1) Then you could just fly past outside of normal spacetime. FTL jammers are worthless, as is the mine field. I certainly can't attack something in a dimension I can't access. And warp drive doesn't remove you from real space, except in Star Trek, it just moves space around you. Hyperdrive would, but I can't access hyperspace. The field would have to be laid out as a continuous field, and prevent passing or slow down ships that pass through it to be of any use.
For example, Interdictors in Star Wars produce a gravity well that prevents hyperdrives from activating. They are used to block ships from jumping away from battle and to make them revert to normal space when they enter an area. If they couldn't pull ships out of hyperspace they couldn't be used to block starship travel through certain areas.

Yeah, warp drives absolutely can't move through this field while FTL, they are slowed down to just below lightspeed or whatever speed the ship was traveling at without spatial manipulation.
Hyperdrives and such can possibly avoid this by the fact they only touch the field when they exit to real space.
Though the field may also cover its share in hyperspace and such but even then they can just project a route around the field to reach their destination.

Use that mirror to counterattack.
And it's more like you can follow their route through hyperspace if you have the technology.
Warp-capable ships are even easier to fight because you can still target them even if they move faster now.

This doesn't mention whether it's in a star system or interstellar space. Now that I know that, though, I can alter my plan for use in interstellar space.

I didn't know that's what you meant by "open space battle". I thought you were being metaphorical, as in "do whatever you want."
Also, don't know if it will effect my ship cost, but tachyons interact very weakly with dark matter. It only shows up at long range if you have a lot of dark matter, like a nebula or a dreadnaught. Smaller ships can't be detected as far away while cloaked.

Alright, there might be other players who are in this game but they are far from ready.
For starters 2-2 players should be enough.
Others can join in the battle around the middle as reinforcements if they finish their profiles during the meantime.
Which means now I'm only waiting for@TheUnknowable to make his fleet profile.

7th Sector Defense Force

FPA


Description


Stationed in the Arcanis system, the 7th Sector Defense Force is responsible for protecting the people of the area against pirates and more serious military incursions. Unlike many other defense forces, it does not contain militia ships, allowing it to operate in deep space for extended periods of time.
The fleet is commanded by Admiral Zao, a former bodyguard of the richest man on Arcanis. When his contract with the man ended, the SSS reassigned him as a frigate commander. His skill and talent quickly raised him to the position of Admiral. He was placed in charge of the 7th sector defense force when the SSS joined the FPA. He was then assigned to help defend the border.

Anyways, I made the first IC post a while ago.
At first I wished to detail all the complex things the fleet did to penetrate the neutral zone.
But that'd have taken too much.

To be brief, the neutral zone has bunch of well hidden sensors that are connected to a warning system.
Said warning travels at FTL speeds towards specific points in the border. In these points the FTL jammers don't block the transmission so it can travel normally to a relay which is surrounded by FTL jammers at the distance from anywhere but one direction. Then it received by the next relay the next and the next until it penetrated the borders. This method also ensures that enemy ships can't just use their FTL through the borders even though there are openings in the FTL jammers.
There are also mines and defense systems which were allowed within the neutral zone if they follow some painfully exact criterias.
So bypassing the neutral zone was not easy and especially not without allowing detection.
The reason the Dominion did is because they mapped out the neutral zone and also bribed a number of people to sabotage the defenses.
Nothing too large-scale so this action won't make the Allies suspect anything.

Anyways, now waiting for @WilsonTurner to post.
I want to see how would his fleet react here.
I know, I know. No information on the defense net yet, but his post would not feature the attack still.
I'll start the actual battle with my next post.
