Hey all! I was wondering how much interest I'd get in a game of mafia. For those who haven't played before, several people within the group are secretly the "mafia", and they kill off one person each night. The group then has to vote on someone to kill off the next day, someone who they think is the mafia. Mafia wins if they outnumber the villagers, and villagers win if all the mafia are dead.

In this iteration, we all take the role of a character and roleplay out our days. The GM controls all things through PM. The mafia vote on a person to kill each night, and the GM describes the scene of their death which the villagers will witness. The universe we are in will probably be a small modern-day town, though if this receives enough interest we can change up the theme (example, I've played a Zelda-themed one). We might also add other power roles (doctor, cop, specialized mafia).

Anyway, let me know what you think. I'd like at least 7 people to play, though we can make do with less if we need.

There is this online game called Town of Salem, which is basicly mafia with new roles. I would love to see a forum version of it.

Yeah, we could totally do a Salem themed game. I play another one quite often with user-generated roles, and some of the games get quite ridiculous, but fun nonetheless.

Consider my interest piqued. I would assume that we shouldn't let our secret identities slip, even in the narration of our IC posts, yes? That would make the most sense to me.

Yeah, there's a lot of metagaming involved, so you should do your absolute best to seem innocent.

That's six out of seven needed for the standard game! If we don't get another, I can bump down a role, though it won't be as fun.

For those interested, the standard game consist of 3 villagers, 2 mafia, 1 cop (can investigate one person each night and determine if they are mafia or not), and 1 doctor (picks one person a night to save. If that person is targeted by the mafia, they will remain alive). Generally you do not tell anyone what your role is, because the mafia will kill you very quick.

Count me in, but does this involve some RP? Just asking.

@Urbanliner Yeah, but the RPing is minor. You can do whatever you want with it. Generally people make a character, then just talk with the other characters to try and weed out the guilty ones. Character appearance is important because the GM (me) can describe their death in very graphic ways :D

General strategy is for the mafia to pretend to be a different role to make the actual innocent people seem guilty, since there is no way to prove your role.

If you guys don't want to RP, we can put this in a different category and do everything out of character. Up to you though, I figured most people would want to RP since it is an RP forum.

RPing it sounds like it would be different and fun. I've played Mafia games but have never actually RPed during it.

@Animus Yep! We can always add more. We'll start with a basic game, and if everyone wants another round I'll switch up the roles.
