Djedkare quaffed his Shirley Temple, and blissfully rubbed his gut. The nauseating rustling of scarabs settled down under a torrent of sugary water. Exhaling deeply, Djedkare looked around the bar. Though the bar was filled with interesting things, the sight of Jack tinkering with his toys was of utmost interest to the old mummy. Djedkare got up from his seat and seated himself next to Jack. He took on a fatherly tone and inquisitively asked Jack about his advanced tools.

"Hey, sport. What's that you've got there? It looks real spiffy!"

@akje The queen chuckled in her throat and folded her arms, leaning back.

"Mirror Mirror on the wall who is the ...." She considered going traditional, but she did always like to see the mirror smile. It was creepy... and delightful. "...Most fabulous changeling of them all?"

"Why of course it is-" taken aback by an unexpected question, Like hesitated.
He knew he was bound to truth, even if he didn't like it.
Begrudgingly he answered as fairy law dictated.
"Famed is my diversity, Majesty. But hold, a stranger man I see. I can not lie my grace. Alas, he has more flair than me."
The mirror fogged up before showing the image of a rockstar.

"this weapon of mine is called the deflector sword it has 3-transformations,the first is just a simple blade the second is covering of angelic titanium so indestructible only magic can destroy it and my personal favorite is the third transformation, it is a covering of black hole scales and forms into a blade of black, so powerful that nothing can destroy it only a weapon of the same type can destroy this,so this is a really interesting weapon, it's wat keep me alive on my way here, but sadly the magical gear shifter was broken in battle and i dont have the right parts to make it @Earnest Evans"

Djedkare gave Jack a confused look, trying to decipher what he just said. Finally, he snapped his fingers and grinned, as if the truth was in front of him the entire time. This fellow had prayed to the gods and enchanted his sword! Such an event was hardly unheard-of, but to see it gone like this was disconcerting. Djedkare supposed that this boy blasphemed and, thus, lost the god-given right to use this weapon. And here he was, complaining about missing a gear! Oh, those young'uns and their theological illiteracy!

"So it's a magic sword, huh? So you got yourself three blades in there, 'cuz... you don't like the look'a the other two, I guess. Sounds to me like you'd be better off with just yer favorite sword an' use that all the time. How's it work, anyway?"

The red queen squinted, a bit confused. Then she exchanged glances with her handmaiden.
"Who is this.... Bowie?" She asked her. The handmaiden's eyes lit up, she then opened her corset to show her her David Bowie t-shirt underneath.

"Only the most amazing singer EVER!<3" Her handmaiden squeed, shining brighter than a star on angel dust. Her handmaiden began to prattle on about the singer in the background while Avalai ignored her and turned back to the mirror.

"Oh yes, and, who is the fairest of them all?" She partially chuckled, glad she had frazzled the changeling a little. It was a mute revenge for making her feel the way he had, but it wasn't out of cruelty. She now felt themselves to be even.

As Jack began speaking in a recently-dead language, Djedkare frowned gently. Placing a well-wishing hand on Jack's shoulder and bringing Jack's chin up to meet Djedkare's, Djedkare soothed Jack as best he could.

"Hey, sport. It's gonna be okay. We all gotta suffer some hardships in life. You know, I wouldn't beat myself up over losing my family, those kind'a things happen t'everyone!"

Djedkare spared a glance at Jack's sword. The boy had said something about how it was ancient and how it was missing a magical something or other. Judging by how pathetic it looked right now, that something or other was vitally important. Djedkare scoffed at the ridiculous habit these young'uns had when designing things. Way too many moving parts that, if broken off, would ruin the whole device!

"Now, listen: if that sword'a yers is made of a material that ain't reforgeable and can be ruined by takin' out that little kerjigger you got, I ain't too confident it's gonna help ya. You need yourself a tool made of sterner stuff. Now, see, when I was your age, I used a good old-fashioned copper spear and a sling. It worked fer me, an' it's sure as hell gonna work fer you. 'Sides from that, you're gonna need t' grow a thicker skin. If ya cry every time ya think about yer hometown, you ain't gonna make it as an adult. Put the past behind ya, an' you'll be better off in the future!"

Djedkare looked hopefully into Jack's eyes. Maybe this child would be able to get over such a small thing as having his hometown destroyed. After all, Djedkare could get over spending the last few centuries trapped in a coffin and the loss of everything he ever knew.

Kakutoku Sha, or Sweet Daddy K as he preferred to be called glanced back to one of his lovely ladies, as he waved a wad of Yen. "Baaa-beey, ya'll did a good'ol job ya hear. Buy yo'self a sweet glass of Congac, fiiiine and succulent nect-ah. It goes down smoooooth. Maybe go find a little dash of Kabuki."

She graciously bowed as took the wad of cash. "I really should ge-" With a swift wag of his tail, and pointing his gilded cane at her he shook his head. "Nah, nah. Listen to yo Daddy. 'Til Daddy says, ya on Vaa-Kay ya hear? Can't have all work 'n no play. Constantly workin' ain't gonna help ya out. Sweet Daddy K saw oh too many people work day in, day out, sleepin' at the desk. Ain't no way ta live or work. An' ya working for Sweet Daddy K, ain't gonna letcha suffer like dem fellas. Those workin' fo Daddy are taken care of."

Again she bowed to Sweet Daddy K. "I thank you." Kakutoku shook his head as he laughed as his belly jiggled violently with merriment. "Ain't no thang but a chicken wang. Just 'nother reason they call me Sweet Daddy K." He chuckled a bit more as he waved off one of his lovely ladies. He glanced at the other two ladies behind him, "Ya'll two on Va-Kay, buuuut Sweet Daddy always gotta 'ave a lil' arm-candy." The both gave a single nod.

He tapped his cane as he swaggered on over to the hotel's bar, followed by two of his lovely ladies. As he entered he quickly began spying around for any particularly interesting individuals.

Djedkare gave Jack a blank stare, and quietly rose from his seat. Djedkare, shaking ever so slightly, advanced on Jack with nothing but sorrow in his eyes. With his leathery whip of a hand, Djedkare gave Jack a dope slap. The sound of his ancient hand striking Jack's forehead made a hollow 'thwap'. There was sorrow in Djedkare's voice as he stared down at Jack.

"Your presumptuous nature betrays your lack of awareness, boy. Do you not think that I know of war and loss? It was I who led the doomed scouts of the Fifth Dynasty into Punt and Byblos. It was I who fought and bled in the war against the Demons of Smokeless Fire. All I have done for my people, I have done at the cost of my loved ones. And yet, here we are!"

Djedkare's tone became altogether more venomous. His fists clenched and unclenched as he paced around Jack.

"I, the Pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty, have lost everything in death! I, who have passed the Trials of the Forty-Two Judges. I, who weighed my heart against Maat and was found without sin! I, who have passed beyond Anubis with a smile on my face, only to awaken in a sealed sarcophagus! I, who was released into the world to see my works returned to the shifting sands from whence they came! All you have seen of your people's destruction is pathetic compared to the horrors shown to me in the afterlife! The pain you have felt as you groped blindly through the world as a babe set loose in the reeds is nothing compared to the unending nightmare that was my revivification!"

Djedkare at last got ahold of himself, and sighed deeply.
"Listen, boy. You have suffered a great injustice, and you do not have the experience to handle it. If you take anything from our meeting, it is this: cling not to the past, lest the present evade you. That sword of yours is an emotional crutch that will do nothing but prevent you from moving on; it will forever be a wound in your side that your enemies will gladly abuse. You should never think that you are alone in your misery; there are many lost souls out there, and the only things preventing them from finding their place is their own guilt. You would do well to settle down and find a safe place. Do as I do and avoid calling attention to yourselfs. I'll be glad if I can help."

Djedkare stifled a groan as this 16-year-old angel boasted of how he apparently commanded the armies of the nation he let get destroyed. Djedkare merely leaned forward and toussled Jack's hair.

"Sure ya are, boy. Sure ya are. If ya need me t' dry yer tears an' tell you it's okay t' cry about yer parents, my room number is 212. That's floor 2, just down the hall from the soda machine. Try not t' talk about yer 'exploits' as an angel, boy, this place is fulla parasites an' maneaters. Th' reck'nin' is comin', boy, and you'd best know whose side yer on."

At that, Djedkare stepped away from the bar, and headed into the crowd, looking for a better conversation. The crowd was thick with thralls, still enthusiastically carrying out their mistress's last orders. Some were settled in the pool, others shakily danced and drank from empty glasses, and still others were making a concentrated effort to simulate flirting with one another. Already, the crowd at the pool was showing signs of wear and tear; their fingers were wrinkled as raisins, and their eyes were bloodshot from chlorine exposure.

Djedkare spotted a strange figure in the crowd, one who held his mental faculties in high esteem. This one was wearing a gaudy pimp coat with traditional Japanese garb underneath. The contrast between purple felt and white silk made for a sight that would be impossible to miss. Djedkari smiled from ear to ear, and embraced Kakutoku Sha warmly.
"It is good to see even a Theban in these trying times! Tell me, kind priest, how goes your relations with the savages of the Mediterranean?"

Cain quietly shoved the letter that he'd received into his pocket and gave a slight, knowing nod to Alcaeus. "That bit of business aside..." He rumbled in a voice to deep even for someone that looked as he did before clearing his throat, "You seem like the kind of guy who's well acquainted with the country life. I've always been a bit of a nature boy myself, but besides the odd camping or hiking trip I don't really get to enjoy nature as much as i'd like since Florida gets a lot more tourists than i'm comfortable with dealing with. What's it like?".

-jack walked off and out the bar and went to a bench outside near the pool and pulls out a book from his travel pack and begins to read as reading helps make jack feel better-
