Their Story Has Begun:

Day 8 - 1:00 PM:

On the bright side, the students were allowed to take a few bites out of the bountiful delicacies of respite. Even though it was only their first mission, caution was still advised. Though Mr. Fenris had faith in the upperclassmens’ abilities, and he believed that all of his students would return home, alive and well. Of course, there would be those who were not left unscathed, probably a majority of the first years and maybe a second year would be bashed up a little. They were moving in to exterminate a whole entire rift’s worth of monsters. The task was more befitting of a full team of fourth or fifth years, but why were a collage of younglings and elders being sent to fight. It was beyond him to simplify the headmaster’s reasoning, and merely stood back idly.

Varren arrived at the meeting grounds early, the same exact spot as where the griffons landed a week ago. But he couldn’t feel nostalgia for such a place, as his time at the academy was close to nil. It felt like it was only yesterday that he had been forcefully flung onto a back of a griffon, then nearly fell off of said beast. But aside from scarcely evading death, it had been a fulfilling and eventful week. Over his shoulders were slung his K30 and a bag, chock full of medical supplies and ammunition. The pack wasn’t overfilled by the slightest, but its internal were arranged neatly to maximize space utilization. The boy could’ve been on par with somebody with OCD, but chances are, in the heat of the battle, such finesse would be quickly jumbled up. ”Is our ride not here yet~?” He crooned cheerfully. Though, such hums sounded like nails on a chalkboard in Mr. Fenris’ ears. The man slided over to Varren and shoved the list of the teams into his chest. ”Read it over carefully. You can reiterate it on the flight there.” The boy squinted his eyes at the text, skimming over the painstakingly small text.

There were a few names missing on the list, a confused expression was directed towards Fenris in response. ”Well, that second year snake girl called in sick. Caught something from another student. As for the Strike Witches, they believed their movements would be inhibited within the enclosed space.” Varren rubbed his chin and nodded, taking note of the physically altered humans’ inability to perform flight within the hive. Though they have firepower which would have proven to be extremely useful. But utilizing insecure fighters is blatantly useless. ”Your rides shall be here momentarily. It will be a thirty minute flight from here to the tear. The insertion point was pictured within the mission synopsis, the landing zone is right… here.” With a lone appendage he pointed at a circle portion of a sheet within his other hand. Though, there was something which kept the boy on edge. ”Why am I here? I thought I was just supposed to give that speech on that morning?” He shrugged off any lingering queries, his mind should be focused elsewhere. How well will the students within each team operate with eachother? Will they work in cohesive motions, or will fissures and fallouts take form instead?

During the past week, Varren had observed all of the students, between studies and free time. He had seen friendships kindled, relationships burn with vibrant essence, and disputes force others apart. Many alterations were first time experiences for him, given his ambivalence to social conversation. The student glanced at his toshinmac, reading the digital letters displayed in the translucent hologram. 1:04 PM It was almost time for the birds to arrive. The selected students began to gather before them, arriving in small groups or alone. They were already notified of their teams, and split into three teams of capable fighters. Taking a moment of respite as a gust of cold air brushed against his ear, Varren adjusted the scarf, tugging at its nape to expose his face. The boy spun around on the ball of his foot, with his wonted grin of innocence. His ebullient expression shined on the formed groups of students, his mouth hung unhinged as words flew outwards.

As greeting departed from his lips, and registered within his classmates’ brains, three elegant moldings of metal plummeted towards the location. Propelled by the quarter of mounted engines, streamline in appearance and seemed to surpass the limitations of air resistance, the birds of prey soared towards the students. At the ten meter mark, the trio came to an abrupt halt, counteracting their built up momentum by shifting their engines in the opposite direction. The wind projected from the turbines nearly blew the students away, excluding the ten foot tall robot and the unexplainably heavy gemstone. Varren felt the air blowing against his neckhair, forcing it against his skin. The expert pilots eased the transports and leveled out, then descended to the snow. The boy patted at the freezing substance which caked his clothing, he was the closest to them after all. Once the birds powered down, the side bay doors slammed open, giving leeway to a cabin full of seats. A pilot popped out of the middle transport and jogged over to Fenris, ”Three Eagles, as requested, sir!” American. Varren could easily recognize the accent. Their rides were definitely more glamorous and foolproof than the griffons the students rode on a few week ago. Mr. Fenris nodded, and ushered for the students to enter their respective Eagles. ”Good luck! Oh, first years! You all better come back alive, we have a quiz tomorrow~” The octopod chimed as the groups filled into the cabins. With this sudden development, Varren wasn’t so thrilled about surviving.

Once the students buckled in, the doors closed up, and the birds took to their biome once more. Varren stared out the window as the academy grew smaller in the cut of glass. Soon, it disappeared from view, and the transports flew in formation above a seemingly endless forest of barren trees, within a white canvas. He then turned his attention towards his bag and dug into its contents, pulling out a radio. Each transport was distributed one device upon lift-off, with the frequency already preset. He rose microphone to his mouth, and reiterated their mission, ”Testing, testing! 1, 2,3. I like coffee~ Alright, good, this is working. As you already know, we will be inserting at an access point on the hive’s surface. The distance from the entrance to the queen’s lair should be roughly a couple of miles, full of minions and varying classes of residents. Just keep this in mind; If the queen dies, all native hive beings die instantly. They literally can’t live without their dear queen. There will be three caverns, one for each team, which have been speculated to meet up at the same point. It will take all of us to bring that mean tyrant down, so let’s all get there in one piece, ok?”

He sounded way too cheerful for a first year who was about to embark on their first mission. But, he continued on with the synopsis, ”As for the majority of our enemies, which are the minions, they are basically cannon fodder. There are a few other types of adversaries, most notably the knights, the queen’s heralds and defenders. Proceed with caution, they have been perceived to give even fifth years some trouble. Senpais, please keep my fellow classmates alive. Good luck, and see you all in thirty minutes!” And with that, the comms went silent. Varren glanced at his teammates with a stretched smile, ”That goes for you too, Jojo!” He joked as he reclined in his seat, throwing his arms behind his head.

1:45 PM - At the tear:

Thirty minutes had passed, and the students were notified that they were reaching their destination. Varren stuck to the window like glue, peering through the clear substance as his eyes took in the sight. The title was truly befitting such an occurrence, as it was most definitely a tear in space itself. The opening was levitating in thin air, through its crack a completely different world could be seen. Inside was a desolate view, void of color and bright sunlight. The ground consisted of a terrain similar to a dessert, except it was dyed in a greener hue. The Eagles collapsed into a single line, and passed through the seam without a moment’s hesitation. The transition between dimensions consisted of an emitted sharp light, which disappeared as soon as it appeared. The trio broke off from one another, putting some distance as they decreased in altitude. ”One minute out! Get ready to clear the landing zone!” And of course, the students were the ones who would be doing the clearing. Since the academy was still a scholastic institution by clarification, they weren’t allowed to mount any form of heavy armaments onto their property, even though it was responsible for training para-soldiers.

Varren could already see their LZ, the three distinct gaping holes in the ground. Surrounding their rims were groups of outer guards, physically and aesthetically on par with the minions. ”Ah, alright, I see… Mr. Jojo! Please help me out~” The boy requested of his senior as he slipped on his combat glasses, flipping the heads-up display over the shades. He switched the safety off of his rifle and slumped onto the cabin’s, and took aim through the sights. ”Let’s get to work, shall we?” Juliet’s Eagle came to a stop midair and spun itself ninety, facing its doors towards the openings.

”We’ll have to clear out our landing zone, and Charlie’s. Mr. Graham’s pistols would become ineffective at this range, and the rest of team Charlie are melee fighters. They would be overwhelmed if they were dropped right in. Switching to 20x30 rounds.” He spoke in a more calm and technical tone, flipping through the firing modes of the K30. ”Range, seven-hundred meters. Wind resistance, none. Compensate for bullet round drop.” With the assistance of Joseph’s precise rounds, which had barely any differentiation from their original target, and his own grenades, the two were able to effectively clear out both landing zones. ”Now… As for Sierra’s…” As if on cue, the two other transports raced forward, with Sierra’s bay doors wide open. Gripped to the hull of the bird was the blonde woman, who Varren believed could snap a person in half without breaking a sweat. The Eagle turned on an angle, facing her closer to the ground. Once it was only a few meters from the zone, the woman took in a deep breath and unleashed fiery carnage upon the unknowing enemies. ”Nice job, Ms. Ek! Perhaps we can have fried hive mind tonight!” The boy jested as all three birds swiftly landed, blowing away the sand beneath their engines. Once the students piled out of their transports, they began their journey into the unknown, ”Communications won’t be so clear beneath the surface, so I might as well say this now. Good hunting, and good luck! Perhaps Ralth can throw us a party after this~”

Team ROCK YOUR WINTER SOCKS Juliet Cool-lab
Hive Raid Part 1: Wall Haxx

Once Varren gave a last testament of good luck, he watched as the Eagles circled around to gain collective lift, then parted off from the landing zone. With their rides waning in size, it meant that the teams were truly on their own. The first year pivoted to face the rest of his team, rifle in hand. He raised the firearm over his shoulder and cocked his head, "Alright, let's go! Jojo, lead us to swaggin victory! Onwards!" Varren shouted, throwing his free fist high into the air.
"Dagny says that shit one fucking time and everyone knows it already..." If this swaggin JoJo crap spread he was going to beat the shit out of everyone who dared mutter such sacrilege. "I know they chose you to coordinate this mission, but say JoJo one more time and there's going to be a serious case of friendly fire." It was bad enough he was on a team of plebian first years. "If one of you scrubs get caught in some kind of trouble, I ain't helping you out. Experience is the best teacher, after all."
Shen watched uneasily as the air-based mechanical transport, the so-called 'Eagles', departed from the designated landing zone. It was a feeling of foreboding, like a bad omen for a grim future to come. Perhaps he was just nervous for the mission. He'd staked a lot on proving the Thorn-of-Shield wrong about his opinion on organically-based organisms. Still... Perhaps it was something else?

The Asian geomancer shook his head. It was not a good time to be thinking thoughts such as that. He had to keep his eye on the metaphorical ball if he was to bring his team to victory and succeed on both of his missions. "Yes sir!" he said, giving their chaperone, Conrad 'Jojo' Joseph, a salute.

...Perhaps the interaction with a certain Strike Witch had influenced Shen more than he'd thought...

"However, if I may, I would like to guide the team through the area for the duration of this mission. I feel that my skillset is well suited for the purpose."
"Mate, bugger the fuck off and GPS your fucking ass out of this one." Joseph threw Shen into a nearby Sand pit. "We don't need no guide, lets just run in a straight line and shoot everything we fucking see mate."

And so it went.

...IN JOSEPH'S MIND!

Sadly, he could not kill off the plebian first years as he pleased. Coming back with a few missing would probably be bad on his record anyway.

"Very well. I suppose I won't have to do everything by myself. But if you guide yourself off a cliff, I ain't saving ya."
Taking the chance to speak up, Varren grinned as he leaped towards Shen, "Don't worry, Fai! If that happens I'll leap after you! Like a bird diving through the sky!" The student made a horrible attempt at a bird's cawing, making a beak out of his hands as the noise eminated from his mouth. "And then Lilith can summon something to break our fall~! Or catch us! Anyways, Mr. Swaggin Navigator, lead us ahead!" Like a general waving his flag, motioning for his comrades to advance towards their common goal, he seemed to hyped for venturing into unknown territory.
"...Indeed..." Shen replied, a single eyebrow rising. Did they take him for an idiot, willing to jump down a cliff with nary a second thought? It was practically insulting! He was no two-bit scout, mapping out as he moved? Bah!

The geomancer approached the mouth of the cavern, the stench of corpses and feces filling his nose. It was absolutely disgusting, especially since his nasal passages weren't dulled by such things as modern-day pollution. He crouched low, placing a hand upon the ground.

"Open the gates of all directions. Let the fire from the shore be our guide."

Mana flowed from Shen's fingertips like a web, expanding in all directions along the ground. Of course, to the untrained eye, it appeared as nothing more than a young man touching the disgusting, sandy floor before the entrance of the cavern. To those more familiar with the magical arts - well, just Lilith - it was... still a lot like that. Except it made more-ish sense to do.

Information began flooding into Shen's mind as his mana moved through the environment. Landmarks, measurements, structural compositions... It was like a blueprint of the area had downloaded itself into the mind of the Chinese geomancer. The cavern was approximately 523.702 meters cubed - not nearly large enough to encompass his maximum range - composed of a mixture of sand, various bodily wastes and secretions, and remains of the dead. It was laid out like a labyrinthine catacomb, with various chambers dotted throughout it, and at the deepest edge of the cavern, was the largest of these. Even without the entity positions in his brain, he could tell that that was where their group would find the queen.

More information. Positions of drones, workers, the queen - located exactly where he'd expected - and a strange fourth kind seemingly guarding the queen's chamber. Then the
appearance of aforementioned drones, workers, queen, and royal guard of sorts.

And they looked incredibly offputting.

Those are what they were to fight against? And that queen. Truly they were doing good work here, destroying this location.

"—Boundary set. All are equal under heaven."

Shen cut of his mana, preventing his Surveillance Field from expanding further. stood up and wiped his hands off on his pants. Now that he knew what exactly he had been touching... Well, it wasn't very pleasant. He walked back to the group, looking behind himself and pulling the collar of his AotAA-issued coat over his nose.

"I have made the necessary preparations and have determined that there is no good path straight to the queen, but..." Shen looked over to Ier-Briar Thorn-of-Shield, "...Ier-Briar Thorn-of-Shield, if I may have a word with you over there?" He pointed to the mouth of the cavern and walked towards it.
All these swaggin fleshbags with their incessantly flapping lips, spewing out things that Ier-Briar really couldn't care about. He was careful not to allow his displeasure to show on his face though, being the ever tactful Gemstone he was. Decked in his full armor, with enough weight that the fuel effeciency and speed of the aircraft had been noticeably decreased during their transit to the hive of the Queen, he watched the others bicker while leaning his spear against his shoulder, standing at the vanguard. It would have been nice if he could just march in and smash apart anything in his way, but he was well aware of his own strength. Sometimes, even trucks couldn't bulldoze through everything.

He watched as his useless fleshbag of a 'partner' did whatever fancy weakling magic thing those meatsacks were accustom to doing, before shrugging at his wish for communication. Without any particular care, the Gemstone strode boldly over to the mouth of the cavern, exceeding Shen's own walking pace until the six year old was once again in front of the geomancer.

"Well, what is it?"
"Mmm... Recall how I said I would guide our team to victory? Well I have a... tactic I wish to utilize," Shen said cryptically, hands intertwined behind his back, "I merely need to ask you one thing. Are you prepared to do what it takes to succeed in this mission?"
"Cut out that mysterious crap, fleshbag, and tell me what you have planned."
"Have you ever heard of a drill?" he asked, "Well, I plan to use the principles surrounding it to create a path of our own." Despite the gemstone's command, he was still vague as ever, if slightly less.
"Yes, I have."

And with that, he grabbed Shen, brought him parallel to the ground, and rammed that meatsack's head into the cavern wall.
EWW. EWW EWW EWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!

The sandy, paper-mache-esque wall had met the face of the Asian. The sand, the feces, the decomposing bits of corpses... All of it, all up in his 'grill', as modern vernacular stated. He disengaged from the wall as soon as humanly possible and looked up to Ier with a rather ominous look upon his face and the most slasher of smiles.

"...I shall take that as a 'Yes'..."

Shen thrust his hand out and clenched his fist.

The magical system of Shen's family revolved around being one with the earth. Whether this be the interference of its natural flows, or the control of local terrain. In the latter case, local terrain would be the sandy, insect hive or perhaps the solid ground under it.

Or, for example, a piece of shit gemstone who decided to make him touch that.

It was like something out of a Star Wars movie. Shen raised his fist, and with it rose Ier and with his other hand he pulled back. And then he punched forward, sending the gemstone into the wall with astounding force. He then rotated his hand to and fro, turning the flaxen haired youth in circles. Like the aforementioned drill.

Of course, Ier-Briar Thorn-of-Shield had never let go, but if that was the price to be paid, so be it. Shen had already been corrupted by this... filth.

And so, the gemstone and his 'passenger/driver' were sent spinning through the walls of the hive. It's a good thing Shen knew where he was going.
Lilith would’ve found the geomancy pair of the team to be quite amusing, if she wasn’t busy fighting off the feeling of dread at her throat. The stinking cavern was a metropolis of the dead, filled to the brim in every last corner. Under their feet was likely the most unceremonious mass burial, of deceased dwellers and whatever poor things that found their way in here. Without even needing to extend her senses did she already feel the teeming number of souls swarming about, parting like water around the only few living beings in the labyrinth that had sentience. Well, at least the majority of the team was considering ‘living.’ And it’d maybe none of us would be by the end of the day… A slight shiver went down her spine.

Whilst the geomancy based duo were having their... moment, the remaining three members were standing around idly. Varren glanced over to his fellow first year, who didn't appear to be in the best state of mind at the moment. A necromancer could only feel uneasy within what was basically a giant tomb, trapping hundreds of thousands of souls. He chose to let the girl be, and looked up at the taller figure, holding his railgun over his shoulder. "Wonder how the other teams are fairing, hm? Stinks that we can't contact them from down here." The boy's inquiries were all but wistful thinking, lingering over contemplating the well-being of his classmates.

"YOU BROUGHT THIS UPON YOURSELF, FLESHBAG."
"THIS WOULD HAVE GONE MUCH MORE SMOOTHLY HAD YOU BEEN LESS INTELLIGENT."
"I'M A SIX YEAR OLD THAT'S MORE RATIONAL THAN YOUR HORMONE-INFECTED TEENAGE BRAIN. YOU DARE DOUBT MY INTELLIGENCE!?"
"EXCUSE ME! I AM THE ONE WHO THOUGHT OF REDUCING OUR TRAVEL TIME EXPONENTIALLY WHILST YOU STOOD AROUND IDLY! HOW DARE YOU DOUBT ME?!"

But before he could dawdle over how the other teams were doing, his attention returned to his own situation. The other teams were full of experienced students, and would make it through, no matter what. As for Varren's survival rates, they weren't looking to high as the scene unfolded before them. The boy pulled back on the charging bolt and cocked his rifle, with a flip of his combat shades, he was prepped for battle.

And a battle did indeed ensue, a horde of roughly forty dwellers came crawling towards them at a disturbing rate. They were clearing ground on multiple angles of the cavern, transversing the foul surface from above and below. He oriented the rifle upwards, and squeezed tightly on the trigger, unleashing a three-round burst of grenades. With that, eight adversaries dropped from the ceiling. About twenty more still charged them on the floor, and the remainders continued their upside-down assault.

"Jojo! Lilith! Let's cover these two lovebirds~!"
The previous thought still lingered in Lilith’s mind as the accursed creatures began advance on the group. Feeling adrenaline kicking in, the girl decided to make the best of the situation. Although there hadn't been many situations in her lifetime that ever required it, save for this one; reanimating corpses was thankfully less taxing on the mind than roping in things from the astral plane.

Pointing a finger at one of the dwellers that were just freshly killed at the hands of Varren’s artillery, a thin black wisp shot from the tip. The strand of energy from her magic reserves looked to be absorbed by the body. After a few seconds, the battered and bleeding mass stirred. It was not long until seven faintly-glowing dwellers stood, and with a twirl of a hand, the reawakened beasts obediently turned on their own hive-members.

Although slightly sluggish from their previous injuries, they tore at the offenders savagely. Three that still had the physical capability to climb took the chance, and sent three of the ceiling dwellers dropping. The other four remained on ground level and began to assault those on the floor.

From the corner of her vision, she took notice of one of the enemy dwellers charging toward a figure dangerously fast. Lilith had no time to look to see who it was, only focused on intercepting it as fast as possible. She concentrated and took direct control of one of the undead minions on the ceiling, having it drop down directly front of the offender in an attempt to stop it in its track. The deceased dweller landed, lifted a limb that had a jagged bone jutting from its hide, and sliced at its living brethren.
And so the geo duo turned and turned, bickering every little bit of the way. Truly a match made in the rocky crust of the earth. The sounds of their comrades' battle against the insectoid threat could be heard even in their body-sized tunnel. The metaphorical minimap in Shen's mind relayed their position to him.

"Oi. Thorn-of-Shield." the geomancer said, "Watch out for the dr-"

Nobody watched out for the drop.

And thus, the geomancer and the geological being fell from roof of the queen's chamber on top of a very pissy hive leader.

"...Hello. Just dropping by," Shen quipped.

And then the elite guard burst into the chamber, out for first year blood and stone fragments. It was almost as if some higher power, some metaphorical 'game master', had decided to delay their efforts to defeat this queen.

"What was the term again.. Eff-Em-Ell?" Shen stated flatly.
Varren glanced back once he heard a faint yelp to his behind. Whilst his teammates dealt with the remaining minions, he turned around to face a gaping hole. One, which had consumed the two other members of their group. He cautiously approached the opening and leaned over the edge, placing his palms against the grotesque rim. The student peered down the whole, his eyes widened as they set upon the humongous shape of the queen. Though, even more surprising was the rodeo ride being given by a knight, to the absent duo. Once the last of the wave was killed off, Lilith and Chris both jogged over to Varren, and took in the same appalling sight.

"Yeah, I know. I'm surprised Fai can keep such a tight grip around Ier.

CRACK

And with the faint cracking of the surface below them, a chill when up Varren's spine as the flooring gave way, leaving them to tumble aimlessly into the chamber. The student held back a scream and braced himself for combat, landing on one of the knights.

"Hi~. Don't mind me, just dropping i-"
"Varren, that was my puUUUUN!."

As Shen and Ier were not-so magically whisked away by their makeshift mount, Varren's insect swung back a claw, the boy was barely dodged the serrated edge as the limb flew past him. He quickly cocked his rifle and pulled down on the trigger, yet the rounds ricocheted off the armor. "Let's hold them off until the other teams arrive! Be careful, they're heavily armore-" Another swing, and an almost landed hit.

Raising an eyebrow at the first year's exuberance, Raule supposed that it was better than a nervous wreck. He gazed at the three transports flying in from a distance and raised his arm to shield his eyes just as they came to a halt, kicking up a cloud of snow as they did so. Brushing the white powder from his clothes, he nodded towards the transport at the group of four that were “technically” under his supervision. Technically because he was the eldest of them, but it wasn’t as if Raule had any desire to be seen as a leader. Not waiting to see if they followed, he strode on forward and climbed onto the Eagle, claws clinking as they tapped against metal.

Dagny was pretty tuned out to the speech and blabbing, her eyes wandering around at the other students. "Dweeb, dweeb, dweeb," she thought mindlessly as she silently judged each one. Her gaze fell on the excited first year, watching boredly as his mouth continued to move. "Definitely dweeb," she decided to herself. Then, as demonstrated by the fifth year, it was time to board the Eagles. She took that as reason enough to get on the thing, and followed up by hesitantly stepping in, slowly allowing more and more of her weight onto the ship. Satisfied that she wouldn't be dragging it down, she stepped in, rolling her shoulders.

Loreal looked around at the other students, her ears tuned in on the first year speaking to everyone via microphone. After a whole break away, she was regrowing accustomed to the technology and she adjusted it at her ear as her green eyes found Varren again. "Whats a senpai?" she whispered curiously to Jeremiah as the first year wrapped up his speech. Then, she watched as the fifth and fourth years boarded the Eagle and followed suit. Over her shoulder sat her long bow--emphasis on long as it was nearly as tall as she--and quiver. At each side of her slender figure was a short sword.

Jeremiah admired the transport they had been given for this mission, He had never ridden in something like this. "I'm not positive, but I think it's just a term of respect." He said absently petting Kasha as she napped on the seat beside him. Jeremiah looked around again at the people he would soon be fighting along side, it would be a lie to say he wasn't nervous. He looked around again grasping for a distraction, "Do they normally take us to missions on ships like this?" He asked Loreal, "I don't know why but I thought we would be riding the griffons again." He smiled thinking of that.

Ark was the last one on the transport. This fact didn't matter much, but it gave him a quick view of his team. Of course, there was him and Dagny. The Draconic Archer and the Dragon girl who could probably punch a wall to pieces without even noticing. Then, there was Raule, a brawler of some sort who looked like a reliable bad-ass. There was also Loreal, the second year who was also an archer. Lastly, there was the guy with the cat. Cat guy. That is what Ark would call him. Cat Guy. He took his seat, making sure he had everything with him. Ark wasn't wearing a huge coat like he was during the last few days, instead, he was wearing less restrictive clothing, as he couldn't shoot with the damn coat on.

Seeing that all four had followed after him onto the Eagle, Raule rapped on the door to let the pilot know they were ready. As the entry doors slid shut with a hiss and the transport began to lift off, he turned to face the four that were his team members. He waited patiently for the first year to finish his transmission before saying, "I don't know if you've picked partners yet, but figure it out amongst yourself. I'll be acting as support if either team finds themselves in trouble, or as the vanguard if possible." Given what he could make of his team, he was probably the best individual to act as a scout once inside the hive. With that said, he walked over to the window and peered outside, watching as they flew towards their destination.

"Well it wouldn't make sense to use griffons for individuals since we're all going from point A to B together, y'know," Loreal explained as they boarded. At the mention of partners, Lorael's attention shifted to the other young woman on the Eagle. Though, the blonde was already turning to the Draconian and Loreal bit her lip. She had preferred to team up with someone older for the first mission this year, but if the fourth years were already partners... Her eyes turned back on Jeremiah and she grinned. "You, Kasha, and me, then? For this mission, at least," she added, not excited to be paired with a newbie for the rest of the year.

“That sounds fine to me.” Jeremiah said with a smile, He was glad to be working with someone who knew what they were doing. Jeremiah knew he would be able to handle himself when it came to fighting, but he was determined to do his best to keep from holding the other students back. Looking for a distraction, he pulled out his pistol and began to clean it. Jeremiah was not sure if the condition of the gun actually affected its strength but it calmed his nerves nonetheless.
Once on the ground, Dagny nodded in recognition of the chatty first year's praise and looked over to the fifth year as it was suggested he could throw a party later. She chuckled, smoke still filtering out from between her teeth from her mob-clearing breath.

Shielding his eyes from as the raging inferno quickly died down, Raule quickly hopped off the Eagle. Feeling the dried ground crack underneath his feet, Raule scrunched his face in a grimace at the horrible stench. The burnt husks left behind didn't exactly add a pleasant aroma to the mix either, but he quickly got over the moment of distaste. Nodding at the other two still left inside the transport, Raule quickly stepped forward and towards the entrance in front of the others. While the dragon girl's breath had no doubt been powerful, he wouldn't have been surprised if a few had survived, shielded from the worst by the others' bodies.

So it was a failed attempt of an ambush when two creatures burst out from underneath charred corpses. Lips twitching in displeasure as ash sprayed into the air around him, he caught the creatures' clawed arms mid-swing. Before the monsters could even realize their ambush had failed, Raule had already drawn the two close to one another and stabbed on with another. The pair collapsed, twitching, with their claws buried into the other's skull as Raule moved on past.

Loreal hopped off the ship, her nose wrinkling at the ground beneath her feet. Then, from the ashes two of the reminaing creatures lept at their fifth year. Loreal gasped, reaching for her bow, but before she could even draw an arrow, they were dead. She blinked and sighed in relief, resting her hand over her heart for a moment. "Nice job!" she complimented Raule.

Dagny blinked at the girl and crossed her arms. "Nice job? He only killed two," she pointed out, her arm swinging out to the burnt area.

"Um. Nice job?" the elf offered to the dragon girl, raising a thumb.

Dagny crossed her arms and snorted smoke from her nose. "Whatever," she mumbled with an annoyed glance at Raule.

Ark gave no response to the events unfolding before him. Dagny had burnt a good number of those creatures to death, and Raule had ended the lifes of two more. There was still a long way to go. "Whatever, let's keep moving." Ark walked towards the entry point, bow readied, arrow already nocked. Of course, Ark didn't get too close to the [whatever the exact description of the entry point is], rather, he stayed really close to the group, waiting for Dagny and the others to move ahead.

Confident that she was probably the sturdiest of the group--and a glance at Cat Boy and Knife Ears reassured her of that--Dagny moved for the entrance. She wrinkled her nose as she walked in, scales starting to rise on her arms and her nails extending into claws. She was quiet for once, her shitty eyesight forcing her to depend on her ears.

Loreal followed behind the Draconian, readying an arrow as she stepped quietly.

Jeremiah stared into the cave [hole?] hand clamped firmly over his nose, "Anything that could make a place like this home needs to be dealt with." He said smiling to suppress his gag reflex.

Ark looked at Jeremiah "I've smelt worse. Though, this is pretty bad. Let's just get going, stop messing around." Ark followed behind Dagny, a good distance between them for safety reasons.

"That is a truly terrible thought." Jeremiah said looking around the cave. "Quit whining, your room in the bar was almost as bad as this." Kasha said poking her head out of his bag. "It was not nearly as bad as this." Jeremy said reaching down to pet the cat.
Dagny led the group through the hive, scowling down at the ground as she stepped over the soft surface. Every now and again she would spit fire at a minion--maybe slash at it with her claws. Or one of the elf's arrows would fly by her head and kill one. It was overall a dull process, especially for the older students. Until they grew close enough to the queen's headquarters to encounter knights. Dagny, who wasn't paying attention when the first year was explaining the overall mission, was the first to say, "The fuck are those?"

"Those must be the knights," Loreal suggested after peeking around to the front of line. "So, we must be close to the queen's chamber." She knocked two arrows, took a moment to aim, and exhaled as she released them at the two knights... only to have them bounce off their armor-like exoskeletons and drop to the ground. She really only succeeded in grabbing their attention and flushed in embarrassment.

"Nice going, Knife Ears," Dagny hissed, stepping forward to meet them, arms up to block the first strikes. The white scales on her arms started to extend up to her neck and down to her legs, though most of it couldn't be seen under the school's uniform.

"Second year, don't waste arrows on something your not going to affect. It should have been obvious that those thing are too tough for arrows." Ark was only trying to give a tip to Loreal, though he sounded like a complete asshole.

While Dagny led from the front, Raule hung by the back of the group behind the ranged students and took care of anything the others had missed. He guessed it had something to do with the dragon's bold advance, but the creatures had quickly given up on frontal assaults which were melt by a raging inferno every time. Instead they hid and tried to ambush the group whenever possible, but the lowly minions were simply too weak to really pose a threat. In massed numbers they were simply burnt to crisp, while in smaller groups, Raule shredded them in moments.

Eventually though, after a fair bit of wanton slaughter, they came upon a junction that seemed to join with the Queen's chamber. Given there were two large creatures that looked like they'd actually pose a challenge, Raule was fairly confident that they were at the right, or at the least an important, place. Before he could say anything though, the elf of the group loosed a duo of arrows at the creatures, creating pleasant pings and failing to do much else. Sighing, he stepped past the others and fell in step with Dagny to meet the two Knights.

"So these are supposed to be a threat to fifth-years, huh?" He murmured as a faint white aura seeped out from his chest to cover his entire body.

Unlike Dagny who decided to endure the blows, Raule chose to lash out first. The hive flooring essentially exploded as he kicked off and flew towards the insectoid monster. Smashing into the creature's chest as it raised its scythed arms to attack, Raule kicked off and flipped away into the air. Landing at the same time the Knight managed to come to a halt, Raule raised an eyebrow. While he'd managed to push the monster back, it didn't really seem any worse for the wear. Maybe a bit angrier, but its exoskeleton showed no damage from Raule crashing into it at high speed. "Interesting," he murmured as he stood up, some shadowy substance beginning to cover his hands.

Ark hadn't been doing anything notable throughout the groups journey. He killed a few enemies here and there, burned a few things to death, and given some snarky comments to the others. Ark nocked 2 arrows, aimed, and muttered a spell under his breath. The arrowheads began to glow red. Ark extended his vision as Raule ran forward. The arrowheads began to burn. "Raule, Dagny, stay back for a second." Ark was farther back than the rest of the group at this moment, though Ark's ability allowed him to aim and fire confidently. Ark aimed and fired, the flaming arrows hit their marks suprisingly well. Well, one of them did. Of the two knights, the one that fought Raule was especially unlucky, as the flaming arrow landed directly in it's eye. That knight's head quickly began to burn. The other arrow landed in a gap between the segments of the other knights exoskeleton, and didn't really do much but annoy it.

Jeremiah fired repeatedly into the shell of the knight, “I might as well be fighting the wall.” He said as he watched small dents form on the side of the creature. He had preferred the smaller bugs they were balloons compared to this monstrosity. Jeremy put his gun down to his side and raised his left hand, he could feel the shadows slowly rise and form small orbs in his hand. “Go.” He whispered as the orbs flew at the knight doing what they did best, “HEY!” “OVER HERE.” LOOK AT ME!” The orbs flew around the knight’s head attempting to block the creature’s eyesight. Jeremy saw an arrow hit the other knight’s eye bursting it into flames. Smiling, he raised his pistol and began to firing again, this time aiming for the beast’s head. Thank you for the idea,” He called over to ark. “The eyes are a much better target”.

Dagny found herself pulling away from the knight as her teammates attacked it from a distance. However, she never let herself move too far from its attention and she would step into fire to keep its attention on her, spitting flames or slashing at its armor. "That all you got?!" she shouted at it, grinning as it slashed at her scaled body.

"Too tough for arrows, huh?" Loreal grumbled, raising her empty bow. As she pulled back on the string, a brillant yellow light started to emit from where an arrow should have been. Sand and remnant from the hive's floor started billowing away from her as the magic arrow extended. And when she had the string pulled back as it could go, she squinted her eyes against the dust and let it fly at the remaining knight, where it would slice through its torso like a hot knife through butter.

A hiss of pain escaped Dagny's lips and she stepped away from the knight as it fell, her hand raising to her arm where she..she was bleeding? Her eyes squinted against the light, though as it faded, there was definitely a gash on her upper arm. For a moment, she scowled at the wound in confusion then her blue eyes flickered to Loreal, who she glared at. "Was that you? What the hell? Say something before you shoot somethng like that," she growled at the elf.

Loreal blinked, looking at her teammate's injury. "I didn't mean--"

"For fuck's sake," the dragon girl hissed, "you need to communicate--I'm up here to take their hits--not yours." She gestured to the empty space around her, save for the fallen knight then threw her arm in the archers' and shooter's direction, though winced as she extended it and quickly pulled back.

Watching as the other knight dropped dead at the relatively miniscule wound it recieved, Raule couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. What idiot had thought these would pose a threat to the upper years? Turning his attention back to the remaining Knight with its head aflame, he figured it wouldn't do to hold up the others as their senior.

As the heavily armored insect charged forward, uncaring of the fire burning it, the darkness seemed to deepen around Raule's hands. Catching the twin scythes that came downward to cleave him, he fought against the Knight's immense strength, aura flaring brightly, before the two came to a standstill. Despite its much larger size, the Knight found itself at a standstill with its smaller enemy. With a small grunt, Raule pushed and threw the monster's arms wide open. A sharp uppercut smashed into the Knight's mandibles with an audible crunch before the front half of its face just ceased to exist. Placing a foot against the open wound, Raule kicked off sharply and he flew back while what remained of the creature's head flew the other way.

"Tenacious," he mumured as he landed and hopped backwards immediately as a pair of scythes cleaved through the air just in front of him. Even in its death throes, the Knight seemed to be intent of pursuing Raule. While it might have worked as a surprise attack against someone who thought the battle to be over, against someone who kept their wits about it was little more than an annoyance. While its combat ability hadn't degraded much, against Raule, who could hold his own when it was at full functionality, this "surprise" meant little. Finally, after about a minute the corpse finally collapsed and stilled, the last moments of its life spent.

"Alright, looks like that is done with. Hopefully, the other groups figured out how to deal with those knights. Let's get to the queen's chamber as soon as possible." Ark moved forward, making sure to stamp on the corpses of the knights as he passed them. When he noticed what happened with Dagny and Loreal, or decided to aknowledge it, he simply looked at the second year "Be more careful. Mind your allies. You never know when friendly fire could kill. Oh, stop your complaining, dragon girl, your the last perosn I would expect to make a fuss about friendly fire. though.. you are pretty hot headed." Ark snickered and continued to walk, but at a slower pace, so that the others could get in front of him.

"I'll show you friendly fire," Dagny snorted at Ark, body checking him as she passed to take the lead again.
Dagny slowed to a stop and raised her arm to silently signal the group to stop, her eyes narrowing down the passage. They were coming upon an opening into a larger chamber, and the pupils of her eyes elogated then widened as she watched. She was able to make out the massive figure of the queen. "We're almost there," she commented before moving again.

Then a crash echoed down the passage and the group could see students dropping from the ceiling of the queen's chambers.

Chris took a deep breath as he buried his face in his hands. Too early. He was sitting outside on a bench, coffee next to him, and the sun was just rising. He was wearing his jacket over a plaid shirt and tee, and jeans. He bothered with the school uniform even less on mission days, finding it too restricting to his movement. He took a sip of his drink as he watched the sun rise over the trees. He stood up, and turned around as he walked back to his dorm room. Time to prepare.

He stepped out of the shower, dried himself off, and threw on a pair of sweats. He stepped up to the sink, and followed the rest of his routine; brushing his teeth, shaving, etc. A thought suddenly struck him, just how mundane all of this was. He followed the routine every morning, just to get to the same classes every day, and do the same things in his off-time every night. At least today would be a little different. Maybe even exciting. It would depend on how much he had to babysit the newbies, really, but at least they would be taking orders from him. Actually, it was about time to get out there. It was best to be early for this sort of thing, and he hadn't even eaten.

He was already standing in the landing zone when the others started to arrive. He'd left pretty early to account for digesting the simple breakfast he'd picked up on the way. He was dressed in his standard mission gear: a black compression shirt, short-sleeved, khaki cargo pants, military boots, a tactical harness and holsters/sheaths, and kneepads, his sniper rifle hanging in its sling on his back. Watching his team come in, he tried to associate names from the list to faces. No dice. His only guess was that Ralthavar was the orc. The name sounded orc-y enough, but even that was just a hunch. After they all settled down, Chris introduced himself.

"Alright, everyone. I'm Chris. 5th year. This is Charlie Team, if you've forgotten, and I'll be babysitting you all today for this mission."

He glanced around at their faces, waiting to see if anyone would challenge him.

"Good. Now. I'm not interested in micromanaging you. But if I give an order, you follow it. Understood?"

Again, he waited for a response. To date, nobody's ever challenged his authority during a mission. After a few moments, he smirked.

"Alright then," he said as he cracked his knuckles. "Let's do this, then. Oh, and... Try to have fun."

He spent the ride in the Eagle mostly sitting in silence, not really having anything to say except the occasional one-word answer to a question asked. His main focus was on making sure all his weapons were in proper order. As they approached the drop site, he set himself up with his sniper, helping the other teams clear out the drop site. It wasn't long before the coast was mostly clear, and it was time to go.

"Charlie, let's move!"

Mortia rose as he did every morning, well before the sun had even begun to rise over the tree line. He grabbed his staff and made his way out of the dorms and into the woods. all he wore at the moment was the robe given to him by his father. it was a mutted green with golden trim around the sleeves. He had been walking the woods more each day in between each of his classes. He could see the trees that had been cut down by the orcs to be used in their ever expanded fortress. he decided that later he would have to ask the orcs if they could spare some of the trees so that his little santuary wasnt desturbed.

Mortia made it to the small clearing he had found with a patch of trees in the center. he walked to the trees carful only to tread where he had before as to not upset this grove more than he already had. As he made it to the grouping he made his way through the thick outer branches to the inside which only held one large tree that had been wrapped in a thick cloth tarp he had found to protect the tree from what was about to happen. he brought himself into his ready postion bringing his staff up in front of him. He spent the next few hours untill the sun began to rise practicing his strikes, blows, deflects, and blocks trying to constantly force his body to move faster and stronger with each strike.

Once the sun began to rise mortia sat down in front of the tree legs crossed staff planted firmly in the ground chanting the ancient lines that made it possible for him to draw his magical reserves from the natural life that surrounded him. he slowly started to glow green. his glow started to pulsate as he started to chant the lines over and over faster and faster untill all that could be seen from the out side as a glowing light that could rival even the suns own beams as it made its way through the skys. He had done this each day to make sure that his reserves of magic would not run out at the most important time. the glow slowly started to die down as he slowed his chanting. as he finished he stood and turned to the tree he had been sitting by and lowered his head. he grabbed a few nuts from the tree as he went to leave said his thanks to his sacred grove and made his way back to his dorm room.

Mortia hurriedly gatheried the equipment he thought he would need he had stashed around his room. he grabbed his amulet that would help him regain some of his magic while away from his natural sources. From under his bed, he grabbed three out of his fifteen jars of dirt that would be his last magical source if he ran dry, strapping these to his belt tied under his cloak. finally he picked his staff up from where he had set it down and slid it into the sheath he had made for it on his back. finaly sure he had all he would need for their mission he made his way to the pick up point to meet up with the rest of his squad.

he saw his squad gathered together and rushed to join them. He heard Chris telling his group that he was in charge which was fine by him he planned on staying at the back of the group anyway. he loaded up on his groups transport to the drop off zone. he sat back and tried to decide if he should talk to the orc about his grove. He should just wait until after the mission. he heard something open up with machine gun fire outside of the ship. "Charlie, lets move" he heard Chris say as their transport landed and he jumped out of the ship, staff in hand.

"Your mother packed you chestnut rice and a new Ahlspiess for your staff. Your father made some Cat Buns and this skull. He was rather hasty so he isn't sure what magic is inside of it, if there is any at all, but hopefully you're make use of it anyways. Now than, are we ready to go?"

Said Andari, Ralthavar's Worgan. He arrived to the school today with some gifts for Ralthavar and all the other Worgans belonging to the orcs, at around twenty or so given that a few also had pups. Ralthavar was eating one of his father's cat buns as he was also reading a letter from the family. "It's too bad I can't take the Harmonious First out there. I'm sure we'd take the Black Gate if we were at full strength." Folding the piece of paper into one of his pouches Ralthavar cracked his neck and began to walk towards the orc forts.

Ever since the orcs had the Headmaster's clearance, they made quick work of the surrounding forest. They converted the wood into support beams, used the school's workshops to create furniture and metal structures, and magic to draw ore strait from the ground itself. This resulted in a construction that utterly dwarfed the ice fort that the orcs originally made. The first thing that the academy would see would be the gates. Without the need to restrict themselves, the they put their hearts into making it truly "Orky". Which meant a lot of fire and pointy bits. The gate itself was taller than the original fortress, and has in fact replaced the fortress. And to replace the fortress, veritable citadel of stone, metal, and wood stood beyond the gates, at least a ten times larger than the fortress once was. It was large and sturdy enough to even support the likes of Biggy and Ier, and in fact had specific accommodations to deal with both. Even with a hundred orcs inside, there was plenty of room. It was so large in fact, Ralthavar had to convince other students to hang around the fortress just so it doesn't feel so empty. He had written a letter back home after the initial construction of the fort to ask more families to send their children to the academy, as the fortress also had dormitory space for at least another five hundred.

Ralthavar of course had free reign of the fortress, as well as the best spot; the ">very top. His original dorm has been largely converted into holding space for his school supplies, at least the ones that had nothing to do with weapons or armor. There he did most of the orc's accounting and making sure that they were not overspending and that everyone was getting their fair share of pay. Most of the had a good idea of what their pay ought to be, however it was Ralthavar's business to make sure the school wasn't trying to sell them out short.

Ralthavar walked through the fortress with Andari, and though everyone was busy doing something, neither two had to worry about bumping into anyone with the large spaces. Ralthavar was heading towards the armory where he kept some of his weapons. Some, being that the orcs also started to make new weapons in the event that they lost, broke, or got bored with what they already had. They also began to research new weapons from the Earthlings, the first and foremost being the chainsaw and machine guns. They wanted to weaponize the screaming metal terror, and they felt that the machine guns should shoot more bullets, to the point that a short burst ought to be able to cut down (Or otherwise obliterate) a small forest of tress. It was a work in progress and certainly gave the orcs something to do, outside of working on relations or school.

Once Ralthavar reached his personal armory, he took his former magic staff and the Ahlspiess to a magical rune circle. Here he would use a Warlock ritual to change the focusing device from his staff to the Ahlspiess. A simple enough task, but than he also had to look what sort of power was inside the skull his father sent to him. A simple enough task, one that he did commonly enough back at home that he was able to finish as soon as he changed the focus. The skull belonged to an Arcane Caster, or also known as a wizard. A type of spell caster who gained their power through book learning, so basically a contrast of a warlock. It didn't matter to Ralthavar however, as power was power, and there was much inside this skull. He added it to his Ahlspiess along with the other skulls, and once his magic spear was complete Ralthavar went to retreive his other weapons, such as his battle axe, the Boulderhead Mace, and his smashing board. Also known as a shield with a spike. He also brought his shotgun, and even had this interesting device which he could use to quickly take shotgun shells out, but would otherwise be safely secure. And if it wasn't for the fact that Ralthavar intended to bring Andari, he would have worn his heavy plate armor, but since he did plan to bring his Wargon along Ralthavar opted for an armored coat and his Unicorn Helmet. Silly as it sounded, visually it was a unicorn's skull that served as a full helmet, not only protecting his face and head, but also giving him the unicorn's magical and often powerful horn as a weapon. A recent invention the orcs made after they discovered the creature while clearing out the forest.

Once armed and armored, Ralthavar and Andari left the fortress after eating a hearty meal and receiving some buffs from the local mages. They would last them a few hours, which was good since they were going to embark on a mission. The school was going to take various students into the Black Gate to face the obstacle within. Ralth would be working in small groups with a few strangers he knew, as well as Ayaka, who he knew rather intimately. From what he could gather, most of his allies would do well in a melee, but not so much at range. But than again he didn't really know much about his potential allies even after they demonstration, so they could always provide a good surprise. Ralthavar arrived with others at the same location where the griffons dropped them off the first day. Soon new creatures came to pic them up; metal vehicles that were substantially less graceful and subdue than the griffons, but also were much more powerful. Raltahvar had to brace himself with his Ahlspiess to make sure he didn't get knocked over from the gust of wind the vehicles produced. Seeing that Biggy and Ier was here, he figured that the school provided these constructs in order to carry both of them towards their destination. One the vehicles landed, Ralthavar and Andari filed into one of the flying contraptions.

The trip to the mission area was a relatively short one, about thirty minutes or so. Ralthavar was excited to be honest. It had been at least two weeks since he last got to kill something that wasn't made of wood. Soon he heard gunfire from the other vehicles signalling their arrival. He looked outside the window and was in awed as he saw automatic fire tear through the small guard of monstrous creatures, finished off with dragon fire. Once the landing zone was clear Ralthavar donned his helmet and got onto Andari's back.

"It will be good to hunt with you again, my friend."

"Likewise. Now let's go. It's been too long since I've torn something apart."

Though Mary didn't make too many friends, she didn't lose spirit. She just figured that without Biggy, she wasn't all that... Impressive. She knew that though she'll never admit it. And with some new gear, she hopes she wouldn't have to either. During her off hours she managed to develop three fully function weapons that she could use without the assistance of Biggy or her drones. One was a Repulsar Fist; using a magnetic accelerators powered by a energy cell, she could release a recoilless but high-impact burst of energy from her fist. It was short range, but for what she needed it for she wouldn't need it beyond arm's length. Though mostly untested, Mary hopes to make use of it here today. She also had two unique firearms; she disliked the noise and handling of guns, so she made beam weapons instead. Her primary was a Laser Assisted Electronic Rifle, which uses energy produced from a fusion battery to fire either a sustained beam of heat energy at a target, or powerful but short bursts. And as a side arm she also had what she calls a Pulse Gun, it was a mix of a stun gun and an EMP. Highly effective against malfunctioning drones, and even against biological targets it'll shock their nervous systems and possibly paralyze them. Again, untested and the results are mostly hypothetical. But now was as good of a time to test them as any other.

Mary also armed Biggy with his usual armament. She activated his Microfusion Breeder to enable his energy weapons and supplied bullets and rockets to his guns, as well as lubricated his pistons in order to activate his "Sudden Impact" attack. Mary also began to work on some new drones, however they could not be completed to functional use by the time the mission would begin, so she had to make due with just Biggy. The last thing Mary did before having breakfast was done her school's uniform. She tried to get use to wearing the armored variant, however she disliked how hard it was to breath in it, so she opted for the standard uniform instead.

Mary's breakfast was simple eggs, bacon, tomatoes, and spinach, downed with a glass of orange juice. It was filling and gave Mary lots of energy, and she'll need it for today. Once she finished breakfast she went back to Biggy and entered the cockpit. She headed towards the landing zone where the griffons first dropped them off. There was some of the others already present, which made Mary even more excited. Teams have already been formed and when she saw who she had to work with, she introduced herself. "I am Mariam Machina, but you can call me Mary." She said while still inside of Biggy.

Not much else was said on the trip there, and Mary was so excited she didn't even take notice of how long it took. She had stayed inside of Biggy, who was strapped to the bottom of the carriers, and once the area was clear and they landed, Mary was almost tempted to give a energetic shout. But she held it in, sweat on her hands, ready to show her stuff. Chris mentioned being in charge of the group, which was fine with her. she was just excited to get this show on the road.
