed a change, he could see death, maybe not the actual entity but the life that remained in something. At first it was horrible, just dreadful to know when someone was going to die, but after sometime living with his newfound power Michael started to take advantage of it. This insight drastically improved his ability to save lives, medical technology still only has come so far, but now being able to accurately judge someone’s condition he can take the proper steps to ensure they survive. Currently Michael continues his work, now completely adjusted to the change in his life, the power to see death completely natural. Still he has no knowledge of demons and angels, but that ignorance would not last much longer…
