Arjuna the Silent. Once, she was the most feared warrior upon the scorched and bloody battlefields of Allistaire, a woman of no words, of no voice, yet she commanded the utmost respect and reverence of her men through her stern, authoritative glares and the harsh gritting of her teeth beneath the hardened steel of her helm. Born to a tavern-wench and a former knight of the kingdom in what is now known as modern day Bavaria, Arjuna was afflicted with a damning curse while she was within her mother's womb. The bar-maiden had slighted a witch with foul utterances after the crone had given her nary a pence for her services. Embittered, the witch snarled to Arjuna's mother, "A curse unto your unborn, you hapless slag! May that which sleeps in your womb have their tongue removed as penance for the sharp tongue of their worthless mother." The curse came to fruition, and on the day Arjuna was born, the horrible discovery had been made. She did not cry, nary a whimper escaped her developing lungs. Throughout her life, Arjuna was stricken with the curse of muteness. Some would tease her for it, others would ignore her. Twas only her family that showed her some sort of compassion. By the time she had reached her twelfth year, Arjuna decided to follow in her father's footsteps. She too desired to become a knight, to serve her kingdom with chivalry and honor. At first, her father tried to deny Arjuna of such, claiming that without her voice, she would lack the authority it took to become a knight. Arjuna however, despite lacking a voice, it was her strong will and her fiery determination that exhibited her sense of authority. Her father took note of this and at age thirteen, her training had commenced. Her father taught her all that he knew, swordplay, archery, the bare essentials for how to think like a knight, and most importantly, how to fight as one. Twas three years later, after thriving under her father's tough but fair tutelage, that Arjuna admitted her services to the Kingdom of Allistaire. The knights of the guard, they mocked her at first. For one, she was a woman, and of course it took a man to know where a woman's place was,
"There's only two places a woman needs to be, wench, the kitchen and the bedroom!"
Second, there again was the challenge of muteness, such an arduous hindrance that the knights again had to throw it in her face, but it was not words that determined a warrior. No....it was their actions. Arjuna challenged the mouthy knight, and much to the astonishment of others, in a quick but bloody sword duel, she defeated him before his comrades. The commander of the knights saw this, the display of Arjuna's innate proficiency with a sword, and allowed her admittance. Through the passage of time that followed, Arjuna rose above the ranks, every battle she fought with courage blazing like a fire in her heart, elevating her to stand above her shield-brethren until she was commander now. By that time, Arjuna carried quite the impressive military record. She was honored and decorated by her kingdom, absolutely adored and often times feared by her knights. But all this glory....all this fame that followed her upon the ever undulating tides of war....soon it had to come to an end.....and so it did... On the cold and bitter morning upon the eve of Thurs'daggr, Arjuna had met her end upon the field of battle. A sword had found its way through her armor thick as dragon scales....and pierced the very heart that had overcome so many adversities. Her enemies, they tried to snatch her body away to defile it as insult to Allistaire, resulting in a grisly fray from her comrades to retrieve her soulless corpse. A burial upon the fields was held in her honor, her sword...still etched and bloodied from her last battle, left to mark the grounds where lied Arjuna....the Silent Warmaiden of Allistaire....
