Because low quality allows for high quantity. The good RPers can only handle one or two RP
s at a time, whereas the various Anime Marysue Academies don't really involve any content so their players can spread out over several RP's without breaking a sweat.

And most RP's die young because that is the way it was meant to be. It takes a whole lot of elements lining up at just the right times to make an RP last. The main RP I am involved in right now, Precipice of War, had been going on for four years because of this sort of luck.

Now, I can't say that this is the formula for a successful RP, and I don't know if this is true with other long-lasting RP's, but this is the one I know so I can tell you how it lived. First, it was shitty when it began so we didn't have to dedicate that much effort. Second, several of us stuck with it and got better at writing in the process. Third, the major personalities in our group work really well together, and we all take it seriously enough to keep it in the air. I'm not sure how easily it is to just up and duplicate that sort of thing on a whim.

All you can do is keep plugging away and improve yourself as you go along.

I got on one simply because there's nothing else to join, and because i wanted to go on somewhere other than NRPs.

Everything in sight is the same old shit: magic kawaii desu weeaboo furry schools.

Guilty pleasures. Everyone loves indulging them.

I feel sort of like when people are children/tweens they don't know the concept, because of the mentality of "Oh man this is so cool everyone else must think this is so cool too!!". When people hit highschool they're pressured to only enjoy what their select clique enjoys, shunning past obsessions, until they finally say "fuck that" and just enjoy or create whatever shit makes them happy (be it furries, magical schools, Mary Sues or anything else). People are happy with what they're happy with, some of the "shittiest" RPs are the most successful because of that.

Narutos and Fairy Tails, more so.

While superhero RPs tend to constitute an even larger portion of all RP threads, at least there's a higher likelihood something exciting will occur.

Magical Academy Mary Sue RPs tend to have their characters barely use their powers, and never at all for combat.

If they have a combat-involved plot planned, the RP dies out before it executes.

Because if I wanna play a teenage liger human that goes to a nor cal high school, but fights evil magicians at night, or day, in order to protect my friends and gain entry into SnakePox School of Magery and Otaku Harems, then damn it, that's what I'll do.

there really isn'g any creative side. It's done as self pleasing play(non masturbatory), where you're actually someone in school.

Don't forget that the character description never matches the character's actions. And nobody ever ever does anything at all. It's all walking to places and sighing, then having conversations that are awkward in ways the writer doesn't intend because they are trying to force their characters to seem the quirky sort of awkward and they can't pull it off.

Well done, you're a better writer and more interesting person with a more creative mind than those people. Are you feeling validated now? I highly doubt you're dense enough to think "I don't see interest in this so WHY DO THEY EXIST?", so the only reason this thread exists is because you want to be told you're better than those people and for others to commiserate in the tragedy that excellent RPs aren't dropped into your lap for you.

My advice? Go make an RP if you don't see one you want to join, and then invest the time and effort to find reliable people who'll stick with it.

Like Halo said, stop bitching about it. They have fun, they don't do any harm.

And, like Robeatics said, they're fun. I personally enjoy going in there and trying my best to make people laugh. Most people get it and understand what I'm doing and why. Hell, most people endorse my actions. Some people don't and try to ruin the fun, but that just makes it even more fun. You should try it sometime. It could be the lube that ultimately removes the stick from your ass.
