Brief Description
Birth
Kitsune bred depending on their genders. Usually each selecting the other gender of human in order to procreate and increase their race, their methods differ if the Kitsune is male or female as do their prey selection. Male Kitsunes will locate and infect pregnant human females causing the demonic essence to swallow the once human fetus, replacing the cells with its own which then will create a new life within the woman. Stages of gestation for the woman and the newly formed Kitsune depends on when the mother was infected. Earlier stages required longer time for the infant to fully form and mature while later stages need less as it’s only replacing the recent matured ones, in essence rewriting them. Female Kitsunes however seek out young, unattached male humans. Often seducing and devouring their essence, resorting and finally creating a life within the female Kitsune. She will carry for a few months and give 'birth', abandoning the infant at the best moment to restart the process fresh.
When a kit is born, he is nothing more than a mewling and helpless animal version of his demon. If the mother is a Kitsune, then likely the kit will already be trying to absorb whatever is given in its surroundings. If the mother is human, she won’t survive the process. Instead the infant is born and the body caused away for others to dispose of. Either way, the infant is alone when first introduced to the world. He is often left struggling to avoiding becoming a surface demon’s addition to their next stage of evolution. This stage is often the most dangerous as most kits rarely survive past it in modern times making Kitsune rare and almost extinct.
Childhood
After about 2 years, a kitsune enters a growth spurt. Often he will grow into a eight year old boy, or girl if it is a she, suddenly casting off their fox like skin. This point when the skin peels off and fur left behind is rather painful and the most disgusting moment. Mainly because the skin left behind appears to make it seem as if the cub was skinned alive, leaving a naked child with a fox’s fur, tail and head standing there. Liquid filth staining his fur into clumps. These are the mature form equivalent of toddlers /children for human when the kitsune had finally acquired enough years of life. Some have been known to create pacts within this stage to increase their chance at living to adulthood and beyond. The bad part, most are desperate, often making ill decision by pacting with inferior demons causing him and his pact maker to end up someone’s lunch.
Adulthood
Those rare few who reach adulthood, usually close to 100 in age, have become survivors and managed to establish strong connections to powerful demons. This has helped him to survive even increased his knowledge though sometimes it’s hard to tell the true pact maker from an associate. With each new 100 years, a Kitsune will gain a new ability to further his power and strength. However, this stage also increases the risk of one becoming feral due to the emotional connection to the pact holder. Some Kitsunes, often encouraged by their pact makers, will devour large amounts of essence in the form of blood, flesh or other such matter.
Behavior
- Bonding: The same gender that a kitsune has grown attachment for tend to rouse the inner demon, the stronger the love is then the more aggressive and sadistic side of the kitsune. He would feel an intense need to maim, hurt and even kill the source of his affection if the connection is strong enough. This inherited sensation is a survival defense to ensure there aren’t any same gender couplings as the Kitsune needs a human of the opposite gender in order to reproduce. Sadly this inherent trait can’t distinguish between different types of love, like say the difference in child compared to a lover, which tends to isolate the Kitsune from having any close, same gender friends. The only one immune to this effect is the pact holder. Namely since it would’ve been more harmful to become physically aggressive toward that individual because of the pact’s nature. Likewise, opposite genders are treated the completely opposite. Instead of aggression or hate, the Kitsune feels attachment to the opposite gender which can vary from deep affection to outright possession sometimes. Mostly it’s up to the Kitsune to determine how far to let his affection go and act on his primal instincts.
- Strangers: Most times, the same gender are usually kept at a distance. Dealt with strictly in an icy and business fashion which can come off rather overly professional to those who don’t understand the demon race’s nature. More the reason is that he can keep an emotionally detachment toward the individuals is remain polite and respectful in addressing the same genders. No surprise the opposite gender is often employed in higher ranks among the Kitsune’s employment as there’s less chance of bitter hate, judgement and aggression against key apartments. He also shows more of a friendly terms then just business, allowing of those of the opposite gender to work closely in and out of the work place.
Any time a kitsune attempts to fight his nature, it inflicts tormenting pain which can drive him or her insane. Often resulting in sudden mood swings that lead to violence upon the source. Usually killing the poor unfortunate soul in a blind unexplained rage, keeping any close bond from forming with the same gender. Some kitsunes had learned by inflicting some method of misery, it is possible to lessen this intensity and even control for a long time. However many victims mistake the abuse as being volunteered without a deeper reason explaining why few kitsunes have same gender bonds or relationships.
Race Traits
Kitsune Pact:
This species of Kitsune can use their essence to make an exact duplicate of their current form. It’s a complete genetic copy, from appearance down to power level at that moment locked within a small hand held crystal. To keep his soul from passing into the afterlife, his demonic species have learned to create a small, thin line of essence which ties his soul to the shard’s form so when he does died; it’s ripped violently back into the shard no matter where its location is at. However the memory lies with the demon’s soul and will be retained even after the soul is ripped back into the imprisoned form.
Continual Essence Absorption and Tails:
A Kitsune doesn’t absorb essence like normal demons so their ‘incarnation’ cycle is very different. Instead of consuming large amounts, a fox will absorb it through the environment continually and at a gradual rate which explains why the Kitsune live a long time. The energy is stored into the cells and after a key period of time, its packed away into the form of a tail. Every hundred or so years a Kitsune has lived, he’s gained a new tail up to nine total and another magical ability. With each new tail, each individual is unique to what magic they have acquired at that period of his life. A well raised Kitsune can grow in high level Hellion or slightly below a Warden in power level, mainly Ferals fall in this area.
When a Kitsune becomes a Feral, they lose their ability of higher thinking. Usually becoming mindless animals with the sole purpose to consumed and wreak destruction in their area. Precision and complicated tasks are impossible, including higher planning and logical behavior are beyond his understanding. The cells within a Feral are warped, reflecting on the outside as mutations and bizarre features, into monstrous standards even by demon standards. Often these Ferals are results of poor raising/pact choices and once the process has been started, it’s irreversible due to chemical signals making the rapid consumption rather additive.
