So to expound on my idea to 'schedule' the tournaments, hoping that this will fuel more discussion - as that's the point, for us to talk about potential changes.

Assuming there are four tournaments a year, the calender would look similar to this:

King/Queen of the Rookie or Rookie Tournament: The name may be misleading, as surely, it'll include people who can't be classified as rookies, though they'll likely take first priority.

Theme 1: Perhaps a slightly realistic/powered melee tournament, I.E: Dyayun vs Tre'Yan type of characters and matches.

Theme 2: A sci-fi themed tournament, where the characters use futuristic characters, based less in magic and more in technology.

King/Queen of the Arena: Open to top seven/fifteen people in the rankings, not counting the winner of the Rookie tournament, who will be granted a spot. Serves as top tournament of the year, between the elite.

Futhermore: Hosts can still host the tournaments and have the judging power, and other sorts of abilities, like picking the power level. I'll for sure host the final tournament, and maybe the first. I'll be allowed to participate in the last one, under the rule that a secondary judge will judge any and all matches I'm involved in.

Another thing I'm interested in talking about is the points for losing. I'm fine with the points for winning/draw, but it seems odd that I can, in theory, lose a match and immediately jump several spots up in the rankings(some have already).

And the last thing are tournament point structures? Perhaps it is just me, but I'm not a fan of getting points for every match in a tournament. Perhaps a change to the system, allowing for the top three to get a set amount of points, instead of per match.

Again, hopefully this fuels some good conversation and whatnot; we have 20+ people involved in the rankings, and many express no opinion on such things, which is disheartening, as I would rather not just make decisions without any input.

and if you have any ideas/suggestions feel free to bring them up.

I find it really difficult to type from mobile phones

I just got a new phone and the buttons are tiny
Though on a queen and king basis it might be weird

As most of us are men

I'm not gonna be the queen

No matter how pretty I look I am not a lady

I believe King/Queen refers to the character not the players actual gender.

It can refer tobeither. If a man wins he's king. If a woman wins she's queen.

Why in the blue hell would we take into account the actual gender of the character owner? If I play a female character ala the Dreaming Queen and she wins I won't call her the king of the ring because of my gender that'd be ridiculous.

Well, I'm assuming Rilla would rather crown the winner of the tournament with the title rather than the character they're using.

I suppose. To me it is silly. If the character wins the character carries the title.

I'll leave it up to the winner. I lean towards character, but some may want themselves to be recognized.

Youd think the character would get the title, considering if they didnt itd be weird story-wise.
And the writer didnt kill those people the character did.

But, on the other hand, the great Rilla knows all.
Except how to kill goblins. Those things mess Rilla up.

I do agree the title should go to the character, but having a way to visually see that title would be nice. That is a question I had. How do you award the title? Is it just simply stating you are the current champion and then everyone recognizes it, or do you get something like a fancy signature to commemorate the occasion?

I disagree that that the title should go to the character.

- The Character, although participating in that ONE tournament, will not necessarily even be the cause of that person's participation in the tournament.
- It closes up possible storylines that these tournaments could have, just saying "It's a tournament for so and so title" year after year could get, well... boring. It'd be much better if perhaps sometimes these tournaments were disguised as something other than a tournament. Some elaborate storyline with some 'asshole' in the background pulling strings. (No Offense, Rilla. I think most of your characters seem like assholes.) It'll be more fun and more versatile that way. Tournament settings could be fun, but so would other things. I'm reminded of this Comic I read one time, where people were put up against one another without their knowledge and basically for one reason or another they were forced without knowing it, to fight and make it through the brackets with some evil guy lurking in the background. I don't even remember the name of it, but my point is made.
- ????
- Profit. I don't know, just doesn't sit well with me, plus ego and all that.

Also, @Rilla. I have to post for my RP tonight after work. I'll try to get a post in tomorrow. Can't make any promises, but that's my goal. I've had a super busy week. I'm writing this now between a meeting and getting ready to head to work, so as you can see, I'm managing to get in post where I can.

The theme of the tournaments and the story lines for their existence are up to the host. So if the host wants to set up a SAW-esque event they are more than welcome to. Some tournaments like the proposed realistic one makes sense to have it as a tournament, like an underground fight club thing. While a proposed fantasy event could be set in a dungeon where each contestant is released and the winner finds their way out.

In order;

@Bartimaeus Says the goblin that just got blasted in the chest. ;D

@Crazy Scion Well, if I can convince the powers that be, we may be able to get titles; customizable, so for instance if you wanted Dennis to be the King, and you won the tournament, you could have it as 'Dennis - King of the Arena', or in case you wanted it to be you, 'Crazy Scion - King of the Arena'

@Impaqt In general, all of my top 'OP' guys are manipulative dicks, but several of my playable characters(See Kei'taro and Alphonse) are genuinely nice guys. But in response to the rest, there could definitely be overlapping storylines going through the tournament, essentially making the tournament a back drop to bigger things. And alright, so long as you guys let me know(@LeeRoy), then I'm cool with waiting. I'm pretty patient like that.

@Skallagrim That's the ticket.

The main issue here, however, is... should the tournaments and their themes be pre-announced(Like WWE's MITB, WM, Survivor Series), or be presented as a surprise at the announced host of the event? I have no problem with either, really, so it's basically an open discussion. Innue's tournament is running slowly, for instance. I had expected that the first round, at least, would be over by now - but as stated, I support any decision he makes regarding the tournament he is hosting.

I like the knowledge before hand, it allows me the opportunity to establish my personal story line for my character being involved. Either through fights before hand or in the character's history.

@rilla And I set you up for the knock out blow, make me proud and write it well.

Yeah, or just both.

I can see the final tournament playing a role for both.

1) To establish a character as a top dog, and perhaps build storylines off that. Making them effectively 'King/Queen', think Zatch Bell

2) Establishing a writer as the better 'fighter' as we end our 'year'.

@RillaIn the case of my duo. It could even be Scion an Dennis the unintended kings of the arena. Rilla may play manipulative jerks, but Scion and Dennis are good guys who really hate the idea of killing people. If Scion was a jackass he actually probably be much harder to beat. Though I guess he can get angry if you hurt him to much.

That's why most people play assholes, it's easier to explain why they would be fighting and generally doing anything to win.

Strange that good people don't utilize their own advantages, such as having townspeople come to their aid and the like.
