The bed was comfortable and you slept soundly. In the morning you were greeted by the sun through your window. The smell of something delicious was alerting your nose to the food that awaited you. As you did the hygiene routine and dressed for the chores ahead the hunger grew strength from the smells. you opened the door and to the dinning room to find the food and Tycus waiting for you.

"Good morning hope you slept well. I took the liberty of imagining something great for breakfast." He sat in Marcus's chair. Hope you gave some thought to our conversation earlier. I would like to give you the book I your chair to read at your leisure. It describes the fundamentals of magic and how to channel your ability for greater results. I'll answer any questions you may have along the way."

"Good morning Tycus. How are you this morning?" Liz asked. She knew he wasn't real but she treated him like she did anyone else. She picked the book up gently and looked at it. "I will eat it this afternoon." She carefully set the book on the table before helping herself to the food that the cat had created for her. "I will have to work on the garden and yard but there should still be time to read some of it."

The living magic purred at you. "Well do try the eggs they are good this morning." Tycus cleaned his paws and sat across from you quietly as you ate. The house was quiet and although you were a slave you could have done worse. A bell rang on Tycus. "Do excuse me I'm being summoned." He vanished. He was right the eggs were good today. Out side you heard a wagon pull up and the yelling and raging of something large.

Tilted her head curious about the noise. 'Must be a new arrival.' she thought. Curious she stood up and followed the noise. What kind do creature would it be this time, she wondered. Why did Marcus need this many creatures? But she knew it was none of her business. Her job was to take care of them. Which meant she needed to know about this new arrival. She followed the noise to discover what creature would be added to her list of responsibility.

The cage was shut by the time you shuffled to the pens from the thread that now linked your ankles. It was so majestic. It did not fight or struggle it lost the fight and the cage it wan in just crushed the creatures spirit.

Ithikan whistled at the sight. "That was a rare catch you must free it. Unlike the rest of us that creature being subjected to captivity will die on its lack of freedom. It will not eat or drink and slowly fade away. It is one of perhaps a handful of rare creatures left in this world."

Liz stared at the creature in shock and surprise. it saddented her that Ithikan thought that it would die. She knew that some creatures couldn't survive outside of their environment. She hoped that the other was wrong. She didn't want something so beautiful to die. She wanted it to live forever even if she knew it was impossible. She sighed. She would do what she could for the beautiful creature.

The creature didn't thrash or screech it simply laid there in the cell. The food from earlier was still sitting in the tray. The creature looked lifeless but the breathing reassured you it was just still. "How is the day?" Tycus asked head tilted to one side.

"I don't know." Liz said honestly. She headed over to the new creature's cage. She reached through the bars and stroked the beast. She could almost feel the creature's sadness at the loss of it's freedom. "I know sweetie. Losing your freedom is hard but that doesn't mean you have to give up." She told the beast. She remember how hard it had been for her to adjust to not having her freedom. She had chosen to live.

"I have something that may help but I would need you and your opposable thumbs. If you would follow me?" Tycus mad his way into the house and pawed at the first door on the left. The door unlocked and swung inward to the left. Inside was a single chair next to (musical instrument of your choice). "Marcus doesn't play this anymore and I had the feeling you might be interested in learning."

Liz followed Tycus into the house once again. She was curious what he wanted to show her. She smiled when she saw the violin. Her father had been pressuring her for years to learn the piano. She had had no interest and had refused. She loved music though and had always been drawn to the violin. She had heard that her mother had know how to play it. She sat on the chair and picked up the instrument. "Why do you think this would help?"

"For you. You don't seem like you were born into this life. I get the impression that you were someone else prior to being a slave. Someone with skills and purpose. Here you can be what you were not what you are."

"I was a healer Tycus. Not a musician." Liz told him as she tried the strings. "I've never played an instrument before." she told him honestly. She didn't know if she coukd learn or not. "I will see if I can learn it after my chores." she reluctantly put the instrument down and stood to her feet.

"Oh, I have a good sense of these things. I'm sure you will find you not only like the violin, but you have a good talent for it. I'm going to leave this door open for you, and some sheet music can be found here as well. This book of how to with pictures on where to place your hands for each note should help out."

Liz nodded. She was glad that he was going to leave the room open for her. She would come back as soon as she could. She was looking for to trying the violin. It would make her feel closer to the mother she barely know. She went back outside to take care of the animals and the garden . She loved caring for things. It was something that had always brought her joy.

There were various blooms on the groups of hanging vines over some of the stone arches and around the fountain bushes of wild flowers were also blooming. Thew sun was particularly warm and the thought of finding some shade and some water was sounding better as the day went on. Tycus even made mention of water and magically made a small stream flow around the western side of the property. "There, you can cool off in the stream." The stream was cool and the water was clear. The ankle tether was making the trip hard to get there. Tycus saw the hampered steps and shook his head. "Sorry there is nothing I can do with that."

"It's alright Tycus. The harder we work for something the more that something is worth. The things that mean the most to us are the things we had to work hard to get." Liz told the cat honestly. She didn't mind the struggle. But she wondered about he restriction. Not that she would ask. That wasn't her place. It took a long time but eventually she reached the water. "I've seen more of you then our master."

Tycus nodded. "The Master spends most of his nights in study. He will be resting in the next few months I think. The research is taking its toll on him." Tycus yawned lazily and stretched. "At least in the house the shackle tether is gone. I had an argument about that. Told him why nothing got done was because the servant couldn't move."

"Resting? For months?" Liz asked in disbelief. Sure she didn't see the master much but that didn't meant that she never wanted to see him. She was very curious about him. She was trying to understand him. Which was hard when she rarely saw him. He was so different from everyone she had ever met. Now it sounded like she wouldn't see him for months.

Tycus smiles. "Oh nothing like that. I just mean he will be doing other things then research and his experiments. He calls it resting. You should be given time of from the other tasks minus the feeding of course. I'll go see to it and make sure he remembers." Tycus disappears in mid stride. The air was cool and the sky a clear bluer with intermittent clouds.

Liz frowned at that. She wasn't sure that she had understood the cat correctly. Did he mean that she would get days off? That made no sense. Slaves didn't get days off. Plus who would take care of the creatures? She had come to care for the beast and didn't want them to suffer anymore then necessary. Please that bird had just arrived. They couldn't let it due. If she cared for it the poor thing might live awhile.
