Formaroth – The Battle For the Throne: A Nation RP
(Note most OOC conversations happen via discord so I would advise getting a discord account if you wish to join)
At the moment this RP's vacancies are as followed: Nation (Open for minor houses) Individual Character (Open)
This roleplay will be focused around the main family houses of Formaroth and their response to a power struggle that arises once the King of Formaroth dies and leaves no heir to the throne. The aim of the RP is to try and make your house the ruler of Formaroth through political, military and diplomatic means. The different Roleplayers will have to choose how to deal with the various situations and obstacles that they will face, and depending on the choices they make, will decide on the outcome of what happens. The winner is whoever becomes the king/queen of Formaroth with a stable rule.
Summary plot
The reigning ruler of Formaroth, King John Remonnet has passed away under suspicious circumstances, most whisper it was the cause of poisoning, others say it was natural causes, whatever the case it now leaves the throne open for grabs, as there are no living heirs to the throne to claim it for their own, and continue on the royal lineage. Now any Nation or Individual can now lay claim to the throne of Formaroth, the Battle for the Throne has begun. King John has tried to right the ways of his brother's maniacal reign before him, the empire began to blossom, there was peace to be had, and shared across the land; wealth bloomed, and the other kingdoms that pledged allegiance to the mighty kingdom of the Sypius Plains, where Nyhem, the sprawling citadel that holds sway over the land, worked alongside one another in prosperity. With King John's queen dead three years prior to his own, there is no eligible heir to claim the throne; meaning anyone can stake a claim to the throne.
Each member of a House (the ruler's of the individual kingdoms under Formaroth) are eligible to claim the throne for their own personal use. With fear of an impending war looming now that the King has died, each House has sent a diplomat to Nyhem, for a meeting gathered at Miserth Keep to proclaim their reason as to why they should be the next ruler over Formaroth. With previous conflicts occurring between the Houses, most turn to seedy ways to make sure that their member is the one to lay a stake to throne, even if it means placing a drop of poison in their enemies goblet. Even individual characters, whether they are a captain of Nyhem's Royal Army, a powerful Mage, a Cleric, or a Merchant can lay claim to the throne. However, they can also side with any of the Houses in support; this grants Individual characters the ability to maneuver between Houses, act as spies, or even turn the tides of ongoing events.
Nyhem Plot (De Reimer family/Aurelia Vyncetta/Lady Lanaya Triskell Dionisa)
Nyhem is the the capital of Formaroth and the seat of power for the royal family. It is currently under the control of Duncan De Reimer (recently crowned). Duncan De Reimer was the head advisor for the former King John Remmonnet. One of the responsibilities of the head advisor is to to rule the continent of Formaroth in the absence of a king or queen. Considering there are no more heirs to the throne the De Reimer family believes that Duncan is rightfully now the next in line. Recently Duncan has been crowned king and the De Reimer family has gained a lot of support from the other houses (namely in central Formaroth). This alliance is known as the imperial concord and now Duncan is one of the main contenders for the throne. Duncan is willing to keep his family on the throne by any means necessary. The De Reimer family has also conquered the kingdom of Ralda (home of House Mazeltof) and the kingdom of Coruneon (home of house Humber). The Imperial Concord are currently winning the battle for the throne.
Aurelia Vyncetta was a highly skilled mage and Magisterial advisor for the throne. She supported the imperial concord and was working alongside another mage (Alice Budwin) on a new source of magical energy (in a form that has long been considered impossible). She was on the High council for as long as Duncan has and as a result they had a close relationship. As a result a romance had started between them, sadly the romance was short lived as Aurelia was recently assassinated by an unknown assailant. Duncan and Aurelia's friend Layana are currently determined to discover who was behind her death.
Lanaya Dionisa is a mage who ultimately wants to see mages ruling Formaroth. However she understands that she is unlikely to achieve this goal and therefore will settle with mages having a larger say in the politics of Formaroth. She beleives supporting the Imperial Concord is the best route for this goal. She is recently acted as a diplomat on behalf of the Concord to convince house Blackwell to join the Concord. During her time with House Blackwell she became very 'close' to Eli Blackwell. She is currently in Nyhem investigating the murder of Aurelia and has taken Aurelia's place as the magisterial advisor. Any work that Aurelia had been working on (including her work with Alice) has been passed onto Lanaya.
Urd Raudhfell is the secret bastard daughter of Patrick De Reimer (head of the De Reimer family). She is a mage who has suffered greatly at the hands of ignorant mundanes. She is currently in Nyhem to find out more about her secret family and witnessed first hand Aurelia's murder. She is currently staying with Layana at Thale Manor
Lycaon Issorat is a knight of the church of Klebrithy (main religion in Formaroth). His motives are to increase both his power within the church and the church's power within the political structure. He has recently assassinated the corrupt leader of the church 'Grand Cleric Mildred' and has started a vacuum of power within the church in which he hopes to come out on top. He is currently trying to get on King Duncan's good side by raising a brigade from the local populous and sending them to fight house Manshrew. The vacuum of power in the church has also caused a heretic known as Johannia to speak out against the church. She has been literally been branded a heretic and upon a narrow escape from her execution she has escaped to Ralda.
The second major contender for the throne is House Manshrew. Their leader Andrew believes that that the De Reimer family is not to be trusted and claims that he is the best contender for the throne. Though he has no real tie to the throne, his honor and leadership has gained him a large amount of support forming the 'Manshrew Alliance'. Many view him as a hero who will lead Formaroth into a new golden age while others view him as a power hungry usurper. Andrew managed to secure a early victory against the concord by capturing Orog and won a major victory in Telmarion. However as the war has continued Andrew's list of enemies has mounted against him. He has lost both the kingdom's of Ralda and Coruneon to the Concord. Furthermore the concord have retaken Orog and the Imperial army is marching to meet him in Telmarion. He is currently laid siege to the stronghold of Clarm, hoping to take it before the concord forces arrive. He has recently made allies with House Neptuna who are sending reinforcements to Telmarion.
House Blackwell is a another major player in the battle for the throne. While the head of house Blackwell, Giles Blackwell, is more interested in expanding his land than he he is in making a claim for the throne, his son Eli Blackwell is interested in securing his own claim for the throne. Recently De Reimer spys disguised as Manshrew assassin's attempted to kill the various members of House Blackwell. The assassination attempt was a failure as the De Reimers predicted, however they succeeded in framing house Manshrew. During the assassination attempt Giles Blackwells youngest daughter was severely wounded furthering Giles rage. House Blackwell is now preparing for a all out war against the Manshrew alliance and have also announced their independence from the crown. Negotiations between the Concord and house Blackwell were undertaken between Eli Blackwell and Layana in which the Blackwells and the concord made a formal alliance with Noami Blackwell being married off to Patrick De Reimer. Also Drevala Blackwell can turn into a dragon...
Claus Rotestein is the leader of the steel fist mercenary company. He was hired by Patrick De Reimer to be an officer in the Imperial Concord, due to his excellent militarily experience. He recently fought Andrew Manshrew in the Kingdom of Telmarion. Despite loosing due to the incompetence of one of his commanders he was able to save the majority of his army. He is currently successfully holding out against House Manshrew at the stronghold of Clarm, though the Manshrew forces are starting to close in around him. Travelling alongside Claus is Katrina Nikos, a young girl who was formally a Blacksmith apprentice. She joined the steel fist in the hope to live her life to the fullest and see the world. She is often seen by Claus's side.
After Ralda was invaded the Mazeltof host was forced to withdraw (after taken heavy casualties) Alicja Mazeltof was left behind and presumed dead. She is currently in the city of Nyhem alongside a knight by the name Ramfrey Hansard. After finding out that her sister is in the Nyhem Dungeons she has decided to remain in Nyhem to rescue her sister.

Something to Consider Before Joining
This is an Advanced Roleplay, meaning we expect from you to put forth effort, and care into each of your posts. We expect no less than 3 paragraphs from you in each post, we prefer quality over quantity. As this is an Advanced roleplay, we strongly encourage collaborations between you, and fellow players to help minimize dialogue taking up smaller posts. If you need to talk to another person’s character, put it in a collab, it flows smoother, and is easier to be read by other players.
Posting standards won’t be rigid, but we do ask that you try to show up in the OOC and be an active participant that way to show you’re still interested. If we do not hear from a player in a two-week time period, they will be considered dropped out of the game. We understand life can be busy; all we ask is to be given notification if you’ll be away for a bit. We do ask that you do try to get an in-character post up within a two-week period, although we will keep the plot moving if we’re being held up by a small number of players just to keep things moving along. I’m sure each and every one of you have experiences of games grinding to a halt because one player is holding up the plot, we’re going to try to not let that happen.
If you’re the kind of player who joins a game but has a habit of dropping it on a whim, please move along. The colossal graveyard of failed roleplays exist because of players like you and GMs that refuse to enforce standards and I’m not putting up with that. That said, if you have to drop because you just aren’t enjoying it or something came up, I totally get it. All I ask is you give it a solid effort and talk to me and MacabreFox if you have concerns, ideas, or would like to suggest how to make the game more enjoyable. Honestly, we don’t bite! We want this to be something fun that people can feel like it’s a fun, low-pressure roleplay that doesn’t require a huge commitment to enjoy.
Being in advanced, obviously acceptable spelling and grammar and punctuation are expected, but don’t feel like you have to be an English major being graded or anything. We all make mistakes, and a lot of people roleplay to improve their writing skills, so welcome aboard! Just please proofread your stuff before posting and make an effort and everything will be fine. All that’s expected for length is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2-3 paragraphs, and collaborations are more than welcome – there will be links to a couple Titanpads for anyone to use, although if you go that route, please try to finish the collabs in a timely manner and try not to tie them up so others can use it. Just leave a disclaimer at the top for what the status of a collab is at (e.g. who’s involved, if it’s still a work in progress, if it’s finished and can be erased, etc.) so anyone taking a look can quickly see what’s going on.
The Scary Part of our RP: The Rules
1. You God mod. You have been warned. This includes being untouchable in combat, reading people’s thoughts, knowing and reacting to events that your character can’t possibly have known about, any far-fetched ideas on magic, creatures, or any laws of the world you think of breaking, of any sort, and so on. Basically, common sense. We’re telling a story, not hacking a video game.
2. Mary and Gary Sues will be ejected into the deep frigid waters of Irman Sea to contemplate how awful they are. This includes characters who are irritatingly perfect, loved by everyone, always have the answers to all the problems, have no flaws, and painfully generic back stories that is like sandpaper for the eyes.
3. Approved races only. This means no made up species. The only approved races are: -Humans (Highly recommended) -Elves (available but would still recommend being a human: If you were to be a elf your role and character would be greatly restricted)
4. Technology is limited to medieval Europe and middle east, with a touch of fantasy. So no guns, assault rifles, or enchanted weapons, etc. If you have questions about weapons and armor, ask away!
5. Original characters only. Obvious rip offs of established characters will also not be tolerated. Failing to do this will force your character to be removed from the list of potential candidates.
6. If you want to make up an organization or company or whatever for your back story, that’s allowed as long as it doesn't mess around with existing canon or contradict the timeline.
7. Character deaths are a possibility, but unlikely. It will be context sensitive and likely will not happen unless a character drops out, plans it out with the GM, or generally puts themselves in an impossible situation to escape from. Expect injuries and wounds to happen, though. If your character is caught in a heavy battle without the upper hand, please treat it realistically. I don’t want to see somebody take on 20 mercs and walk out like nothing happened.
9. Pre-made characters are permitted, provided you update them to fit this RP and take the time to make them fit. Please no copy/paste jobs without taking into consideration CS formats and the rules.
10. If you’re going to go away or feel like dropping out, please let us know if possible. It’s a courtesy thing and annoying as hell when people vanish without saying anything. It has this nasty habit of hanging up RPs while they wait for somebody to return. That said, real life comes first so if things come up, your character will be treated as an NPC until you return. Don’t feel pressured to post if you have real life stuff to worry about! That said, I hope if you’re joining this you’ll be able to spend a decent amount of time with it.
11. Romances are allowed in the RP, but it will not be the focus of this RP. If you feel the need to be a smut monster, please take it to PMs. Likewise, if you’re making a character with the sole intention of scoring, they will also be ejected in the deep waters of the Irman Sea to be eaten by our lovely Kraken.
In regards to the Character Sheet, please review the following sheets below for Nation, or for Individual. We expect your character, or Nation to be fully fleshed, not a novel, but we need to know the details on your characters. Background information is important, and must consist of at least 5 paragraphs minimum, the more the merrier as they say. We want to know where they grew up, were their parents involved, were they rich or poor, who influenced them, what did they like to do as children, etc. As for your character's Appearance, a WRITTEN description is mandatory, especially if you have an Individual Character. We want to know how tall they are, how much they weigh, what does their hair look like, their eye colour, skin tone, body build, what does their voice sound like when they speak? We want to know as much detail as you can possibly provide. Please refrain from Anime type pictures, and use realistic ones if you wish to use a picture. We can’t take your character seriously if they have blue/pink/purple hair, etc.
Please take a look at the Reference Sheet, there is much information within that can answer any questions you may have, from practiced religion, NPCs, Kingdom Information, various Maps, Historical Information, other species, and other useful bits you may find necessary when writing your CS.
By submitting a Character Sheet, be it Individual or a Nation, you hereby adhere to all of RPG Rules, as well as our own. Meaning if we ask you to do something, and you don't, that is grounds for us to remove you from the roleplay.

Background: (A detailed and accurate history and upbringing of your character from childhood to now, with consideration of timeline events and what’s stated for lore. We’re trying to keep this accurate, and this section helps me determine your writing ability and dedication to wanting to be in this RP. As well, the more information you provide, the better you understand your character and play them better. If your character had a particular role or were special forces or something notable, please describe their time in that service and how they got in/ out of it. I don’t want to see something like ‘And Johnny was a Spectre’ tacked on as an afterthought. If you write a two short paragraph bio, it tells me you didn’t put any thought into it. If you think your character can hold up for a month and a half without a GM, it’s probably good enough. A simple rule of thumb; if something sounds ridiculous or far-fetched, it probably is. I hope this is still open because I have a finished CS for you to read (;
Name: Aurelia Vyncetta Age: 26 Gender: Female Position: High Magister Personality: Aurelia is a unique woman, she is very head strong in a good way. She let's no one talk down to her, nor does she tolerate inequality. Aurelia is loud, and well spoken, she is not afraid to yell or raise her voice; though she is a rather benign person in general, she's just a scary lady when her feathers get ruffled. She has a level head on her shoulders and prefers to speak the truth, as nothing can be honestly done with a lie. One cannot found an empire on lies. One can but it will crumble. Not only is she honest, but she prefers logical thinking over emotional problems. Aurelia is well-educated and enjoys scribing as a hobby, and reading books on ancient lore, mainly involving mythical creatures, and studying the stars and constellations. One could say she is a very curious person and does not like it when people avoid her questions.
Appearance: Underneath all her layers of robes and tunics, Aurelia is a curvaceous woman, with an hourglass figure. She stands at 5’7” with pallid skin, and strange eyes of green-gold hues. Her nose is gently sloped, and the tip of her nose is round, though not a button nose. She has raven black hair that is worn normally in a braid that encircles her head, when it is loose, it is wavy and reaches to the midst of her back. Her voice is stern, yet very feminine, not high pitched by any means, but rather, a voice of a woman that commands respect.
Background: Born in Raeldar, in the mountain village of Ug’Parth, Aurelia Vyncetta, grew up in secrecy. Her parents knew she was stranger than most children, especially when bowls and plates would levitate around her, making the baby Aurelia laugh with delight. Her parents grew frightful of their daughter as she grew older with time as they began locking her in the cellar of their home, as a way to restrict her powers. They knew she had been touched with magic, but they desperately wanted Aurelia to be a normal girl. She was their only child, and none of their forefathers and foremothers wielded magick, making her a first in their family; or at least to their knowledge.
It wasn't until Aurelia turned 8, that the the mages from the Summer Isles came to pay them a visit. Her parents cried mournfully at the thought of the mages coming to take their beloved daughter away. The little girl had already grown tall for her age, and had a strange, unseemly, and almost an unnatural maturity. The mages sat with Aurelia for hours, spending three days total at her home before whisking her away. They had come with small tests that would prove her innate magical ability. With much luck, Aurelia passed all five tests. One test had her conjure a ball of light, one made of water, and one of fire. They found she could also levitate items around her, but not out of arms reach. Not only did she prove to be proficient, they were astounded by how Aurelia was able to proceed with her magickal abilities while she was caged inside the cellar like an animal. Nevertheless, the mages took Aurelia from her parents after paying them a hefty sum to see their daughter off to the isles. She remembered seeing her parents wave goodbye from the window of the horse drawn carriage.
Upon arrival, Aurelia found she liked the isles very much. The isle itself was different from her mountainous village home. Here the School of Mages, where they taught all who could wield the power, became Aurelia’s for the next several years. Within the school, she learned to master her magickal abilities, and quickly rose to the top of her class. Her fellow classmates considered her to be a very studious Mage, with little time for amusements, or for any of them. In truth, Aurelia had grown up feeling lonely, unable to find a friend. Left in the dank cellars of her home, Aurelia remembered the first time the magick had acknowledged her thoughts. She was only 4 years of age, when Aurelia had conjured a bright ball of light. She had wanted so badly to see, and at first, the bright light blinded her, causing the light to dim as she shielded her eyes. Peeking from behind her fingers she could see the ball of light begin to twirl and bounce about the room, causing her to giggle. Those nights, alone in the cellar, made her appreciate her talents as a Mage because without them, she would have never acquired the discipline to live alone, and to live with herself.
At the school, Aurelia could focus solely on honing her skills. Her closest friends were the instructors there. They offered better insight on how to control the flow of magic and tap into her surrounding energy field to strengthen her spells. At the time she could only cast a spell for as long as her body would allow. Over time, with meditation, Aurelia could endure longer spells, but found herself sleeping for days after casting them.
She excelled in the four major principles of magick, being Illusion, Alteration, Destruction, Restoration; the other two classes Summoning and Shapeshifting were of no particular interest to her so she never took much time to learn the spell tomes other than the required tomes for class. Alteration and Illusion were her strong points, she especially enjoyed the light works of magick, being able to conjure giant orbs of coloured light, or shrouding herself in shadows, just by altering the light particles. She practiced Face Change, which allowed her to change her face, or at least what others saw. She could hold the spell for hours, but a whole day would exhaust her. Once after accidentally setting a classmate on fire, her instructors encouraged her to master the destruction and restoration spells. Just in case it happened again. She could conjure a ball of flame and grow it in size, and turn it into a gout of fire. That technique proved must useful in constructing a fire wall. Aurelia experimented on herself on how to cast restoration spells. She would burn herself with a burst of fire on her forearms and heal the wounds. She even went as far as to cut her biceps or outer thigh, and heal those wounds as well. She stopped at nothing to learn all that she could. To her, magick was all that she had known, and all that she could do. Even while she attended the school, Aurelia learned archery, and swordsmanship. She began lessons in how to fight with staves as well, determined never to be unable to defend herself in a physical or magickal match.
In the following years, Aurelia took it into her own hands to make the decision to leave the college for once. The headmaster wrote a letter of consideration to the King, advising that he take on their brightest pupil. Aurelia moved to Miserth Keep in Nyhem the following autumn. King John Remonnet, assigned her a tower in the west wing, one that loomed high above a luxuriant courtyard, allowing her to watch the setting sun and track the moon and stars. Her first years in the keep were hard for her to adjust to as she was not used to castle life. So many servants rushing about, attending banquets, galas, feasts and festivals of the like; it proved to be a cumbersome distraction for her studies and research. She found the meetings that occured between the high council members, the king and her, often went nowhere and frustrated her greatly. The talks mainly consisted of solicting King John's help for projects across the countryside instead of solving the innercity problems; such as feeding the poor or improving health She admired the king for his fairness, and appreciated that he was a more level headed ruler than his brother before him, Heylot Remonnet. She became well acquainted with a Duncan De Reimer, the king's head adviser. He seemed to be a most polite nobleman, but she perceived him to be a bit far too ambitious, but then again; who was she to compare? Oftentimes, Duncan and her would hold conversations after said meetings; sharing advice on magickal improvements, about what new spell she had discovered, or ways to promote magickal education for the common people. Times were different now, and while the mages were looked upon as a secretive group of people, some people still needed to be told that it was against the law to set a mage on fire for practising magick. As of recent, with the King's death, one that Aurelia found to be very suspicious, just like the Queen, who died in very mysterious circumstances three years prior; the entire kingdom of Formaroth had ascended into a frenzy with the seat of power up for grabs. Aurelia could only shake her head in disbelief that a chair, could drive people into madness, while none seemed to care much for the King himself. The funeral hadn't even occured yet, and people were already forgetting about their dead king. The Grand Temple in Nyhem would hold the funeral of the Formaroth's deceased ruler, and Aurelia would be there to attend.
@AndrewCooper@AJ1234@MacabreFox . Just to let you know the start date for the RP will be the 9th of September. I apologise for the late start but @Ala is currently abroad and unable to start her character sheet until the 2nd. I'm sorry about delay and I am sorry if this has inconvenienced you in any way.
I am considering joining as an individual character....ish. I was thinking i would be some mercenary army leader, with many troops, but not redunculus. So that it would be very beneficial to have me on ones side, but not game winning. I was thinking humans, heavy infantry with halberds and cuirasses and some other armour (not full plates) and some similarily armoured pavise crossbomen. About 1/3rd ranged troops. The characters primary motive would be money, so he's not that interested in the throne, to much work. With some hidden objectives of course.
So if i would like to put this up how would i do so? Nation sheet? Individual character? Is there some out of country war that has been going on recently? I was planning to return from a war, so i want the location to be logical for my chars start location.
Thoughts?
Also, pro tip. The map is small... like REALLY small. You should make a larger version, as in pixel size. It's hard to see the names.
That should be fine. Would a army of around 1000-2000 suffice? How well armed and trained would you say your troops are?
A individual character sheet should be fine.
As for out of continent wars; the Elven Imperium would likely hire mercenaries within Formaroth. Either to help put down a slave rebellion or fight a war with another continent. Your choice.
Thanks for bringing my attention to the map. I didn't realise it was so small. The original RPers were people I knew so we just used a facebook group to view pictures. I apologise and will fix it now.
Ey, don't apologize, i told you so you could improve the map.
I'll now make an initial draft of the character, it might even lack some stuff. But it will show what my character is roughly about. I also need to come up with a cool name.... Oh, and fun fact, "Nyhem" means NewHome in Swedish :P
Name: Claus Rotstein
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Position: Lieutenant at arms, Captain of the "Steel fist" mercenary group.
Personality: Brash and a bit boastful, he drives his men hard but not too much. He is known as a tough leader but fair. When he can he tries to fix up some extra bonuses for his men, and at times even pay from his own pockets.
Appearance: Claus Rotstein is rather tall, with a rough face with several minor scars and a large scar running across his nose from his right side eyebrow to the left side of his jaw. Dark hair and dull blue eyes. He wears a very nice tailored suit of plate armour with a lot of subtle, yet beutiful decor. The cuirass has his companies icon painted on it, the clenched white fist atop a black background. He carries a flamberge greatsword and a mace, he has a decorated battle horn and a decorated misericord dagger.
Background: His family was burghers of minor renown whom tended a region of farms for the lord of Scassia. was the second son and thus wouldn't inherit much. The local lord though took him in as a man at arms for his personal army, and as such he was trained to become a potent fighter. He served the lord for many years and was rather successful.... apart from his darker side. When he drank he became harsh and at times violent, and it showed that the monotone duties of his service in a low combat area made him take to the tankard more and more often. He finally took a step to far and was dismissed from service after punching a noble 3rd son and trying to approach his sister. He was demoted to lieutenant after his family helped him out.
His life now in ruins he took even more to the tankard and eventually got thrown out from his home. Eventually he joined the Steel fist mercenary company. He quickly got a recognition because of his great battle prowess and men at arms training. The varied duties also kept him from drinking, which his fellows from now on made sure so he didn't drink to much. After many years of service, the old company captain decided to retire, Claus Rotstein was selected for his outstanding service and promoted to captain.
The Steel fist now returns from a campaign in the north west, having fought for the elven kingdom in several conflicts during seven years. (The Steel fist has returned home from time to time during this period.) The steel fist consists of mainly battle hardened fighters, with some new trainees as with any army. The army has good knowledge in sieges as well.
Gear. Halberdiers, about this. But with halberds and some tassets. They carry maces as well. youtu.be/FH9yjmmAE3k?t=1m49s
Pavise crossbowmen, about the same but with a pavise shield and a heavy windup crossbow and a mace. The Steel fist numbers 1500 men, 500 of which are crossbowmen.
Skills and traits: Claus Rotstein is a skilled swordsman and has a strong voice, he is a potent commander.
