And you have that one little voice in the back of your head telling you that the GM might think your character is shit and tear you a new asshole.

The trick is to be the first one to apply. GMs are still nervous about whether or not anyone will show up to play, and everyone who goes after you writes around your character, so there's a hole left that only you can fill. The GM is happy you're interested and everyone else gets out of your way. You almost can't lose.

Well, the RP’s been going for a year so that’s my first problem.

Eh, I’m just a nervous fuck when it comes to stuff like this, especially in advanced. I’ll look over all the other character sheets and compare them to mine, taking in that somebody might have a longer or more in depth biography.

But really if the Gm finds something they don’t like about a character, it’s most likely that they’ll go over what it was and then help you fix the problem.

But seriously, it's hard sometimes in Advanced. Some of those gms could be real elitists. I don't think there are as many of those as there were back a few years ago back on Oldguild, but there light be a handful or less of them left. Just be confident in your character and hope that the GM isn't one of the few remaining elitists.

Who are these mythical elitist GMs and why did I never meet them? I feel left out.

You should be fine, personally as a GM I don't even read bios, I read the important bits. Magic, equipment, personalities. and skills. and as a character creator, I pepper in the bio in the other bits.

f bios, basically.

This is now an anal logistics thread.

That aside, good luck in the High Tiers.

Wha- People put their heart and soul into writing those bios! As a GM, it is the duty of the one they are giving their characters for inspection to read through everything and make sure it checks out, and if it does give them some praise and a healthy pat on the back!

... Then again, for you to be able to say that, I suppose you don't exactly GM story-driven roleplays. Suppose it might work then.

*notices that it is Rilla I'm replying to* ... Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand I suppose the bios you get for the most part are waaaay too into detail and don't exactly contribute to anything at all, not to mention you've possibly seen way more sheets than most other GMs around here might see, so I suppose that works in those circumstances. ... My words apply to everyone else, though. Especially in Advanced. ... ESPECIALLY in Advanced. Don't skimp on the bios! ... Haha.

actually, most of them are highly story-driven, like Allaria, and Butterflies' Wing.

I just don't care much about bios. Never have. Bios help, but most won't actually really be mentioned again. If it's that important, it'll end up in the posts. I've never run into a problem with it, really, with people trying to sneak things in to make them ultra sues. They get nipped fairly quick.

It's of course different from everyone. Nargle is also right, I spend a lot of time in the Arena, unless I'm running an actual RP, but even then I add in story, back and forward. Hahaha.

@Rilla I, uh... can't even imagine not reading the bio. Sure, in some cases it might not influence the future, but not knowing the backstory of the individuals inhabiting a world that I'm supposed to GM- Can't even imagine it. It feels so fundamentally wrong. ... Well, I myself am a GM that absolutely loves to involve character's pasts into the actual game, so maybe that's what's influencing me, but... Yikes.

Well. If that works for you... then I suppose it works for you. I wouldn't take it as advice, though. XD

I let them do it, really.

I may have phrased it wrong. I will read them, but they aren't the make or break, unless they are so utterly absurd that its a wonder why they even attempted it. As I said, I don't have a problem with most bios, they are just my least favorite part, and I'd usually prefer if they just stuck with the big bits, instead of cramming everything in therE.

I'll skim them mainly, to pick bits to use(Oh, you're from X, cool, you can be the lead on most of this bit since we're here).

Also, I wouldn't take it as advice either, as I'm more prone to just put mine throughout the sheet, instead of just a big section. Maybe thats my influencing factor. Hahah.

@Rilla Oh, alright. That sounds better. Yes, I can understand that, unless the bio somehow involves the story of the world somehow which then needs to be examined so it isn't absurdly wrong, but if you do skim it I'll assume you get those things. Very well, carry on.

dude we're the same way, i always get worried about the GM thinking my character is bad and my character not getting accepted

especially when all the other sheets are super long, i try really hard to be on the same level as all of the others in terms of length and quality etc, etc.

most of the time in the end it just turns out that i worried too much about the flaws, and i get accepted. either that or the character points out some flaws, i fix it, and then i get accepted.

Bios are the most important part too. By far.

A bio tells you whether or not the applicant understands what the RP is about, and it shows whether or not they can string a sentence together without getting their dick in a knot.

A good app is a short one. Honestly, when it comes to non-stat RP's at least, I think the quality of the RP is conversely related to the number of questions in the App. Dem shitty rp's will have a dozen or so sections for their application, but the best only use two or three.

I read everything of everyones things ever, why you may ask?

Because I'm terribly bored, I'm not even joking. I read everything in Free, I read everything in Casual, I read everything in advanced. It's become a sort of hobby, but also my personal trend. It might even happen that I enter some random roleplay thread and read the characters and then leave before anyone can even spot that I'm there. I'm like an information broker, just not earning any money.

However when I make a character I just write something, tweak it until it works, and polish it until it's hopefully as fine as a porche. You heard it here first, folks.

Edit:
I've been checking Arena out for a while, I want to enter it but... Well, I have no clue as to what is going on whenever I go there.
