Looks like mission two it is.

There are plenty of people who can fly the ship <_>

We have a cyborg that can run it and a Valis that can take it over and also run it and a least one fly boy probably.

Eight has cybernetic implants around his eye and on the side of his face and the first thing Bruce notices is that he's really pale?

If there's anything anyone wants to do before the mission starts, I suggest doing it soon. If everyone's okay with it, I'm going to make a post tomorrow of the ship landing and the mission officially beginning. If you need more time for whatever you want, just say so and I can extend it.

I got nothing, but I might post anyway.

ALSO just a general info tidbit here but if anyone needs a gun, small explosive, large explosive, something modified into a gun or explosive, or just weapons in general: Deraen is your guy.

For now I'd like to keep us at a one characters per player ratio. Maybe once we progress farther in and when we don't have anyone waiting on the waiting list I'll allow multiple characters, but not yet.

They don't appear to have mouths, so I don't believe so. You'd obviously have to talk to @Raxacoricofallapatorius for confirmation though.

By the way, not everyone who isn't boarding the Babylon are going into their fighters. We're going to need people in the Alamo to protect it from boarders as well. It obviously won't be the main target of pirates and any XRF that may or may not follow, but it would be a target nonetheless.

He talks to humans and other species through telepathy and does not have any form of verbal communication if that's what you're asking, though he understands verbal communication. When it comes to messages over an intercom or other communication device the thought-speech is translated to audio by the machine and so is "heard" as audio.

Would his telepathy work on Eight? I sort of had this idea that Eight would be able to detect telepathic static wavelengths but because his brain is part computer he wouldn't be able to translate it into words.

That's actually a really fascinating concept, I hadn't thought about it. To reference the Animorphs series, Andalites were able to communicate without trouble to a race of highly advanced androids called the Chee, but their makeup is probably completely different than Eight's since the nanites that rebuilt him were of human construction (I assume, from reading his bio). I don't know the exact parts of the brain activated by thought-speech since K.A. Applegate never explained it, but I theorize that it works much like verbal communication, barring the actual verbalization, in that the speaker's telepathically projected message is received in the speech-centers of the brain and translated into words that the hearer can comprehend. Eight's ability to understand would be dependent on how much is left of the part of his brain that processes language.

However, given that intercom communication translates thought-speech into audio (this is canon in the books) I think it's safe to assume that Eight won't have any trouble understanding Deraen, unless the robotic and human parts of his brain conflict with translation.

On an unrelated note, I was going to comment on how similar Eight's healing/transformation was to the Doctor Who episode "The Empty Child" and how nanites reconstructed what they thought was a healthy human, though of course you've added your own twist with the computer integration, I was wondering if that's where you got your inspiration from.

And how then does this apply to sentient balls of lightning? Or dare I suppose that Cy cannot communicate with Darren.

I wouldn't know having never read about an encounter between an Andalite and such a creature, so I guess that's on your end to figure out how Cy's physiology copes with the difference. Since he can communicate linguistically with other creatures I wouldn't think it would be an issue. How do the Valis communicate in their natural form?

I think it would be Deraen can't communicate with Cy cause Deraen can understand verbal speech.

Mommmmyyyyyy... Are you my mommy?

Technically those were nanogenes. Originally Eight was a character from a Star Trek fanfiction I was working on. As you can probably tell from the name he was a Borg drone that was freed from the collective and possessed all the technical specifications of every ship the Borg ever assimilated. When I adapted the character I still wanted him to have a vast knowledge of ships downloaded into his head and computer components making up parts of his body. Really I think the inspiration for it came from Stargate Atlantis where they repair Elizabeth Weir's body by having Replicator nanites replace the damaged cells in her brain. Since I wanted there to be data about ships in there too I sort of tacked on the idea that the nanites built part of the stations computer into his head. I suppose the answer would be no, though I do remember when I was writing it out the Doctor's line: "Couldn't tell what was gas mask and what was skull but they did there best." popping into my head so some of it may have come from there.
