Name: Onodera Nagamasa (小野寺 長政)
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Grade: 1st Year, High School
School Name: Noriaki North
Organization: N/A
Esper Level: 4
Appearance:Personality: Ever since he was first ejected from his mother’s womb and left to plague upon the world of humanity, there have been three words common amongst Nagamasa’s beleaguered family, case workers and teachers in describing him: dickbag, delinquent and dilettante. At first glance, one may wonder why exactly this clean-cut seeming boy is deserving of such an … unsightly portrayal; such musings are immediately dashed upon interacting with him, for it is then that one is truly exposed to the endless ocean of restrained douchenozzlism that churns beneath the surface of his skin.
Nagamasa you see, may seem to be your average, rather unassuming hormonal teenage boy of fifteen, the fact is that he has utterly no respect whatsoever for the things that he doesn’t enjoy in life, which can range from neo-feudalistic plutocracies to hapless Level 0s (especially if they are affiliated with Skill-Out). It is due to this view of the world that he can so easily deliver shockingly venomous tongue-lashings with the same brevity of one’s attempt at ordering a Happy Meal from McDonalds, caring little for feelings of the people he tramples underneath. A contrarian of the highest caliber, he seems to be frequently finding himself into vamoosed into violent verbal variances with others, always poking away at other’s red buttons under the veneer of respectability that his smug smiles seem to provide.
What this hides, however, is the anger that boils within him, an anger at the world and society that has developed over time. Despite being a smug dick seventy-five percent of the time, he can be particularly broody and standoffish from week to week, responding to all who approach him with more biting sarcasm or venom than usually so. He modulates between states, one moment cheerily laying into you before bluntly explaining why he thinks you're only worthy of becoming worm food in one of the most dickish manners ever measured had there been a scale of obnoxious jackassery in existence (alongside certain individuals in his sphere of acquaintances).
As such, it is quite obvious to understand why he holds society in relative contempt, frequently refusing to attend class from time to time (and in the process generally avoiding truancy officers with remarkable skill and grace), and associating with the seedy lowlifes and gangs of Academy City in his free time. Indeed, his delinquency is a defining feature many associate with him, which involves slacking off, violence and whatever flavour of the month crime seems to be most appealing for the month. School for him is really an afterthought, one that he attends when he feels like it (which is when people start remembering he should be present).
His laissez-faire attitude, however, is not merely limited to school. As mentioned prior, the teenage boy is especially dilettantish, engaging himself in all forms of activity only to drop them when they begin to bore him. While it had provided him with quite a breadth of knowledge that he leverages to his advantage from to time, this “serial hobbyist” nature, a hedonistic search for simply greater pleasure no matter what it entails, has not been one he has put effort into, with much of his engagements, like his education, a seeming afterthought. It’s as if he is simply going through the motions, leaving his due diligence abandoned in a disused alleyway far from home.
Surprisingly, Nagamasa is also quite a spiritual person, subscribing to the beliefs of Anglican Christianity (his family possessing a long history of affiliating with the Church beginning in the Taishō period). His religion serves as one of his moral foundations, though since his descent into greater criminality, has viewed it with a resigned sense of understanding that yes, his actions may be unjust, but he simply does not care. However, the loyalty and trust he gives to those who truly connect with him, and the mercy and charity that he can display from time to time, are traits of his that have been drilled into him from birth, and the few instances of any engagement in social work, while still as lackluster as much of what else he does, is how he tries to reconcile his wish to also be a good Christian.
Biography: A native of Yokohama, Japan, Onodera Nagamasa was born to rather unfortunate circumstances - a family stricken by poverty after unwise investment decisions made by his father, who descended into a deep depression soon after, while his mother’s sickly health worsened as their conditions did so. Growing up, he knew little of familial love, with both his parents having dedicated themselves to their work so that the household finances, having dropped dramatically following his birth, would not stagger into even greater disarray.
It would be this awkward, distant lifestyle that he continued late into elementary school, where he first began his delinquent ways. Despite attempts to rein him in, the boy grew even more rebellious, refusing to submit to the authority of his parents or teachers. It would be a situation that worsened upon the death of his mother, for, while their relationship had been a cool one, he had respected her presence, and her death had also brought even greater pain to his father. Their relationship deteriorated at an even greater magnitude, and soon enough Nagamasa began to act out, seeking freedom from the home life that suffocated him so.
He found his refuge in the Power Curriculum Program, leaving Yokohama for Academy City upon successfully unlocking his abilities. It was an exhilarating experience, being independent from the authority of his old school and his parents. Yet this … was not to last, and he fell into the habit of utilising his powers for his own selfish advantage, frequently skipping out on classes he didn’t enjoy to engage in his criminal hobbies. No matter what his new teachers tried, he kept hiding away, safe in the abilities granted by his Esper status.
Life now for Nagamasa, it seems, consists mostly of beating up any thugs that seek to usurp his sphere of influence, as well as attending classes that he actually enjoys (having left the others to his school textbooks).
Esper Power:Nagamasa’s ability is named
Hidden Boundary, which provides him with the capability to hide his presence from other people. It is both an active and passive power, making use of the effects of AIM fields to either stop people from realising his existence by stimulating the memory pathways of the brain into reading any signals involving him as errors when in its active state, or disrupt the Normal Reality to reduce his noticeability and distinctiveness, generating what can be essentially described as a SEP field that interferes with the short-term memory banks of others.
The active state of his power is immense in its range thanks to the large “control area” provided by his AIM field generation, which means that he essentially “never existed” for the duration of his power in work. The magnitude of this effect is variable, and the greater the number of people he affects the more of a toll it takes upon his body. When it wears off, however, the residual AIM disruption continues to exist for a temporary time, and people will therefore take some effort to actually remember that he is an existing being.
Skills:As a delinquent, Nagamasa has involved himself in a number of spats and fights, and has grown into a remarkably skilled brawler and knifefighter. His dilettantish tendency to involve himself in all sorts of activities has also provided with him a breadth of knowledge that he can make use of.
