I'd suggest it be something where he would've believed he was doing the right thing and performing his duty right up to the point where she revealed he'd been played. It all depends on exactly what it was that got stolen, its importance to his people and just how much of an idiot he looked when everyone realised what had happened.

Of course, there's also the option that no-one back home knows the item has been stolen yet, and he's in a mad chase to recover it quickly so he can replace it before his mistake is discovered. Again that would give him reason to be part of the team, as he'd be there following her.
@SimplyJohn

Very clever. I'll wait and see what @Kalas says though.
Given that his character is now an outlaw from his people, maybe he was just following her not for his government/reputation anymore, but more for personal revenge. She did cause him to loose his rank and reputation by playing him like a sci-fi fiddle after all. Probably some shame over being seduced as well? I'll wait and see what @Kalas thinks or if he has other ideas.

@Kalas
Given that his character is now an outlaw from his people...

Okay, stick with me here, 'cos this one's really messy. Mez's parents were killed as traitors, leaving him as a ward of the Lords indirectly responsible for their deaths. What if the treason they'd committed had something to do with helping smuggle Thuboisii through Visipian space? That would mean that Mez's rivalry was more to do with a deeper hatred of her people rather than against Marga herself, at least at first. It would also mean that the Visipians would have to be portrayed as more xenophobic than initially described, but this could always be included as part of the religious mania.

After he'd learnt the truth of his parents' fate and fled to the mercenary outpost he crossed paths with Marga and after performing a few merc jobs together, where he acted as cover for her more subtle forms of combat, the two became lovers. It wasn't until they'd been 'warping the frontier' together for a while that Mez discovered Marga's mixed race heritage and found himself repulsed at the thought of having soiled himself with a Thuboisii halfbreed. In a fit of rage he tried to kill Marga, only for her to escape him and disappear from his life.

Now, after many years apart, the ill-fated couple find themselves drawn together again, and Mez must come to terms with his feelings for his former paramour. Will he be able to overcome his racial hatred for his former lover, finally being able to accept her as she is, or will his ingrained hatred of her people drive his to make another attempt on her life?

And my having re-watched Code Geass recently and just remembered Villetta/Chigusa and Ohgi's relationship had nothing to do with me making this suggestion. By the way, if you haven't seen that anime I'd recommend it.

Love it! I'll see what @Kalas thinks, but I'm sold. The only thing I would add is that after he tried to kill her, she stole valuables from him and let any enemies they had made together know of his whereabouts. There are probably still items in her possession, or that she knows the location to, which she took from him which he wants back.

@Kalas What do you think?

Psycho ex-girlfriends, eh? Gotta love 'em, or you'll wake up one morning to find your pet bunny served as breakfast.

Which links back to your previous idea about her goggles, perhaps?

To be fair to Marga, considering he attempted to murder her, he got off pretty lightly. Hence why she's not so much the pyscho ex-girlfriend and he's more the pyscho ex-boyfriend! ;)

And yes, the goggles could work.

So for insertion, does the shuttle have a docking tube or something that can connect to and pressurize an airlock (assuming there's still pressure inside the ship)? If so we could just blast open the hole,go in, and find something suitably airlock doorish to plug the hole.

Or see if the ship still magicly has power and just land in the docking bay, that's cool too.

@Kalas Marga's skin does turn blue with in tractate patterning when she expierences extrems of emotions, but maybe Mez just chalked that up to something else.

The shuttle has a docking tube, yes. Whether it'll be compatible with the Lone Star or not is something you'll have to test. Also getting that close to the ship could be a little tricky and Felix may not be the pilot for the job.

It's a good idea but in the time they were together is it really plausible she never felt anger, fear, arousal, etc? Maybe Mez discovered her heritage when he met her brother, who could be a lot more Thuboisii looking than her? @Kalas thoughts?

Shit, is it already too late to get my character up?

Damn you people who type up characters faster than I can blink!

Well, if it isn't, here he is.

Name: James "JR" Rourke

Race: Human

Appearance: James is a pretty slender guy, standing at 5'10" and weighing 148 lbs. He has fairly attractive features; well-toned muscles, nice mid-length brown hair, green eyes, a shapely chin, and attractive facial features in general. He also looks pretty young, for thirty, and while he may look attractive, he also has a consistent look of annoyance or lack of giving a shit, which tends to repel some people.

Personality: In a nutshell, James has a very devil-may-care attitude, mixed in with blunt honesty, sarcasm, and a touch of jaded withdrawal.

Skills:
-Expert Weapons Engineering
-Skilled Mechanics
-Skilled Close Quarters Operations
-Amateur Hacking

Equipment:
-YF12 Blaster Pistol: A standard pistol used by many privateers, it functions by concentrating electrons into a plasma-like bolt of energy. It is powered by interchangeable power cells which function like magazines, containing enough power for anywhere between 45 and 55 bolts, depending on the quality of the cell. The YF12 has a fairly low range due to the nature of it's shots, with the bolts typically losing their efficacy between 50 and 60 meters and dissipating at 75 meters. They inflict fairly high damage, are pretty accurate, have low recoil, and a moderate rate of fire.

-KA76 Submachine Gun: A somewhat older design, the KA76 functions similar to a blaster, but instead uses physical ammunition consisting of ceramic flechettes containing a plasmoid liquid which is charged in the firing process and converted into pure plasma. The casing contains the charge far better than the YF12, resulting in better range, though it suffers in inflicting damage. It does, however, have a very high rate of fire, decent accuracy, very low recoil, and a magazine capacity of 120 rounds, making it ideal for close quarters.

-Weapons Maintenance Kit: "The Leo-tec advanced weapons maintenance kit contains all the tools you'll need to fix any gun, anywhere, anytime. Replacement parts sold separately."

-M23 Standard Headset and Uplink: An earpiece/headband which acts as a communicator, as well as relays vital information to the user's eyepiece. Typically used in squads where tactical information may be needed in a fraction of a second.

Bio: James was born and raised on Halloran, a cold planet inhabited by several different races. While civilized, the planet was also small and sparsely populated, and thus quite boring. There was never any sort of danger, and James was having none of that shit. He wanted to get out and explore the fringes of known space, and when he reached the age of 17 he got an opportunity to join the Sol Alliance Navy with the guarantee that he would be on an exploration vessel.

During training, he became enthralled with the mechanics of modern weaponry. Although he was trained as a CQC specialist to begin with, he was soon switched over to the position of weapons specialist, and within weeks he knew everything about the Alliance's small arms, along with several other weapons built by private manufacturers. When his training was finished, he was placed onboard a light expedition vessel. He and his crew marked several planets for future colonization, encountering all sorts of hostile wildlife, and on one occasion, a band of pirates.

After doing this for seven years or so, James began to actually get bored. Even exploring planets seemed to become nothing more than just going through the motions. Land here, shoot anything with teeth the size of your arm, drop some beacons and survey probes, maintain the squad's weapons, extract from the planet, repeat. Maybe it was the idea of procedure that put James off. He wanted more unpredictability, which he got when he left the Navy and became a privateer. He began to help on explorations with random people rather than a government entity, and that helped make things a bit more fun, but it still was basically the same thing as before. Still, it allowed him to build a reputation as someone who could handle himself and was virtually without fear, not to mention he knew his way around a gun more than pretty much anyone else. In his days of exploring, he never went a day without having his curiosity satisfied, but he went nearly every day without any real excitement.

When he heard about the appearance of the long-missing Lone Star, and that a crew was being assembled to enter the ship, he was more than interested in checking it out. This time, hopefully, he could satisfy both his curiosity and his need for some adrenaline.

Regardless, considering Sevyn is still an expert pilot and has studied a variety of ships extensively, would Felix allow her to pilot the ship and would she know whether the shuttle and the Lone Star be compatible?

Still on the introductions phase of the adventure so you can squeeze in under the wire. Not sure why Felix didn't have you on the crew roster, probably just a military clerical error. A bit like the Invasion of Proxima Centaurii II (which was supposed to have been the Invasion of Proxima Centauri III.)

Regardless, considering Sevyn is still an expert pilot and has studied a variety of ships extensively, would Felix allow her to pilot the ship and would she know whether the shuttle and the Lone Star be compatible?

Might need a little sweet talking for Felix to give up his stick. As for knowing the Lone Star's docking configuration, are there any engineers in the party who could make a guess?

Hate to be picky, but a privateer works under the marque of a government, and would be working as a raider. Sounds more like he was a freebooter or a rogue trader by the description you've given of his activities.

Why do I get the impression there should be a 'BOOM' between the second and third quote? :P

@SimplyJohn I may have missed something here, but where's your character??

I'm not playing a specific character, but acting as an overall narrator and speaking for various NPCs you may run into. More a hands off GM role than a participant.
