GM Notes:
Am I crazy?
Yes, somewhat.
I've been craving a fantasy group roleplay for a while. Some get off the ground, others don't. That's how things work. The same could be said for any other genre of roleplays like slice of life, nation, science fiction or even Pokemon or Naruto. My other inkling has been to do something with either Legend of Korra, Naruto or Pokemon and right now I think Pokemon may be the easiest to work on so let's do it.
The expectations...
I'm going to be looking for three to four other roleplayers who have a creative wild side who can also commit to something, even when they have school or work or lead a secret life fighting crime. I want a small group because it diminishes waiting time but also allows each player to have their say in matters and give input while being happy and productive. I don't want to rule RPs with an iron fist or nag people to post. I want to create a story that people want to take part in, and when it becomes fun as opposed to an obligation, posts and ideas tend to come more naturally.
Now in terms of post size and frequency I'm going to be fair and say that if you give me four to five paragraphs every week or so, I'll be happy. I use Rounds to run my RPs and it ensures people remain included. Each Round begins with my post and then everyone else is allowed to post whenever but only once. When everyone has posted, I'll post and a new Round begins. It can be slow at times but I stand by the practice of including writers and not rushing people. However if a player does miss more than two consecutive Rounds, they will be put on probation, followed by a big boot from the story if they continue to fail to make time for the story or at least write themselves off to the side or give GM consent to control their role.
Anyway onto the craaaaazy idea...
General Idea:
The setting and history...
I want to take the setting of Dragon Age Origins and add more to it, flesh out new locations. I will make sure non-DAO players are well informed of the settings as well. I will then make my own additions to the lore and backstory to explain why certain creatures exist and how they will come into the story.
The Pokemon, races and plot...
Pokemon will become Darkspawn, infected like your typical Hurlocks and what not. Pokemon will live alongside the elves and dwarves. Pokemon will be wild but also tamable. I will give a light overview of what City Elves are and Dalish Eviles are, as well as the different castes that come into play with dwarves. The pokemon we can pick from however, will not be limited by the region but by a limited list I deem suitable for the setting we have for the story. I'm thinking natural pokemon like Rapidash, Goldeen, Rattata, Taillow, Poochyena, Natu, Vivillon, Luvdisk, and even Rayquaza.
So pokemon that could possibly evolve, unlike say Rotom, Magnemite or Vanillish for example.
In terms of the plot, I will have us follow the idea that a Blight is upon is, meaning hordes of creatures are coming up from the ground and attacking villages and people and it's up to our group to stop them.
Unlike the game, we won't be called Grey Wardens but will instead Wardens. The color that precedes the Warden title will depend on what Pokemon you have tamed and taken by your side (like the Dog). There is no color that is better than the other but I do expect our characters to have a balance so not everyone picks a fire type or flying type. There will also be strict limitations to your pokemon of choice as well as what you can pick from. The pokemon you pick will be with us on our journey to travel the land and save people from the Blight.
Unlike DAO, there political intrigue will be shuffled around a little just to make things more interesting.
There will still be magic involved if your character is a mage, and if your character is a dwarf, they will sill remain immune to it. Where pokemon come into place, will be very interesting since their attack are quick like magic...
Our characters will still be expected to do most of the fighting with their pokemon being a secondary tool on their journey.
There won't be Gyms or Badges to collect but something similar for the sake of possible (friendly) competition in the future among the group. Overall, this is going to be a grim story and I'm hoping to bring some color to the fantasy trope, as well as the pokemon one. I am sure whether you're a fan of Dragon Age or Pokemon, this is something you might have fun with fiddling with. I know my idea seems a little scattered but once I know I have a few interested folks, I will be able to formulate a formal OOC with all the needed information for anyone who is thinking of jumping in and saving the world while having a badass creature by their side.
Quick Questions:
Will we still fight dragons? Really dragons that aren't pokemon?
Yes yes.
Will becoming a Warden have been treacherous?
You bet your ass.
Will I get to raise my bloody ax and nail someone in the side of the face if they're being a dick and taking advantage of refugees?
Go for it, mate.
Do I need to have a pokemon?
Yes but if you'd rather have one that heals or just lifts heavy things or produces fire, that's fine, it doesn't have to be a major component to your Warden if it's not your thing.
Do we get quests?
Yes I will list different quests in the OOC which we'll find in the IC and decide which to tackle.
How old are our characters going to be, you think?
I'm aiming for somewhere in the 20-30s.
Will our characters know each other when we start?
Only if you want, it might be best if they do though.
How much combat will there be compare to story?
25% combat, 40% quests/story, 15% travel and 20% development/conversations/camping...if my math is correct.
