No-one knew exactly when the ship first drifted into the system but as soon as word that it was the Lone Star, thought to have been lost with all hands a decade earlier, every freebooter, scavenger and rogue trader were racing to be the first to board her. Stories of the alien and ancient treasures hidden within her hull had them all salivating and before long the first bodies began to appear in back alleys and floating in rivers.

Finally the United Alliance Navy stepped in to quarantine the derelict, using the threat of alien diseases and possible contamination as an excuse to hold back the looters until a properly funded and equipped salvage mission could be mounted. Somehow you managed to make the shortlist for the crew, whether due to your skills, social connections or simply because they couldn't find anyone else willing to take the risk of cracking the possibly deadly seals on the ship's airlocks, and now as you sat on the shuttle launched towards the wreck you wonder to yourself whether the more than generous bounty being paid was really worth it.

---

Looking for a likely team of space adventurers to help discover the secrets of the Lone Star, discovering both the fate of the original crew and the surprises hidden both on-board the ship and back home using a character driven narrative style where I'll be changing the course of events depending on the actions of players involved. Further details to be determined once players decide what sort of characters they'd like to portray, as the squad make-up will influence the events as much as the background.

The setting is a far future science fiction environment with all sorts of high-tech gadgets at your disposal and a mixed alien-human culture spanning many thousands of star systems. Players are invited to create their own characters and equip them with a reasonable array of skills and equipment which would be available to a privateer given access to a high-end military armoury while keeping in mind encumbrance and ammunition requirements (although these will be fairly open since advanced energy weapons and light-weight materials should make things easier for the crew.)

Anyone interested in participating should post up a brief synopsis of the character they'd like to play as, with as much creative freedom given to the creation as you'd like.

I think they're onto me and I won't be able to delay the Navy much longer. Whatever you're gonna do, you'd better get it done fast. At this rate the Rats'll be all over that ship within the week.

GET YOUR CREW ON BOARD THAT WRECK NOW!

Interested.

Edit: I am leaning toward the idea of playing a character that served under a small-time dictator that used genetically engineered troops as his corps of enforcers; perhaps even a North Korea style state with a cult of personality and lots of political repression. His son, upon coming to power, feared the power of this group of genetically engineered troops and, in the course of the struggles within the system, purged out these troops. This character would be the survivor of that purge, unable to go home and not likely to be hired by many reputable employers due to a distaste for the regime he worked for (hell, maybe there's even a background of war crimes). Of course, he probably falls into the shady side of mercenary work. I can be flexible with the specialist training he might possess.

Would you need an engineer? I'd like to play one if you can use me.

I would consider playing an ex soldier who was put into a cryogenic sleep after war left him with severe post-traumatic stress. He would have only been woken from this sleep a year prior to the beginning of the story.

A nice mix between space-exploration (sort of) and a horror sort of RP. I'm in.

I'll put down an interest for this, I'm having a bit of a hankering for sci-fi recently.

Well, if the GM does come back I will be here and looking to create a character for this. Not sure what the character might be quite yet.

I'm possibly in. I'd love a little Dead Space style in my life. I'd like to see where others are going with their characters but I would tentatively want to be a engineer that deals with reverse engineering possibilities in alien tech. There already seems to be engineer interest so if those people follow through I think I will go for (secretly over zealous religious) pilot.

Sorry for the late reply, this got hijacked into a Star Wars themed adventure in my local club and so I had to retool it slightly for live group play. If people are still interested I'll be free to start this up soon (plus it's now been RL playtested :) )

Sounds like a useful member of the party in case anything goes wrong on board the ship. Specialist training would have to depend on who else was in the party, but anything from weapon and armour maintenance to field medicine could be useful.

I'm interested! Would a tech specialist be appropriate?

Since this mission is a boarding action mechanical engineering, electronics, computer skills and encryption could be useful. Some knowledge of ship design and maintenance would be good too, especially if your character had some sort of previous knowledge of the ship's specific make and model.

I would consider playing an ex soldier who was put into a cryogenic sleep after war left him with severe post-traumatic stress. He would have only been woken from this sleep a year prior to the beginning of the story.

Could be good, depending on how long he'd been asleep for and how severe his PTSD was. WOuldn't want someone who'd be suffering from too much Future Shock or who'd freeze up in a firefight but one who get's a little flaky sometimes would definitely work.

Always useful to have a rookie around, especially when you want to check whether a door's boobytrapped or not. >D

Interested, got an inkling of an idea for a pilot if that position would still be available?

Actually, thinking further on it, maybe an archivist type character?
