Damage is impact based, so over time it can knock a monster out like the Hammer. Over time a meter builds, like the Long Sword/Dual Blades, and when it is full a special attack can be used that does a lot of damage and inflicts a great deal of Exhaustion (like some bowgun shots/arrows) that lowers the monster's stamina.
