Advanced magic and advanced science are basically indistinguishable from one another. It's just the explanation that makes them different.

How does that power suit work? Science answer: "Oh it has a fusion reactor." Magic Answer: "Oh it has a powerful magical core."

How does that gattling gun work? "Gunpowder." "Kinetic energy spell."

How does that plasma rifle work. "Oh it has a plasma cell that holds inert ammunition before its primed and fired." "Oh it's enchanted with a high-class flame spell that requires an external source of mana to activate. Which is supplied by its "battery" packs."

How is Kuro so strong? "Nanomachines. And copious genetic/bio-engineering." "He's an oni."

Seriously.

Actually that's a misinterpretation of the quote "Sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic." It does not mean that magic is science. Magic has to do with the arcane and regularly breaks the established laws of nature, usually the law of conservation of mass/energy. Science is fact. Hard sci-fi is based in fact, and generally entails technology we expect to be available in the next one or two centuries (see Cowboy Bebop). Soft sci-fi is further on, but still has some sort of scientific explanation (see WH40k.)

Remind me what about psychic space elves and emotion-fuelled gods is scientific.

No, not really. You can achieve the same ends with magic that you could with science for the most part. The way it gets done is just different.

Science achieving what magic can on the other hand is more wonky, and can stray into the applied phlebotinum area really quickly though.

Not that part specifically (though it does prove my point that magic isn't the same as science). But a lot of the Imperium's and especially the IG's equipment is laser guns, space ships, and genetic enhancements.
You can actually get relatively detailed specifications for how a Bolter works; it's got a similar principal to Gyrojet.

And there's literally no reason a Bolter couldn't work through magical means.

No, magic tends to be super metaphysical, and is generally something along the lines of "using the power of your soul to project your will onto the fabric of reality".
When you use artifacts to power machinery, that's magitech, which is a whole other kettle of fish.

Yeah, but then you're using magic, and not science.

Not really, given magic is so broad and diverse nowadays. And even then, "using your soul to project your will onto the fabric of reality" doesn't clash with magic powered "tech" in any fashion.

And they still do the same thing, that's been my whole point. You can get the same result through different means.

You mean magitech? Because that's actually just magitech.

Um... everyone realizes this isn't combat-focused, right? The combat is entirely optional and a side-thing?... Also those powers are reeeeaaally vague and easily broken.

Fair enough. Though I didn't list any specific powers. I was honestly thinking of more "spirit detective" kinda stuff than being some kind of hyper-lethal necromancer. Seeing how long a person has left to live, talking to ghosts and corpses, opening underworld gates, maybe some ectoplasm-related powers. Kinda somewhere between weird fiction and a horror movie for his powers I guess?

Yeah. Magitech. Tech that works by integrating magic into its design.

Oh. Fuck, then. You should have just said magitech in the first place. Yeah, magitech is cool.

....Why don't we just have magitech exosuits then?

Because it's unwanted and superfluous.

It's not unwanted if a potential player, y'know, wants it.
And it's not superfluous if we've got a bunch of other guys shooting fireballs, and magic katanas out the wazoo.

It's unwanted if GM's don't want it; it's superfluous if you can get the same abilities through means that fit with the setting the RP is trying to establish.

But it is if the GM declares it to be. And they have. Might as well just drop it and find a different RP, or CONFORM AND BE ASSIMILATED.

GM didn't actually confirm anything, only the co-GM has expressed a dislike for them. Exosuits are still a possibility.
Besides, you shouldn't reject an idea right off the bat if it might be fun. If people shot down every fun idea someone had, we wouldn't have the Amazing Screw-On Head.

I'm sorry to say, but it's becoming increasingly clear that people have misunderstood the premise and intended tone of this and honestly, I'm struggling to write anything with people wanting something so different to what this was meant to be. As such, I'm going to have to call the RP off.
