Tech level will be at bronze age, all civilisations will have access to bronze spears etc. Depending on how people want to do this, new technologies could be developed (eg iron working), and new units unlocked.

Yep, pretty much :D Although of course you can make your civilisation's culture the same as in real life if you want to. In fact, it would probably be best to, though I don't mind if you make up a new religion or something.

Yep, that's fine. I would suggest the area around Vienna, as that was an important city for that empire in our timeline. We'll have to all have a vote on how many territories can be claimed at the start.

Well, I'm not sure. I want people to be able to be free as possible, but I also have an idea for trade routes and civilisation traits (which I will explain soon, to see if people like it). I would say about the middle.

City states would start off with just one or two territories, and would expand about one space per IC page from there. Sounds interesting. Since someone's already picked the Holy Roman Empire, I'll call the Byzantine Empire. Obviously only a few provinces within it, but still; my vote goes to everyone getting to pick four.

Also, you say pre-Renaissance, but also mention Bronze Age? By the high middle ages (Before the Renaissance) people were a long ways past bronze.

I know, but I meant you could choose any civilisation between the Bronze age and the Renaissance to RP as, but everyone will start with Broze age tech.

Anyway, to answer Zambza's questions:

Any European civilisation from ancient to Renaissance times, though everyone will start at the same tech level. This could progress after a while. That idea for barbarians is probably the most simple, so I'll probably go with that. The NPC nations will be city states and small nations from history.

Now, my idea for trade routes:

We could have a resource system where some of the territories on the map have symbols on them, meaning any civilisation that owns that territory will receive that resource every IC page. Trade routes (3 for everyone, possibly 5 in the case of 'commercial' civilisations, see below) could be used to trade this resource with other peoples, including city-states that might sometimes request a certain resources in return for something else. These resources could be used for different units (e.g. wood = battering ram, iron = legionaries etc) and possible fortifications.

The number of units will probably be loosely based on a kind of points system, with different ones available if you have different resources (to keep it fairer). I know this restricts freedom somewhat, so I won't be too strict about this.

About the 'commercial' thing, I think it would be a good idea for RPers to pick 1 or two traits for their nation. These could be:
Seafaring - cheaper naval units
Militaristic - cheaper land units
Commercial - more trade routes
Diplomatic - NPC civs like you more

Any others you can think of anyone? Or do you not like the idea?

The big problem with this is overall, is that when you try to make it so much like civ you will need to figure out and balance an incredible amount of mechanics which becomes tedious for both you and the players.

My advise? Decide which mechanics provide fun, not restrict it and slash the others.

If I can I would like to lay claim to Scandinavia, a Danish, Swedish, FInnish, Norwegian Union if you will. More of a loose coalition of Vikings, or a successful Kingdom of Sweden depending on the time frame we settle on.

If that's to much space, I'll start in Denmark somewheres!

I was just talking about Venice with the canals and that stuff :P. I'll probabily make the capital Eraclea under some sort of Celtic name.
