Ryoko watched as the man before her looked down on her from his horse. His words did not mean as much to her as he possibly believed they did. As far as she was concerned, he was only further proving her point, that he did not belong here. She may not have looked it now, but she had experienced the humiliating poverty that he was putting on a pedestal, starving for three days straight was nothing to be proud of. Even with no home, she made damn sure to never go to sleep on an empty stomach, it didn't matter if she bought it or stole it, she earned it. She got out of the slums of her world as soon as she could, under her own power. If she appeared to be an ignorant noble, then she was doing things right. She could mention this to him, but she was not here to argue petty matters, and the look in his eyes told her he would hear none of it. His eyes... While his words did little to affect her, the way he stared at her struck a nerve. He was staring right through her, as if she were refuse on the ground. She felt the urge to tear the golden orbs from his skull and stomp them into the sand. She weighed her options, finding that the consequences for doing as much felt pale in comparison to the joy it would bring her.

The sound of windows and doors opening caught her attention, civilians had noticed the conflict in the streets and poked their heads out. They reminded her of rats peeping out of holes, disgusting. She ignored them, as her focus was on someone slightly more imposing. The man on the horse was not fond of her, yet he chose to give out the information she requested. The sharp glint in Ryoko's eyes faded away, and her thoughts went to the princess of heart. If she was truly headed towards the palace then someone would have seen her already. It did not matter if he was lying, however, he had let her know that the girl was within the city. She would keep this information in mind, and plan accordingly.

The man stated that their business was done, yet he did not turn to leave. He was pushing his luck, if he was so privy to make a statement, she could cut to the chase and kill him now, while his beloved public watched. Before Ryoko could respond, Salforge spoke. Unbelievably, he gave the man encouragement. She shot a glare at the mercenary. "Really, you decided to actually open your mouth and that's what you say?" She let out a sigh, rubbing her temples with her fingers. She looked back to the man on the horse one more time. "The next time I see you, I am going to stab you, understood? So try to eat something Mr. high and hungry." She said with a smile. She patted Salforge on the back, and walked away.

Their destination was not very far away, Ryoko was to meet her informant in an abandoned shack behind a defunct home. Walking past the crumbling building she spotted the shack. "That's odd." She mumbled. As the two of them could see, the door to the shack was wide open. "I told him to leave the door shut..." She grumbled, as she entered the small structure. The cause for her suspicion quickly became apparent as the smell of blood hung in the air. "Oh, he's dead." She noted, as she discovered a man in shambled clothing face down in a pool of his own blood. Ryoko nonchalantly kicked him over. "Yup... That's him." She turned back to Salforge. "Alright, new plan of action, we find out who did this. You wouldn't happen to have any tricks that could help in the matter, would you?"

"You've been through a lot, haven't you?" Osa said, noticing how Gavin's body was shivering. She glanced at the apple Lin had left for him, and gave him an assuring smile. "Looks like you've got some good potential friends now, doesn't it? Go ahead and rest, as your unofficial physician I demand it."

Ace groaned as he heard Rika requesting he wake up. At least he had gotten a good thirty seconds of sleep. After calling Lin over, Rika began an impromptu strategy meeting. Her professionalism was showing once again, as she had quickly analysed their current predicament and formulated a plan of action. Gaining an advantage over the empire would not be easy, but as Rika had mentioned, they had something of great value on their side. It wouldn't be hard getting the people on their side, the empire did little to gain the public's confidence other than promise not to murder them all. In his experience, the only people that would refuse to help them were those too afraid of retaliation from the empire. On Hollow Bastion, both he and Shizuka had seen their fair share of men, women and children that would quake at the mere mention of the imperial forces. He couldn't blame them, many people had lost loved ones, and not all of them could handle it.

Rika was cut off as an unfamiliar man's voice came from the upper floor. Ace and Shizuka looked to the staircase in confusion, though Osa came out of the med bay upon hearing her name called. The man commented on an article of clothing he had found, Shizuka had no clue what he meant, but Ace recalled that Rika had left her jacket up there, he would let that play out as it did. The man spoke again, but apparently tripped on the stairs and started to tumble down like a screaming bag of potatoes. Ace twitched in reaction to the harsh fall, as he imagined his own body falling down each and every one of the stairs. Shizuka grimaced, but counted the number of bangs on her fingers.

"Eight, that's pretty close to my record." Shizuka whistled, as humpty dumpty himself came into view. He wasn't quite what they had expected, though his short stature and bundle of goods explained how he rolled down the stairs so easily. In spite of how brutal the fall had seemed, he got up on his own and seemed fine, Osa put away a potion bottle, as is if she figured it'd need to be used. Rika swiped her jacket back, likely none to happy that the man was using it like a scratch and sniff. Not discouraged by losing the 'incredible smelling' jacket, he introduced himself when Rika asked who he was. His name was Okal and from what they could gather, he was a peddler, a slightly peddler, but some would say those are the best kind. Rika looked back to Ace and Shizuka, somehow at a loss for words. Shizuka had plenty to say, however.

"You have a camel?" She asked enthusiastically, stepping in front of the man. "Can I really ride it? The last time I was here I only got to look at one." She said, bouncing up and down on her heels. Ace planted a hand on her head to calm her down.

"Maybe later." He said.

"You're a buzzkill." Shizuka moaned.

"Actually, there is something you could help us with." Osa chimed in. "Okal, my friends here are looking for someone, someone the empire is also after. They could also use the assistance of someone such as yourself, right?" She turned to Ace, letting him take over, though at the moment he was simply wondering if Okal had any pillows for sale.

"It's a girl from our world, her skin is pitch black, and she has yellow eyes, not easy to miss..." Ace thought for a moment, wondering if he was getting ahead of himself. "You wouldn't happen to know anyone in the palace, would you?"

A disturbance behind him had put Alem on alert, and his right hand was opened and ready to defend himself if necessary. His eyes looked behind, noting the exit blocked. The man who was silent before had chosen to act and reveal part of his arsenal, as well as offer words to him. Hoping Alem would be able to challenge them, he had held his tongue and looked back at him. Aseela had grown nervous, prompting him to place a hand at her side to calm her. His companion had settled herself down, and with her fear under control it was now a matter of what would happen next. As the man turned, Alem returned his eyes to Ryoko and awaited her action. The wall had been released behind him, but still the young man did not turn his back. He was confident, but not stupid enough to allow them an opening if he could avoid it. To his relief she had only managed to make a threat on his life, immediately following her comrade afterward. He had taken a good long look at those two, and only after he was certain they had left the area Alem looked around to the curious faces.

“Should they return and disturb you, find me.” He requested of those who had watched and listened. No response was necessary, the people had known Alem would help them if able, and so should trouble come they would call on him if necessary. Turning around with Aseela, he would return to Asahina, clothing in hand. Stepping inside to the backroom where he had left her, he would surrender the clothing. It was crude, but would do well in hiding her and, most importantly, keeping her decent until she could find clothing of her own at a later time. He knew of a few vendors who sold clothing that might be able to help her find something special, and for little cost. Leaving Asahina to change, he would stand outside of the room in question. Those two that came to these slums were still fresh in his mind.

“Two people were looking for you. One was named Ryoko – they are a part of the ‘Empire’ that has taken root here. Were you part of them once?” He asked quietly. To help Asahina, information was vital.
‘The girl is a silly one …but appears harmless enough.’ Okal quietly examined the strange party. This group being down here did mean they were trustworthy enough to know of him and what he dealt in, but something told him that perhaps he should remain cautious of them in case they were, well, terrible at keeping secrets. The camel-loving girl brought the small man to smile. It was difficult to find honest men and women these days, but at least the girl had hope for something in the future. “I’ll be more than happy to let you ride my camel, but I must warn you …he is a bit …difficult.” The warning was sound, and his camel could be a pain in the rear in certain circumstances. There was rarely a quick getaway with him, and were it not for his strong back and ability to carry his merchandise he might have decided to eat him.

Yes, really.

Looking to Osa as she spoke, Okal stroked his beard and listened well. From Osa to Ace, the honest merchant (but not really) nodded his head in a manner that suggested wisdom and great experience listening. This boy was curious, but the blonde girl, and the small Chinese girl beside her, had yet to say much of anything. They all wanted the same thing, quite obviously together on the journey ahead. The man that Osa had been tending to in the back room brought some concern, but he would not have been down here if there wasn’t some mutual dislike of the Empire.

“You are wise to enlist me to aid you – I am no friend to this ‘Empire’ and would be more than happy to see them gone. I can ask around for this pitch-black girl you are looking for, I only need a little time.” Okal made it his business to know everything and anything he could. Information was a powerful tool and only a fool would ignore its boons. Between these young people, Okal never would have guessed they would understand the meaning of it. Most of them were all about swords, explosions and other obnoxious means of enforcing their will. “As for the palace, I have a man or two inside, but signaling them is a risk I won’t take unless absolutely necessary. I will need to know what this is for, and some payment.”

“Payment?” Rika cut in, arms folded. “I thought you weren’t a friend to the Empire?”

“I am not, but risks are …risky, no?” Okal shrugged his shoulders. “You appear an intelligent woman. Surely you understand that it would be of great risk to contact my men for just anything. I would only do it if there was more to gain from it than lose.”

Rika knew he was making a good point. Encountering him like this was already an easy access to the inner circles throughout this place, risking it wouldn’t help them. “Fair enough. What’s your price?”

“Owe me. Anything I need you to do, you do it. Leave without doing so and …let’s just say you’ll end up like my last snitch.” Okal looked her in the eye, proving how serious he was. It was just then that Lin, who was being patient and silent, decided to speak out.

“What’s a snitch?”

“Hm?” Okal looked at Lin. “You know, someone who lets their tongue get a little too loose with the wrong crowd. You see, I had to see to it that a rat was ‘dealt with’ before I arrived here. He was yammering to the Empire and I need to keep control of the streets.”

Lin blinked. “Wait, rats can talk on this world?”

Okal was at a loss of words. Rika quickly cut in and cleared her throat. “Anyway …these guys are exhausted, so you and I can talk about this privately. Ace, be clear about what you want. I don’t want to owe him for nothing.”

Gavin//
Gavin gave but a simple nod gave another check to his grip. His arm did feel better, the problem would be sleeping but he'd try his best to sleep comfortablely. He soon excused himself from the room, closing the door behind him he stopped just in front of the bathroom. His head rolled slow as he stepped in and briefly prepared to make his rounds. 'Now for the hard part...' he thought.

Minutes later...

The sound of water sloshing around in a bucket. This place didn't have conventional "faucets" that he was used to, he had to be humbled by how water was recycled here. To wash laundry, and even the body, at least this is what information his mind pieced together for him. He looked into the mirror and quivered all over, his skin crawled, leaving him with goosebumps. He began to wonder if the blood was gone...he hoped it wore thin and his antibodies eliminated the threat by now. Exiting he proceeded down the hall to an empty room, a single bed that lay close the floor. A candle next to a nightstand, tattered carpets, and blinds over the window.

Sitting to the bed, the trouble thought came back and plagued his mind. The more he seemed to focus on this person in absence of company, naturally all inclinations of his business against the empire were the focal point to one person. The strength he had to acquire, to become cursed all as a burden to restore the prominence of a family name. Gavin never spoke of his family or issues they were being put through as a result of one, one that was currently enlisted in the empire. Stroking at his chin, his red eyes flickered and he released a cold sigh, casually leaning his back completely flat and positioning his arm on his chest. 'Uncomfortable yes, but it'd have to do for now.' Slowly but surely, slipping into an active state of unconsciousness, Gavin finally passed out.
//Salforge
Well for starters this was already turning out to an arduous day and the mercenary was growing ever more bothered by this string of mishaps. There was no room to doubt his intuition, no sane man would cooperate with the empire, and he was certain that the strangers here would sooner riot than assist the enemy. That was fine, the mercenary took it as a challenge, for meaning to earn his living and further his own agenda without conventional struggle wasn't challenging at all.

This informant of theirs, he'd guess correctly in thinking they'd likely be more reliable than gifted in the art of guise from strangers. It wouldn't last, based on what he said along with such conviction, his words were timeless, but the informant was priority. As they approached, Ryoko's observation was the first red flag, the mercenary grimaced already anticipating the worst-case scenario. As she kicked him over, Salforge gave a soft nod.

"Your informants tend to expire rather fast. You sure you didn't persecute him yourself?" He professed in jest.

In all seriousness he did have every intention of answering her question. "What kill him you say? Fine, it's easy enough to deduce when you scan the entire scene at once. Allow me. One-hundred and Third."

The mercenary snapped his fingers, activating passive enhancement to immovable block. He touched the ground with his bare hand, and spread what seemed like a barrier to coat the entire room. From the floor rose miniature blocks, rectilinear shapes that prospered left and right of Ryoko and Salforge. His skills were linked, his right eye became glass-like, as something was beginning to remove itself in the form of a block and it only proceeded to grow larger in size. Becoming a square screen it was a projection of the current scene.

"How much are you willing to wager we've already encountered our killer Ryoko?" Salforge pointed at the screen. From what I can tell, this was done fresh, about an hour ago. HIs wounds depict that he was sliced by a scimitar, one clean stroke of the throat cutting several arteries in the process. That wasn't the killing blow, it appears he was impaled in his sternum which was split open. Either you're dealing with a surgeon or an assassin familiar with precision cutting."

Salforge stood up and dismissed his screen and blocks the wayside. "I've taken enough mental pictures. If you know the informant's name, let's ask around from there. I'm sure you're highly skilled at lying Ryoko, telling who is shouldn't be an issue."

~~~~~~Agrabah / Royal Street (Main path leading from Palace to City Gates)~~~~~~
The streets of Agrabah grew dense with crowds the further Nomis and his group headed towards the grand palace. The large cart being pulled by some of the groups members, creaked and groaned as it was pulled along the sand dusted streets of the city, The brief sounds of sloshing liquid from beneath the covering canvas, along with the whisper like hisses, managed to turn a few heads of the inhabitants as the group travelled by them. So many people seemed to fill such a small and confined city to breaking point, and yet the citizens seemed to be well used to the situation they grew up surrounded by.
Soon the great palace gates came into sight as the travelling group of Nomis passed through one of the streets many arches, and though it was still some distance before they could even physically touch it, the sheer size of the gates went hand in hand with the majestic sight of the palace looming over not just it, but the city and desert also.
"Uncle Nomis...?" The voice came from behind the walking man, his stance immediately freezing in place as he stopped in his tracks, the rest of the group moving onwards still, although slowly.
As Caleb appeared from the shadows of one of the market stalls, his uncle continued to keep his back the only thing facing his nephew, even as he began to ask the important question.
"Did you find out what we needed to know?"
"Yes…they’re in a place called the Basilisk Inn. It seems pretty ordinary, just like the rest of the buildings here. It would have taken too long if we just searched any old place." Caleb said as he stood facing his uncle’s back, though his eyes seemed to keep looking at anything but the silent unmoving posture of Nomis himself.
"And the three trackers? I trust you’ve already dealt with them before you went looking yourself?
Their bodies are being taken back to Arundhati right now, Uncle…
Very good, Caleb. Very good indeed. Now all that’s left is to reacquire the creature, and then we can return to my work." Finally starting to move once more, Nomis turned towards one of the masked figures that had arrived in Agrabah aboard the massive ship.
"Finish the preparations at the palace gates and begin immediately. I will return to Arundhati once finished myself and examine the data you send back from the experiment. Come along now, Caleb, show me this place."
~~~~~~Agrabah / Palace Gates~~~~~~

The sound of the bustling crowds passed the large palace gates could still be heard, even as the small group of robed figures were busy setting up their equipment. The more portable machines seemed to link together, creating the miniature monitors and tall metal coils, now surrounding the large cloth covered item that had been delivered via the cart.

As the mask wearing figure removed the small darkness filled glass from the confines of his robe, the cloth was busily being pulled free by one of the other figures, revealing the large glass cylindrical chamber full of the murkiest deep dark green water imaginable.

So still was the water, that at first glance one would believe it to be some kind of solid substance, but at the first brief sparks of electricity being caused by the metal coils surrounding the chamber, the once stillness of the water gave way to a sudden and very violent thrashing.

More and more of the generating lightning arched from the machine driven coils, immediately latching and linking onto the purposefully placed devices lining the glass chamber in the centre. Stepping directly up to the chamber itself, the masked figure uncorked the vial given to him by his Lord Clacverk before quickly pouring the concentrated darkness from Hollow Bastion’s own Factory core straight into the water. For a few seconds, the darkness added quickly dominated the green liquid before it soon faded and disappeared deeper into the depths of the water, returning everything to the original dark green.

Suddenly erupting from the opened hatch on the top of the cylinder, the creature that emerged was horrific to look at. The amount of tendrils hanging from not just its long, leech-like drooping face but in patches and growths along its body, was just one of the things that made the creature disturbing. The biggest thing being the actual sight of its form twisting and splitting as it seemed to evolve to its new environment.

"Lord Clacverk wants you to search out the creature with that scent. You can feed on it if it puts up resistance, but Lord Clacverk wants it returned to him alive, do you understand?" Said the masked figure as he began to step away from the chamber and the large abomination that hung over its side and stared at him.

The large purple eye that suddenly sprouted along the creature's blank face glanced around at everything surrounding it, its mind though simple, was more than intelligent enough to understand the task it was given. The darkness it fed on was strong, a familiar taste it hadn’t gotten the chance to have in a very long time. Just the small sample was more than enough to sway the monster to do what was being asked. Sliding out of the chamber and simply falling to the ground like a fish on dry land, the creature’s tapered lower half soon started to split and twist into an entirely new form.

The legs it now had were very distorted, as if the bones they were made of were clearly not natural, threatening to break through the skin at a sudden twist. And yet, the creature seemed content with the change to its body, its hulking form moving on all fours as its first course of action was to immediately charge towards the gates. Leading back out to the bustling streets of Agrabah, the sound of panicked screams from the crowds didn't seem to cause the massive parasite to take any particular notice, its focus solely on one thing, where the delicious source of darkness was hiding.

A minute after the kind stranger had left to find her clothing, Asahina found herself sitting in the corner of the room once more. She wished she could say finding refuge in corners was only something she did now because of her current predicament, but that wasn't true. She had picked up the habit of sitting in corners from grade school. While other children found it easy to socialize and gain friends, she could never find the courage to face people. The fear of rejection and ridicule was a strong deterrent, not something she believed she could handle. It was the day she was assigned a seat in the corner of a class that she noticed the benefits. There were no eyes on her, and the enclosure of the walls was oddly comforting. Out of sight, out of mind, to anyone else it may seem desolate, but it eased her heart.

She looked down at the cloak the man had left her, the last time someone had been kind to her was so long ago, it was a nice feeling. She drew in a content breath, and her nose flared. The cloak carried a scent with it, one that was unfamiliar to her, yet nostalgic. It made her think of her master in the academy, one of the few people she could say she was close to. Her lips curved into a smile as if by reflex. "That's... right." She whispered to herself. It had been so long, that she had forgotten what it was like to have someone that cared for you.

A few minutes later, just as he had promised, the young man returned with clothing for her. She let out a small gasp, not sure why she was surprised, perhaps she feared that he would not return. She got to her feet and took the clothes from him. "Grateful... Very grateful." she said, bowing her head to avoid eye contact with him. She did not want him to see her face so closely, she must look frighting in her current state. She tried to hurry and put on the clothes, however, her claws made it difficult to put anything on without tearing it. While she struggled with a rather large shirt for her size, the man spoke. A shiver went down her spine, she knew it was silly, but a man was talking to her while she was changing. She really was an idiot. Curbing her embarrassment she tried to give him an answer.

"Not. Quite." She said. It was true that she had been helping the Empire, but it was not her choice to do so. "Captured. Forced into machine. Power... Factory." She gritted her teeth, the very name of that place disturbed her. "Terrible pain. In machine for... Long time. Awake." She finally slipped on the shirt, and flipped her swirling hair out of it. "Sorry..." She said, not sure of why. Apologizing when she did not know what else to say was another habit of her. She finished dressing in silence, and returned his cloak to him. "Ryoko.... Only seen once." Asahina's clenched her fists. "She captured me." She did not remember much about the woman, the only thing that stood out in her mind was her piercing blue eyes that would have likely haunted her in her dreams had she been able to sleep.

She relaxed her hands, and looked in the man's direction. Her hair moved with a mind of it's own, covering her face. "I-... What is. Your name?"

Shizuka frowned upon hearing what Okal had recently been up to. She was never good at gauging what a person was capable of at a glance. Looking at Okal, the last thing she expected to hear was a nonchalant admittance that he had caused the death of someone just today. She disliked this type of business, but hated even more so the fact that she knew it was a necessity. She wished there were other ways to get results, but she had seen what became of those with a meek heart, that naivety had been torn from her long ago.

She had to stifle a giggle in the palm of her hand at Lin's comment. She thought she was joking for a moment, but thinking about it, it made sense that she didn't know the terms he was laying out in front of her. Shizuka approached Lin, and whispered in her ear. "A rat is just someone that tells secrets that they aren't supposed to." She leaned away from her ear, and wriggled her nose. "You have got to tell me what you use to wash your hair, by the way."

Meanwhile, Ace contemplated his options. "Two on the inside, huh?" He could use the shifty merchants's help, but he wasn't sure about owing him for it. He didn't know this man, and by his own word he admitted to having no qualms with having them killed if they failed to fulfill their end of the bargain.

"We'll do it, we always repay our debts!" Shizuka chimed in, causing Ace to seriously regret how long he took to speak around her.

"Dammit Shizuka, I'm too tired for this." Ace said. "We don't even know what he'll ask for."

"It's fine, we need his help if we're going to find that girl. We let her out-"

"You, forced her out. I know you feel responsible, but we can't just make rash decisions." Ace said. Shizuka huffed and turned her gaze from him.

"You're a jerk when you're tired."

"Uh huh." Ace turned back to Okal, and looked down at the man eye to eye. "We need to know what the empire knows, I'm sure you've heard of the Factories they build on each world they take over? We destroyed the one on our world, and I imagine they aren't too happy about that. They'll be on guard, but even still it'll help us to know where the Factory is on this world, as well as the location of that girl. We also need to know where their patrols will be if we want to get around. If you can help us with this, then I will personally see to it that you are repaid." Ace looked to Rika and nodded, trusting her to take care of things while he rested. Before he went to bed however, he walked over to Lin.

Lin was a brave and strong girl, but he was afraid of what would come of her getting mixed into this. She likely never had to deal with cutthroats and espionage like this. She would see blood, people killed. She would learn more than just a few unfamiliar terms if she stayed with them, this line of work hardened people, she may one day find herself to be the one taking care of 'rats.' "Lin..." He grumbled, not sure of what to say. He was worried about her, he didn't want her innocence to be taken away from her like it had his and Shizuka's, but he also knew how proud she was. "Stay strong, and don't ever change, alright? Things are gonna get rough."

"Ha, ha..." Ryoko rolled her eyes at Salforge's joke. "As if my work would be this Uncultured." She said, likely the only person on the planet that knew what that was supposed to mean. She watched as Salforge used his ability to spread a barrier around the room, it's many uses still surprised her, she wondered just what he couldn't do with his blocks. He gave her a summary of what possibly happened, and from what she could see she had no reason to doubt it. She was familiar with the kind of wounds a blade could inflict, and judging by the lack of any sign of a struggle, she agreed that it was the work of a skilled assassin.

Salforge seemed to believe that they had already met the man's killer, she wasn't so sure. "A scimitar is a popular weapon of choice here, we'll need more than that to narrow this down." Ryoko stepped out of the shack and stretched her arms, she could really use hot bath right about now. "The man was a nobody, no one knew him, it's why I figured he would make a decent source. But it seems as though we're dealing with fairly competent individuals. We can't let them continue to undermine us like this, otherwise we will be looking at a repeat of what happened in Hollow Bastion."

She walked back to the streets, leaving the body behind to the buzzards. "Perhaps we should lay a trap for them, I have a feeling our search of the city won't amount to much, as they have the lay of the land and an advantage in the city. We'll need to be careful about this, something too extravagant will give us away, perhaps..." Ryoko's voice trailed off as she heard panicked screaming a block away. A small crowd of people suddenly stormed from a corner of the street, frantically entering building to escape from something. For a moment, she thought the Princess of Heart had shown herself. However, what came around the corner instead was a black monstrosity. Ryoko watched with a deadpan expression as the grotesque creature crawled by on buckling legs.

"You know what Sal, I'm going to go to an inn, and take the day off, fuck this."

Relieved that Asahina had not been affiliated with the Empire by choice, Alem listened to her short explanation of who they were to her and why she was being hunted. Taken by force, placed into some kind of construct for the Empire’s purposes, and unable to halt the pain that would follow. Alem’s jaw tensed but he remained silent as she dressed herself. He had to consider his options now that he knew the Empire was going to hunt her down here. He could take her out of Agrabah, but the Empire would just force their will on everyone here while he was absent. Abandoning those that will come under fire was not going to happen. Thinking about who might risk themselves to help keep her safe, the man had ultimately decided that involving others was not going to be ideal until he had no other options left. He had a home to the far west of Agrabah, located in a neighborhood far more pleasant than this place. It would do.

Once she had emerged, Alem took his cloak in hand and had gone back through where she had changed, retrieving his dagger and securing it behind his waist. He hesitated when it came to donning the cloak once again, and on further examination of Asahina he deemed it silly to let her go out so carefree. Her comfort in clothing was important, but as long as she appeared like that it was better to keep her hidden.

“Here,” Alem returned the cloak to her. “Until your appearance changes, we cannot let anyone see you as you are. Use the hood, keep your features as hidden as possible underneath.” He instructed. Guiding her outside to Aseela, Alem gestured towards her, implying that she would be riding her. At first Aseela was nervous, but with Alem’s guidance and surprising strength for a slim young man, Asahina was atop Aseela.

Alem had begun to guide Aseela himself to the far west of the city, staying at the farthest perimeter possible to avoid imperial patrols or suspicious eyes. The question she had raised him had gone unanswered. Already going through great lengths to assist her, his name seemed like such a small potential consequence. What was a name going to give her, other than the proper means of expressing gratitude?

“Alem.” He replied plainly, going no further than this. Maintaining his silence for a short minute, he stopped in his tracks and looked towards the north, facing the palace in the distance. He was beginning to hear shouts of panic drawing closer, and the only reason he had not accelerated towards the noise was because he had noticed the sounds drawing towards them. Had that woman, Ryoko, made her move this soon? “…Can you fight?” Alem asked her, stepping between Aseela and whatever was drawing close. This street was empty, so he could be thankful that no one would be caught up in this should a fight break out.

Lin had learned something new today. Her cheeks blushed slightly at Shizuka’s explanation, feeling a little silly for not understanding the lingo properly. Rats were filthy creatures, and people who told others of things they shouldn’t have were filthy themselves? The more she thought about it, the more it made sense, and she had grinned widely at this new wealth of knowledge she could apply in the future. Learning the lingo of other worlds was essential in becoming the best she could be. Turning her wide smile to Shizuka, the Chinese girl giggled quietly and nodded her head in agreement. “I don’t do much, it’s a little something they make back home. It only felt right I applied it to my hair before I left, that way I can remember it through the scent!” she explained. Lin wanted to be a brave and legendary hero, but she wanted to remember the place she was born and the amazing people she was leaving behind to do everything. With that settled, she allowed the others to finish processing the terms and conditions of this new partnership.

“Considering what I am offering you without demanding you pay me in advance, I’d say I am being more than fair. You are being a little ungrateful, no?” Okal told Ace, his friendly demeanor waning at Ace’s mistrust. He couldn’t be blamed for being uncertain about this, but at the very same time Okal was risking the stability of his entire operation for the sake of a bunch of kids. Who had the real right to be concerned here? Huffing, his friendly demeanor had returned once Shizuka had agreed to the terms and he nodded in approval. With the ladies on his side, it was only natural that the boy would come over as well, and so he did. Okal wrinkled his nose and listened with the patience of a seasoned monk, nodding his head and gently stroking his bearded chin.

“Factory? I’m afraid you’ve lost me on that, however if there is something they’re hiding I can guarantee you I’ll be able to find it in a short amount of time. The girl I will begin with immediately, but I know how to coax some information out of some citizens with enough coin. They trust me, I am an honest merchant after all …but not really.” Okal muttered, eyes towards the ceiling. “As for patrols, I’ll return with detailed routes and formations written out. However!” Okal focused on Ace, eyes narrowed. “For this to work, I suggest you learn how to talk to someone you need favors from. Caution is reasonable, but you’ll owe me far more than I’ll owe you when this is over, this I promise you. Now!” Okal extended his arms and looked to Rika. “Shall we?”

“Yeah. Get some rest everyone, you’ll need it.” Rika nodded to the group and winked at Lin before heading upstairs, Okal following closely behind.

“Are you sniffing me?”Rika muttered, hearing the sharp inhales of the merchant.

“What? No, of course not!” Okal replied a little too enthusiastically, following after her and taking care to sniff a little quieter. The women from other worlds, they smelled so deliciously exotic!

With Rika handling the business with Okal, Lin allowed her body to relax and her attention to lower. The small nap she had with Shizuka had given her enough energy to get through the operation and take care of Gavin, and with the latter safe Lin believed she could begin to get settled and find a bed. Before her attention could be put into getting some sleep, Ace had approached her just as she examined a couple of the beds, trying to decide on whether the top or bottom had suited her. Marveling at this style of bed would have to wait, as nothing like this was back in China. In spite of her fatigue, Lin managed to smile at Ace. “Yes?” Ace had paused, but asked her to never change and to remain as she is. Her ability to understand human emotions was not taxed at all, as Ace was showing his concern for her so plainly that a blind man could see it. He was afraid.

“Things have already gotten ‘rough’, Ace. The important thing is that we don’t let it break us, because a lot of people are counting on us to save the world …err, ‘worlds’.” Lin rubbed the back of her neck shyly, finding it funny that she of all people was trying to motivate someone who was meant to lead them. “If I can ask one thing from you, I’d like it if you don’t forget about people who need us. Your feelings mean a lot to me, and I hope mine mean a lot to you. Gavin was hurt, and you sort of forgot about that. I can’t be comfortable knowing someone’s in pain, it’s not in my nature.”

Lin frowned, hoping that Ace would understand where she was coming from.

~-~

Rika and Okal had left the tavern, stepping outside to find a particularly patient camel that carried a small range of dishes and pots. This was, Rika figured, the camel in question before. Before talks could get underway, Rika held up a hand and had begun to listen hard. Screams, panic and scattering feet had gotten her attention. Whatever it was, it was leaving the main street and heading somewhere to the south.

“Get that information, I’ll be right back.” Rika muttered to Okal before racing off in the direction of that particularly noisy creature.

Okal looked to his camel, and his camel looked back to him.

“Good going, your smell frightened her!” Okal threw up his hands in frustration.

//Salforge
The mercenary simply scratched his head, he'd wager this would get solved fairly quickly with Ryoko's help. His ears proceeded to twitch and ring at the sound of civilians sporadically shuffling through the main street. From the obscure ally, Ryoko and Salforge both directed their attention. What appeared, seemed almost inhumane...inhuman? It was inhuman, fitting the description of one of the lesser antagonizing forces, heartless.

Ryoko expressed her grievances and rather vulgarly. Salforge gave what appeared to be a monotonous smile (think Sai from Naruto) at this rare sight. Raising his hand he simply asked one thing of Ryoko, "Just Relax General, this will only take a second. You'll actually get to see me stretch my legs, i've gotten rather impatient with being here altogether."

Salforge stopped talking, and starting walking towards the foe that slithered a painting of black. He drew a breath and held it, snapping his finger summoning several of his blocks, propogating them at perfect angles. He clenched his fist and thought of a name, 'Ciel. You showed med this.'

"Decay." He uttered, and then his blocks did something interesting. The flickered and shimmered as if they were reflective surfaces, light purged from Salforge's left palm and bounced in between his architecture of blocks. It traveled like a web of threads, and weaved a trail of light aimed directly for the black mesh of a monster. Punching a hole straight through what the mercenary had to image was it's "arm appendage" and it disintegrated on contact, as the rest of the limb broke off and swam in a mass of black.

"Ryoko don't leave yet, is this thing one of ours?"

~~~~~~Agrabah / Royal Street (Main Street leaving from the Palace)~~~~~~
The panic seemed to rush through the crowds faster as more people fled from the large shambling creature of darkness. Even those who couldn’t possibly see the beast itself through the mass of people quickly picked up on the fear and promptly ran or hid from the monstrosity, its singular gaze rolling around catching sight of anything in front of it, while its long tendril hanging face slithered and disturbed the dust covered ground, like any other animal trying to catch a scent.
The creature’s leather-like body stretched and shook with every one of the beast’s long strides of its distorted appendages. Though almost bone like in appearance, the flimsy and somewhat brittle look the body gave was quite clearly misleading, the slow change the rest of the body was going through only now seemingly beginning to settle on the ribcage and spine styled exoskeleton on its upper torso.
Though it was a single word before what happened next, just as it had done with the screams that came from all around it, the abomination continued its search. That was until the searing pain through one of its frontal arms caused it to release a hideously loud shriek and hiss. Propping up on its back legs, the beast clutched the now stump of its arm, the black goo splattering onto the ground by the still wiggling limb not enough to actually cover the appendage, even with such a bad wound, but there was enough to stain the once lightly brown sand a shine-less black.
Swinging its leech-like face towards the alley, and the two figures standing within, the once single eye was soon joined by many smaller ones, the things appearing along the creature’s smooth skin like growths, and all glaring solely on the one who had hurt them. Releasing its grip on the stump, which had miraculously stopped bleeding, the beast’s remaining whole arm quickly reached down to grab the remains that still laid on the ground. The sight of it not only bringing the lifeless piece up to the stump but of it somehow reattaching it, was with a disgusting sight, the crunch and pop of it signalling its reattachment as the same dark liquid from its wound bubbled and seemed to congeal and harden where the pieces now joined.
It was very clear the creature was definitely nothing like any Heartless. It was something much older and clearly much more dangerous.
Able to keep sight on Ryoko and Salforge with its dozen of eyes, the beast let out another one of its high-pitched shrieks, the sheer sound of it enough to cause some of the reflecting cubes close by it to shake and ripple. Though it was the sudden look in the creature’s main large eye that seemed to be the reason why it didn’t leap towards Ryoko and Salforge, and instead cause its spine to creak and groan as it immediately went flying down Main Street, the now slightly mismatched arms sweeping at anything in its way.
The panic that quickly seemed to spread further through Main Street had finally appeared to get the guards to begin closing the city’s large gates, trying their best to contain the fearing crowds within these sections of the market only. Having been slowly making their way towards the palace itself, it was the reason why the sections had fewer and fewer citizens within them, yet each one was passed through exactly the same way by the creature. The once large gates were torn apart as the beast ran by, its arms easily capable of ripping through the material in a matter of seconds, even if it meant some of the jagged edges sliced into its body as it passed through, and yet always the scars were quickly covered by the congealing and bubbling liquid by the time it reached the opposite gateway exit.
It was the iron layered gates, having been lowered in panic at the sound of the increasingly growing sound of wood caving in, which proved to be a little hard for the abomination. After a few anger filled whacks from its arms and tendril flailing face, the creature quickly began to climb the iron wall, its weight compared to its brittle looking body clearly enough to bend the metal as it slowly reached the top, its gaze able to peer through the iron holes and over the wooden gates, to see the figure of a man, one who looked to be from this world, and the darkness reeking being that was behind it. It was the sight of this that once again caused the beast’s eyes to flare in both excitement and impatience.
Like a caged and wild animal, the creature shrieked as it shook and clawed and very soon even succeeding in beginning to tear apart the iron contraption that kept it from its source of hunger. Scraps of crushed metal were flung behind the hanging beast as it pulled the chunks free with pure strength with every grasp of its clawed hands. Soon, there was enough of an opening to allow the creature into the gap between the two iron gates, and it was with this new foothold that its whole strength was used, not in opening another hole, but judging from the loud rattles of the gate and cracking wall edges with each slam of its arms, to bring down the whole gate itself.
The empathetic words and melancholy frown of Lin spoke leagues of her character. Ace was worried about her of course, yet here she was telling him to worry about other people before her. If seeing someone with a broken arm was uncomfortable for her, then he knew he had just cause to be wary. He didn't want to see what the death of a comrade could do to her. A wry smile spread across his face, Lin's innocence was one of things he admired in her, but he just knew it would cause her harm some day.
"You're right, I did forget about Gavin's broken arm..." He said, his eyes averting hers. "Compared to the worst I've seen it's nothing, I suppose I stopped worrying about the little things after..." Ace let out a low grunt as he felt a pain in his chest, his face tightened for a moment, but he refrained from grasping his chest and worrying Lin. "Anyway, I'll keep that in mind, so don't worry about it. After all, I don't want to become as heartless as the people we're fighting, right?" Ace patted Lin on her shoulder, and walked back to bed, on his way, he passed Shizuka, who was holding two cups of water. She took one look at him, and could see that he was bothered by something, yet she didn't say anything, for as long as she'd known him she knew when he wanted to be left alone.
"Lin?" Shizuka held out a cup of water to her friend. The water wasn't ice cold, but it would be more than refreshing on this hot world. "I've been wondering, how are things back on your world again? Everyone is alright, aren't they?"
_____
Ryoko let out an exasperated sigh, and titled her head as if her neck had gotten tired of holding it up. "Fine, Sal..." She muttered, wondering how common it was for mercenaries to show such initiative for no extra pay. She crossed her arms in a lackadaisical fashion, and watched as Salforge walked towards the heartless abomination. She heard him utter something, and his blocks began to move in a way she had never seen before. Flat mirrors and piercing lights, he created what amounted to a lethal lightshow. One of the monster's limbs was perforated, and feel to the ground. This didn't seem to bother the creature much, as it continued on it's path, ignoring them. Curious.
Salforge inquired as to the culprit behind this, she had an educated guess. She unfolded her arms, and began to walk after the heartless. "This has Nomis's rusty stench all over it, he's always tinkering with things that man..." She looked back to Salforge with a sinister gleam in her eyes. "That thing is searching for something, how about we find out what that something is?"
_____
"Eh?... Okay." Asahina took the cloak back, and tried to put it back on as quickly as she could. She hadn't thought of hiding her tendril like hair. She looked like a monster now, but she still wasn't fully conscious of it. She flipped the hood over her head, and followed the man as he led her outside. She tried to keep her eyes down, but couldn't help but look up when she noticed the horse in front of her. Large animals tended to make her nervous, but considering her current condition she felt she was in no position to act timid.
The horse clearly wasn't of the same mind, it was disturbed by her presence, and had to be calmed by it's owner. She didn't blame it, she must have reeked of darkness, and animals tended to know when to stay away from danger. She was helped onto the horse, an awkward affair considering she had to be careful where she placed her claws, though not quite as awkward as her realizing that she'd need to hold onto this man to keep her balance. The ride was silent, which left her to her thoughts. After telling him what had what had become of her, and asking his name, he hadn't said much back to her. She wasn't sure if he simply wasn't interested, or felt it would be a bother to respond.
After a few minutes he spoke, almost surprising her. "Alem?" She repeated what she heard, only realizing afterwards that he was telling her his name. "I-I see." She responded, lowering her head. It didn't sound like he had wanted to tell her his name, he likely wanted to keep this all impersonal. She didn't know why he was helping her, but as far as she knew she was a burden on him, and needed to get out of his hands as soon as possible.
She then heard something in the distance, it was faint but identifiable. A moment later Alem stopped the horse as he noticed the noise as well. He asked her if she could fight. She honestly wasn't sure. Her body was capable of causing damage, that much she knew to be true, controlling herself was the issue. If she wasn't careful, she feared she could kill someone. "I... Yes." She muttered.
There was a loud crash as a gate fell, and the perpetrator made it's presence known. Asahina felt it before she saw it. The creature was made of darkness, darkness that smelled like holy ambrosia to her. Her teeth grinded together, and she let out a subtle growl. She jumped from the horse, and snapped her head in the direction of the grotesque creature. It felt as if primal instincts had taken over her body, it felt dangerous, but she did not have the will to stop it. "It's. Coming. Should I reveal... or will you kill it?" She spoke to Alem in broken grammar.
---------------------------------------------- **~~~~~~Agrabah / Royal Street (Main Street leaving from the Palace)~~~~~~** The cracks lining the edges of the gateway grew wider and deeper with every new ring of the battering gate sounded throughout the street, the fierce creature responsible for it just barely staying contained behind the metal gate itself. The loud, ferocious screeches coming from the abomination seemed to flair wildly between its wild slamming of the gate, some deep anger filled growls escaping from it somehow when it would momentarily stop to clutch the iron bars tightly, its dozen of eyes still glaring at the sole two figures who stood within the street ahead of it. It was the accompaniment of the solid yellow eyes shining in the darkness that started what happened next. Dripping onto the ground from every tiny wound that was inflicted upon its body, the creature's dark blood seemed to give form to Heartless, in the smallest of cases little Shadows, while the black liquid that covered the metal frame from which the beast forced itself through, the appearance of the larger and more feral NeoShadows were a more growing concern than their smaller brethren. As the Heartless slipped through the gates gaps and proceeded to cling to the sandstone walls of the archway, the creature still continued its assault upon the metal gate, the wild scrambling claws of the NeoShadows just barely chipping away at the cracks within the stone, yet it was enough for the monstrously sized beast to finally bring the whole thing down. Falling free from the archway, along with some unfortunate chunks of stone that still clung to it, the massive hunk of metal came crashing to the ground, abomination and all with it. Rolling partially as it landed, the creature let out a roar of pain just like before, the sight of what could be considered its foot appearing to be trapped beneath the metal frame, due to the stiff formation of its dog-like hind leg. Beginning to tug with no apparent concern of harming itself, except for the brief moments of pain filled howls, the creature made no gain in freeing itself or even reaching Asahina and Alem. The frenzied scrambling from its massive hands dug into the tough ground, its fingers carving little trenches as it continued to try and make any sort of movement towards the two in front of it. And though the sight of Asahina stepping out from behind Alem, along with the wordless growl emanating from the darkness filled woman put all the now descending Heartless into a rather confusing but calming feeling, for the abomination it was more like a challenge between two primal beasts. The crack of its leg as it snapped free was immediately accompanied by the horrible sound of it popping back into place, the creature roaring as it stampeded towards them like an unstoppable elephant, its massive fists cracking the ground with every one of its wild stomps and its large main eye focused solely on Asahina. The NeoShadows that sprouted from the creature's blood seemed to get past their confusing, the group which had formed around the gate with the beast soon disappearing into the shadows of the streets buildings before wildly charging out some place behind Alem, their sharp claws flailing through the air like razors.
This felt like it would be a major hassle, when Ryoko identified the culprit, though not their culprit Salforge's hand smacked into his face. Yes, a facepalm and it was pretty loud to boot, he released a sigh and began to compare notes and agendas when it came to Clacverk vs. himself. He almost felt dedicated by comparison to handling his obligations like a responsible adult versus how mad scientists handle their experiments. Salforge wasn't entirely sure how to comply with Ryoko's request. Certainly he was up to give chase, but if this was a creature of Nomis design, then it would make more sense to approach Nomis, or to split up from there. That would be a pain, but because he was the hired help, he knew how that scenario he pitched in his head and simply agreed. "Fair enough. We'll separate from here, you should find consult with Nomis about both the creature and our dead informant. Perhaps he can offer an explanation for at least the former." Salforge released a sigh and picked his heavy feet into a light dash after the greater sized leviathan of darkness. Even as the Mercenary trucked along the street, his reflective body shimmered, and soon to those around him, he simply vanished. Utilizing his 103rd, the shells that coated his skin made him virtually invisible against direct exposure to sunlight. Moving under the cloak of his elusive technique, he treaded on the heels of the monster, more than sure he'd discover something of interest. It persisted towards a gateway, in eager attempts to bring down the house it seemed. He slowed it down to a simple stroll and walked unnoticed between the leg that was unraveling. The Mercenary proceeded to climb the gate and reach in between grasps. The Neoshadow's sprawled through the steel as black meshes, before reforming, and they seemed to have a destination of their own in mind. With care to the much larger abominations movements, Salforge managed to just slip by, and climb over the wall it was still barred against. His invested cloaked state still in effect, he tread cautiously behind the menacing neoshadow heartless. Looking over his shoulder the beast began to deform, almost as if it were committing an act of self-liquification. As if vanished, this startled the mercenary where he stood in the midst of a small heard of neoshadow trudging past him as he stood perfectly still. 'General Clacverk better have reason for this unusual bi-product of his lab-work funds.' His eyes widened, a bit, the back of a horse with a familiar. From there, Salforge called judgement, a woman that seemed almost completely unnatural in her behavior. The male was identified as the rather impertinent stranger from before, to think this would be the second time he'd see him in a single day. His cloak dissipated and he became as transparent as an apple. His arms folded, a barrier forged to repel the claws from the savage heartless. Salforge raised his hand, he didn't know if Clacverk's beast would respond to him, but there was no "breaking" his immovable block with mere physical power alone. "Stranger. This is our second encounter, I'm about as befuddled as you are, if my hunch is correct were you the one that slew that poor soul?"
Ace admitted to a fault he may not have been aware of prior to this moment. With Lin he didn’t have to be a leader, she could be a friend he can confide in for advice or just an honest opinion. As the Empire continued to hold the worlds in an iron grasp, the young girl hoped that he would never forget to keep her in his heart and mind. Friends weren’t difficult for Lin to come by, but Ace’s role as a leader figure in this fight may have unfortunate results on his mentality. The pressure of keeping them all safe and making the best use of their abilities seemed like a hard job, and it was one Lin didn’t feel eager to try for herself. Dismissal of the wounded arm because his life had brought him greater scenes of horrors did not change anything for Lin. Ace was worn and needed time, and Lin would say no more as he turned and walked back to bed. For a friend there was saying the right thing, and saying the wrong thing too. There was hope that in her words Ace would find that she was not out to criticize him as a human being, but that she only cared about his heart. The Ace she met in China was a caring boy, and she’d fight to make sure that within himself he kept his good nature and smile. Shizuka had passed by him and come to join her, carrying two brown cups of what Lin assumed to be water. Taking one in hand, Lin took a drink and did not mind its warmth in the slightest. The heat she could endure, but as remarkable as Lin was when it came to handling extreme temperatures she was still as human as anyone else in this room. The refreshing cup of water had emptied in moments, leaving Lin satisfied. A smile had shown itself, the gratitude to Shizuka plain on her face. Bowing her head in thanks to her friend, Lin raised her head back up and had begun to consider her home. It had been quite some time since Shizuka and Ace had been to her home; changes were few, the regime of the Empire was still constrictive but the rebellion was biding its time as best as they could. Restricting her people’s freedom hurt her, and a hand had went to grip her chest tightly as if pain had struck her. Shizuka and Ace could have seen it in her eyes – she missed China, so much that it hurt her. **“It’s …good. Mulan, Shang, Chien-Po, Ling, Yao …they told me to say hello to you and Ace, and to kick a lot of butt while we fought.” **Lin’s lip quivered, but she continued on. **“It’s hard to endure the foreign grip on our home, but as of right now we cannot take reckless risks. A strategy is forming to help free our people with the remnants of the Imperial Army that did not surrender once the Emperor was …”** Lin recalled the horror of his sudden execution and did not want to remember the panic that ensued. Invaders from an outside world who had overwhelmed any opposition the Chinese people had put up, any skirmishes were settled quickly without much favor in the corner of those native to the world. Notable figures who were loyal to the Emperor had to go into hiding, the people she had named were very much willing to fight, but there was one person who had convinced them to bide their time for the good of the people they cared about. **“Han, he’s well.”** Lin’s focus moved to her dear brother, the man who had looked out for her all her life. Shizuka would remember him well enough, and the reason for that brought a smile to her lips. She was beginning to recall better memories now.** “I think he’d want to see you again Shizuka, and Ace too. He still refuses to fight unless he is forced. His conviction will not falter, unless …”** Lin knew what it would take to force Han to take action. He was a good man and someone she could look up to; he loved his people, and he loved her more than anything, yet still he refused to pick up a sword and join in this fight. She couldn’t understand his reasons but knew that her brother was the smartest and bravest man she had ever met – if she brought Shizuka and Ace back home, perhaps he’d fight once he heard what was happening in the outside world. **“Remember that time when I brought up you and I becoming sisters …if you got married with my brother?”** Lin’s eyes sparked with childish joy, her smile was brimming with confidence. The nights they had spent together in China were ones she held dearly in her heart, and she’d never forget how fun it was to tease Shizuka about her crush. **“I was immature back then, and I kind of still am. Regardless, I hope that he’ll see …just how special you are, Shizuka. It’s because of him, you, and Ace that I could continue trying to get stronger. I want to help protect good people, and fight beside my friends for what’s right. When we get back to China, I’m going to tell him how wonderful you are, and maybe finally he’ll let someone in. I want it to be you, Shizuka. He likes you, so I’m sure with enough time he’ll be able to talk to you about things he won’t with me!” ** Lin figured she was just being a kid, but she was a kid who was soon to be a great warrior. Her eyes were moistened with the fond possibilities of the future, and it was a future she hoped she could share with Shizuka and Ace. ~-~ The twitches of Asahina and the grumbles within her throat had not gone unnoticed. Alem could determine quickly that that beast was after something. The Empire had been too tight-knit with the dealings in Agrabah, and never before had something like this run rampant in the streets. As it struggled to bring itself forward, Alem’s eyes wandered to Asahina, fearing for her safety as well as fearing what she might do. She had claws that she found grotesque, yet could probably shred flesh with ease as long as her aggression was properly guided. She was discomforted by her own body, and some kind of impulse was blooming as a result of this monsters presence. If she wasn’t here he would have taken Aseela and tried to guide it out of the city to avoid damage, but a beast and a beast, and it appeared as stupid as it was hideous. Its desire to race towards Asahina would be its undoing. **“It’s after you, hiding will no longer do any good. I could best it in one play, but there is no sense holding you back. It will have the attention of the entire population; should we end this quickly, I may still have time to hide you away, but that window is looking smaller by the second.”** Alem flexed his right hand idly by his side. Sand below them had begun to be attracted to it before revolving around it. At the palm of his hand a hilt had begun to form, followed by an entire blade; his khopesh had been called, the sands Alem had beckoned also encouraged its presence. The summoning was unnatural, but so was whatever desired Asahina so badly. **“We’ll devote ten seconds onto this skirmish, and if we cannot end it quickly enough we will be overwhelmed. Allow me the first move against that beast, it’s no match for us. When I lower my hand, make your move.”** Alem had stepped forward, extending his left hand forward towards the beast. Small grains of sand surrounded Alem and Asahina both, raised off of the ground at numerous heights and gradually expanding outwards to offer better awareness of the area. The grains were disturbed both above ground and within it; Aseela’s huffs of warning served as a secondary notice. There were things in the area that didn’t belong. **“Never mind what I told you about hiding, it's too late. Attack, now.”** Alem muttered. Emitting power from his being and bringing it forth towards the beast that had broken free and charged towards them stupidly, its ‘speed’ was reduced to nothing more than a painfully slow trot that could easily be taken advantage of. His ability to reduce the speed of others dramatically had provided Asahina the perfect advantage for dealing with a mindless beast such as that. Lowering his hand, Alem turned back with his blade drawn to fend off the creatures he felt moving through the very surface of the ground towards him. With what weapon he carried, Alem already knew of the creatures and had encountered them on several occasions outside of Agrabah. The presence of another had not gone unnoticed, and even though he had stopped the fodder that had tried to attack him Alem was not happy to see this man again. Whomever had released that beast had not only placed the people in danger out of their own impatience, but now he had to once again deal with scum because of it. He had underestimated the laziness of the Empire, and his tolerance had run out. He’d act against them now, not just for the people but his own satisfaction as a result of this cruelty. No more chances. Aseela stood firm knowing that the safest place was close beside Alem. **“Walk away.”** Alem warned Salforge. He would not be intimidated, reasoned with, or accepting of anything that would be said. It was because of his comrade’s lazy stupidity that Alem was no longer in a mood to entertain the Empire’s dogs, and that included the man who chose to make idle chat.
Shizuka's eyes narrowed as she noticed Lin's reaction to her question. She was clutching her chest, which was something she had seen Ace do many times now. An emotional cord had been struck and there was no taking it back, the note had already been heard. Being the courteous girl that she was, she answered the question in spite of her clear discomfort. Shizuka was relived to hear that Mulan and the others were well, ever since she learned of the empire's invasion of the Land of Dragons she had feared for everyone's safety. The topic changed to the current plans of action on her world, however Lin did not get far before she stumbled upon a memory that she clearly did not wish to discuss. She had not seen the Emperor of China executed, yet the reality of the matter had hit her hard regardless. Even as a warrior with many deadly techniques under her belt, she had not gone through the last rite of becoming a solider in a war, she had not seen death up close. Shizuka smiled and took a sip of water, letting Lin know in her own way that it was okay to go on. The new topic caught her off guard however. She gulped down some water too quickly, and had to stifle a cough. "Han would like to see me?" She said, bashfully turning her gaze away and hiding her wriggling grin with the cup in her hands. As if that wasn't enough of a shock to her system, Lin kept going, mentioning marriage and just how special she could become to her brother. If she were to blush any more at the moment the water in her hand would be steaming. It was as good as a schoolgirl crush, but in the time that she had gotten to know Han she had grown to deeply admire him. If she could see him again, she would need to steel herself and finally attempt to ask him out, she just hoped she didn't literally turn her body into steel, she often did that when nervous. It's more embarrassing than it sounds. Shizuka downed the cup of water and turned back to Lin with a not so flustered face. She took the empty cup from her and placed them both on a table. "I don't think you give yourself enough credit." She said, walking back over to Lin. You're Han's sister, if there's anyone he should be able to open up with it's you..." Shizuka giggled and idly scratched her cheek. "But~ I'm more than willing to help out if need be." She gently grasped Lin and hugged her into her chest. "I'd love to have a sister as cute as you, after all." She kept Lin right where she was for a moment, and for some reason she wondered if there would be a time when they could no longer spend time together. It was a dreadful thought, one she was more than happy with dispelling. "But you know, even if I didn't marry Han, I'd still be your friend for as long as I lived." __________ There was a strange feeling stirring inside of Asahina's body. She was physically in control of her body, yet at the same time felt as if she was drifting away from behaving in a way that the being known as "Asahina" would. She could hear Alem's voice, he was giving her instructions. However, his voice was muddled, not because of faulty hearing but because she swore that her body was choosing to ignore it. She felt as if she were in that machine again, suspended in animation with no way out, only the prison was now her own body... no, as she was now the entire world felt like a prison. The dark beast quickly approached, and as it did she felt the presence of many more heartless sprouting up around her. The small fry were of no matter, as she was now they would refrain from attacking her. Alem noticed the other heartless as well, and choose to tell her to strike now, she was more than eager to. She sprinted forward, only to be stopped by a sudden barrier. Someone else must have arrived, odd, she could not sense the presence of a heart. With her path being blocked she grew frustrated, she did not bother turning around to see who had interfered, instead she banged on the barrier with her hands. The force was enough to topple a reinforced wall, yet the barrier showed no signs of breaking. She let out a fierce roar and jumped into the air, darkness then began to swirl around her body like a whirlpool of black smoke. She kicked her legs, and pockets of darkness formed at her feet to step on, allowing her to clear over the barrier. She charged towards the beast, a furious scowl etched upon her face. The beast had suddenly slowed to a crawl, thanks to Alem's magic, and she intended to take full advantage. Brandishing her claws she dashed into her target, aiming for the limbs on the left side of it's body, she then skidded to a quick halt along the ground using her claws, and charged once more from behind, taking the other limbs. Asahina wasn't sure how she was doing this, she was conscious of her actions, even knew what she was about to do next, yet she refused to believe that this was her. She stopped right next to the monster, and began to claw at it manically. Her hands tore the flesh from it's body, and she wasn't sure when, but she had begun to laugh as she did so. What she did next was horrifying, she began to consume the heartless. As it's body tore apart it liquefied, allowing her to devour it. Her mouth opened to grotesque proportions, and she chewed and ripped with razor teeth. Soon enough nothing remained of her victim, and with the source of her ire gone she soon regained control over her body. "W-wha..." She fell to her knees and clutched her arms, shaking.
His right eye projected a screen just outside the outer rim of his pupil. Impossible to be seen from the outside, it rolled a screen similar to the one displayed for Ryoko, his 103rd providing a thorough breakdown analysis of all phenomenon within range of immovable block. To think the master, his old master devised an intricate device that had now become his lifeblood. The mercenary was already walking on eggshells in Agrabah, the locals were devastated and impoverished. The shrill screams bounced off of immovable block and reverberated all over. Then he did something unexpected, he sat down and simply waited. This wasn't an act of non-aggression, in fact he would leave it to him to discern just exactly what his intentions were. He could try, empathy reads were futile at best, every calculation is what he'd administer and he would win. He was a mercenary, his training was exceptional and constantly evolving to mete the situation based on the happenings and the way it sat, this would only get worse. "No." he blinked, and opened his eyes the sound of a sword swipe clad against steel. His immovable block had locked the area down, all exits were sealed in tier 1 barriers within a matter of seconds. These were smash able with three consecutive casts, but by the time they could potentially get off one, he would attack them without hesitation. The CI located in his left eye flickered, growing feverishly anxious to be unleashed at the sight of another application of a chrono-esque application. "Move me from this spot and then I will be more than happy to." Before his statement had even concluded, he formed a spired that was translucent in color, that rotated around his body, giving him an effective space of about two meters circumference. It's constant rotation in part with the mercenary's stationary position possessed a much larger problem for the opposition. As he did while inside the factory, here too he was reinforcing the area while rooted and completely stationary, and this was being done in a concurrent manner. However there was no visible fidelity of the action, and the longer he remained stationary the more hands on he could be with his blocks, reinforcing them against all alien acts of hostility. Salforge wasn't blind to the woman with the resident, she was definitely unnatural. Having witnessed this, so did his 103rd, he'd taken careful consideration devouring heartless as something exotic. Had Ryoko the time to offer him a better explanation, the heartless were certainly drawn to her as they were repelled by his unnatural existence. His arms hung off his knees and he waited, he was a skilled trapper and as well as a sandbag for hostiles. Reaching into the pocket of his jacket, he pulled out a book and began to read it in the middle of all of this.
Agrabah. Boy, was this place sure hot. Hot enough to cause Yu to seek shade for a majority of his stay. Nearly as soon as he arrived, he found his way to a cozy little bar. It had been about twenty minutes since he arrived there, and as long as he kept occasionally ordering a drink, it seemed that the barkeep wouldn't mind his stay. This place kept him out of the hot sun, and allowed him a little time to himself. There was a small table tucked away in a corner near the door, and he took his place there. So far, he was enjoying his little journey, although finding answers about himself was as difficult as he thought. He had no hints as to where he was born, and only fragmented memories of his birth parents. For now, he decided to put all of that on hold, and just enjoy his travels. It would do him well to learn about the different people and cultures of the other worlds. It was something he wanted to share with the kids at the orphanage when he returned, and his adoptive mother as well. Yu began to ponder his stay here in Agrabah. So far the biggest impression he received was that it was mainly a scorching hot desert town. Despite the fact that the people here seemed friendly enough, poverty had its root here. Children and adults alike would attempt to pickpocket and steal, suffering harsh penalties if they were caught. Attempting to take his mind off such matters, he began to brainstorm about possible souvenirs to get. There was sure to be a place here where he could buy a nice gift, or something as a memento of his to be short trip here. After ordering food, that's exactly what he'd do. He waved over one of the waitresses, placing his order for a simple dish. She informed him the expected time of the food to come to him would probably be about fifteen minutes. As he patiently wait for his meal, he considered the many things to buy. The idea of getting a scarf for his mother was sounding appealing, and it was pretty difficult to go wrong with something such as that. Seeing as his mother's taste wasn't too complicated, he opted to get her something with a simple design. Now all he had to do was find somewhere that sold scarves. It shouldn't be too hard to find, seeing as there are merchants selling their wares on nearly every street. It would just have to come down to finding the right one. Yu leaned back in his chair, listening to the slight creaking as he adjusted himself. He reached for his cup, taking a sip of its contents before placing it back down. After he ate and paid, he would go to retrieve his gift. After that, he figure something else out, if not find somewhere to sleep for the night.
-------------------------------------- ~~~~~~Agrabah / Royal Street (Main Street leaving from the Palace)~~~~~~ Speed had slowed for the charging beast, yet its mind was still as quick and as sharp as ever thanks to its many eyes still present along its body, each one sending a wave of information to it. Wildly Asahina swung her claws as she danced around the creature, tearing solid lumps of flesh from the abomination which promptly became nothing more than splashes of liquid darkness, and yet still the beast swung just as frantically back at the attacking woman. As more of the abomination faded with every swipe and devour from Asahina, the splashes that stained the ground still completed their purpose, with many more of the Neo-Shadows sprouting up like weeds, but like the others soon retreated to the shadows in fear of the two beasts of darkness attacking one another. Soon there was nothing left of the monster except the destruction it had caused in its wake, that and the now rare drops of darkness stained ground from which the new groups of Heartless had come from. Crawling towards the shaking form of Asahina after her fragile mind had returned, the new Heartless that remained quickly returned to their own feral minded selves, the now growing group turning on the only other two figures that weren't like them. Stirred into a frenzy the Neo-Shadows flung themselves towards the large barrier created by Salforge, their large claws bouncing off the reflective surface while others reduced themselves to their famous liquid darkness. Staining the barriers it was as if the creatures were learning what worked and didn't, the more forceful ways being one that didn't, and so becoming liquid as if to try and leak through any cracks or spaces that might exist, all to get at the two figures, more the one who possessed a heart than anything else. ~~~~~~Agrabah / Palace Gates~~~~~~ Though the massive gates had been charged through by the Abomination of darkness, unlike the weaker constructs that were destroyed in the creature's wake as it made its way down Royal Street, those that separated the palace from the rest of the city were sturdy enough to survive in one whole piece. The masked and robed figures that had been responsible for letting the beast loose continued with their duties, most monitoring the machines that had been set up around them, while a small handful that seemed to be in charge made any needed changes due to the data being transmitted to them. The sound of the main machine, that seemed to branch out and link to all the others, beginning to power down, immediately caused all of the figures to stop what they were doing and watch for any changes. Only a low hum and flicker of life from the machine showed any kind of continued activation, and with no apparent change the lead masked figure's eyes began to glow a dark purple, an action that quickly spread through to the other figures and most likely anything else like them. ~~~~~~Agrabah / Bazaar-Inn Street~~~~~~ Though the panicking crowds had fled the bazaars of Royal Street, those who populated the side areas seemed to remain oblivious to what was happening. The inns and taverns that seemed to pop up everywhere were still full of drinking and eating customers, and the more smaller stalls that couldn't handle Royal Street were still selling their tiny amount of wares to any passer-bys. Though the strange clothes worn by the walking Nomis and Caleb were clear enough to tell everyone who saw them that they weren't from this world, the way the crowds parted and quickly moved out of their way was also clear of the authority and powerful presence they had. The sudden immediate halt to Nomis' steps was enough to cause Caleb to stop in turn, looking back towards his uncle and about to question whatever had changed. The dark look of his uncle's eyes told Caleb all he needed to know, the young man taking the time to look around their current surroundings while Nomis silently stood. "_What is it? Has the experiment already completed its task?_" "_**Yes Lord Clacverk...monitoring it after release the experiment gave a strong and constant pulse of energy. Which quickly faded after, we agree to be most logical, the assimilation phase from the target.**_" "_Good, the foreign entity should make any kind of control of the target simple once it has been given time. Begin increasing the pulse now steadily._" "_**Yes Lord Clacverk...**_"
**“Of course he would!”** Lin was quick to reinforce her point, amused by Shizuka’s own surprise. The impression that girl could make was a strong one, and it was funny to see her squirm under the pressure of trying to impress someone. Lin understood that feeling all too well, so it was nice to see someone else experience the butterflies in ones stomach for once. Taking the empty cup from her hand after smoothly finishing hers, Shizuka had made mention to something Lin had already considered. Being Han’s little sister should have meant a lot, but she believed Shizuka didn’t quite understand the situation she was in. Lies and secrets can be cruel, yet could also be used to protect someone or something very dear to you. Lin had never doubted her brother’s love for her, and he never allowed her to either. Opening up was a lot harder than keeping the doors closed. Shizuka seemed to underestimate her brother’s strength of will in favor of optimism, this was one of those times where Lin could not easily agree. Shizuka tugged her gently into her hold, hugging her in kindness and care that momentarily made Lin think of her mother. The exhaustion of the events leading up to arriving in this world were beginning to take stronger hold, but Lin allowed herself to stay attentive for just a little longer with arms wrapping around Shizuka. **“If you’ll be my friend for as long as you live, I’ll be your friend even after our lives end.”** Lin muttered, though with her lips pressed against the fabric of Shizuka’s clothing it may have been hard to make it out. Of all things she wanted right now, sleep was slowly making its way at the top of the list. Before Shizuka could offer another word of advice, Lin was soundly asleep in her grasp. ~-~ As Yu was prepared to leave, a certain small but honest merchant (but not really) stumbled past him with two men, both with red sashes around their waists. **“Is it time yet?” ** **“It would seem so, we have visitors from other worlds eager to put an end to all this. This is the opportunity we have been looking for.”** Okal would mention to one of his companions, gesturing towards the bar. The two men had seated themselves there, leaving Okal to be between the two. **“It doesn’t hurt to have a little outside assistance to remove an outside problem. Our patience shall pay off, I assure you.”** The two men looked at each other, a mixture of joy and concern on their faces, leaving a very difficult expression to read. ** “Will ‘he’ help?”** **“He? By ‘He’ you must mean our own hand to play!”** Okal rubbed his hands together.** “You leave me to inform him. It will not hurt to have other options for aiding us, but Agrabah only has one hero.”** ~-~ **“Both arrogant and stupid. You waste time because yours is worth none. Good to know, outsider.” **Alem summed up Salforge’s actions quickly, not bothering to struggle. Playing games with someone whose actions had no higher cause or purpose other than to irritate the other and seek attention was not a game he wished to play. Dismissing his khopesh and turning towards Asahina, Alem guided Aseela to Asahina’s side. At the very least he’d take advantage of the barrier that kept the foreign creatures at bay. Seeing her whimper as a result of her actions against that beast, Alem could not find the time to console her, especially now. Asahina had a weak disposition, and this wasn’t the time or place to mend that weakness. Taking her hand and holding it firmly, Alem gave a glance towards a nearby alley, eying seemingly nothing. The sands that suspended around them gave him the hint that there was a presence hidden beyond the barrier, and with a plea to his higher being, Allah, Asahina, Alem, and Aseela vanished instantaneously leaving no trace behind.
The mercenary offered a brief window of surprise, a hair-thin flinch to seemingly offset his disposition. He talked as a means of stalling, and as he turned another page in his book, looking down he knew exactly where everyone was positioned from the small group, to the feral abomination of Clacverk's design. To them, they appeared like a grid, being constructed, an imprint was being created and put into place unbeknownst to them. The immovable block was at its optimum performance when completely still, and perhaps this was the mistep the stranger did not expect. The mercenary gave no visual clues as to how anything worked, or even his intentions. A mercenary masters lies, A steel heart masters all emotions, and trades them for absolute logic, reasoning, deduction, and cunning. His counter attack would be devastating, and already within his trump, the mercenary's ears tickled at the sound captured by a superior opponent. Superior...in terms of motivation, his second impression was that he got a harsh feeling he was disliked by mere association, that was acceptable, albeit expected and inconsequential. If there was something he had, it was range. To sacrifice nearly all offensive power of defensive, trapping capability, imbued with range. The 103rd extended his effective range, it made his area of effect worth noting, but his barriers were nothing special or worth any note in particular to his foes. It reminded him, when heroes encountered boss-level heartless, like Darksides and the Possessor, those heartless were powerful enough to contain entire areas in a fashion no different than how Salforge just did. His attention back on the stranger, he spared Salforge his misdirected intentions to be fulfilled only with harsh words and an ominous beck and call. Salforge offered no true form of expression, a simple lift of his head from having heard a dispatch of words, and within moments, their group kindly removed themselves from just beyond the area. This had already happened before, teleportation always seemed to come at the convenience of all his opposition when they were without an alternative. Here he was, a non-aggressive oppressor, with only melee attacking capabilities and one ranged output of aggression, yet they chose a tactical retreat. Smart, for all of that abrasive harking, that was the best possible plan of action, but it wasn't anywhere near a fast enough. The mercenary sighed, and he dialed a number on his cell phone. "General? Mhm. Yeah. No, unfortunately they can teleport...again. Is it my imagination, or is that getting to be the redundant method of leaving today. Well anyway, I didn't get a confession, but i did confirm his deception. Mhm. Yes, the girl was with him, she seems confused and out place with social interaction. No worries, wait until I tell you the good news." The barrier's then proceeded to dissipate, and he could hear the scurrying of the heartless quickly forging on and around his position. The mercenary was talking a tad more enthusiastically into the cell phone this time around, completely ignoring the heartless. They seemed disinterested, and quickly averted their attention to the streets. "I think you'll appreciate this once we've regrouped. In due time general."
The next morning
Sitting at a table with a cup of tea in his hands Ace swirled the nearly black liquid around absentmindedly. "The tea too strong for you Ace?" Osa said. She was sitting across from him, sipping a cup of sweetened tea of her own. He sat the cup down, and looked at her. "No, it's fine. It just reminds me of this cafe in Hollow Bastion that me and Shizuka used to go to. She'd always want to go there for the cakes, and I'd always go for the tea." "And the cute waitresses." "And the waitresses, yes." Ace smirked, and downed the tea. Shizuka then entered the room with a loud yawn and shaggy hair. "Lin still asleep?" He asked. "Yup, I just couldn't wake her up Ace, she looked so comfortable." She said, taking a seat at the table. Osa poured her a cup of tea and Shizuka nodded in thanks. "It sounds like she went through quite a lot the other day, A little rest should do her well." Osa said. "So, what are we doing today?" The question was clearly aimed at Ace, he sighed and looked at the ceiling. "For a long time our plan of action was to destroy the factories. But now we know there's people being used as their cores. There are a number of steps we can take from here, but I believe we need to find the girl that was inside of the factory in Hollow Bastion, and figure out what the purpose of the structures is. Hopefully Rika or Okal have found something out."
_____
Stepping out of a steamy washroom, Ryoko walked into a small room with two beds. She had rented out a room in an inn for herself and Salforge, she could have stayed in the palace, but with the main gate having been destroyed by Nomis's rabid monster the place was in disarray. She walked past the man with a steel heart adorned in nothing but a towel, she was never much of a modest woman. "At least this place has a bath..." She sighed, walking over to her bed where her clothes lay. She removed her towel, and began to change. "So, what was this good news you had for me, Salforge?" She asked.
_____
Asahina shot straight up awake from her bed, her yellow eyes darted across the room as if she were trying to follow a swarm of flies. She soon recognized the plain room as Alem's home. After her encounter yesterday, she had been too shaken to communicate with Alem. She had completely lost control of herself, it was no longer a question, she knew she was losing her mind. It was only a matter of time until she attacked the only man that had shown her kindness thus far. She turned to face Alem, who was already awake, though she wasn't sure if he had even slept at all. "Are you sure... You should keep. Helping me?" She turned her gaze downwards. "I may. Hurt you."
