Oswald Connolly is a fairly typical Rushdown fighter. Focusing on damage above all else, each of Oswald's strikes is near-guaranteed to wipe off at least 10% of his enemy's aura. He has moderate reach with his sword, but other than his Level 2 Super, he lacks any form of ranged attack. His attacks are difficult to combo due to their low speed, but a successful combo can turn the tide of battle easily.

As a heavy-hitting melee fighter, Oswald lacks speed and versatility, but the slightly extended range of his sword attacks is perfect for discouraging the hit-and-run tactics of the lighter, speedier Rushdowns. Grapplers should be kept at the edge of your attack range, but Zoners are likely to give inexperienced Oswald users a run for their money.

Oswald's greatest feature, however, is his Semblance, which can use small portions of his super meter to teleport towards or away from the enemy. In the hands of an experienced fighter, Oswald can effortlessly dodge a long-range attack, or move instantaneously across the battlefield to deliver a strike when his opponent would normally be safe from his sword.

In addition to the slow, powerful strikes from his sword, Oswald is capable of using his shield to deal minor knockback to his opponents, but with minimal damage. Followed up with a sword attack, an experienced Oswald user can make mincemeat of characters that rely on quick melee combos by combo-breaking with the relatively fast shield strike.

Level 1 Super: What shield?- A single two-handed strike that deals a rather heavy amount of damage to his opponent. Faster characters will likely have little trouble dodging this strike, but if it connects, pain is all but assured.

Level 2 Super: Closer- Oswald uses his Semblance to teleport in front of his enemy, unleashing a devastating two-handed downward strike that deals severe damage. This attack can only be dodged or partially blocked, as Oswald's semblance grants him effectively unlimited range for this single strike.

Level 3 Super: Impalement- Oswald grabs his opponent with his shield hand, driving his sword into his opponent's chest before pulling himself away, dealing a massive amount of damage. Easy to dodge if it is expected, but blocking will do little to protect you from a sword through the chest.

Instinct Mode: Storm of Steel- Oswald's pupils dilate, completely obscuring his irises, as his conscious mind transfers control over to his primal instincts. As per his namesake, Oswald becomes a storm of steel, focusing all of his energy on offense, attacking with shield and sword. Each attack comes faster, with no penalty to attack, and combos are easier to achieve. As a minor trade-off, Oswald cannot block in this mode, making him vulnerable to ranged attacks.

Fatality: Oswald uses his Semblance to appear inside of his opponent, scattering the enemy into bloody, gory bits as his own aura protects him from the dangerous effects of violating the laws of physics. Of course, with his opponent's aura totally drained...they stand no chance of survival.

I went for something a tiny bit differently: This should be read as a wiki article about the game, and as such some things are not fully described (given that they would have their own articles) but I hope that context and naming make everything clear enough for a casual read.

Underlined and colored terms would be links in the wiki article.

What’s up noobs! I am Forsythe and you’re watching Let’s play World of Remnant and today is time for another character review. And this time, we’ll be looking at Diamond Frost. We’ll go over her her playstyle, skills, combos, and then we’ll finally going to have a peek at how she does in a fight. Let’s get on with it.

*Catchy Intro cutscene here*

moDa: Diamond Frost

Action Points: 12
Aura: 1000 (Extreme)
Strength: High
Armor: Minimal
Mobility: Medium

And here she is. Unlike most characters, Diamond doesn’t quite fit well into any category as far as fighting style goes. I suppose fully skilled up and equipped with proper consumables she would be a jack of all trades, master of none, but that is a very, very late game.

Fresh out from the entrance exam, it’s easy to say what Diamond isn’t. A Zoner. Now using dust WILL give you some ranged attacks, but more on that later. On the first look, she would look like a rushdown due to her high strength and lack of armor. You know, close in, do damage, bug out and let Aurelius or someone else take the return fire. However, her skillset doesn’t quite fit that. What might give you the first clue is the abnormally high number of action points she gets. That is because this character is a dirty, rotten thief! If you have a look at the skillset, you’ll quickly find out why:

[Economy] Yoink! (1 AP): Steal 5% of the enemy’s Lien instead of attacking this turn.
[Economy] Trophy (12 AP): Steal a random item off of the enemy to pawn for lien later. Enemy’s stats reduced by the values of the stolen item.

Yeaaaaah. This, ladies and gents, is the best money making character in the game, beating even Schnee and her discount instinct. What you can do here is sacrifice a few turns in combat to rifle your enemy’s pockets instead of chopping them up. And you can do it twelve times, which if you do the math amounts to 51% of the enemy’s lien!

Of course, you’re never gonna get that, because a) you’d run out of aura too quick and suffer a defeat, and b) the more you do this, the less you are getting. But it’s still a monstrous increase over the standard loot which is randomized between five to ten percent. Which is counted only from what’s left, however it is still a major increase.

What’s the other skill? Oh, glad you asked. Fancy that, you can actually steal a random item as well. Now, here the description is a bit nondescriptive, as when you right click - do you see that? It only counts for trinket slots, so it’ll yank a random ring, necklace or what have you off of the target, but you won’t be liberating any weapons from them anytime soon. But come on, that would just be overpowered. And of course, you want to be using this skill on high level players rather than the common mob or noobs, as it would deplete your AP completely and in early game, the items you can steal, if the enemy even has any, are far below the price of what you can get using the other one.

Another speciality connected to her background are the instinct you can pick from. As usual you can only pick one when you start, so pick carefully. Here they are.

[Utility] Scouting (Passive): When initiating combat, Diamond scouts out the area and allows you to get a glimpse of the map and opponent before the fighting starts, allowing you to change your gear for the fight ahead for 5 seconds before the match begins.
[Combat] Form specialist (Passive): With her semblance relying heavily on imagination and mental control, Diamond get’s 5% bonus on dust cost.

You basically have a choice here between being allowed to switch gear to better fit the threat or make your weakness slightly less painful. It… wasn’t an easy choice. The first option sounds very cool but five seconds isn’t really all that much time, and if the game decides to lag at that time it’s as good as not having any skill whatsoever. On the other hand it’s an instinct that works immediately while the other one only gives you any bonus after you acquire dust spells, which Diamond doesn’t get until she reaches level 20.

Alright enough about that, let’s see how she fights. The first thing you’ll ask is “What weapon do I use with her?” Well, here’s where it gets unique. Diamond can manipulate her shadow to a physical shape, and that’s what most of her skills are about. You know, level one, summon a dagger, level five summon a katana and so on and so on.

However, there are few that drastically change the way she plays. As I mentioned at the beginning, Diamond seems pretty rushy-downy, however there are few attack oriented moves. Let’s have a look.

[Lvl 5] Shadowbind (5 Aura): Molds the shadow into tendrils that immobilize the target while Diamond closes in.
[Lvl 15] Enhance (15 Aura): If Diamond attacks with a shadow weapon, this enhances it for a more powerful strike.
[Lvl 25] Laceration dance (50 Aura): Summons a random weapon for every casted shadow and uses shadow platforms to quickly move around the target and strike multiple times.
[Fatality] Yanderu galore: Launches her shadows towards the target, impaling it and shredding it from the inside.

See that on level 5? That one skill is what turns Diamond into a hybrid between a rushdown and a grappler. Just remember to get the hell away once the combo is done, this woman wears a trenchcoat, not a suit of armor. Diamond is, compared to most other characters, quite weak on the DPS side, but her combos are utterly devastating. Remember in the show when she had that dream where Oswald got drugged up and she tried to stab him with a bloody massive Katana? That’s the skill on level 15. It gives you a hit between 150 and 225%, depending on which weapon you have selected. It will also increase the chance of triggering a special effect like stun for blunt weapons.

The Laceration dance is one of the hardest hitting abilities in the game, second only to Weiss’ Shining Flash. This monster will hit for 250 aura depending on how many shadows are casted. The downside is the cost, because as an aura beast you want to keep some 80% of Diamond’s aura for defense, so you’re only going to be suing this up to four times, usually less, but even then using it just two times will shave 30% off of Yang’s aura bar.

“But Forsythe, you said something about dust!” Yeah shut up i’m getting there! *cough cough* Alright, consumables. As you may have noticed, most of Diamond’s skills are depending on how many shadows is Diamond casing at the moment. So in a nutshell, you want to be freeroaming in PvP at night under the street lamps where you’ll do most damage. You can however use this in the day as well when there is a strong source of light present, like the searchlight of the Unsubtle or the Flare consumable which will cost you 250 lien each, so use them sparingly, but you won’t need to dual wield against anything but the toughest tanks.

As far as dust goes, Diamond can use Freeze and Kinetic dusts, which further hybridizes her between a rushdown and a grappler, but also allows her to temporarily increase her speed and most of all, shoot ice projectiles.

[Lvl 20] Ice penetrator (5 freeze dust, 15 kinetic dust): Launches a kinetic projectile made out of ice.
[Lvl 22] Slidestep (10 freeze dust, 5 kinetic dust): Creates a slippery surface between Diamond and her target and propels her along, quickly closing the distance and ramming the target, stunning it.
[Lvl 24] Overfrost (15 freeze dust): Ensnares the target in ice and binds in in place for 3 seconds. Also deals 10 freeze DPS that ignores armor.

And now you see why diamond has those two economy spells. Those dust costs are MONSTROUS! Just to compare here - Penny’s Superlaser will cost you 20 power dust units, but it will do four times the damage of the Ice penetrator. Yeah.

Alright, what am I forgetting here. Oh! Assists! Now remember, you only get these in Co-op and Story which is a little bit of a shame, but RT announced a patch that will introduce them to PvP when you are in a party. Let’s have a look.

[Marcus] Searchlight (1 AP): Uses the Unsubtle’s search light to project an additional shadow.
[Oswald] In and out (1 AP, 10 aura): Diamond and Oswald take turn rapidly striking and withdrawing, preventing the enemy from using any skills for 5 seconds.
[Aurelius] Distraction (1 AP, 20 aura): While Aurelius distracts the target, Diamond delivers a crippling blow from behind, dealing a bleeding effect that does 5 DPS for 5 seconds.

Alright, enough about stats. Let’s watch a few games...

Born out of negative feelings, hatred, despair, loneliness, and greed, Grimm themselves are unable to feel anything more than rage. Sitting atop the pinnacle of an ocean seastack, however, is the single exception. The creature called Black Mercy is hideous to look upon. Its central house-sized mass, spongy dark flesh, is covered in short, stubby tentacles on the top, like a mane. Its tail snakes around the seastack all the way to the ocean, where it lies in the water to bait fish for it to eat. Its head is a misshapen, potato-lumpy oval, wearing a Grimm mask with nothing but ebony-black eyes of various sizes. Black Mercy wields psychic powers beyond belief, electromagnetic waves so powerful and so precise that they can alter the chemical flow of impulses in the brains of humans and faunus alike, altering perception. These powers flow out from that lonely seastack across the world, influencing the minds of all Remnant's inhabitants, sinisterly and subtly.

And yet, Black Mercy is the most benevolent Grimm, if not the most benevolent creature, in the entire world.

For it is not the aim of Black Mercy to make men see things that aren't there. Black Mercy makes invisible and incomprehensible things that, to the horror of creation, are.

If men could see as Black Mercy does, they'd look upon the earth in terror. Floating through the air, hiding in the corners, clinging to the buildings, and dodging among the crowds are the real Grimm, of whom the Grimm that the hunters and huntresses fight are a mere prelude...the Phantoms. These monsters, invisible and adept at keeping themselves unknown, infest every part of the world, including the Four Kingdoms. It is unknown whether or not they are kept from attacking and wiping out all life on Remnant through Black Mercy's interference, or if they are simply biding their time, content to watch humans carry on their ignorant lives unknowing of how insignificant they are to the cosmos, waiting for some higher instruction to order the slaughter.

New technology among mankind is, for the first time, starting to pick up these psychic signals. They are slowly being understood, and, in time, will lead a trail back to Black Mercy's lonely ocean pillar, where waits the feeble, disgusting, creature upon whose shoulders the concept of sanity rests, the only Grimm to ever feel pity.

The Reaper

Outside of Vale's walls, lies a small, ruined town known as Whitewood. Years ago, the city of Vale had lost contact with Whitewood and sent three teams of its best hunters to discover what had caused the silence. It was thought that maybe a horde of beowolves had ravaged the town, but what the twelve found was much worse. When they first arrived at the town, the first thing they found were the bodies, torn apart and scattered everywhere. There were no survivors. The only thing of note was a small slip of paper found being clutched by a severed hand. It read: "No point in running, you'll only die tired." The three teams proceeded inside the nearby forest, hoping to catch up to what they still believed to be a group of beowolves and avenge the innocent killed.

The following is a message sent by one of the hunters: "(Indistinct yelling and gunshots can be heard in the background) We found it! We found what attacked Whitewood... and it's tearing us apart. (A girl screams in the background, before being suddenly silenced by the sickening sound of crunching bone) Tori! Dammit! It's already gotten team RAYN and half of NITE's gone. Team MRVL's the only ones at full strength. (More yelling and gunshots can be heard) We've never seen anything like it. I think it has some advanced senses or something, because it immediately saw Nathaniel, even with his invisibility semblance. None of our attacks are even piercing it's hide. I... I don't think we're going to make it out of here. (A voice in the background tells someone to duck, right before the sound of a large explosion) Don't come back here. No matter what you do, don't go anywhere near Whitewood. This is Marvin, leader of team MRVL, signing off. (An inhuman roar echoes in the background before the message finally ends)

There have never been any reports of The Reaper, as the radio operator called it after picking up the message, ever leaving the Snowy Forest where Whitewood had been settled. Suspecting that the knowledge of such a Grimm existing would send the general public into a panic, information about The Reaper is known only to huntsmen and huntresses who are sent anywhere near the Snowy Forest where it likes to hunt.

On November 24, 19XX, two teams were sent into the town of Fortunion after several disturbing cases of civilians attacking each other. Upon arrival, the two teams were continuously attacked by civilians. All of them had expressions of fear, and were bleeding tears from their eyes. All attempts at nonviolent negotiations failed, and they were forced to fight for their lives while trying not to kill any of the civilians. Fighting their way through the city, they eventually took refuge in a building and waited for extraction. In the building, however, they found seven audio recordings that revealed some very informative news. After extraction, both teams and all personnel that had been in contact with the teams were placed into quarantine.

Deimos- The Shadow of Fury

A long time ago, long before your birth, before even the birth of your parents or grandparents, there was one Grimm, whose name alone infused fear to the populace of Remnant. The Shadow of Fury it had been called, others gave it a real name. Deimos, the god of terror.
His first appearance was devastating, annihilating a warrior academy near a city called Istbor.
Now, you might ask, how does this Deimos look like?
Well, that is where one of his names comes from. In his basic form, he is just a shadow, a cloud of blackness wafting about, but anger him and giant red glowing orbs floating inside the cloud of darkness. Red lightning will occasionally flash through his cloudy body, too.
You might question yourselves, how such a creepy creature can actually attack when he is nothing but some kind of cloud.
*laughs*
I never said, that he was a cloud. No, he is as real as you and me. Touchable and killable. But, that means, he can kill, too.
And that he does with exceptional skill and brutality. Strong, black claws will manifest out of his body with which he will grab any being close to him and either rip it apart, or eat it.
His red orbs are, however, his main threat. People trying to escape his wrath will simply be paralyzed by the red mist emitted by him.
Unable to move, unable to flee, they are prey to his insatiable hunger.
Many hunters have already died trying to kill this thing, but were only capable of draining its energy.
One hundred years ago, though, Deimos broke his own records in brutality. He once again attacked Istbor. This time, however, he didn't attack any warrior academy, nor a hunter school. This time, he targeted the civilians of Istbor. All attempts of defeating him as he approached failed and he simply tore down the city wall injecting his red mist into the streets of Istbor.
In an new and unseen before way, the mist not only paralyzed the humans, but it also latched onto him.
Some time later, Deimos started inhaling. All the mist in the city made its way back to him... including all latched-onto-humans.
This is how the city of Istbor was devoured in one swift strike.
Revenge was quick to follow, though. In an unprecedented act of bravery, a young team of hunters managed to come up with a plan to disable Deimos' abilities. Once that was done, they managed to pierce out his eyes, slice off his claws and mutilate his mouth.
Naturally they were elated to have defeated the monster, but Deimos wasn't exactly dead. Without the ability to defend or attack, Deimos just vanished into nothingness.
Ever since that time, he has never been spotted again, but we are fairly certain, he is still out there, recovering, waiting for the perfect moment to feed again.

So, we must be ready. Ready to face him again, ready to banish him for another hundred years, if he was to appear. We can't let another city die, can we?

The Pravis

For every person, one name strikes fear into the heart of men. The tales of them is a forewarning to hunters, what they could be when they give themselves up to the dark beings they fight against. They were hunter that came from all the continents around the world that were young, exhibited great intelligence/strength with a desire to protect mankind from darkness fighting against the most corrupted Grimm, using their powers to fight for mankind.

With their intelligence and strength, they also harbored unconventional beliefs and ideas for mankind before the war. They wanted use their ideas to help better mankind yet were mocked shunned and casted out from society by their own race…the race they sought to protect.
Being betrayed led to their dark repressed past to leak out, thus negativity in their hearts they once repressed to return. They unknowingly became consumed with negativity in the wilderness where they were casted into, attracting darkness, their humanity eroded, transforming into beings filled entirely with darkness.

They are the Pravis meaning “the corrupt” or are known as the Fallen Hunters denote to hunters who became corrupted. They were still human but more animalistic and barbaric each with a Grimm Mask embedding upon their faces. They would engage in acts of demonic barbarity, snatching up humans and Faunus for their sustenance, and seeking out those exhibiting great negativity to give them more power. Their sustenance is only required from time to time and is not regular but rare… There was once thirteen Pravis before but the diligence of hunters and huntress to destroy them led to only three left existing in the world. There are also two more confirmed Pravis members but have not been sighted in a long time. Their names are unknown and have not executed any kind of action upon Remnant in a long time…

New technology has allowed the world to detect traces of leftover darkness was ever the Pravis strikes, so they can follow their trail.

Ahriman: He the symbol of all darkness, the destroyer of goodness in the world, he brings the stench of disease with him. Ahriman has destroyed countless communities and left a trail of destruction and fear since he fell…

Aeshma: She loves, war, conflict, and has killed countless of innocent people along with Ahriman.

Dantalia: is the most feared out of all the remaining Pravis due to retaining all physical qualities of a human yet retains the soul of a corrupted human infused with darkness. She knows all the thoughts of man and Faunus and can declare counsel to any to who she deems fit for manipulation. She serves as the manipulator, a deceiver to people and seeks to find people who harbor confusion, negativity, yet intelligence for manipulation and eventually, conversion into one of their own.

Her most feared ability to take any shape or form of any human making her near untraceable…

OOC: Same continuity as 'The opposite day'

“GAH!” Diamond woke up with a start, drenched in cold sweat. She thought she got over it, but the nightmares of that day haunted her even now, a year after. Sometimes she wondered why she was even still here.

Today was the first ‘anniversary’ of The Incident, yet Diamond only shown up for a little while. They lost so many that day that she could only celebrate with grief and mourning. And, as it became a habit once more, a smoke. Something she was craving right about now, so she got up and left the dorm for a midnight stroll.

A year earlier…
A familiar voice howled in pain, and Diamond turned only to see Aurelius fall on the floor, face twisted in a pained grimace. For him, that meant something truly bad happened to him. “Get him out of here!” Marcus yelled over the noise of battle to her.

Without a moment’s thought, Diamond carved her way through two of the cultists and closer to Aurelius. That was when she saw what kind of mess did they made of him. Kitty was standing above him, his knee spotting a hole made by the mechanical tail that was now about to sink into his chest.

Angered, Diamond summoned a sizable spike of ice and launched it at the faunus. The woman’s aura blocked the shot, but visibly drained her as color vanished from Kitty’s face, and she ran away. Diamond looked at the poor guy on the floor and wanted to pursue. There would be hell to pay. But first, she had to drag the guy out of harm’s way. Apparently his semblance has reached it’s limit, and the world of hurt that was put upon him caused him to blissfully fall unconscious.

Pinning one of the cultists to the wall with a shadow lance, Diamond hurried over propelling herself along an icy slide. She scooped her teammate up and unceremoniously hung him over her shoulder before bolting out of the hall with her cargo. The fighting was concentrated on the ground level and the basements, so the girl went up the stairs.

She nearly bumped into someone when she turned the corner on the 2nd floor, intending to head for their dorm where she could get her comrade first aid, but they actually bumped into a nurse. Perfect! She gave Aurelius to her care and turned around. There was a world of hurt to be put on a certain 'classmate' before she vanished.

An hour later...
The cultists were being pushed back. Tactically they lost, but it was obvious strategic victory for them. They proven that even Beacon itself wasn’t safe from an attack, and some misguided idiot out there would certainly rub it in their faces, along with the fact that there were numerous casualties on the cultist’s side. No One cared that it was due to their sheer fanaticism and that it was either them or the hunters. The anti-hunter propaganda was as strong as it could get lately.

But right now, Diamond couldn’t care less about the life of the one she was facing. She managed to block all escape routes out of a basement they were in with debris and ice. Her own aura was down a good chunk, but so was Kitty’s. “You’ll be undone today. There’s not gonna be enough of you left to run a DNA test.” the faunus snarled. Diamond merely regarded her with a deadpan expression, angering the Faunus further.

The two of them charged at the same time. Kitty deployed a spike from the end of her tail and held two shortswords she picked off of a fallen cultist, Diamond summoned her trusted cane. With a feral growl, the two swung their weapons against each other.

Diamond immediately fell on the defensive, her cane zooming through the air to block the furious attack of Kitty’s weapons. The swords broke after a few hits when confronted with the shadow weapon, but the faunus managed to connect with a swipe of her tail and knock Diamond to the ground. She rolled out of the way just in time for the tail blade to embed itself in the concrete floor.

Seeing her chance, Diamond reformed her shadow into a rapier and stabbed it into the mechanical appendage before Kitty could free it. Jumping to her feet, she twisted the sword and the tail broke apart. Now disarmed, Kitty retreated a few paces, hissing in anger. However she realized she was on the losing side and was backing away from the tip of Diamond’s weapon.

“Thought this was gonna be a catfight?” Diamond taunted the faunus. Oh, she didn’t know the half of it. Diamond was going to enjoy making her suffer for what she did to her teammate and what her buddies did to her friends. She let her weapon dissolve, popping her knuckles. “Damn straight it’s gonna!” she growled, anger showing on her face the first time in that fight. In a second she was onto the faunus, and another round of the fight began.

“Who. Sent. You?” she asked coldly, sending a chill down Kitty’s spine. The Faunus was bloodied, one of her ears had a piece bitten off, her left eye was swollen shut and she was missing a few teeth. Above all else. Still, there was a defiant anger in her face as she spat blood to Diamond’s face.

That was it. Diamond didn’t usually resort to violence, but she’s had it with this one. That, and Kitty ruined her clothes, bit a chunk of her forearm off and broke one or two ribs. Tossing her against the wall she walked up close, and with a single precise kick with her heel obliterated one of Kitty’s knees. “That’s for Aurelius you grimm whore!” she hissed to Kitty’s ear while the other screamed and whined. “We’re alone here and will be until the rest of your buddies is mopped up. No One will hear you scream. Plenty of time to talk. Minutes. Hours. So I suggest you start talking. Because I swear, I will not kill you, I will be killing you. One piece at a time!” she hissed and just to prove her point broke Kitty’s trigger finger. The beaten girl let out a long wail, begging for Diamond to stop. “Tell me names! Places! Resources!” Diamond insisted, summoning her cane and crushing one of Kitty's toes under it. She knew all kitty knew within ten minutes.

Present day…
It mattered little. Nobody ever made an arrest. None of the Order’s heads were ever found. Even Kitty didn’t do any time - they stuck her into a hospital which she didn’t leave for half a year after Diamond was done with her, and afterwards the woman further cooperated with the law, keeping herself out of the joint.

But since that day, MODA was short of their A. Even with his semblance full on, Aurelius still felt every movement of his knee. They tried everything, but some wounds just never healed. Today their teammate officially left the school. And with that, something in the rest of them just broke. Aurelius was going back to his family business. Oswald insisted on going back to help defend his village, with or without the team. And Marcus got a very good offer from Althesian skunk works. Of course, Diamond didn’t fancy her chances alone. Nobody wanted to say it out loud, but their team was finished the second the school released them.

She snuck away at night again. After The Incident, she knew of only one way to relieve herself of the grief that day, and it made her relapse. But she kept her smoking secret not to add more worries for the team. It wasn’t even helping anymore. Now it was just a necessity. She cursed herself to let it go this far, but she couldn’t stop herself now.

Diamond sat on ‘her’ bench, and another painful memory came back to haunt her. Not everyone was as lucky as Moderation to get off with scars that would last a lifetime. BAST and KESS were completely wiped out when the bomb detonated, and Rayna and Priscilla fell as well, taking Rumple and Lady with her.

She flipped the lighter open and took the carton, when something strange happened. Her accessories froze over, almost as if her dust gone out of whack. Except she didn’t do it. Then, something pierced the skin on the back of her neck, and the world went dark.

Was this it? She was going to be poisoned like some kind of rat? By someone who didn’t even had the guts to look her in the face? No! She still had fight left in her, she… she felt good actually. Better than in months in fact. Well, if she was dead, then at least it wasn’t half bad. Save for the hospital smell… wait a minute.

It took some effort, but Diamond opened her eyes to see Beacon’s infirmary. So she was alive. But something was amiss. The place was deserted save for herself, and a shadow she could see against the moonlit window. Against the light, she could not make out the stranger's face, but there was something very distinct sitting on top of the stranger’s head. Diamond blinked to clear her eyes - That couldn’t have been! Just to confirm, she reached on top of her own head and found the hat right where it should be. The creep noticed and turned around: “Oh, but it is your hat. I missed you, mom.”

Diamond never went from drowsy to alert this fast. She sat upright and grabbed the head of the stranger, not believing a word she said. But what she saw when she started twisting made her stop. It was her face, just with brown eyes and a mane of natural-colored golden hair, much like her own. Her jaw went slack. The resemblance was uncanny. “Then… you must be… Mia?” The stranger shook her head, “Lilith Amaranth” she corrected. Diamond’s eyes went wide. That was the name she thought she would give a daughter if she ever had one! “Correct.” Diamond whispered barely audibly, making the girl in front of her smile: “I did not know I was planned this far ahead.”

“Prove it.” Diamond demanded. This just couldn’t be! But the girl that couldn’t have been older than 17 in front of her blushed. “You… you’ve got a name tattooed in an ancient script… Ehm...” Diamond’s hand promptly shot forward to silence her. “How...?” Diamond whispered, drops of tears falling from her eyes. It was insane, but at the same time, it was the only explanation. Perhaps her kid (This was so strange!) would elaborate.

“How? Umm, well…. you see I wanted to be like you… in everything… and I kind of got matching tat when I saw yours one time, without knowing what it meant...” Despite the seriousness of the situation, Diamond roared in laughter. Long time ago, she had Amy’s name made… somewhere special. But just in case, she had it made in letters of a dead language not many could read without consulting books. She pulled the younger woman into embrace. “Okay, okay, I believe you. Not what I was asking though. How are you here?”

In the next few hours, Lili described to Diamond what happened (happens? will happen? Diamond’s brain was having trouble coping with the unreality of this situation) in the years following. She confirmed the team disbanded, and that Diamond gone with her plan and opened a bar. But the ghosts followed all of them. When Aurelius was shot dead in the middle of a press conference, Diamond thought he just made some bad shady deals. Then Oswald simply vanished in the forests around his village. Everyone blamed the Grimm, but their activity at the time was at all time low. Headmaster Ozpin died the following year. It was attributed to a heart attack, but not everybody believed it. Team RWBY got wind of her past and was willing to drop the matter if she did them a favor; And thus she broke into the morgue and smuggled the headmaster’s body out to a certain personal clinic. They confirmed the Headmaster was poisoned with a very rare substance. That convinced Diamond and Marcus that somebody was targeting Beacon’s hunters specifically. “You know, you keep avoiding the real question. Who’s your dad?” Diamond asked, curiosity at all time high. However, Lili only grinned and shook her head, making Diamond pout.

“You were so close to a breakthrough and then… you died.” Lili said with a hiccup. “Those damn smokes of yours killed you before the war even started.” she said, tacklehugging Diamond again. “And then… I found your diary. And I found how you managed to travel through time once before. When the war started and a cure for your condition was developed… I… I know your notes said to never attempt this, but the world was heading to a quick end. When Atlas finally moved against the other kingdoms… Mistral fell in just weeks! I had to do something!”

At that point, Diamond moved to calm the girl. “Shh, It’s OK. You warned us, we’ll fix it, so when you go back-” But Lili broke the embrace and shook her head violently. “No. It only worked for you because you didn’t change anything. And I - I intend to change it all. In fact, I already did. Do you feel like one?” Lili said and offered Diamond her smokes. And to her surprise, that unquenchable craving was all gone. She grabbed the carton and mercilessly crushed it in her palm.

“I hope you realize we can’t tell anyone who you are. Or that... we... won’t be as before. The fallout if this ever reaches the ears of public...” Now it was Lili’s turn to comfort Diamond. “I already thought of it all. There was nothing left for me there. Unca Marcus probably ended up in jail once the war broke out - he would have never agreed for his work to be used against other countries. And with you gone… I missed you so much!” she broke into tears, taking a few seconds of Diamond gently rubbing her back to stop. ”But… there is one person we must tell...”

Ozpin was aroused from his sleep and he immediately had the assailant in a chokehold. The old man was so quick they couldn’t react in time - pathetic assassins indeed. Now, to extract some information from them - maybe he should call in Diamond. She had a knack in interrogating.

Spinning around and throwing the woman against the wall (If that was a man, he really needed to eat and work out more). While the she weas picking herself off of the ground, the headmaster turned the lights on, training his weapon on her. To his surprise, he saw the very one he thought to call. “Miss Frost? Care to explain yourself?”

“Well, apparently I had a daughter.” Diamond said flat out, observing with amusement the look on Ozpin’s face. “Please excuse me.” he said and headed towards the kitchenette. He returned with a steaming mug of coffee and took a seat at the table, motioning for Diamond to take the one opposite. After a long sip, he nodded. “Come again?”

“You heard me.” Diamond said with a smile. “And when was that? Pardon me, but you did not look the part any of the last four years.” the headmaster inquired. On cue, Lilith emerged from a shadow she was blended in and put a hand on Ozpin’s shoulder, causing the man to twitch in surprise. “Well, I suppose tomorrow at the earliest, if I put some work into it.” Diamond grinned. Lili did not find that particular mind image appealing though. “I’m going to need brain bleach.”

They spent another hour retelling the tale and how it came to be. Eventually, they formed a plan of action.

The next morning...
The summon was like lightning from clear skies to Marcus and Oswald, and Diamond had to fake her surprise with a good deal of effort. The Headmaster summoned them to his office early, telling them of a disturbing new evidence that team Catapult was bribed and the order of grimm funded by Atlas. And tasked them with a rather dangerous mission: To stop a war. “You will be listed as AWOL. This can under no circumstance be traced back to us. However, you will also need complete team.” at that cue Lili walked in from behind a shadow - which she could completely meld with, as Diamond was told. “Lily Amanda Snipes, reporting for duty.” Lili introduced herself under a false name.

“I will give you a day, then I must report you as missing.” the headmaster notified. “You must not fail. Good luck, and goodbye.”
