Last question - is it one spell that freed the gods or a set of people using the spell at what turns out to be roughly the same time?

It was one spell, cast by an unknown and foolish group of humans who sought to restore Godliness back to a planet ruled by the Mage Lords. I probably should have been more specific on that front. However the Gods would have been free to materialise where and when they wanted, so appearing at some cultist church hundreds of miles away from the actual ritual, or anywhere else for that matter, would be perfectly possible.

@Pie Flavor & @Agamous Devout Accepted! Although are you two okay with starting at the same place? If not we should probably resolve any potential issue prior to start.

@hivekiller Finally, an elemental God! Accepted :D

Okay, so I've lost my first choice, the God of Death, and my second choice, the God of Chaos -- which is no issue, as I wanted players to have first dibs. However, it means I need to go away and think of a new God.

In the meantime, I officially declare the IC open. As everyone is pretty much starting in different locales, I see no issues arising from you guys posting before I do. However if you want to wait, then that's fine, I should have my side of things up and completed fairly soonish.

I'm fine with it if Pie is fine with it. Our gods are vaguely similar, anyway. So, tyis should be rather fun.

Not sure how much time I'll have to post today, though.

I don't see why not. I imagine some Gods will be intimately involved with swearing, and their language and use of it will probably reflect their personalities.

Hello! You mind if I hop on into this RP?

Also, a small question; I don't imagine there'll be loads of interaction with any Gods I make and other Gods so is it ok to create a PC Mage Lord alongside my God or would you prefer for the Mage Lords to play a smaller role in the RP?

Well, I have no problem with players inventing and controlling Mage Lords, but I'd like them to remain lesser characters.

The reason for this, is that lesser characters can be killed usually with little fall out between players. If I made them major characters, then obviously someone would very much like to play the Saviour of Mankind, which would lead to a player vs player battle - not that these wont happen, as the Gods consider turning against each other - but obviously a Mage Lord/God battle would be a lot more common.

Experience has taught me, especially in RPs where Gods and massive powers are involved, that players love nothing more than to get uppety when they lose. I don't fancey seeing my RP crash and burn so early into its life.

HOWEVER, this does not stop players from inventing a Mage Lord to serve as their God's main/temporary antagonist, allowing them to move said Mage Lord as if they were a chess piece. Though to add to this, Mage Lords are considered NPCs or minor characters, and their deaths should not be mourned or contested.

I hope this answered your question.

EDIT: I'm going to make a section on Mage Lords in the first post, to give more details on them - I think this is an area I should have beefed up to begin with.

I agreed with you on this. I joined a few Gods RP previously somewhere else and most of the RP crashed when players playing as god, kept on fighting on who's going to win or more powerful, The ICs were on hold and fights can be seen everywhere in the OOCs, everyone had no choice but to quit the RP after a while. I think the setting of this RP will prevent that from happening, which is why I'm interested at the moment I saw this on casual rp interest check.

So I was at the interest check and didn't see the rp go up lol. Was wondering if I could make the Goddess or Mortality and the Powerless.

Oh and are we limited to one God?

Agreed.

However, should Gods come to blows - as they may do - I will simply give my approval or disapproval of any event with finality... and I will elect a neutral party to judge me, should I be in such a situation. Though I don't normally like to be the "OMFG I WIN LOL :D" type, preferring to be the defeated party as I find it much more fulfilling to write about.

If my decision in a God death match is unpopular, then those unhappy with it can just leave the RP. I'd rather that, than have some kind of differing democratic decision making process that causes more problems and a slow death.

Anyway, here's the Mage Lord section, that can be found on the first post:

Mage Lords is the term given to mortals who are born with the ability to tap the Creator's residual powers, left behind by the methods he used to create the world, and the life within.

A hundreth of the planet's population are eligible to become Mage Lords, but they are not simply born with the knowledge and power to thrown down a God, and the world they live in is a hostile one. Often, Mage Lords are great Kings, or Emperors - warlords, and leaders of realms. Ordinary mortals struggle to oppose them, no matter how heroic or skilled in arms they may be.

For this reason, Mage Lords tend to be paranoid about those who may usurp them - mainly infants who possess the ability to contest their reign. Therefore, some Mage Lords are bloody, brutal rulers who systemically murder anyone and everyone who can tap the Creator's powers.

Others however, are relatively wise and peaceful beings, who live in remote areas and seek a life of meditation and knowledge. Most Mage Lords are semi-immortal, able to extend their lives through the use of "magic" - the name given to the powers they wield.

When it comes to using powers, the Mage Lords are able to tap a wide range of abilities, from necromancy, elemental, arcane, chaos and all of the other powers God use. However, as they are mere mortals in truth, they cannot summon the same amount of power in any of these schools of magic. If a Fire God could reduce a continent to ashes, then a Mage Lord may only be able to reduce a city with similar effects.

Therefore, they are not as strong as Gods, but they are numerous. In the War against the Gods, the Mage Lords united and used their superior numbers and combined strength to out fight the Gods.

Since the defeat of the Gods, the Mage Lords have sought to replace them. Some have gone so far to attempt actual Godhood, but so far none have succeeded and these rituals usually end with bad results. Nevertheless, with their minor Godlike powers, they are able to both shape and sustain the world.

I hope this clears some things up.

That answered my question, yes! I had no real intention to make a major Mage Lord character as I was focusing on making a Goddess but I just thought that it would be a good way to involve myself in another's storyline. I was thinking maybe a spy-like character who isn't strong in battle but can get information by earning a God's favour or piquing their interest. I wouldn't have really minded killing them off either because they'd just be a side character but I understand your point completely! Thanks for explaining!

Anyways, I was going to make my character the Goddess of the Heavens (stars, etc) and Light if that's ok with you?

Sounds good to me! And no problem. :)

No need to get sassy ;) Unlike our characters, I am not a God, and can easily miss things... the same way you missed the post in the interest check, in which I placed a link to the OOC (OOOOHH SNAP!) Haha but no I'm only joking, and I offer my apology for overlooking you.

To answer your question, make whatever you want. Any conflicts with other Gods will be resolved at the approval stage... though you could make my life easier by making sure your God's powers don't overlap with another's. Some slight overlapping is fine, and will probably happen, but I'd rather not have clones walking around.

As for how many Gods one can have, I'd rather you just had one.

@ViolentViolet I have a couple bones to pick here.

Firstly, do please check my god's function when it comes to consistancy, as yours seems to... contradict it. Particularly considering my god is, more or less, the guy who decides where dead folks go.

Also, have a look at @Zoghor's, as his powers include restoring souls/life.

Ultimately, I feel there's already enough gods to fulfill the functions of modifying the dead/lifespans, but that's up to the GM to ultimately decide. Having the primary place of after death is alright in my book, though, since my god just sends them somewhere - he doesn't own the existence of souls when they die unless he personally takes them because they pissed him off in particular.

Secondly, I am a little concerned about one particular power:

The second of my gifts is the ability to take away the powers of other gods,

That sounds a little OP even for the functions of this roleplay.

Just my 2 cents.
