ARRAN WHITE
Arran dodged out the way of the stampede of kids around her age rushing out of the school gates. Spotting Kyle she ducked and dodged through the mass of bodies until she caught up to him, grabbing onto his arm to avoid getting swept away with the tide. Kyle spun round, caught sight of Arran, holding onto his arm for dear life, and pulled her out of the crowd. “Arran! Why aren’t you at the shop? I specifically suggested going to a shop, so as to avoid this mess.” Arran blinked, frowning. “I forgot,” she muttered in a small voice. “So why didn’t you text me?” Kyle asked. “I forgot.” Arran said again. Kyle threw his hands in the air, “Oh, come on, you forgot to text me?”
“No” Arran stated matter-of-factly “I forgot my phone, it’s on your desk. Charging, I think.” Rolling his eyes Kyle pulled Arran down the street, to a shop, a deli according to the sign. Sitting down at a table at the back Arran looked at Kyle, “And we are meting here, why?”
“Ben suggested this place, he said it was good.” Kyle answered. Ben was the guitarist for Night; Kyle the drummer, another boy, called Luke, was the bass/pianist, and Arran the vocalist. “I sure hope Ben’s the one paying then, cause I’d rather have gotten a coffee and sat in the park.” Arran grumbled, playing with the frayed hem of her shirtsleeve, “I finished recording that song, by the way.” Kyle looked up, “you got it here?” he asked enthusiastically. “Nope.” Arran admitted not looking up, “I forgot”
“Uh huh.” Kyle huffed, having obviously been looking forward to hearing it. “Yo, wassup?” said a voice from behind them. Arran and Kyle swiveled round to see a familiar freckled face, grinning at them, “Ben not here yet? Ah well, we can wait. You finish that song yet? Cause I want to hear it, oh please say you finished it. Hey Kyle. Ohhh… what do we want to eat? Or drink? I want a coffee, do you think they sell coffee?”
“Neither you nor Arran need a coffee.” Kyle patted the chair next to him, “So sit down, now.”
“Yes sir.” Luke sat his hyperactive but down, and then popped straight back up again; “I see Ben, be back in a tick” He dashed for the door, dodging tables, chairs, and people. “Oh god.” Kyle sighed. “How did he ever have the patience to learn instruments?” Arran asked watching Ben’s blond hair, meet with the dark streak that was Luke, and then weave their way over to the table. “Hey Kyle, Arran.” Ben nodded and took Luke’s empty chair, Luke in the mean time, reigned in his energy long enough to sit down, with out springing up like a jack-in-the-box. “Soooooo…… Did you finish the song?” Ben enquired, “I’ve got my computer if you want to have a listen.”
“Uhhh…… I don’t have the song.” Arran muttered, and then defensively; “But I did email it to you guys” Ben smiled, "good thing I checked my emails before I came then isn’t it?” He pulled out his shiny new Mac-book Pro and flipped over to itunes, turning the volume down and plugging in a four-way headphone splitter, then after everyone had plugged in their headphones, he started the song.
