Delilah is shy and rather soft spoken, and she doesn’t like talking about herself when she can avoid it. In contrast she loves learning about other people, and will listen intently if someone tells her a story about themself. She exhibits a sort of innocence and naivete that often causes others to want to protect her despite being quite able to fend for herself, and she isn’t above capitalizing on it. While she dislikes violence and prefers not to employ it if it can be avoided, she knows the reality of the situation and is perfectly capable of using both the stun gun and shock baton she keeps with her. She grew up seeing everyone around her in situations of desperation, and believes that people who have more than what they need should give it to those who don’t. She doesn’t force this belief on others in her group, but extra money she has usually finds its way into the hands of those worse-off than her, and she sometimes likes to consider herself a modern Robin Hood.


Delilah was born to parents who couldn’t really afford a child, and as soon as she was old enough she was fending for herself. She rarely ever saw her parents and for all intents and purposes was a street urchin for most of her young life, during which she learned how to pickpocket, how to hide, and when necessary, how to defend herself. At the age of 13 she was taken in by the person who would become her mentor, and who she considered her big brother. He was a member of a notorious anti-authority hacking group, and taught her how to slice security systems. She’s not a master hacker by any means, but she’s able to get into most standardized systems and find exploits to use, making her an invaluable asset to a group of Scroungers. Ultimately her adoptive brother disappeared, and she still doesn’t know what happened to him. Part of her goal as a Scrounger is to find out.


Tends to keep her face hidden behind welding goggles and a gas mask when in public, has an old music player that she takes wherever she goes and can usually be found listening to when she’s alone. She's also openly gay.

Adalwolf “Ada” Stroud

Background & Personality
Ada was born in New Denver, to a distant mother, a strict father, and a charismatic older brother. She has few traditionally pleasant memories of her family, despite their opulent lifestyle. Her only memories involve strict training--both she and her brother were being groomed to become part of a complex criminal organization that her parents belonged to. In fact, they were born simply to become another cog in the organization, just like their parents were. The organization, known as Espevada, was generations old, and was run by family dynasties that used planned breeding in order to create their members, rather than recruiting from the outside. Because of this, the organization was full of violently loyal individuals, each one related to one another in some way, creating a strong bond and sense of responsibility that kept Espevada strong for so long.

However, there was one member that abhorred the organization--that person was Ada’s brother, Vinzente. Somehow, the loyalty indoctrination program he went through as a child was ineffective; despite this, he pretended that it worked, and continued his training. By the time he was 20, he knew all the secrets of the organization, and was set to be matched to one of his cousins to continue the breeding cycle. Instead, he exposed the organization to the authorities--causing a small war, which the family lost very quickly.

Unlike her brother, Ada was fiercely loyal to the family, and was extremely diligent in her training. She was 16 when her brother betrayed Espevada--and she immediately volunteered to assassinate him, desperate to prove her worth to the family. They agreed, believing that she would have the best chance to get close to him.

She did get close to him, but when the time came to kill him, she hesitated. They had a heated discussion, and slowly he was breaking down the walls built up by her loyalty training, leaving her extremely confused. She was still deciding whether to kill him or not when a shot rang through the air, and Vinzente slumped into her arms, whispering his last words to her before dying. Traumatized, she dropped his body and her weapon, and watched in shock as her mother came out of the shadows with a gun pointing at her. Apparently, she did not believe her daughter would be able to kill, and decided to do the job for her--and now that she sensed Ada’s loyalty wavering, she decided that she was a failed member of Espevada and must also be terminated. Before she could pull the trigger, the authorities showed up--while her mother was distracted, Ada fled the scene, remembering her brother’s last words: Go to the Undercity.

Ada followed his advice. For over ten years, she has been living in the Undercity, making money as a bounty hunter and a bodyguard. Despite her relative success, she has never been able to earn even a tiny fraction of the money she had while growing up, but she can never quite shake her sophisticated tastes, and often goes into debt to fund exquisite clothing, lavish parties, and expensive foods. Because of her poor financial skills, she fits right in with other Scroungers, although the general lifestyle disgusts her. She tends to be extremely loyal to Scroungers, as they have supplanted her previous family--and family always comes first. Although many might find her stuck up and too high maintenance, most can overlook this due to her loyalty (and the awesome parties she throws helps too).

She has distanced herself from anything related to Espevada, and often wonders what happened to the members that survived the war following Vinzente's betrayal. News reports claim that all members were either killed or apprehended, but considering that neither of those happened to her, she has no idea if more family members are lurking around New Denver... or even in the Undercity.

Other details:
Ada has been making her living as a bodyguard and a bounty hunter, and so has all the tools of those trades, including basic weaponry, as well as her favorite pistol she named Vinz. One of her goals is to find her mother one day and kill her with her pistol, to avenge her brother’s death. She dresses like a New Denver citizen, though the quality of her clothing is severely lower than that of a true surface dweller.

Leti is thin, athletic, but still thin. This is from giving the majority of her food to the other scroungers, and lying that she has enough. Her dark hair is usually in a pony tail, but when untied it tumbles in waves past her shoulders. If she'd lived in New Denver, her dark skin would be much darker, courtesy of her parents' heritage, but the lack of sun has made her a bit pale, and even a bit sickly looking at times. She is usually wearing loose, baggy pants, a multipocketed vest, and boots, all of which are severely worn.

Background:
Leti has never seen the skies over New Denver. She was born and raised in Undercity. Her father operated one of the scummier bars, while her mother was a prostitute that worked therein. Her parents were not married, nor did they live with one another. They were simply business partners. They took turns housing and feeding Leti, teaching her skills that were necessary to surviving the Undercity. When Leti began running around with others as a young teen, her mother started to teach her how to seduce men into doing things for her. Her dad on the other hand, taught her the ways of brawling, of using your surroundings as weapons, distractions, and escapes.

She recently joined a new group of Scroungers, and she was often the Bait. Her main purpose was to try and lure unsuspecting men and women into being mugged, or distracting them while her friends committed the real thievery. She rarely visits' her parents' bar, if only out of paranoia of bringing trouble down on their heads.

Personality:
Leti never gets especially close with anyone, usually treating them as acquaintances at best. She can be very chatty, but keeps it from getting overly personal. She's definitely not shy, knowing every new person can be a new ally or target. She does have a soft spot for young children though, and it has been known to distract her from time to time.

Other details: Leti's biggest goal in life is to simply feel the sun on her skin. To reach New Denver and actually belong there. But she knows that she needs a lot of money in order to even think about that. And while she's often seducing men and women, she's never gone all the way, and often finds herself from ever expressing any sort of interest in people who aren't targets. This is because she's learned that everyone either dies, turns on you, or becomes a target. She'd never admit it, but she hopes that when she finally reaches the sunshine, she'll have a partner with her.

Keith

Background and Personality: Keith was 5 years old when the apartment that his parents had spent their life savings on was burned to the ground. During the fire, he woke to a smoke-filled room and no parents in sight. The door was too hot for the child to push open on his own, and he was trapped in the blaze, soon to pass out from a lack of oxygen. The biggest gang in the area was running a weapons shop out of the apartment below his, and rushed to put the fire out and protect their asset when they found Keith. Normally, the group that found him would have put the fire out and left the kid for dead, but the group's leader was stricken by Keith's resemblance to his own dead brother, and was unable to leave him to die from his burns. Jarrod, the leader, took Keith to the gang's doctor to patch him up. However, he suffered major burns on his face, and has covered it for most of his life since.

After the fire, Keith was told by Jarrod that his parents had died in the fire, and that the gang was his new family. Before long, Keith forgot his last name, and the gang truly did become his family. Jarrod took Keith under his wing and taught him how to survive in the dangerous Undercity while under the protection of a large gang.

As Keith grew older, he began to resent the Undercity and its residents. The questions about his parents' death haunted him as he had never fully accepted that the fire had been an accident. When he was 8, he began running errands for the gang and quickly became acquaintances with many local gang-affiliated businessman and businesswomen. When he was 12, he was allowed to go on scavving missions and began to experience the dark underbelly of the Undercity's criminal world. Keith witnessed people killed over things as small as an unpaid meal, and as serious as a missing drug shipment. Keith was always larger for his age, though, and eventually became the muscle of the groups that he was a part of, being told to beat people in the name of the gang, and eventually gained a reputation for his ability to beat anyone into submission in three hits or less.

When Keith was 19, the gang he belonged to was absorbed by the largest gang in the Undercity, the leader of which Keith knew only as The Queen. This bode well for Keith's gang, meaning more protection and that their actions carried heavier weight, backed up by more manpower than anyone else. The first assignment that Jarrod was sent on was to retrieve payment from a local pawn shop owner who hadn't payed his protection fees. Jarrod took Keith, being that he was at that point the strongest member of their original gang. The group, however, was ambushed when inside the pawn shop. The owner had recruited help from a rival gang for a lower protection fee. In the scrap that followed, Keith took three down, but not before Jarrod was shot in the chest and died before Keith could say goodbye.

Stricken by the loss of the only person that Keith had ever relied on, he gave up speech almost entirely and began to take jobs that were more and more violent, grunting his acceptance of his missions at his superiors. Keith went on like this for about four years, taking jobs that would allow him to take his frustrations with the Undercity out through violence. Eventually, the violence gave no satisfaction to Keith any longer, and without Jarrod there to lead him, he felt disconnected. The gang no longer felt like his family, and he sought out something that might fill a similar role.

This is how he came to the Scroungers. His gang affiliation gave him connections that would be invaluable to a group like theirs, and everyone in the Undercity could use protection. He still refrains from speech more often than not, rarely giving his input on anything, but is working on improving his communication to become a more valuable asset to the group.

Other details: Wears a mask that covers his whole head to hide his burns, as well as Jarrod's old gas mask. One full sleeve of gang-related tattoos.
