Like I said, they are pagan in origin, and no one knows the true dates. And most Christians can't decipher the difference between paganism and Christianity. They slap a christian title on it and call it Christian.

Plus if you call yourself a Christian, it should be something you think about and celebrate all the time.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. Yeah, they don't know the exact date (and first Sunday of April isn't a constant date anyway), but as Idle said, it's more about the spirit of the thing. Their religious text says Jesus died, and came back to life three days later. It's an important part of their scripture. So they set a regular time of year to celebrate it. Same thing with Christmas.

As for thinking about it and celebrating it all the time, what does that even mean? Make every day a religious holiday for them?

@KeysOfKayesOkay, the point I'm trying to make is this shouldn't be a holiday Christians should celebrate because of it's origin. And no, not everyday should be a holiday to celebrate. It shouldn't just be a single Sunday of the year where you deeply consider the Resurrection of your risen savior, it's something you meditate and think about always and something that you honor and take pride in. Am I making any sense here?

@JsterI see what what you mean.

Every day of the Week in the 365 day year is a holiday of someone's religion, cult or tribe.

Easter is Christian and Christmas is Christian.

If you want to talk about origins stupidly, part of the U.S Revolution from Britain stems from the rudeness of an American shop keeper who crudely offered a British soldier the job of cleaning the outhouse.

The U.S Revolutionary War was about being a butt hole. Just like Easter is Pagan, or Christmas is Pagan.

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox, it was decided upon by the Catholic Church. Some Christians see the Catholics as little more than pagans themselves.

The way I look at it is, God is not the author of confusion, as the Good Book says. Catholicism complicates things, by adding Sacraments, Limbo, Purgatory, repetitive chants, and an un-necessary priesthood, and a whole bunch of other controversial things like the Eucharist literally being Jesus'es body and blood. That's just gross, and I feel dumb for ever believing it like that.

I still celebrate communion, but I see it as "Communion", not "The Eucharist". If you are someone who is from a Church that accepts Jesus as your Savior, you're saved and most of the congregants are probably saved. If you take the Clergy and then Tradition over or even in conjunction with the Bible, that's not Godly.

So, "God is not the author of confusion". My Catholic friends, I'm not saying you're Pagan, I"m saying that you're in a Church of confusion. God and confusion shouldn't blend together like that. The word of God is something that kills ignorance.

The Catholic church is a lot older than another Christian sects and they incorporated a lot of pagan ritual, gods and goddess replaced with saints and holidays given Christian overtones. All in an effort to convert and be accepted by non Christian folk. Destroying idols and burning holy writing is one thing but you can't take beloved holidays from people, that's just crossing the line.

For the record, I was raised Catholic, am now agnostic.

The Catholic Church being old as the Dinosaurs, even older than any other Christian sect doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

I supppose you would believe it literally is as old as the dinosaurs.

I never said they're right, just saying where the modern Christianized pagan holidays came from.

You're missing the point. She's explaining why, historically/sociologically/anthropologically, Catholicism is a big melting pot of rituals and practices that seem to 'cloud' the message. It all makes sense given the compromises that had to be made to convert so many different cultures in Europe.

In all honesty it's about the content of the holiday not really the date. Like Christmas is really just the celebration of his birth, honestly it could be any date and be the same holiday give or take.

Just so happens it was easy to replace a winter feast with Birthday.

Oh okay. Thank you. Most of the time when I hear people talk like this it's like I'm a Saxon castle servant being chided by the Norman aristocracy.
