Soul Eater SCAR

Episode One: Meet and Greet,
A New Class at the DWMA?!

"Hiya, how's it going? Starting today, you're going to be enrolling in the highest specialized class the DWMA has to offer! Alongside your classmates, you're going to train hard so that you can defend Death City during an attack. Remember, always be prepared! Now, off to class with you, c'ya!"

SCAR Class. This is where you'll be spending the rest of your time in the DWMA. The classroom looks exactly like every other classroom in the building, but you can feel something more to it, as if the air inside is pressing on your soul. Somehow your abilities are being reigned in, pushed back. Before you can really worry about it, a tall man walks in with a folder under one arm.

"Sit down, it doesn't matter where. I'm taking attendance." He opens the file and starts calling off names without even pausing between long enough for anybody to respond. When he gets to the end of the list, he shuts the folder with finality and drops it on the desk at the front.

"My name is Kain. You will adress me as Kain, or if you must, Mr. Kain. I am one of the two teachers you will have in this classroom. I expect everybody to be on time, in their seats when I walk in the door. Any questions so far?" Again, without waiting for a response, he turns to the chalkboard and writes four words on it.

"You are the SCAR Class. You are being specially trained as a last line of defense for Academy City. I will teach you the skills you need, and you will take those skills and forge them into a shield." He drops his chalk onto the desk and finally pauses in his lecturing.

"Do you have anything to add?"

Kalinda headed to class, noticing that it was a new room, and that while it looked the same as any other classroom, it felt...different. She didn't know if she liked it or not, but she hastened to a seat, sitting down and looked down at the desk in front of her.

Kalinda didn't even notice that there was no space to announce that she was hear as Kain spoke.. when she heard her name, she just went "Here", without even looking up from her desk. Her red hair fell over her face, like a curtain, hiding it really. She was here, because she needed to be, and that was all.

She wanted answers.

As the teacher continued on with the lesson, Kalinda lifted her head, watching as he wrote on the board. It seemed like an old practice, that writing on the board. Wouldn't it just be easy to speak? She shook her head, keeping her opinions to herself. What did she care? She looked about at her classmates, to see their reactions to the class so far.

She sighed softly, looking back to the front, and as Kain asked if anyone had any questions, she raised her hand, and said without waiting to be acknowledged "What's with this room? It feels different to our other classrooms" Her voice, when she spoke like this, slightly louder then normal volume to be heard, was clear, and just slightly demanding, as if she wasn't so much asking a question, but trying to pull the answer out of the teacher. When she spoke, there was a slight accent to her voice that could have been half a dozen different accents.

Regan stepped cautiously into the room, when she did enter. She could tell something was strange, standing at the threshold. Like she was about to step into a room with someone playing inside. As she crossed the threshold, she became aware of a muffling over her... what did they call it? Soul Perception?

She sat down promptly, letting the man who was to be their teacher take charge. The man left no room for responses, so Regan gave none, except when called for roll. Replied with a "hai" and a raised hand. When at last he did motion for anyone to speak, a classmate spoke. "You noticed it, too? The strange presence in the room... no, of the room."

"I have my own question, as well." Her English is careful, but clear. She sounds just a little German, actually. "NOT students were selected for this class, right? To be specially trained to be the City's emergency defense? Why?"

The teacher raised his hand, two fingers up. Lowering his middle finger, he said "One: This room has been built specifically for this class. The air is laced with Kyukon water, which steadily drains your soul wavelength. Most of you should have no issue with the low concentration, but if someone blacks out and I don't notice, tell me immediately."

Raising his finger again, he added "Two: Each and every one of you was hand picked for this class. Whether you were in NOT or EAT, it doesn't matter, Lord Death saw something about you that makes you special. You don't have to be strong, you have to become strong. That is why I was chosen to teach you."

Lowering his hands to the table again, he gazed over the classroom. "Anybody else?"

Dimitri quietly took his seat in the second row of the seats available. For a few moments the teen fidgeted uncomfortably in the chair as he awkwardly attempted to work out a way to fit his bulk comfortably in the piece of furniture before finally settling for just being able to actually sit at all. He like the other students did not get the chance to answer for roll call, however this didn't particularly bother him. Dimitri remained silent until the teacher had addressed the questions of two students and, seeing an opportunity to actually ask something he considered important, gave a soft cough. After the cough Dimitri raised his hand a bit uncertainly, "Um...if I may ask..." he began in a tone much softer than to be expected of someone of his appearance, "What exactly will we be acting as a defense force against? Also, how will our meister and weapon teams be assigned?".

Dimitri slowly brought his hand back down onto the desk and proceeded to twiddle his thumbs together and stare at the teacher's shoes rather than make actual eye contact with him, only an occasional glance upward was made to ensure that he would actually have his question addressed. Interacting with anyone that wasn't his mother, father, or trainer was a bit nerve wracking. It was at times like these that Dimitri wondered what on earth his father had been thinking to have sent him all the way to Nevada of all places. The old man's intentions had been good enough, but the sudden change in scenery and the unfamiliarity had only served to exacerbate Dimitri's social anxieties.

Fearing a bit of backlash for what could potentially be considered a stupid question, Dimitri offered up a meek apology to Kain for wasting his time, though he still quietly hoped that his questions would actually be answered.

Ju-Long

Walking casually with his usual energetic smile, Ju-Long walked to his new classroom. Wonder why the change of class he thought.
Think they know?
But brother has been protecting us. His even helped us strengthen our souls and also compress our wavelengths.
It will be fine, I'm here for you right?
Brother will take care of things, we will be right beside you bro!

His soul was projecting as always, larger than he needed to, if he were ordinary. As he reached the classroom he paused. Kyukon water. Don't worry about compressing your soul waves. Wouldn't want you guys to be harmed because of it. I know we use it a lot to help you guys, but just be alert A suddenly serious tone echoed in him. Are they going to do something bad to us?
Don't worry Ya. Everything will be fine.

Stepping in, Ju-Long had his soul expand, but it was dampened by the kyukon water in the air. In the end, it was the same he found his seat and waited quietly, with his "enthusiasm". The teacher walked in, his name was Kain. He gave a roll call, with no time to reply by the students. Nonetheless the students replied, Ju-Long did likewise when his name was called.

Question time came, the other students, two girls, asked Kain about what was going on and why they were chosen. Kain answered succinctly. Another person asked a question, he was behind Ju-Long. A big, and well built guy towered behind Ju-Long, but his tone was soft. Either kind or not very good at socializing He commented about the guy behind him.
Ju-long then asked a question "Hey Kain! Why the Kyukon water in the air, and will the concentration increase as lessons progress?" He had an answer to these questions, but he wanted to be sure. Gonna be using more Kyukon at home from now on you two, okay?
Yes brother!
Sure
The two obediently agreed and answered at the same time.

He waited for the teacher to answer and move on from question time. While waiting, he leaned back and looked up to the guy behind him. "Yo! Name's Ju-Long. Nice to meet you! Hope to get along!" Ju-Long spoke in his usual energetic and carefree manner. He waited for a reply, and eventually, leaned back forward and looked at the teacher.

Kalinda sighed softly, and leaned back in her chair, seemingly unconcerned with the fact that they were being affected with kyokun. Instead, he closed her eyes as the other students continued on with the questions, seeming to absorb it all. She didn't particularly care why she was here, but the fact they were using Kyokun against them, seemed to show that they had either a slight fear of the students, or they were trying to get them use to such things.

She didn't waste much time thinking about it. She heard some whisperings, and could only assume that some of the students were talking among themselves. that didn't bother her. For now, she was just happy keeping her own company, and figuring out just what she was meant to do. Later, she might try and talk with other students, not that that had ever worked well fo her.

She opened her eyes, glancing about at the other students before asking "What are we going to be taught here, then?"

Katsuo Masahige

Finally, today's the day, Katsuo thought as he paused at the door to the class.

Inside he gleamed a man holding a folder. His voice was deep and commanding as he carried on uninterrupted with a string of commands and questions. Katsuo swallowed the large ball of anxiety that had been growing in him since yesterday. No, perhaps even further back then that.

He sighed out the anxiety into the conditioned air and finally opened the door. He strode in as a girl was asking a question about what they were going to be taught. The girl had bright red-hair and though she gave off maturity in waves, he couldn't help thinking she looked like someone's youngest sister. When he turned his vivid emerald eyes onto the teacher, he bowed slightly and introduced himself.

"Masahige Katsuo," he said as greeting. "I'll be attending your class and the world from here on out." He renewed his straight posture before smirking. "Now, where should I sit?"

Kain pointed a spot on the floor next to him. "You will sit here, next to me, because you figured it was cool to show up late. Since you weren't here when I said it, I'll repeat it for you. I do not tolerate tardiness. I expect you to be punctual and driven. Slacking will be punished."

As he turned back to the rest of the class, he brought a jar from underneath his desk. "Kyukon water has had many uses over the decades, ranging from torture to rites of passage, but by far it is more useful as training equipment for the soul. In low concentrations, it can be used to drain a person's soul wavelength enough that when it regenerates, it comes back stronger. As your tolerance for it grows, we will be adding higher concentrations to the air here, and eventually we will give each of you a jar like this at your seats."

"As for you, Mr. Holmes, you shall each be choosing your own teams. When nobody has any more questions, you will be free to converse amongst each other."

Katsuo Masahige

The teacher was quick to test his nerves, pointing to the floor next to him and proclaiming that was his seat. For a moment he stared at the spot, his brow raised and lips fixed in a twitching smirk. Being stuck in a laboratory could make someone naive but he knew what a seat was and he also knew what the floor was.

Guess I'm the fool today, he told himself with sharp disdain.

With a white and blue school bag provided by the Doctor over his shoulder and a few notebooks in his hand, Katsuo sauntered over to the spot and dropped down to the floor. He propped his elbow on his knee and placed his fist onto his cheek as he leaned his face on it. The exclusiveness of his seat had placed angered and anxiety mufflers over his ears.

Instead of listening to the man, he found his gaze falling on the others students, even as they looked on him. Firstly, he glanced towards the red-head. Nothing new spoke out to him about her so he quickly moved on. Another girl had brown hair and pleasant looks, making him feel a bit awkward about standing out from the others. Next were a couple of boys but they weren't all that impressive, only the one with a shaved head had gotten a second glance. The man was daunting, almost as much as the teacher.

He glanced down at his own uniform. It was pristine and clean, the scientist most have taken pride in his appearance. That was new. He blinked as the teacher's final words reach him. He really hoped no on had any more questions. The spotlight had always been his nemesis.

They were going to be steadily exposed to more of this water? To build the strength of their wavelength. It shouldn't bother her unless she uses her weapon powers, then. Perhaps it would be wise to do so. Build her Wavelength during use. With a soft nod to herself, she transforms just her hand. Not much, but it was enough. Ooh, she could feel the difference already. She'd have to go as long as she could.

Regan's ears caught the question of her classmate, and she pondered it for a moment. As the instructor turned back to the class and asked if anyone had any questions. She raises her hand and waits a moment, before speaking. "Forgive me for saying so, but I believe you missed a question. Or perhaps you chose not to answer it? Someone asked what we're to be taught here. If I may, I'd like to answer." She waits for a moment, for any objection from the teacher, before she begins to speak. "Ve are here to to be trained to hone... vhatever it is each of our special skills is. Both to use it, and not to use it. To bring it under our power enough that we can conceal it until the moment when it is necessary. Half the power behind a secret weapon, behind a last line of defense... is that it is unknown to the enemy."

Victorica

Victorica had entered the classroom just in time before the teacher had arrived. The new class assignments didn't really bother her all that much. The only thing that she had to do was keep track of what classroom she was going in and apart from that the people in it weren't that much diffrent. She took place at a desk with a bright red headed girl next to it. The other end of the desk had no more students sitting there, making it a nice place to go take a nap at, if she was able too of course. Victorica had already gotten used to her new spot in her new classroom and the teacher looked pretty carefree too, what didn't bother her in any way. It will only give her more time to do stuff for herself instead of reading some stupid book or something.

Her head slowly lowered towards the desk while folding her arms over each other and using them as a cushion for the side of her head. She closed her eyes as she attempted to take a nap for the coming boring 30 minutes. It was difficult to get some sleep in this room. The air made her pretty dizzy, she wondered for a moment if the other students didn't have any problems with the air feeling so light. The constant voices going on around her didn't help either with her sleep. Not being able to sleep anyway she gave a reply to the rollcall with her eyes still closed "Hai hai." Her voice echoed throughout the room, monotone and filled with boredom.

For a short moment one of her eyes opened to look at the red headed girl next to her. Her eye was covered by her long purple hair dangeling down from her head as she quickly glanced over th redhead. It could have been her little sister with dyed hair, thats how young she still looked. Or did she herself get turned back to pre school? That might have been the case to, her lack of improvement in the classes plus her lack of motivation sometimes could have gotten her downfall to this pre school class. She closed her eye again attempting to take another nap not wanting to think about it anymore and luckily she was able to pull it off. Her mouth slightly opened as she started sleeping, leaving small puffs of air coming out of her mouth.

Dimitri listened intently to the words of his teacher and while his first question was not addressed, he was more than happy to have at least one of the answers he desired brought to light. When one of the students greeted him jovially, Dimitri stammered a bit as he tried to actually introduce himself like a normal human being, however try as he might, he only managed to give a soft hello, and by then Ju-Long had already turned back around.

Taking this to mean Ju-Long had lost interest, Dimitri chose to focus once more on Kain exclusively rather than the actions of his fellow classmates for fear of behaving awkwardly should anymore attention be directed his way. This could only last but so long however, as another student entered and was quickly reprimanded for his actions by Kain. For a moment Dimitri felt a slight bit bad for the newcomer, however pity quickly gave way to alarm as the newcomer gazed around the room and sent a secondary glance at Dimitri himself. Dimitri sucked in a sharp breath, quickly stared down at his hands, and began intertwining and untwining his fingers as though there was something more marvelous to be found in the action than there would be in meeting Katsuo's gaze.

It didn't occur to Dimitri until he actually focused on the actions he was repeating that he felt much lighter than he normally did. Up until now years of living with his unusually dense soul wavelength had desensitized Dimitri to the additional heft that it placed on his body, however now as the Kyukon water did its work, Dimitri couldn't help but feel unbalanced. The young man scooted back in his chair and stared down at his leg before trying to bounce it up and down. The action that many people -Dimitri included- had repeated absent mindedly over a large portion of their lives was not nearly as fluid as Dimitri thought it would be. Instead of the soft bobbing that usually took place, Dimitri's sudden loss of weight cause him to slam his knee into the bottom of his desk three times, eliciting a sharp yelp from the teen, followed by him clasping his hand over his mouth. As he rubbed his sore knee Dimitri shook his head as if disgusted with himself, wondering not for the first time just how idiotic he looked just now, 'Smooth, Holmes. Real smooth.'.

Ju-Long

Hearing the soft hello from the person behind him, Ju-Long, didn't have a chance to turn back, as Kain was explaining more things. Seeing another person come in, one could see how strict Kain actually was with punctuality. He almost wanted to smile, but thought it too rude to the newcomer. Katsuo was his name it seemed. While things continued for a while, there was a sudden banging behind him, with a sharp yelp. Leaning back and looking up, Ju-Long smiled a little. "You alright?" He asked. "Are you perhaps a little clumsy? that would be quite the gap between your looks and who you are." Ju-Long gave a light-hearted laugh, not one that could be taken offensively.

Brother, why are you trying to make friends with this person?
This is just the way Brother is. Anyway, he seems like he could be interesting.
Quiet Ya. He is obviously a dolt. You can make better friends Brother!
That's mean! You shouldn't judge people like that.
Now now, don't fight. Anyway, why not make as many friends as possible? It could be fun. Not like I am partnering up with him. Just getting to know him a little.

"By the way, I'm registered as a Weapon. What about you?" Ju-Long heartily asked. Looking across, he could see that near the red-headed girl was a girl with long-purple hair. She was napping it seems. Wonder how Kain will react to that he wondered. He considered looking into their soul wavelengths, but thought better not to at the moment, especially since it would be draining on his sibling.

Kalinda sighed in annoyance as her question was ignored, and then as someone answered it, really just repeating what had already been said. She grimaced as they were told that they would have to chose their own teams. Fabolous. Most likely she would be left scrambling to try and fit into a team. Which wasn't that much of a problem, as she could pretty much adapt to use many weapons.

Maybe she should try and talk with some of the others, but...she didn't paricularly want to try just yet. What if she found then annoying? How would she work with them? What if...no one wanted to be her friend? She frowned at herself, and leaned back further in her chair, looking about at the other students.

She felt eyes on her and squirmed, Looking about, seeing that someone had been studying her, until they introduced themselves as katsuo to the group, and the teacher. Why had they been wat-was that someone else watching her? No, the same guy but he appeared to quickly look away. Just doing what she had been doing and studying everyone, it seemed. That's when she noticed the girl next to her looking at her, before closing her eyes.

Why were people looking at her? Deliberately, seeing that the girl was trying to sleep, Kalinda poked her in the side "Why were you staring at me?" she demanded

Dimitri stopped rubbing his knee as Ju-Long once more turned his attention to him. The meister rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, "I'm fine...thought i'd test the effects of that water, ended pretty poorly as you can see." he said in a hushed tone. The comment about his appearance served to make Dimitri feel a tad crappy, however he pushed the feeling away as Ju-Long didn't appear to mean anything derogatory in his statement. So this is what holding a conversation with other teens is like... The meister mused as he took a deep breath, "A weapon, huh? I'm a meister myself..." he said a bit louder. For a moment Dimitri debated asking Ju-Long whether or not he was interested in a partnership, however once he noticed the boy's attention had turned elsewhere, Dimitri followed his gaze until spotting sleeping purple haired girl, and the red haired one that was currently in the process of poking the former. "I know this is a class and all, but I can't help but feel it's kinda rude to just poke someone in their sleep." Dimitri mused aloud as he waited to see just what was about to take place.

Victorica

Her not so long lasting sleep had ended with an annoyed poke in her side. It wasn't that hard nor painfull of a poke but it still felt annoying and rude to suddenly poke someone when they are middle in their sleep. Not even by opening her eyes she could hear, sense and feel that it was the red head next to her. What did she want from her, did she bother her by lying in the way? She slowly opened her eyes staring into thin air at first for a few seconds with her mouth slightly a gape. Her eyes slowly made their way towards the red head as her mouth automatically closed again.

She first studied the girl up front. She hadn't seen her entire face yet and also the width of her posture seemed to get her attention. There had been some silence for some time while she was watching the firl before she started stretching her arms over the desks with her face faced front in an annoyed look. When she was done she neatly folded her arms over each other again with her chin burried in the gap in the middle. Her eyelids half lowered as she started talking in a somewhat monotone and sleepy voice "I don't know. Your red hair maybe?" She clearly wasn't given it any thought but it would have been rude not to answere. She started pondering for a moment looking up to tips of her own purple bangs.

Her eyelids slowly lowered again before completly closing as it took several moment to open up again, first looking at the girl and then towards some of the other students up to a point where she didn't have to bend her neck. Some people were watching her but she just simply didn't do anything with them, unless they asked her something of course. Before any progress was being made of befriending anyone in the classroom she already was sound asleep again. If the red head wanted to start talking to her again she already forgot about the previous question and didn't answere her for now.

More annoyed now that the girl didn't give her a proper answer, nor seemed intent on actually converstion, but rather on sleep, of all things, Kalinda poked her again, looking over to guy that seemed to rebuke her "would you rather I shout in her ear?" Kalinda asked with such intense curiosity, it almost seemed that she wanted an answer to that. "I figured yelling might be disruptive to the class, but if you insist..." she leaned down, to the girls ear "hey! Hey you, wake up! Sleep time is for night time!" she said quite loudly.

She leaned back, expecting so sort of retaliation, as she watched the girl, muttering under her breath "at least red hair is more common then purple hair" Kalinda couldn't do anything about her hair, nor her diminutive size. But she felt like She made up for her lack of size with attitude. Sometimes. But it always annoyed her, especially when she couldn't figure out why people stared at her.

She poked the girl again for good measure. May as well continue with the interaction, now that she had started it.

Realizing that Kalinda had actually heard his comment on her actions, Dimitri sputtered a bit as he attempted at first to apologize, then to stop her from yelling into Victirica's ear "Well, no...but-", his rebuttal was quickly lost in Kalinda's shouting. Dimitri winced as Kalinda continued her harassment and a stirring in his chest. Watching her reminded Dimitri of how his own interactions with others used to go prior to him taking up boxing. The shouting, the unwanted physical contact, the unnecessary aggression against someone who was minding their own business, it all left a sour taste in his mouth. He mulled on it until Kalinda gave Victorica one last jab with her finger, then bolted up out of his seat without thinking, sending the bit of furniture clattering to the ground "Why do you have to pick at her? Why the hell can't you just LAY OFF!?". The last two words were booming, and far more befitting of Dimitri's appearance than the gentle speech he'd been using up until now, his gaze was hard like steel, and his fists were balled tightly.

The area immediately around the meister's body grew a bit heavier as he glared at Kalinda, however the sensation faded rapidly thanks to the Kyukon water. Just as quickly as it had come, Dimitri's bravado disappeared as he realized what he was doing. His expression softened and he swiftly turned to pick up his chair and sit back in it. "Sorry." He muttered without looking back in Kalinda's direction.

Katsuo Masahige

Standing from his place near the teacher, he pulled the strap of his backpack on his shoulder and strode off towards the others. He eyed the lit candles on the beginning of each long and curved desk with caution. It was a bit creepy and different, especially when compared to the pristine conditions of the labs. He pinched one until it smothered into a dark wisp, the heat not quite as bothersome as battle damage would be.

When he removed his finger, the flame was still lit.

"What the-" He reposed from the fire with a nervous, quiet chuckle and preceded up the stairs.

In one lane, he noticed the red-head and a purple-haired girl going at it... or maybe they were playing. The tall one that had gotten a second glance was sitting above another, a boy who seemed more or less normal. Katsuo rubbed his neck lightly as the feeling of being the odd one out crept up on him.

He was going to initiate a conversation but quickly enough things went south. The tall man pushed out his chair and reprimanded the girl with a rather threatening tone. Instinct led Katsuo to grabbing a katana that was nowhere near his person, his hand reaching at his side as he braced himself to dispatch the boy. But it was short lived, just as the man's reaction to the red-head girl.

Once he realized his side was empty, he straightened up and with sideways, puckered, lips asked. "Is it customary to yell at women like that? I might be wrong," he said aloud, scratching the bottom of his chin. "But I felt heavy for a moment."
