So, I've done this a few times, and this time I would like a completely collaborative RP. What this means is that everyone has a say in plot, location, and everything but the rules. Those will be up to me and Captain Shelton. I'm looking for those who have RP'd with me before to come and add their brilliance, show interest, and new people are more than welcome to show interest :) It's true casual. All the rules of the show exist. I would like for the RP to be set in the south. Other than that, throw out ideas.

Interested. May I get an explanation of the plot? Does any actual information about TWD required, or is it just the same universe- simply zombies?

I would be up to doing another TWD RP with you Anna. :) And Wilson I think the only thing you should know about the show is that the characters are all infected with the zombie plague even if they were never bitten so for example if your character died from a stab wound to the chest he would turn a few seconds later after he died.

A carrier disease that only becomes prominent when severely injured or ill, you mean? Understood. I've only watched a few episodes, one of them being the one where they found the revelation of how the illness shut down the brain and etc. etc etc.

Yay for interests! Shelton is in the middle of an icepocalypse, and so I will have to get him officially on board in a few days. He's set to hopefully have power back by like next week. As far as the walking dead goes, every single human on earth is infected with a disease (as a biology major I'm basically forced to explain evolutionary microbiology to you guys). It seems to me that the virus in the show is a defense mechanism of the human race as a whole, an evolutionary trait that has developed over the last several hundred (perhaps even thousand) years in response to the fact that humans are the leading killer of humans. There is a vast overpopulation of Homo sapiens sapiens on earth, and with overpopulation eventually comes an ecological fallout, due to lack of resources (anything from the air we breathe to the food we eat, to even clean water). So, our bodies begin to open up to host new diseases, culling out those who aren't particularly strong enough to fight off such. This is where patient x comes from, in this case. It has never been explained exactly where or how this person came about. For all we know, it was some old fart that died, and suddenly the virus was evident. It appears (which really isn't as realistic as I would like) that the virus flipped on like a light. We know that it is happening all over the world (in TS-19, it was mentioned that the Paris CDC was the first of the Government Agencies to fall, and it struck fear in all of the scientists, who then began panicking, and several committed suicide, realizing there was no way out. It appears that some people are simply resistant to the virus (like the survivors) but as with a lot of different pathogens and bacterium on our skin (staph, MSRA, etc.), the strain that is punctured through the skin is a lot more prevalent, robust, and quick evolving than the slow incubating virus inside of us. The virus inside of us uses us as a vector, of sorts. When our body dies, that's when the virus takes over, standing us up and using us as a sort of vehicle. It walks us around and because it takes control of only the Cerebellum (balance, motor skills, and coordination), and the spinal chord (chewing, swallowing, and parts of the pharynx), we come back as dead, but very slowly decaying corpses. Due to the lack of body heat, and the lack of blood flow, and natural body decay, our bodies go into a sort of slow burning rot, that can last for months (and in some cases, due to winters, maybe years). There are three ways that someone can come back as a walker (that we know of - I'm still iffy about people getting blood into wounds). Those things are: a bite (as stated above, saliva vs blood...two different strains), dying of natural causes (or really any causes that don't destroy the cerebellum), and scratches (for some reason, their blood mixing with ours deliberately seems to cause us to turn). I don't expect you to have a grasp on all of this, really. I just used what I know to explain it. However, I expect that if you're going to make walkers, or if you're going to throw a character into a situation, be realistic. The Walking Dead created zombies very similar to the Max Brooks zombies (the BOOK World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide). They are slow, but they are incredibly strong. They do not feel pain. So, they do not feel fatigue. This means that while me and you can't grab someone with our fingers and crush their skull, a walker might be able to, due to the lack of muscle strain. If you remember (or have seen it), Dale was eviscerated in season 2 by a walker. It seemed easy because it was. Where I'm going with this is, your character would have a lot of trouble fighting off a thousand hands if he was in the middle of a herd of walkers. It only takes one to get a good hold on him, and he's done. So, be realistic. Now that I have ranted, and probably made my Shelton proud of me lol I will leave you guys to it. If you want an OOC, right now, I can post one sometime tomorrow. If you want to wait a bit longer, we can. :)

I'm already in a similar RP, but I'll keep my eye on this. There are a few things that I'd have to clear though:
(in TS-19, it was mentioned that the Paris CDC was the first of the Government Agencies to fall, and it struck fear in all of the scientists, who then began panicking, and several committed suicide, realizing there was no way out.
It didn't quite happen that way. It's just mentioned that the Paris CDC (though I'm not sure if it's even called CDC) was very close to a solution before they blew up because they ran out of power.
Explanation of how walkers came about in The Walking Dead
I'd prefer it if it remained ambiguous. Jenner couldn't even put his finger on what kind of pathogen it is. It could be anything from a virus to fungi to bacteria... (Or the wrath of God) I'm sure you could understand the implications of that. Even a 12 year old could tell the difference between virus and bacteria (and fungi or the wrath of God), so if it couldn't be identified...
I don't expect you to have a grasp on all of this, really.
I think by now, a good number of us are educated enough to understand a good amount of this. You never know who your audience, in this case, your fellow roleplayers, are. For all you know, a good number of us could be biology or equivalent majors. You don't even need a major in something like that. I got a diploma in biomedical science :D EDIT: You know what would be interesting? If we play as characters who are following in the wake of Rick's group. We could have characters that existed in the TV show's world but that Rick did not otherwise meet or see again. Anyone from some of his fellow sheriff's deputies to the Vatos would be interesting :)

I definitely wasn't trying to be rude when I said that. I just know that there are a looooot of young kids here (I met Shelton when he was really young, here). So, I know that for my 12 year old sister (the youngest age I have seen here), the concept of any sort of ecology or evolution would be super eh. More of a "whatever you say" moment lol And I'm also not saying that anyone really knows (in the RP) that the virus or whatever it is, is actually anything to do with anything. Like Hershel, they might simply think it's an act of God. I wrote a short proposal about the science behind the Walking Dead, which is where my idea of an evolutionary device came from :) I also think that it would be interesting to play in their wake. Shelton would have a lot of fun with the whole idea of a good soldier in the middle of all of the bombing and needless killing that slammed Atlanta in the beginning :)

The rudeness did register, but I've given up on trying to read rudeness into posts at all, since alot is being lost without spoken words. Don't worry about it. I was just taking it that you had the wrong idea of the demographics here, in that the right idea is that we don't know what kind of demographics we have here. But there you go.
And I'm also not saying that anyone really knows (in the RP) that the virus or whatever it is, is actually anything to do with anything. Like Hershel, they might simply think it's an act of God. I was thinking a little after that, you know, after the rise of the walkers, but I guess that could be done too. Lots of flashbacks sequences and stuff like that. Imagine what it would be like, visiting the Vatos only to find them overrun? Or Hershel's farm? To find the stack of food that was meant for Sophia, or the prison in ruins? And of course, what our characters must think and feel about finding all this, and always remaining one step behind Rick's group. Who knows? Our characters could even be actively tracking Rick and gang, wanting to join up with them, but simply could not make it. Could be due to alot of reasons - herds cutting them off, or the trail going cold, or circumstances forcing them to take a different route.

Well I appreciate you being nice-ish about the rudeness. I get that way sometimes with things...similar to Shelton ranting about guns and such. Ask anyone who was in any of our other RPs with us :p I like the idea of being one step behind, maybe meeting some of the shows' side characters like Dave and Tony, maybe giving them a small back story of violence against our group. Or the military taking down some NPCs of our group in the very beginning, to show the downfall of Atlanta all the way up to Alexandria (considering everyone stays that dedicated). I think I will put up a WIP OOC tonight to get some character sheets up and to get our ideas flowing a little better. Sound good?

But catgirls are genetically impossible, unless we genetically engineer a hybrid. And what are those tails for- human beings are already (more or less) balanced. And the ears would make it impossible for them to go to a normal party, since from what I've heard, it gets pretty loud to dull human ears- cat ears would be worse. #Sciences
