The Gate

Your knowledge of battles and talents in combat will prove invaluable to your men. Your dreams of a grand campagin are coming into fruition, and who better to lead the men than you, an respectable and imposing representation of the ideal German.

You now find yourself in front of an audience watch you in awe. You are a war hero, but you may not be the best orator, preferring action to words, but if you wish to make a good first impression it will have to be done.

What do?

Felix cleared his throat uncomfortably, and readjusted the collar of his uniform. He recognized a few of the men in the audience, old COs and brothers-in-arms, but he also saw a sea of men and women of high power that he didn't know.
"Thank you for your applause, I'm glad to be leading this mission and hope to bring glory to the Reich. I feel a twang of disappointment whenever I realize I won't be fighting here, at home in Europe, but it is overshadowed by the sense of duty and possibility of finding something greater while on this mission." The dining hall remained quite "For the Reich and for us all!"

Sage nods of agreement and silent respect were given to Felix. It wasn't a fanatical or blood pumping speech, and while the more influential and high ranking audience members seemed unimpressed, your humility and subtle patriotism is well received by your subordinates. You stoically step down from the podium, the staff giving you their earnest support while the command staff give a few smatterings of applause as you finish up.

[+1 Influence with underlings]

You have some time to converse with any group before your departure and you are left with a few options. You think back to who you wish to talk with. The staff? See if anything is going on. Perhaps butter up the command staff, or maybe head to the pub for the last bit of socialization with the crews and soldiers?

Felix walked over to the man he would be answering to on his mission and began chatting with him, and generally getting to know him better. (I don't know if my commander and I have a relationship or not, but if not I will take this time to establish one with him)

Ah yes, Himler himself. The slightly pudgy man was held in high regard as the fuhrer's right hand. You converse with him on the intricacies of the mission. What you and your men need as well as any counter measure for any potential threats. Your talks of your plans brighten his eyes and pique his interests, he will surely do his best to provide further support.

[+1 Requisition Slot per month]

After your conversation your men are now on the last leg of preperations, you and your command staff have designated the supplies for the first trip:

>xx%(25% standard) Military Goods
>xx%(25% standard)Civilian Goods
>xx%(25% standard) Medical Supplies
>xx%(25% standard) Infrastructure Materiel
-----
100%

and the base expedition group will be:

>[ ] One Squad of SS Commandos.
>[ ] 40 Wehrmacht infantrymen. These are broken down into 5 squads of 8, including a medic and a machine gunner, as well as submachine gun soldiers and riflemen.
>[ ] 10 Opel Blitz light trucks, carrying ammunition, medical supplies, and fuel.
>[ ] 4 Krupp Protze heavy trucks, carrying the above, in addition to heavier construction materials and supplies.
>[ ] 4 Sd.Kfz. 251with machine guns, towing a pair of FlaK 38.
>[ ] 2 Sd.Kfz. 247
>[ ] 1 Panzer IV tank

in addition, two requisitioned groups(in any combination or duplicates) instead of the usual one for your diligence with Himler:
>[ ] Three squads of elite SS Commandos, five men each with body armor and heavy weaponry.
>[ ] Two squads of a dozen Combat Engineers each, able to quickly erect fortifications and assist in military constructions.
>[ ] An extra pair of Panzer IV tanks, with a fuel truck to go with them.

Make your choices yah little bitch. Ill post the final choices to the character sheet and edit that as we go.

Felix hoped they wouldnt need too many medical supplies for the first month, but he did know they would need infrastructure. The engineers would be useful in construction and the Panzer IVs would be invaluable if what the Project documents told him.

There you are. The preparations are ready the troops are eager. A great flash of light appears as the scientist initiate a switch and the Gate opens up. A horrendous and hellish swirl of mute colors make up the opening, a visible amount of your troops are now hesitant to enter. Even some veterans are apprehensive. Shall you give a speech to bolster their morale as you plunge into the new world?

Speaking of which, the location you will embark for will immediately be(your men will be dressed and geared appropriately):

>A desolate desert, with but a single oasis by the portal
>A frigid tundra by what appears to be a frozen lake, snow and ice are abound. Frostbite and hypothermia will be your greatest enemy.
>An imposing mountain depression. The portal is surrounded by high mountain walls, the soil around you is craggy, and no immediate water sources is seen.
>Rolling plains. Tall grasses as far as the eye can see, a few trees are seen dotting across the landscape and a river runs perpendicular to the portal.
>A forest clearing. Tall redwoods surround the portal, and a bubbling creek cascades through.
>Other? What did you see through he Goliath drone sentries?

The flickering portal gazes into the rolling planes, grass up to a mans chest gazing back in some parts.

Felix looked around at his men, many of them nervous and mumbling now. The Mauser Kar98k slung across his back shifted as he pulled his MP40 from his side, away from its sling. In a well rehearsed move he loudly pulled the slide back and chambered a round before taking a breath and then a step. "Let's not keep this place waiting then" Felix said as he stepped through the portal, a warm wind immediately brushing over him.

Lesser men would have surely trembled at the wake of the portal, but you were not lesser men, you are a proud member of the aryan race; let the untermensch squabble and cower in fear, for it was you and your proud men that will venture into the unknown.

Your calm demeanor sets an example for your men. They know what they signed up for and will have to deal with it, the effects of which are now apparent: while the more experienced veterans understand their duty and admire your resolve the greenhorns and noncombatants still fear the unknown, and your quiet speech does little to assuage their fears.

You step through the imposing gates, and just as quickly as you step in a shiver is sent down your spine before you find yourself in the new world. A lazy but major river runs in front of you(better go catch it) and the tall grasses shroud the remaining countryside. The soil is fertile and soft, and there is an abundance of water, but you suspect building materials will be needed to be imported to have this base survive. You continue forward as your men trickle through.

As the last few saunter in, a quick head count is taken, 4 men, half a squad is missing, and after conferencing with the otherwise, you find they were indeed lost mid transit. It is to be expected with such experimental technology. Your command tent is hastily erected, but more permanent buildings are required.

Your men are ready, what do?

Felix looked around for the missing men, 4 Wehrmacht recruits. He cursed under his breath before taking a better look at his surroundings. The combat engineers had already begun taking the supplies off of the trucks to begin construction. He quickly detailed what he wanted and ordered the head engineer, Herman Von Hosendor a grizzled veteran that was a digger during the great war. Herman went on to become a successful Engineer and Felix had handpicked the man to lead the engineers.

The base was to be the command center and motor pool adjacent,at the back of the facility, with the messhall, living quarter and makeshift lab to be across a foyer that would be about 150 feet on the left side of the facility. A storage bay would line the right, all surrounded by a wooden wall supplemented by light metal watch towers that would be movable if needed. The final side (front) was left open, but eventually a wall and gate would be added, but for now the Panzers and light vehicles would be able to leave unhindered.

Once Felix explained the layout of the facility Herman began planning the building, claiming it could be finished in 1 week, 4 days if all the Wehrmacht helped (Which they would) and until then the men would live in tents. The SS squad would set out on a scouting mission, led by Felix, for the surrounding area, with the troop carriers and armored cars ready to leave if any hostile forces were engaged.

Your men begin their work, you delegate the engineers to act as heads and advisers to construction teams while the Wehrmacht assist. The latrines are quickly dug while wooden privacy walls are erected, its simple, but will give your men some sense of security as when they do their business, of you have implemented any sort of plumbing yet. Meanwhile the living quarters will also be made of wood, the grass uprooted for a simple dirt floor. You skimped a bit on civilian supplies but you have brought simple metal bunk-beds and communal lockers as furnishings. Also the foundations for the concrete and metal command post and motor pool are being laid out and construction will begin soon, for now the vehicles will remain in the open.

For defenses you don't expect the enemy to be using artillery or fire arms so you forgo the traditional trenches and foxholes in favor of the immediate construction of a metal watch tower and wooden palisades. Hans offers that the fixed guns need their own operating emplacements as well as the some surrounding grasslands to be cut or burned down(controlled of course) to provide a clean and unbroken line-of-sight, adds it to the queue.

You still have ample supplies so you don't immediately delegate workers to production. The generators will be held under tents while the motor-pool is constructed.

Herman does exemplary work directing engineers and soldiers alike, while the head of the SS Commandos, one Lt. Kaiser prepares his men to accompany you. Honestly, Kaiser is a respectable and formidable soldier, but his demeanor is opposite of yours, he is loud-mouthed and rather sadistic, but his skills are indispensable.

You elect to lead the SS scout party, there are some mumbles of "Wehrmacht brute," and "flat footed meat-head," but the Kaiser quickly shushes them as you approach. Its true you aren't the most subtle soldier, and would probably be more suited to open combat than a scouting party, but you press forward.

Fortunately there are no actual contacts in the surrounding area, but you find a abandoned stone tower in a state of disrepair. Its design is similar to Roman outposts in the frontier. Its a singular tower, surrounded by walls and with a building meant to be what you assume to be the living area. Your scout squad explores the ruin and finds nothing much. Broken steel longswords are on some racks, beyond repair. Some storage crates, missed by would-be bandits contain 5 sets of armor, the leather is a bit worn and frayed but, its intricately made, metal is layered upon each other and is reminscant of Roman legionair armor if it incorporated tradional medieval plate. These would be an excellent trophy for the Reich, but they are rather heavy and would impede progress.

>Radio for a pickup crew

Felix looks at the armor, armor that at one point would've made a man strong. He ordered for an armored car to come and take them back, a quick trip that would help show off the possible treasures of this new world. They moved the crate to the entrance and continued on their way, the radio operator giving a nod of completion.

You radio for a light truck and some men to pick up the crate. After relaying the coordinates you start to head off again this time heading West of the base. To the distance you see thick black smoke rising above the grass. Clearly the remnants of a fire now smoldering. You find this odd as the plains are quite dry and would have indeed caused a wild fire. Kaiser offers that someone might have cleared a patch of grass and built upon it, probably a small village which would generally mean people. However the remnants of a fire may suggest that they may not be in steller conditions.

You head towards the village. It's deathly quiet, the usual sound of the plains are all but silent. Kaiser motions his troops to remain quiet, following your lead. That said you aren't the most quiet individual and your giant steps are noticeable in the quiet atmosphere. Again, you are fortunate not be actually stalking anything.

You arrive at the village, and it is what you expected, it's been raided. The primitive nomadic tents are toppled, torn and burning. Mutilated and charred corpses of all sizes and genders litter the ground. Even you and the SS squad are a bit perturbed by this scene.

Slaughter was not an uncommon thing in Felix's profession, but this was different. Human (or human like) corpses were everywhere. They'd search for survivors in the area. He looked back to the S.S. and quickly motioned for them to continue, and to stay ready.

To you killing civilians and noncombatants is the most dishonorable and cowardly act any soldier can take. Of course you can't say the same for the SS. You begin trudging through, turning over tents and crates rooting around for survivors. Kaiser and his men are efficient, splitting off into 3 groups of 2, you and Kaiser are paired.

Half a hour into the search a pair comes running towards you. They report a group of men wielding swords are fighting off tall furry beasts with great axes. The men were reported to be backed into a a overturned cart, of which the screams of women and children can be heard from.

>Well!? What are you waiting for get in there!
>Regroup first, then dash in guns a blazing
>Ere on the side of caution, regroup and sneak ambush
>cContact? Let's not, we can't afford to lose men for others.

"Form a defensive position and move up on them, these natives could be key in establishing a foothold here" Felix said preparing his MP40 and moving towards the fight. "Be careful, I doubt they have firearms but watch for bows, and don't get stuck in we need to be swift and deadly" He quickly said as they hustled towards the fight.

Glory to the Reich, the 4 men currently assembled make haste to assist the men from the beasts. You charge in guns on full cylinders. The beasts are caught unawares as automatic gunfire from you and Kaisers' MPs and they quickly turn to face the new and loud threat. Your fire volume is immense from a distance but you underestimated the resilience of the beasts. Great many wounds impact their broad chests but they keep charging their feral charge, it takes well aimed shots from the Kar98s to bring them down. A few go down but several are closing the distance quickly. The MPs just don't have the stopping power and the mausers cannot fire quickly enough, and the SS with the MG36 isn't with you. However you are men of the Reich, proud soldiers if the modern era, and your skills with grenades are unmatched. You instruct your men to lob their grenades. The ordinances explode under the feet of the grouped enemies, taking a vast majority out. Still, a few make closer and at that range the MPs shred them, but one of them, bloodied, reaches an SS and attempts to cleave him with a overhead strike. The man has the smarts to dodge it rather than block it with his rifle, but his calf is knicked before the rest of the guns finally finish the beast.

The dust settles and you count the number of beasts slain, 2 dozen rabble died to your superior fire power. To the distance one of the men clutches at the still body of his comrade.

9mm bullets couldn't stop the beasts from 40 meters, but they did a damn good job at 15. He slid a fresh magazine into his now empty machinepisol, and was about to give an order when the rest of the S.S. burst through the trees. "We need to get these men back to the gate FOB, someone radio for a armored truck, surgeon and field medic"

The S.S. have their doubts he heard a voice in his head so

So let them He heard another respond.
