The End is Nigh.

20 years ago, the Great Cataclysm occurred.
Billions of people, in a single instant, disappeared across the world. Vehicles crashed, important machines went unoperated, it was a catastrophe. However, what only made it worse was humanity's response to the disaster. Mass Chaos ensued, and governments soon found themselve's overwhelmed. Many nations were faced with Economic collapse, and turned on each other. This only made things even worse than before. Untold amounts of people are dead.

The Global Welfare Confederation formed in this disaster, to calm things down. While initially benevolent, it quickly became the target of corruption. One of its council members, one Adrian Delmore, managed to negotiate a peace treaty that ended the most terrible conflict between Russia and the Middle Eastern Powers. In addition, he's also begun rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem.
As Adrian Delmore's popularity grows, so does his power. He is now the de facto dictator of the world. He's attempting to set up global banking institutions with a single currency, create a one-world state, and he's even made a global state religion.
However, not all are happy about Delmore's rule. One group in particular, the Yeshuite Coallition, has proven troublesome to Delmore. A cult of people who have readopted "antiquated" ideals from before the cataclysm, and their allies. They are violently opposed to Delmore's rule.
Our characters would be members of the Yeshuite Coallition, who are attempting to organize a rebel militia against the GWC.

Prometheism: Prometheism is the global state religion of the GWC. It's a religion founded by Ira Mankato, who's also the current head of the church. It formed shortly before the cataclysm, but rapidly grew after it. It's beliefs go something like this: In the beginning, there was the Age of Silence. The Divines held the world in their hands, under complete control. Mankind was not allowed to question their rule, and no words of dissent came from their lips. But then, one divine, known as Prometheus, decided that the tyrannical rule was immoral, and so he broke away from the other divines, and pleaded with mankind to rebel against the Divines. This broke the Age of Silence. However, the Divines are now angry with the world, and have been punishing it ever since. But one day, Prometheus will send unto them a messiah to broker mankind's liberation, and we shall be free of tyranny forever.

The Yeshuites: After the Cataclysm, Christianity stopped being a mainstream religion. In fact, it has less than 1 million members at this point. Most people by far, in fact, do believe in God, but seriously doubt his morality ("if God's so good, why is all this happening?"), and even consider him to be the "Tyrant Divine" of Prometheism. However, there were those who decided to readopt Christian ideals, and say that even though all this is happening, it's still a good idea to follow YHWH. This group became known as the Yeshuites. They consider there to be sufficient evidence to label Adrian Delmore as the Beast of Revelation (frankly, they consider it to be rather obvious. Delmore barely even denies it). As such, they're attempting to organize a rebel militia against Delmore. The Yeshuites are a covert agency, with their operatives being given something called an "Icthus Implant", which allows them to identify other operatives.

Technology in this World:
Because this RP takes place 150 years (or more) into the future, there are certain technological advances that pucker the war torn apocalyptic landscape. Most of these technologies are used extensively by the GWC to oppress, though the Yeshuites are by no means luddites. In fact, they might very well like technology more than the GWC, but they usually have to put up with not having it (for economic reasons and what all). Certain advances are:

-Genetic Engineering: It's now possible to greatly rework the human genome, and give people certain modifications. For example, if you don't like your eye color, one injection can change it overnight! This can also be used to greater potential, such as increasing a person's strength.
-Advanced AI: It's now possible, even common, to see machines with animal like intellect. Slightly more rare, there are AIs that match and sometimes even exceed human intellect.
-PSI Amp: The PSI Amp is a glove which works as a high-tech multi tool. Depending on which app is loaded, it can create a tractor beam, generate *insert favorite element here*, cause teleportation, among other things.
-Cybernetics: Some people have technology grafted into their body, which allows for certain things like tools mounted on your limbs and whatnot.
-Nanotechnology: Cell-sized machines, which can be injected into a human body to improve performance.

-Backstory: A former member of the GWC Peacekeepers, back when it was more sane. When Adrian Delmore came into power, the organization started to change and he could feel it. He stuck with the organization up until he was assigned to interrogate a preacher they had arrested. He was surprised at the Preacher's faith, and took a scholarly interest in Christianity. After that event, though, it was too hard to keep working there, so he left. 2 years after his retirement, his scholarly interest grew into an actual belief in Christianity, and he realized how far gone the world really is. So, he went on to join the YC.

I don't know a thing about Gnostics.

As for Left Behind...it was ok. I didn't think it was very well written, too many characters, poor logic (I'm pretty much paraphrasing Left Behind earlier. They actually think the Rapture was caused by Radiation or something), and there were too many books (I'd rather finish your book series before the ACTUAL rapture, thank you). What I really liked was the Christ Clone Trilogy.

I'm in. :>

Name: Daren Heiligwald
Age: 17
Quote: "I won't reduce myself to hatred. I love all, and I have hope."
Theme:
Appearance: Daren is of average height, roughly 5'10", and of average weight, around 165 pounds. He has soft, medium-length brown hair layered with shorter cut hair on the sides, and he has big, dark brown eyes that look like amber in the light. When he doesn't shave, his facial hair covers pretty much the entire bottom half of his face, like a regular beard.
Religion: Christianity, practiced in a way similar to the old rite of Catholicism before the Cataclysm, many of its core beliefs and practices maintained by a religious family for generations in the dark. Sometimes verges on gnosticism.
Occupation: None, at the moment, but aligned and active with the YC. Volunteers often, especially with first aid and as a medic, and takes up writing and art as his main hobbies.
Weapons/Equipment: Unarmed.
Skills: Good at strategy/tactics, persuasion, critical thinking, and problem solving. High analytical and cognitive ability. Halfway decent at predicting future events from current knowledge. Fights personal bias and sees bias and propaganda/corruption easily.
Implants: Icthus Implant.
Backstory: Heiligwald's father came from German and English descent, and Heiligwald's mother came from oriental descent. Being devout Catholics, they died in the Rapture in Daren's earlier years, around age 12, and left him utterly alone. Their deaths pushed him to renounce Christianity as his faith and become atheist. 5 years passed, and Daren received visions from beyond. He was warned of Delmore, and his suspicions once held down in the back of his mind developed into a understanding of Delmore's depravity. He was told of the transcendent destiny in the future of mankind, and he decided that he would work within the YC to destroy the GWC and subdue the threat of Delmore. These visions forced him into the role as a chosen hero, and he became devout, reviving many forgotten practices.

Some changes I'd suggest:

For skills: being adamant or upright are virtues, not skills. Being intellectual is technically a skill, but it's extremely vague.
In general, I think I'd like a better idea of what Daren can do and who he is. If not any occupational history, why not a hobby or something? Or whatever skills they've needed to live through the apocalypse?

Personally, I was a little undecided on the occupation since I didn't have much in the way of details to pick from. If I had some idea of exactly what the YC is and what positions or occupations exist at this point in time, I could more decidedly put something down.

I already planned on changing skills since I had afterthoughts matching what you just said.

Edit (11/26/14 01:20 CST): Changed skills, awaiting more information on occupations.

One more thing: Christians were all raptured in the cataclysm, and the religion was rediscovered later by our characters. You may wish to adjust your character's history to that (IE, his parents were raptured when he wasn't christian, and he became christian after).

-Religion: Atheist

-Occupation: Spy

-Weapons/Equipment: Simple hand gun along with a switch blade

I'm thinking I'll start the IC, now, but we're still accepting new characters, so fear not.
