Background: Born to two scientists in The Institute, Mathias has always lived around advanced tech. Unlike most children there, however, he also enjoyed escaping out into the wider Commonwealth, visiting places such as Diamond City, and even once taking a trip to the Capital Wasteland. He loved learning about the wasteland and its inhabitants, and seeing the effects the radiation and other pollutants had on them, and all the other life. He learned to appreciate medicine and its uses, while also seeing how medical science can be used to cause pain and suffering. He would become a very established medical doctor of the Institute, developing things like cybernetic limbs, a cure for diseases like Cancer and Aids, and even a treatment to provide temporary immunity to even the most harmful of radiations with a single dose. However, he had a large skeleton hidden in his closet, so to speak. Word got out of secret experiments he performed on captured raiders in hidden complexes deep under the Institute, some even involving captured strains of the Forced Evolutionary Virus, obtained from the Capital Wasteland. This wreaked havoc with his reputation, leading to the Institute violently removing him from the Commonwealth. He began to travel south, first to the Capital Wasteland, and once his reputation reached him there, further south again. Eventually he arrived in the Carolinas, setting up a medical camp in the wastes with what tech he was able to scavenge from the Institute, and the wastes.

Equipment: He wears various scraps of semi-protective clothing, such as his brown trench coat. He carries a .45 pistol on his side, a combat survival knife in his boot sheath, and a hunting rifle on his back. The rifle takes standard .308 rounds, but has also been jury-rigged to accept auto-inject stimpaks and Med-X as viable ammo, meant for firing into allies for a quick heal or assist. He also keeps a backpack full of pre-war and Institute-level chem and medicine-producing equipment, but nothing that would be unable to survive a rough journey, a large pouch full of stimpaks, Med-X, and other chems, a smaller pouch filled with around 1500-2000 caps, and another pouch filled with ammo for his two guns. Around his neck, generally hidden from view, is a special glass vial with a yellow-orange liquid inside, which when asked is said to hold "A last-resort experiment."

Other: He has a pet dog named "Max", who got his name from one of Mathias' favorite pre-war movie series, where a man wanders a wasteland similar to the current one, only in the movies, the cars actually work. He also has a pre-war quarter he keeps on his person at all times, which he will absentmindedly twirl between his fingers at times.

Background: Vault 35 was one of the few control vaults built, housing scientists from all around the research triangle park who were working on specialized tech. Jack was chief of security in the vault yet also one of it's leading designers of weapons tech. With many devoting there time to physics or biology wanting to create counter radiation drugs and radiation proof crops as they had finished there original project a hundred years ago and moved on to other things.

When The Enclave arrived they demanded the vault hand over all it's tech and research along with it's people. The Overseer was unsure of the answer and thus Jack stepped up, telling them that they would not hand over there home to bandits in power armor.Thus both sides began to prepare for war when the Vault door opened the few security personal fought back, having donned Athena class power armor and equipped with high yield laser rifles. There energy weapons cutting deep into the Enclave armor giving there techs enough time to seal the door back. The Enclave however would not be denied its prize.

In the months between the first Enclave and attack and the coming second Jack and the other vault dwellers managed to weakened the vault structure and tunnel out and up. They began to move the Power armor and weapons first then other projects, the generations of hard work would not be lost. Thus only a few of the scientists escaped along with Jack when the Enclave destroyed the door and invaded, gunning down the three remaining guards they took the scientists prisoner and what notes they could salvage.

Now a months later Jack alone has begun attacking Enclave soldiers as he searches for allies in his war against the Enclave to reclaim his home. To anyone who joins him he promises access to his vaults scientific equipment and high grade pre-war tech. With that Jack has arrived in South of the Border looking for anyone else looking to hurt the Enclave.

Equipment:
A worn Vault tech issue .10mm pistol.

He keeps a custom laser rifle hidden in his bag, he calls it Rebecca. With a custom focusing crystal and finely tuned output Rebecca burns targets and can cook armed targets. The beams she fires are a distinct blue color and it's is craved in its side.

Background: Born in the Mojave, Arryn and her sister Patrice enlisted in the Desert Rangers at the age of sixteen. Patrice ended up being transferred to the NCR Mobile Infantry, eventually dying in the First Battle of Hoover Dam, but Arryn became an accomplished Ranger. With the Ranger Unification Treaty, Arryn took part in dozens of joint operations with the NRC Rangers, including the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. With the Legion in full retreat she, along with many Desert Rangers, requested permission to pursue the enemy across Arizona. These requests were denied and some Rangers, feeling the the Legion threat was not yet over, ended up deserting their posts and crossing the Colorado anyway. Arryn was one of those Rangers. Over the next few years she, and her comrades pursued the Legion until it completely fell apart into warring factions and tribes. The job done, the former Rangers went their separate ways, some even returning to the NCR to face punishment for desertion. Arryn continued heading east until she found herself in the Carolinas.

Background: A semi-local drifter. Achilles' parents were raiders, and worse, they were well read raiders. They thought they were better than most people out there, less ignorant. But they were just as violent. Achilles grew up as part of a wave of children named from characters from various ancient epics. Growing up was bloody and even the children followed the rule of survival of the fittest. Achilles was somewhere in the middle of the food chain, but he held up among the bigger and stronger children by being more resilient than most. When he was a teenager he was involved in raids, and that was how he was separated from his tribe.
They ambushed the wrong caravan, and lost the fight. Achilles survived, as he always did, but was left to die in the waste. He was picked up by the next passing caravan, who didn't realize who he was. He never said, but took the kindness and has been living his life paying it forward since then. He wanders around, doing odd jobs, usually wet work. He tries to work for "good guys" but sometimes it's hard to tell.

Home: Originally from **** *****, Maryland. Unearthed somewhere in Georgia.

Skills:
Science - His robotic nature, not to mention his 'character', make him better at raw analysis of facts and data than humans, and he is adept at gaining clearance to locked pre-war terminals. Due to the nature of his origin, he can almost-instantly access terminals associated with offices of the Pre-War Federal Government, which is one reason why he was so highly sought-after by the Enclave.
Speech - He possesses Negotiation Subroutines which make him quite the diplomat when necessary; as opposed to most robots, who will either shoot or run. Only problem is, he negotiates entirely in rational, unemotional terms, which makes dealing with irrational opponents difficult.
Energy Weapons - He was not designed for combat, but as a defensive measure, he was programmed with basic Energy Weapons handling subroutines, enabling him to potentially integrate more powerful energy weaponry, including both Laser and Plasma weapons, into his system if necessary. He hasn't found it necessary so far, however.
Sneak - Yes, believe it or not, despite being a clunky robot, he knows a fair bit about the art of not being detected. Not just limited to hiding, but also pretending to be more insignificant than he is. You don't escape from scavengers on multiple occasions without picking up a few tricks.

Background: Government, formerly known as 'GAU/A/-LYNJ', has been around since before the war that devastated the USA. As his name might suggest, he was formerly an employee of the pre-war US Federal Government, as an automated secretary of sorts for high-ranking figures. Or so it seemed. In reality, he was actually a *** for the ***, and was programmed with hidden ********* subroutines for the purpose of ****** on '**********' ********** officials. Just before the war broke out, his *** ********** overwrote his subroutines, against his judgement, and ordered him to actually **** *********** ******, his then-current boss and a vehement opponent of ******* ******** and ******, as part of an ****** **** to ****** **** *******. Ultimately, the war beat him to it and buried him in the process.

He was dug up by scavengers near Atlanta after laying dormant for over a century. Miraculously, he was still in barely-working condition, and the scavengers called in an 'expert' who was able to use spare parts to get him running properly again. However, they were unable to locate his hidden ************* subroutine. As such, Gov. attempted to escape his captors, determined to get back on the trail of *********** ******, not realising that the *** is long dead. Naturally, he was recaptured and put up for sale at a scavenger's market.

Gov. changed hands a number of times after this, during which time he finally realised that the USA was, indeed, hit by a Nuclear Attack. Eventually, the robot found himself in South Carolina, where he was purchased again by a mysterious figure. The mysterious figure turned out to be a member of the Enclave, who had heard rumours of the robot who claimed to be a Government employee, and sought after his lucrative pre-war data. Contrary to what the Enclave had assumed, however, Gov. did not recognise them as legitimate government employees like him. Instead, he accused them of being 'Impostors' who wished to stage a Coup D'etat against the real Federal Government.

The Enclave's engineers sought to break into his chassis and reprogram him manually, but Gov. had picked up experience in the art of escapism. He killed the engineer assigned to reprogram him when his back was turned, and then successfully escaped the Enclave base where he was being held. Since then, he has been roaming the wasteland in the hopes of reaching Washington DC, where he believes the remainder of the true Federal Government (including his ******), is holed up in a bunker somewhere.

Equipment: He has a compartment in his chest in which he can carry things a la Bender. At the moment, the only things he has in there are 35 Laser shots-worth of spare Energy Cells, a couple of Fission Batteries, a copy of Dean's Electronics, some metal filings, and burnt papers. For self-defence purposes, he also has a plasma pistol mounted inside one of his arms. He usually flees from combat, though. Or gets the jump on people if they don't suspect he's armed. No pun intended.

Other: While he's at least aware that America has been devastated, he acts as if the US government is still in power, and often futilely tries to pull rank on people by claiming to be a government employee. It's how he got his name; 'Look, it's the Government!' 'All of it?' 'Yep, all of it'. The arrival of the Enclave has made this somewhat redundant, but the name has stuck nonetheless.

Also, his favourite board game is Risk. He's always wanted to get his claws on a genuine Pre-War copy of the game.

Background: The story of Samuel starts before the war, when a certain organization of men in white robes and pointy hats took refuge in the holding cells of Fort Camelot, then a military base serving mostly as barracks. Of course, the passage of time wasn't kind to the fort, destroying most of the sign and many of the records of their ancestors. Word of mouth remembers the ancestors of the Knights of Kamelot as the Knights of Clan Cluecloch, an order who protected pure-strain humans from vile mutants such as the ash-skins and nightwalkers. Though they know not of the horrors their brave ancestors faced in the defense of the common folk, the modern Knights of Clan Cluecloch have taken up a similar vigil, seeking to protect the Wastelanders from feral ghouls and super mutants, questing for artifacts of the old world in order to gain fame and glory. Their own life is a second concern- for it is a knight's duty to protect the common folk.

Samuel is the adopted son of one of the forgemasters of Kamelot, who scavenges, repairs, and sometimes builds from scratch the weapons and armor the knights use. His birth father was slain in pitched battle with one of the Mirelurk Kings of the Tennessee Aquarium. Ten years ago, Samuel earned a place as a squire by slaying ten feral ghouls with nothing but a combat knife, and after five years as a squire, was knighted himself. He's come to the Carolinas on a quest to slay the foul mutants who torment the innocent humans of the wasteland- particularly deathclaws and other FEV monstrosities- for the glory of the order.

Background: To know Zhang's past mean you first must go to the moments leading up to nuclear annihilation. He lived in a town now known as Hongmin, or Red Gate, built upon the ruins of Atlanta's Chinatown from vault dwellers whose ranks were filled with pro-communists and Chinese agents. The people of Hongmin believe that the greed and scourge of Capitalism caused the Resource War and the dropping of the nukes and sees communism as the answer to make the wasteland strong and unified.

To this end, they trained using salvaged copies of Red Army training manuals and whatever oral knowledge had been passed down, supplemented by something new: comics and games. Along side endurance training, they were taught to sneak around based on what a couple of copies of ¡La Fantoma!:Mark of the Rising Sun told them, with marksmanship training came free-running based on what was seen in Oath of Secrets: Shadow Walker. Yes, these communists definitely were not the run-of-the-red-mill communists.

Zhang was a particularly outstanding trainee, having aced nearly all the tests (minus one that involved brahman riding). However, un-stereotypically, he is also bad with numbers, knowing how calculate his caps is about the extent of his abilities and robots are the bane of his existence. Outside of that, he is a good natured person but is fiercely defensive when talking about ideologies. Due to the teachings of communism, he is very willing to share whatever he can with the people around him, hoping they will see the light communism, as that is the reason he has come to the Carolinas; to spread the teachings of Chairman Mao and the glory of the Revolution.

Equipment:
- Salvaged Armored Chinese Stealth Armor - An old suit of Chinese Stealth Suit that has fallen victim to time, the people of Hongmin however have managed to fix it to some degree and add metal plats for extra armor. While the stealth function works, it has a maximum use time of roughly five minutes a day as this is the one part they didn't really know how to fix. Lacks the helmet.

- "Red Orchestra Concerto" - Zhang's personal Chinese Assault Rifle, it has a high rate of fire but due to how it was repaired, it will sometimes make a light "zing" sound and when fired at full automatic, Zhang likes to believe it is like an orchestra.

- Chinese Pistol - Just a normal Chinese Pistol owned by Zhang, repaired by a friend, its nothing to write home about but Zhang has named it "Kekao" meaning "Trustworthy".

- Forge Combat Knife - A hand-made combat knife created by Zhang which he sharpens when he's idling. Hopes to one day replace it with a Chinese Officer's Sword

- Food and Water Rations - A large bag full enough to keep him fed for a week but he often gives shares out to travelers, saying "the Communist Party will always help those in need."

Other:
- He rides a cart pulled by a brahman named "Guanyin" who he primarily uses to carry stuff and travel on when his feet need a break.
- His commanding officer gave him several books to help on his journey, namely a Red Army Training manuals, two issues of ¡La Fantama!: Mark of the Rising Sun and some concept art from Rouge Alert: Disvowed

Background:Born in the West Coast bunker to a scribe and a paladin, before he could even talk his family left the west coast bunker heading east with Paladin Owyn Lyons on the expedition to Washington D.C, it was here where he grew up and learned the ways of becoming a paladin like his father, during this the outcasts broke away and their group settled into The Citadel his home.

He grew up within the walls of The Citadel, hating and fearing the super mutants outside of them. Seeing what they did to scouting groups only fueled his rage, and made him train harder. It would be many more years when the war between the Enclave and the Brotherhood broke out and at that time he was just a initiate unable to help in the war, he could only sit and watch from the walls as they went out and fought. He remembered the lone wander, but no one ever mentioned the help they had in the brotherhood. Nobody ever mentioned Sarah Lyons, or the countless brothers and sisters who lost their lives reclaiming project purity and keeping it safe, and like a bad dream the Enclave was wiped out.

Even though peace was achieved with the Enclave wiped out, there were still super mutants to deal with and when Joseph was finally old enough to become a junior paladin and earn his power armor. He was ready to put a stop to the green menace outside the walls, he fought with courage and eventually made his way up to the rank of Paladin. But all things break and he did, the horrors of war haunted him and he was beginning to show cracks so he was given time to rest and was approached by the elders with a new mission.

He would go into the Carolina's chasing the rumors of a Enclave presence there, and report back to the brotherhood about goings on there. Of course he would be brought in secretly and he wouldn't be able to speak of the brotherhood or wear his usual armor. Reluctantly he agreed and when he entered the Carolina's he kept quiet and low, he began to hear rumors of a vault dweller hunting down Enclave soldiers. So naturally he went chasing ghosts hoping he could help this dweller, these leads took him to a border town called "South of The Border."

Background:
Whit can't remember most of his early life before becoming a ghoul. His memories kick in a short while after he had joined one of the many ghoul 'camps' that littered the wastes of the Mojave a hundred years or so after 2077 and the nuclear blast. He and the other ghouls at the camp fended feral ghouls, radscorpions and many other threats away from their small, slowly moving camp.

Soon enough, Civilization had begun to rebuild itself with the opening of the vaults and whatnot. With the advent of many towns and even cities being created all across the wasteland came the introduction of trading to the wastes. Whit cashed in on this new business by acting as a sort of courier for many people willing to pay him for it before using the money he earned from this to buy supplies at low prices and sell them high elsewhere.

Whit eventually grew tired of trading though, and in his arrogance decided on becoming a mercenary. He fell in with a few 'gangs' throughout the wasteland, mostly new gangs who would have accepted anyone, even a ghoul. Whit eventually got proficient enough with his weapons to join a more well known mercenary company, one that is now defunct. He travelled with the company for a good while, and he genuinely enjoyed the experience. That is until he lost his leg on the job. The mission was simple. Kill some backwater farmer and take his ear as proof. What Whit and his gang didn't expect was a deathclaw to appear on scene and kill two of the members before taking Whit's leg off with one fell swoop. The deathclaw was eventually taken down with the help of a few explosives, but whit was rapidly losing blood. He barely survived the trip back to town. A doctor begrudgingly fixed Whit's leg, but he was still left disfigured from the shin down. Whit travelled for a while before encountering upon a mechanic who happily made Whit a defacto leg in exchange for a few caps.

Whit's been travelling all over America after that. Trading to get by and drinking to forget the past. Currently he's arrived in a town by the name of "south of the border" with the hope that they will at least not water down their drinks.

Background: Kitten's family was murdered by a gang of Raiders when she was barely more than a toddler, young enough that she would eventually forget the name her parents had given her. The leader of the gang ended up taking her as a living trophy and she grew up amongst them, renamed "Kitten". As Kitten got older she endured beatings and worse at the hands of the Raiders and ended up using chems as an escape. In bouts of Psycho-induced rage, she'd even take part in her captor's raids.

When the Raiders inevitably turned on each other over a particularly big score, Kitten used the chance to run away, eventually ending up in South of the Border. She still had a chem problem that needed funding and intended to get work as a mercenary but, while she'd escaped the Raiders, she hadn't escaped the reputation she'd gotten while with them. Not many people would hire the "Murderous Raider Whore" so, in between those scarce mercenary contracts, she was forced to find other less savory ways to support her addictions.
