These are people who would rather die horrible slow deaths then betray their countrymen. You can make them vegetables but getting any information out of them is going to be hard. Oh, and dont take youe eyes off them, they will take every opportunity to escape

So, hello everyone. I'm not sure if any of you still care, but I apologize for my llong leave of absence.Basically, to make a long story REALLY short, I had, a sort, of breakdown. I lost my job, had some really nasty stuff happen, and have been living with my parents all this time, avoiding everything I dealt with back home (Including RPG). Not that this was a bad thing, I actually enjoyed this the most, especially this RP (hence why I am only bothering to write this here). You guys are an awesome group to RP with, and I am sorry I just left abruptly. It's only now that I have worked up the courage to come back, and explain this all to you guys. I'm not looking to rejoin this RP, I just felt you all deserved to hear a reason why I left and potentially messed up a few stories.

Damn, sorry to hear that man. Don't worry about messed up stories or anything, mate, its all fine. I wish you luck.

Thanks guys, it means a lot to hear all your comforting words ^^

So, what is the general status of the Ethereals? Did they just disappear, or were they defeated? I don't mind, just curious :3

Well, all space with Etherals has frozen. As in to say, there has not been a single post regarding Etherals, so you can pick up wherever, if you'd like.

Cause we all're here for ya... I hope we are, that is. I had a breakdown too, once upon a time, so you're not alone! Just remember that- maybe lonely, but never alone.

I am not sure where we even left off with the Ethereals.

Oh and it might be helpful knowledge to ya Kyelin, the Iscandarians have been corrupted by a force known as Chaos since you have been gone so yeah.

Well, you had the Matron Suit, but if you are corrupted now, you will not be able to use it. It can't be influenced by those who are a threat to galactic existence, except the Ehtereals, who use a secret method to trick them into working for it.

Well they are not a threat to to galactic existence, they do not want to destroy it so much as estiblish themselves as a dominate power and rule over it.

@Duck

Even then, the suits are not used to exercise power over others. I don't remember when I posted that in IC, but it did state it can't be used against those who aren't a threat to the galaxy, I think it was at facility a 1

Edit: Come to think of it, I am tempted on actually scrapping the Gathering altogether. I have a cool idea for another Big Bad Nation, which wouldn't use ships or even weapons, technically. If of course you guys wouldn't mind :P

@Everyone

Don't use directions such as "directly above" or "to the left of." This is SPACE- what is your up could be someone else's down or left. Two fleets could meet, and one might be thinking of the planet as "directly below them", while the other will be thinking it of as "directly in front of them." Saying a station is right above a planet- that's like saying it's in orbit. And obviously, you only have one station in orbit if you expect them to know which one you're talking about. Now I'm not trying to pick on you Duck- I just now really noticed it.

Directions such as those are EXTREMELY relative in space- giving directions like left-right, up-down, etc., is like saying something is in space. DON'T- you're in space. Left and rights work in 2-D warfare or maps. If you're playing C&C, or Banished, or some other game, then sure, those are viable options- North, South, East, and West. It's a 2-D plane- there's a definite up and down. But we're in SPACE- a 3-D plane that extends in every direction possible so far that we could fly for a thousand years, and never reach the edge. Saying "directly above a planet" is about as accurate as saying the sandwich is in the kitchen... where there's a party ongoing and everyone has sandwiches. Which sandwich? Is it the one farthest to the North-Eastern corner? Is it the one closest to the roof? The one on the floor?

You can continue roleplaying as if everything is 2-D ((I know; it's hard to think of the universe as 3-D, since we've been 2-D all our life)), but just know that I'll act as if you were speaking 2-D, in 3-D space... so my Valkians will tell you to either bugger off and stop trying to insult them, or give you actual coordinates. Space won't be navigated by north, east, west, or south, it'll be navigated by coordinates, perhaps being relative your homeworld, your homeworld's sun, or the Galactic Center.

Just something to think about in your future posts.

Also, if I remember right, 4-dimensional coordinates could be used for coordinated military movements. For example, giving the x, y, and z are just the first three digits of four- they give the coordinates of the spot. The fourth digit, the, let's say, T, is for "Time." So giving a 4, 6, 8, 100, may mean to the spot that is +four lightyears to the Galactic-North/South, +six lightyears to the Galactic-West/East, and +eight lightyears to the Galactic-Up/Down, and then the 100 may mean in 100 AS, or 100 After-Space (When you get into space as a spacefaring power). If you were in, say, 99 AS, and told multiple ships to be at certain coordinates at a certain time, then you'd have everyone in position at a precise point, in which you can beam communications, using a closed-circuit type that can only be communicated by if it actually hits a received, to your allies without giving yourself away.

Just a thought.

Wilson. Keep things simple and stop nitpicking.

If I have a ship, it has a top and bottom etc. So if you were to say your ship came out above mine, its obvious that the ship came out relative to the top of mine, thus being above.

What's so hard to understand.. Why use 3d or 4d coordinates which would require calculus and trigonometry to figure distance speed and angle.. Like what if my ship is coming at a 30' angle from the aft of your ship, hell its coming from your 125' horizontal by 77' degree vertical from your ships center of gravity. With my ship spinning counter clockwise at 2 meters a second at a distance of 1542km at a speed of approximately 700km/h. And at that moment, your vessel is travelling forward relative to your own center.. At a speed of roughly 250km/h.. If you use metric.

I mean seriously Wilson. You want watts calculated for weapon output and half life measurements for any atomic structures? Shit lets do core temperature and armor density at point of scan.. Or maybe drift and spin of your ship.. Ya know, throw some astral winds etc. Oooh and the mass of a nearby moon to calculate the gravitational pull on the ship. Imagine calculating fleet actions. That would be pretty ridiculous! Plotting individual angle of approach and distance so that your ships do not bump in to each other while traveling.

Should I continue explaining how entirely fun free a rp based on math homework would be? Or can we stick with the generic anime style combat and keep this simple..

No, I understand relative to a ship, when it's close by, or relative to a station or somesuch. But a planet is a giant round ball- there is no spot that is the top of the world, and the bottom of the world. Saying that something is directly above a planet is just saying it's in orbit, and that's about it. If you have one station, it'll be fine, since that's the only one around, but if Duck has many stations, as one might know based on his dozens of defense stations at the Colony of New Condia, then that's about as accurate as, again, saying there's a book in the library.

I'm not saying make actual coordinates- I was just suggesting that one just says "Sending the coordinates" instead of "Directly above that planet over there." I was suggesting using the word 'coordinates', and simply explained why one might want to use them over using relative 2-D directions for everything. And if one liked the idea of 4-D coordinates, then they could say, here's a list of fourth dimensional coordinates, do not stray or you'll be taken for hostile.

And if we were going with generic 'anime' style combat, then we'd have regular fighter jets that turn into robots and beat the crap out of each other in space and on the ground. And use weapons that are about as realistically effective as a rubber sword against a real one.

So there is no north or south poles? There is no particular reason that compasses always point north? Fascinating. Perhaps you should read up on planetary bodies and magnet is.

Wouldnt it be easier to just say all planets north poles are set north? I'd figure space faring super nations ships would have the ability to register the magnetic field to tell where north is.. Why must this be complicated? Seriously.. Why?

And when did anime style mean fighting robots? I didn't know that to have any anime set in space requires giant fighters that turn in to robots... Guess Disney style shows requires a girl with long hair for a guy to climb to get to her..

Oh wait, that's just one show.

Congratulations, you too are being an asshole without a real reason to be.

A planet is a ball, yes, a ball, a giant sphere of crap thrown together, so giant that it has gravity/ Yes, magnetic fields, too, are given off by this giant sphere of crap, but you see, it's a giant fucking sphere, and that means "up" is really only relative to where you are- if you're in space, up may be the planet, up may be from the planet to the sun, that direction, it may be away from the planet, especially if you're on it, so you see, "up" is really very relative when it comes to planets- unless we are fighting still in 2-D, which both makes it harder to attack people, tremendously limits the worlds and systems that we can expand to, and makes it far easier to defend, then "Up", and therefore, "above" is really very strictly relative with something that any directions are so extremely relative that you literally can't use them.

I... What? I thought we are referencing the object that is being affected by our actions. Wouldn't me saying my object is above your object be relative to your object? Your up becomes my up by default by clearly saying I am above you.

You also keep referencing combat simulators where the objective is to win. I am not here to win, play a story. Yeah using tactics is great but collab them maybe? Eh, nevermind. You don't get it. Also, planets are slightly wider at their equator. Not a perfect sphere. Just a fun fact :)

Moving on. Duck, was Apollo ok with your archmage just overriding his soldiers mental defenses? I'm just interested as to how that arc will turn out, seeing as the septonians are in a real pickle now.

Sorry for double post but to be above a planet would technically be at its northern most point (for that planet.) but to say its in orbit or what not would require a clear description as to where every city or continent is. So if you want that detail, name your planets, continents and cities. I can then say, I'm positioning my shit over... Say Africa. I'm not, and wouldn't expect anyone to literally plan out coordinates for a planet.

Now, moving on.

He has not overridden them, although I do not think Kacha is going to last long. His own blood is draining from and he looses energy fast.
