Player Name: The Kid Lantern
Character You Wish To Play:
Moral Alignment: Hero
Affiliation (what group/team/organization, if any, is your character affiliated with?): If the Fantastic Four ever come together he would stand by his sister. Without superpowers presently, he can't stand her or her nerdy boyfriend. The Avengers would also be cool.
Character Origin & Backstory:
Jonathan 'Johnny' Storm was the younger brother of Susan Storm until one night while rescuing a man from a lab fire... he became something more. A fireman now for nearly two years, 24 year old Johnny managed to save Phineas Horton from the lab he was working in and was accidentally exposed to one of the scientists' experiments, something he called 'Horton Cells.' Days later, it seemed like a fire that Johnny and other firemen were fighting was simply absorbed into his body. After this happened two or three times during the week something finally happened. Johnny burst into flames and quickly learned most of the limits of his powers.
Coming clean to his sister some days later while she was waiting for her nerdy and always late boyfriend Reed, Sue couldn't believe the man her brother was becoming. Always a joker, and often a pest, Johnny seemed serious about wanting to get into the superhero limelight. Using some 'unstable molecule' fabric that Reed Richards had patented [presumably to pay for his adventure into space] his sister helped fashion Johnny a mostly orange and black costume that worked with his body heat so that the clothes didn't burn away. Now Johnny fights fires and uses them as his ammunition against enemies of the world as... the HUMAN TORCH.
Powers and Abilities: Johnny has the ability to burst into flames. He can shoot blasts of fire and fireballs, absorb flames, create pillars of flame and domes of flame [think the very basic fire constructs, might build up to making a cage], as well as flight. His flames seem to be natural, as water and lack of oxygen can extinguish them. His most powerful attack, his nova blast, can level a few city blocks. The end result usually leaves him without power for a short time as well as completely exhausted. He's also trained in CPR and has experience working with the fire department in Greenwich Village.
Sample Story Arcs:
Skrull Invasion - After discovering his girlfriend is a shapeshifting Skrull, Torch does what he can to stop the threat of a full on invasion. Could there be other Skrulls in NYC?
War of Worlds - This is loosely inspired by the old fights between the android Torch and Namor, Namor and the forces of Atlantis will be caught destroying oil rigs and Torch will step in and an ongoing feud will ensue. Namor was an anti hero back in those days fighting the android, and here I see him more as an arch enemy and more off an asshole. He finds himself hating the Torch for making a fool of him... others could get in on a fight with Atlantis!

Johnny Storm stood in front of a long mirror in the bathroom of his Greenwich Village apartment on Bleecker Street. Johnny liked the west side of lower Manhattan. He studied at NYU before becoming a fireman at the
'Village fire department on 10th Street. some of his work clothes were laying around his living room. His sister, Sue, was also in his living room with an impatient look on her face. The blonde hadn't seen her brother this nervous about new clothes since his last year in high school...
"Hurry up already, Johnny. I have to meet Reed for lunch..." Sue said with a bit of a tone lowering her eyebrows and making a mean face at the door Johnny was behind.
"Just gimme another second to readjust some
stuff and I'll be right out. You sure this color scheme works?" Johnny asks from behind the door pulling at parts of his suit and trying to straighten the symbol on the shirt to a centered position.
"I dressed you for at least half of your school pictures..." Sue began saying as Johnny commented from under his breath in the bathroom...
"That's why half of them were awful..." he said with a slight grin and a short laugh.
"... and introduced you to at least a handful of your girlfriends. Give me a little credit?" Sue asked knowing none would probably be given.
Johnny stepped out of the bathroom and his sister made a face and nodded.
"You're sure you don't want a mask, little brother?" she asked
"I don't need a mask when I can just light my head on fire like this..." Johnny replied before lighting up and setting off the fire alarm in his kitchen.
Sue covered her ears while her newly clothed brother pulled it down from the ceiling and removed the battery. Johnny walked back into the living room and did a bit of a funny walk to try and wear in the boots. His sister smiled and texted her boyfriend and asked a serious question.
"Have you thought of your code name?" she asked.
"My what?" Johnny replied.
"Your code-name, your super hero alias?" she continued.
"What do you think of Fireman?" he asked sitting down.
"No." she said sternly.
"Hothead?" he asked, only getting a 'no' nod.
"Matchstick?" Johnny continued naming off names...
"Flamethrower, Fireball, Fiery Mask, Hothands, Sunfire..."
"No. No... No. Wasn't he a hero in the 40's? Definitely no. And I think there's a guy in Japan who beat you to that last one..." Sue replied.
"Damn," Johnny said putting his face in his hands, "I
really liked that last one too..."
"What about... the Human Torch? The 'Bugle can call you 'Torch' for short..." Sue suggested.
"Why didn't I think of that?" Johnny asked under his breath not knowing his sister could still hear him though she was headed for the door.
"Because you were the one born blonde, little brother. I just have a dye job... love ya." she said laughing and walking out of the door and down the stairs.
Johnny's apartment was on the fourth floor above a small coffee shop on the bottom floor called Eva's Cafe. The building was owned by an old Irish woman named Eva Sweeney who sat out front of the cafe at a few tables every evening to watch the city die down. She had no idea what she was looking at when a streak of fire bolted out of a top story window and through the evening air. The hero flew past the Washington Square Arch and said to himself...
"The Human Torch!"
