MASS EFFECT: LET THE GALAXY BURN
3/6 Spots Filled

Centuries have passed since the destruction of the Reapers and the death of Commander Shepard. Surviving an age of isolation, the sentient races finally succeeded in recreating the mass relays, which opened space once again. The Cathedral, the Citadel renamed, was soon after built. Unlike the previous history of councils, the current Council houses a representative from all races whom participated in the war against the Reapers: salarian, turian, asari, krogan, geth, human, quarian, and drell. With the new unification of the species, and the old hostilities put on hold, all galaxy species lived through a golden age of peace, which brought about growth and technological advancements.

It wasn’t long until the sorely sought after peace was shattered. Joint-species space stations had become the new norm. Built throughout almost all systems, each were pinnacle in maintaing order in their designated region. When stations began out of contact in Titan Nebula, the Alliance responded to the Council’s sanctions and sent a reconnaissance. Expecting a report logistical error, the Cathedral became ever more alarmed when the Alliance recon team failed to report it. Soon after, a human colony disappeared and the team sent there disappeared as well.

Learning from the past, militaries were once again called forth. The unannounced fear of another greater enemy slowly crept into the mind of all Council members.

It wasn’t long until they finally revealed themselves. On every galaxy channel, in every system, the following warning was given to all:

Long have we slumbered in dark respite.
What you have learned to fear, the Reapers,
They have feared us. Their very existence pales
To us. We are Legion. We are many. We are the destroyer.
We are the arbiters. We are the executioners.

When the transmission ended, the Council wasted no time in disputing the validity of the threat. Whatever threats had anything thing to do with the Reapers, they responded with the only logical decision. The races all prepared for another war. Be it a hoax or not, they prepared. What research was put into domestic was once again swung in the favor for military might. Though the races were still feeling the effects of the last great war, they mustered all they could in preparation for the next.

Part of the military buildup directive, the Council created a new shadow group. Made up of all races with only the most elite considered for recruitment, Echelon, led by the illusive Directors and Council, was created. Armed with the best equipment that the galaxy could afford, these souls would be the vanguard against Legion. Their directive grants them total autonomy with regards to using any means necessary to prevent or hinder the Legion’s advance.

Centuries had passed since Shepard’s conquest over the Reapers. Again, the strength of the Council’s species are being tested by an enemy who claims dominance over the greatest threat sentient life has encountered yet. Will sentient life prevail or will the galaxy burn?

The year is 300 A.R.

Mandatory Guidelines:

1. First and foremost, realism is expected from every player. Though Commander Shepard survived near impossible odds, our cast shall not be as invulnerable. Each and everyone is a unique and average individual who are performing in extraordinary circumstances. Have your characters get wounded, throw a tirade, and whatever else comes to mind. At the end of the day, it’s all about realism here folks.

2. Over the span of months, your GM has created a story arc, which the plot will follow. However, this doesn’t mean creativity amongst the players is prohibited. Quite the contrary in fact. Feel free to throw in a twist. The arc will adapt to whatever and wherever the story may go from there.

3. The GM’s word is law. If you, the players, have any ideas to bring up, tell me! I would love to talk about it and see if we can fit it in somewhere. However, when a decision is made, please accept it.

4. Posting. As long as each person responds at least once a week, everything will be just peachy. If there’s a prolonged absence of an individual, I will inquire of their status via PM. Only if I haven’t gotten a response back from him or her or he or she told me they lost interest, I will kill off the character and reopen the spot.

5. If you’re being rude outside of an in-character post, I will give you a warning. I don’t want some flame war going on in the OOC. Be civil. The internet can be just the most offensive place sometimes, and I’d rather keep a cordial environment for all to take part in and enjoy.

6. Have fun! This is probably the number one reason why we do what we do. It is for me anyways. Even if the above guidelines may be a tad blunt and/or harsh, they exist in the spirit of making this as enjoyable as possible for all.

That wraps this section up. I will amend the guidelines as needed, so please keep up to date with these. I will post message when something is either added or removed.

Authorized classified release: Echelon

Created in the year 300 A.R., the Council saw fit to outfit a shadow group constructed solely to combat the Legion threat. A conglomeration of the best and brightest of all species, the diversity aspect, in the Councils hopes, would contribute to a more holistic team capable of adapting.

To balance the power, the group known as the Directors was created. Selected with the utmost care and secrecy, it is this group that holds overall decisions with regards to Echelon’s activities. As the Council holds the Spectres in check, so does the Directors keep their operatives in line. Nothing conclusive is known about the Directors, for their communication is given through proxies, namely, cell leaders for each Echelon unit. All that is known is that each Director is competent in a certain field, which makes them invaluable to Echelon’s running. The number of active personnel and cell total is only known to the Directors.

The structure of Echelon:

Echelon Auxiliary - Space Outfit

Legion Profile:

Little is still known about the Legion. Like the Reapers, scientist seem to agree that they are the same in nature with regards to mission and physiology.

Sounds good you two! I'm going to throw this out there just in case this happens. If we somehow get more than six folks who show interest, I'll be asking for a writing sample to choose the six. I thought I'd let all of you know up front. This isn't meant to be a rude or mean. I just think six characters is the optimal number for this roleplay.

Geth Pulse Sniper Rifle
M9 Tempest Submachine Gun,
Elcoss-Combine Carnifex Hand Cannon

Speciality: Soldier

Powers: Adrenaline Rush
Concussive Shot
Incendiary Ammo

Homeworld: Palaven

History: Born on Palaven, Saren Actius was raised by his father, Rear Admiral Tullius Actius, and enlisted in the Turian Special Forces at 15. When Boot Camp ended, he was assigned to a black ops hastatim(Turian Death Squad) squad designed to root out homegrown terrorists. After five years of that, he was reassigned to his father's company, and worked that for seven months, before being assigned to the Primarch protection detail. Two weeks into the detail, he was approached by Echelon.

Writing Sample
Dusk broke over Palaven as Saren Actius rose from his bed, putting a claw over his eyes as he shielded himself from the light. As his eyes adjusted, he turned to the wardrobe in the corner, and dressed himself quickly. In less than a minute, he had his armor on, and boots secured. Leaving the room, he strode down the hall, briskness in his pace as an Asari fell into step behind him. Her name was Lylis,

The Asari stood Five feet, four inches tall, and compared to Saren, she looked tiny. That didn't stop the pink hued alien from exuberating cheer. "Morning, Saren." she chirped. Saren simply nodded, too focused on the task at hand. He was part of the protection detail for the Primarch, and as it happened, the Council was coming here. The fact didn't make his job any easier, which was why he walked with such determined purpose. Lylis noted this, and either didn't care about or outright ignored his frosty disposition. Among the other soldiers, it was rumored that Lylis had a crush on the Turian; The rumor was true.. "Why the rush?" She said, beaming at him with a smile. Saren scowled, and hurried on. He came to a T shaped intersection, and following the signs, turned right. After a brief two minute walk, he came to the armory, and pressed his claw against the scanner. It beeped in confirmation, and after scanning his eye, allowed him access to the room. Moving quickly, he gathered his standard loadout and additional ammunition before exiting. Checking his omnitool, Saren noted that 14 minutes had passed between waking up and arming himself. From his current position, he could easily reach the Primarch's room in less than 3.

Primarch Tullan Vitus stared sleepily at an extranet terminal. He had spent all night reviewing and re-reviewing all of the useable data on the Legion. Today, he would have to speak with the Council concerning the Hierarchy's response to the Legion threat, and how, if at all, they were connected to the Reapers. Were they an offshoot? A failed forerunner to the Reapers themselves? Vitus sighed and pinched his nose, frustration commingling with sleep deprivation. That was the cost of having so little data to work with: Conjecture. While most documented threats had left evidence, clues behind, there was literally no galactic evidence of the Legion ever existing before the galaxy wide broadcast. What made things worse was that Palaven was still rebuilding, stretched thin over the galactic landscape helping to rebuild both the Turian home world and its colonies as well as the pan-species restoration efforts.

Suddenly the door slid open, and his Head of Security, a tough older Turian with heavy facial scars, came in. His name was Varius. "SIr, your detail is waiting for you in the den; I've posted Vis and Rax outside your door. Let them know when you're ready and they'll escort you to the main detail. Vitus nodded, accepting. He was used to these tight measures and close-guarded efforts. After all, Without a Primarch, Palaven has no leader.

Meanwhile, Saren was in the den, being briefed with the rest of the squad. There were eight men in total, all turian, and all hardened by years of service. They knew what it took to defend an asset from hostile action, and they knew how to react. Like Saren, most had been hardened by the harsh and brutal Hastatim service before being transferred over to Primarch protection. Effectiveness and Lethality was drilled into them, and pain was seen as weakness leaving the body. "Listen up." the Head of Security said, his voice clear and tight, calm amidst the security nightmare they all knew this would likely turn out to be.
