Vanessa was a little shocked hearing that they had seen wolves. ''It's good that you cut it short.. Wolves mostly ain't dangerous but if you meet one that isn't like the others..'' she said and then stopped, she stared for a minute or two out of the window and then she smiled. ''Could you help out with the dessert? I am making my own vanilla whipped cream'' she said. She winked as she knew how much Riley liked that whipped cream but never was allowed to help with it. ''All the ingredients are on the counter'' she said. ''First stiffen the cream and then put the vanilla drops in it... I use first 10 drops and taste, if its not good, each time add 2 drops... but be aware, it is a very delicate and pretty strong one so be careful'' she said and then Vanessa focused on the salad and once that one was standing she got looked around.

''When you finished the cream, go head home to change.. I am gonna change clothes and will finish the last pieces when you all are here, or else it is already cold and not tasty anymore'' Vanessa said and smiled. She walked over to Riley and ruffled trough the hair of the hard working girl. ''It's good to see you again Ri, I missed you'' she said and smiled.

------- Half an hour later ------

Vanessa had changed clothes to a black skinny jeans with a cream crop top, in her hair she had placed her sunglasses and she wore black sneakers, even changed her bandage to one that was stronger so she could walk around in her house without being limp. She had texted Sarah that she expected them in fifteen minutes and now was taking plates out of the cabinets while holding her phone between her cheek and shoulder and waited for Kade to pick up. ''Pick up.. you bastard...'' she just said as he said: ''Hello?''. ''Oh Fuck! You didn't hear that right?'' she asked but her only answer some soft laughing. ''Well ehm, Good evening.. Dinner is ready in 20 minutes.. So if you can come over, then that would be nice'' she said, she was sounding a little nervous and she knew he would be able to hear it but what would every other young women do when their biggest crush almost demanded a date. It got quiet on both ends and she placed down the plates, a little to hard. ''What was that?'' Kade asked. ''Nothing.. or... plates.. No worries.. I'll see you in twenty minutes'' she said and then pushed the red button on her phone.

She sighed and let out a deep sigh. She got the cutlery and placed those down for all three meals they had and then folded the napkins. She looked at it and knew it would be way to fancy.. She thought of that and then had a great idea, she would move it to the backyard! Then it might be still a little too formal and fancy but still had the country idea of the village they all lived in. The doorbell rang and she walked to it to open for Sarah and Riley. She smiled and hugged both. ''Could you both help me move it all to the backyard?'' she asked and smiled. ''Or do you think that I am still making it too fancy? Oh my god Sarah.. Riley.. Help! It's been years since I've been on a date or liked someone this much...'' she said and looked very desperate at the two other females. ''I could make it a picnic..'' she said and started to think again.

Kade got the house aired out..mostly, he'd leave the windows open while he was gone and that would be that. getting the fuse box going had been a bitch and a half, he was going to have to either switch out that old twist fuses to a breaker box or learn the secret to not get popped with enough current to drop an full grown adult and send him across the room. the tips of his fingers were still numb. he'd showered and cleaned up, still unable to enter his grandmother's old room. he kept expecting her to bark up the stairs at him to hurry up or to come help her with something, and when he remember he'd never hear her again.. well it didnt feel good.

he'd just gotten his clean shirt pulled down over his head when the old house phone went off.. good thing about small towns from the big city, when someone died in a small town everything just didnt get shut off, cause more then likely someone would already be in the house and would need to utilities. he grabbed up the old corded dinosaur phone in the upstairs hall when he heard on the other end ( ''Pick up.. you bastard...'' ) just as he said hello. "why am i a bastard?" he asked, showing that he had heard that. "i was pulling my clothes on, sorry i was a little slow in answering" he added ,before he heard when Dinner was. "i'll be there, and remember our date this Saturday" before he heard something get slammed down and he asked what that was, and she said it was the plates "oh, well be careful huh and i'll see you" hanging up. he slid into his good tennis shoes, his Duffel laying on the bed when the black case slid out. good thing that did, didnt want that laying around.. his gun, he stood and moving to the dresser he opened his underwear drawer and placed it in the bottom, then covered it.. he'd hide it better later.

not taking long at all, since he drove like a demon, his hair having that wind blown/feathered effect from the ride over, the roar of his motorcycle would be heard just as she was asking Sarah and Riley what to do, and think about where to have the dinner.. pulling behind what had to be Sarah's vehicle, he shut the bike off, taking off his leather jacket he threw it over the tank and headed up the walk. fixing his shirt. he wore a nice, new clean pair of jeans and a black shirt that fit over his chest nicely. he'd even shaved it seemed as he stood and knocked on the door

Krista:

Krista looked over at Sky and looked sad for a moment, she wanted to have someone to talk to outside of her group of friends and maybe find out what actually happened. "I'll uh swing by the vet clinic later then, I know you always took care of my dog Gatsby." Krista was referring to her golden retriever she got from a breeder several years ago, and she would send him to the vet for checkups. She looked over towards Kaden and then her girlfriend Cassandra and then watched as Sky left the café, she then turned her attention back to her friends. "I know I shouldn't have said anything, but maybe a vet could find out what was with that wolf's behavior." Krista whispered softly and leaned back in her seat eyeing up towards Kaden. "So whats up, you wanted to talk to us?"

Riley:

Riley looked over at Vanessa as she asked her to help out with the dessert and make the special whipped cream that she always made for her and always loved the taste of it. "I would love to help out." Riley said happily and brightly, she walked over and started to put together the ingredients into the bowl and started to mix it adding about ten drops of the vanilla into the bowl and continued to stir the bowl around until it was completely white and creamy looking. "It's been so long since I actually got to cook with you last time you were here." Riley said with a soft smile looking over towards her friend watching her getting the salad ready.

When she was finally done with the whipped cream Riley she looked at Vanessa and smiled at her as she returned the hug. "I really missed you to Vanessa." Riley said with a smile, she nodded and picked up her bag pulling the strap onto her shoulder. "And thank you so much for the bag, I really do love it." Riley smiled as she quickly headed out of Vanessa's house and headed back home.

30 Minutes Later:

Riley stood next to her mother Riley wore a jean jacket and under it was a black tank top as well as a pair of blue jeans and a pair of high heels.She stood there and rung the doorbell as soon as the door opened Sarah smiled seeing her friend, she wore a simple white dress and stood up and hugged Vanessa tightly. "You look really good." Sarah said with a smile and noticed how nervous her friend was. "Vanessa just be yourself, don't be nervous." Riley said with a smile looking over her shoulder as she could hear the motorcycle even before it turned down the street, and waved at him before turning around. "Just a table out in the back, I think will be nice."

Outsiders weren't to be trusted, especially outsiders who show up at convenient times. There was something about Sky that Kaden didn't quite like. But, she surprised him when she backed off. He wasn't ready to talk with Krista and Cass especially with her around. This was a personal conversation amongst friends, and what he was about to say would sound insane. He watched her on her way out. Sense of hearing picking up her footsteps on the way out, more specific than usual. It took a moment for Kaden to register that Krista was speaking to him. His focus was more intense, everything about it. "Oh, sorry. Uh…" Kaden thought on it before taking a knee by the table. He spoke in a soft whisper.

"I don't think a vet can tell us what happened last night. This is strange, all strange. It didn't look rabid. Why did it attack every single one of us without missing ANY of us. And we're all alive."

He stopped to gather himself.

"Do either of you… hear better? Or maybe see? Smell, or feel stronger?"

Sky smiled weakly and nodded when Krista mentioned her dog. She recognized the name and nodded, but still receiving untrusting look from the boy.....Kade....she remembered his name was, she spoke quickly, "Umm....yah. Gatsby's always a good patient.....one of my favorites."

She made sure she had her food and nodded one last time, "I'll be.....there until late every day....thanks again for the talk..."

Then, without another word Sky left the cafe.

Walking out the door she released her tense shoulders, and breathing out she groaned softly. This was one of the reasons she didnt hang out with other humans.......she would always be an outsider.

Grimacing, the girl moved over to her truck, then climbing in she got ready to shut the door. But, while doing so, her cup of coffee slipped from her hand and spilled over her lap.
The resulting sting from the hot liquid caused her to cry out and jump in her seat before reaching foreword and rubbing her thighs frantically. It stained her jeans, to which after the pain subsided Sky groaned loudly. She should have just stayed back at the clinic.....where the animals appreciated her and......

Realizing her thoughts were ranting, Sky took a breath and turned the key on her truck. It revved to life and she closed her eyes for a moment.......she liked the chat with the other kids, she couldnt deny that.....it made her feel like she was wanted.....atleast for a fleeting moment. She didnt really expect Krista to visit her...

Shaking her head Sky sighed heavily, "Friends are overated....." then drove off for the clinic.

Vanessa took a deep breath and tried to calm down, why she was so nervous she didn't even know herself! She knew Kade already for her whole life or at least from all those summers she was at her grandparents. They had ride their bikes together, they had played games together, he had learned her how to roller blade without falling.. She took another deep breath and then looked at Riley with a smile. ''Since when are you so wise?'' she asked the girl and smiled. Then she nodded at her suggestion and walked back to the kitchen, she took the plates from the table and looked at the table. She knew it would be to heavy for the three of them and right at that moment she heard a motorcycle coming this way, then heard how it got parked and shut of. Like, thirty second later her doorbell rang, she smiled some and walked over to the door.

She opened it and smiled. ''Hey..'' she said and looked at him.. Wow.. He is hot!! She felt her cheeks turn red and she had now way of hiding it. ''Okay ehm.. My dear dear Kade, can you please help? Because.. With this nice weather Sarah and Riley had the idea of taking the dinner outside but, I don't own a garden set yet.. So my real question is... Could you help move the table to the garden?'' she asked and sighed a little. She thought of it a second and then nodded. ''Yes.. That is my question'' she said and then let him in. Oh she was such a bad host, asking questions even before letting him in.. Once he was inside and she had taken his jacket and hung it away, she smiled at him and in a short moment, she kissed his cheek and that made her think of their date this Saturday. ''Oh and.. I will gladly go on a date with you..'' she said and her blushing cheeks came back and she looked down. It was so weird.. She couldn't talk to him, look at him or just think of him without feeling a blush coming up but in a moment where she didn't use her mind and didn't think, she could give him a kiss on his cheek without the blushing like a high school girl.

She then walked to the living room with the open kitchen and turned around the pork chops, checked the salad and the grilled potatoes. ''The appetizer is ready.. I'll serve it when the table is outside'' she said. She knew she didn't had a garden set yet because her parents had told her they had stored everything away, she knew she always could ask where they had put the key so she could take a look between it but she also knew they had taken it away because it would make Vanessa think to much about her grandparents and then she would keep crying.

Cassandra gave a heavy sigh, wishing they could have had even five minutes without bringing up last night. It was bad enough that she was, most likely, going to have nightmares because of it. Even now, she shuddered as she thought on it. Struggling to reach Krista would always be a horrible member in her mind. She looked up as Kaden began to talk, and frowned slightly, thinking on it.

She hadn't really had much time to think on that. And with horror, she realised where Kaden was going with that. oh, Christ, was that thing a mutant wolf?, she thought to herself, freaked out. She swallowed, looking at Kaden in shock.

"W-w-what are you s-s-saying?"

Kade stood at the front door, waiting and when it opened and she smiled at him, he smiled back. "hey back" he said, noticing the blush, and that just made him smile for a whole different reason as he stood there, eyes narrowing as she began sweet talking him, and then asked for help he walked in. "sure, what do you need help with?" he asked removing his jacket as she took forever to explain what she needed help with. "when did you become so tongue tied? the women i knew could out talk the debate team and she never was on debate." with his Jacket taken and hung up he nodded. "I'll get the table out there for us, don't worry" and then she kissed him, which sent his own heart pounding and his whole body flushing with even more heat when she mentioned their date Saturday. "good to know, i wont look like a fool coming around eight o clock?" giving a time as her cheeks started blushing once again.

Kade followed. "Ladies" nodding to Riley and Sarah. "i wont be but a moment" opening the back door first. "stand back" not wanting them to get hurt, though he looked to Riley, smelling something on her, something different but Familiar but now wasn't the time as he grabbed the table at the end, and by himself picked it clean up and turned it onto its side as he held it and walked it clean out, maneuvering it when the legs got in the way, but in no time it was outside and sat back down. "and the Table is outside" he called out, walking back up, dusting his hands off as he stood at the open door. "and since my grandmother didn't raise me to be disrespectful" his arms lowering. "what else needs taken out" offering to actual help with what some would call women work.

Riley and Sarah:

"Since when are you so wise?" Riley looked over at her mothers friend and laughed softly and smiled shrugging slightly. "Just watched a lot of dating shows I guess." She said watching as Kade walked in, she followed her mother inside and into the kitchen seeing all the food on the counter. It all smelled so good, she just wanted to eat it all right then and there then she turned her attention towards Kade as he somehow easily lifted up the table and slowly moved it towards the back door and then outside. She couldn't help but get a strange but familiar smell from him as well, Riley then headed over and grabbed two of the heavy chairs that went with the table lifting them both up easily and headed outside doing the same to the other two chairs as well. "Chairs are set." Riley said looking over towards Kade and smiled at him.

Sarah watched as both her daughter and Kade easily lifted up the table and chairs heading outside to set it up, surprised she never seen Riley lift something heavily with ease. "Vanessa and I got the rest of it, you two just hangout." Sarah said turning her attention towards Vanessa, she started to grab the plates and glasses along with the rest of the silverware and started to set up the table.

Krista:

Krista quickly turned her head when she heard someone scream, seeing that it was Sky in her car spilling coffee all over herself, though she was scared at the thought of what Kaden had just said. She could hear Sky scream from the scolding hot coffee even from across the street and through a closed car door. "I uh, yeah I guess I mean I do feel really different. But not in a bad way, as if I was stronger then before.." Krista said softly looking over towards Cassandra and reached out to hold her hand gently to try and comfort her.

The whole ordeal with the wolf was really crazy, seeing Cassandra being attacked and being helpless scared her she then turned her attention back to Kaden. "So what do you think happened?" Krista asked.

Vanessa giggled a little about Riley's comment, once she had let Kade in and he asked her what happened to the girl that could take the debating team and not even be on the team. She thought about it and couldn't think of a good answer, she shrugged and when he had taken the table outside and Riley had done the chairs she started to help Sarah with the rest. ''We start with soup, then we have pork chops, grilled potatoes and a fresh salad and as dessert strawberry ice cream with self made vanilla whipped cream'' she said and saw two faces get a little surprised. ''I learned from my grandparents to always show your best cooking when you have guests'' she said and shrugged. She then walked back inside, there she filled the plates, cleaned the edges and with three plates at a time she walked back. She smiled and placed the plates down.

Before she walked back to take her own plate she looked at them. ''What do you wanna drink? I got Soda, Coke, 7up, Wine both red and white, sweet and dry and beer'' she asked and smiled. It was that she wasn't wear a knee-length skirt and while blouse, heels and a ponytail or else you could totally say they were at a restaurant. She smiled.

Kade

Kade watched as Riley brought the chairs, his head tilted to the side as he watched her move them with ease, not that chairs were heavy, but those had a bit of weight to them, as did the table. "if your sure" when Sarah said her and Vanessa had it. Kade pulled a chair out for Riley and himself, then sat. now that he could focus, he watched her. "so Riley, how goes the Teenage years? "he asked. "anything interesting happen?" he asked casually, but there was a real question in there, cause the smell coming off her was familiar to him, and if he was right then she had no idea what was coming, not that Kade knew of the others that had gotten attacked as well and not just one.

James

pulling up outside the coffee shop, the Cruiser parked and Deputy Officer James Owen got out, slamming the cruiser door as he did. his right hand resting on his holstered sidearm, he walked up, and stepped inside the shop. with his short auburn hair all slicked back and spiked, wearing his favorite sunglasses, he looked around before he caught side of the group of teens sitting there, whispering among themselves. he walked over, putting himself right in their business, cause he was the law and more important to most people he was an ass. "and just what are you three over there whispering back?" he asked, staring at them, pulling his sunglasses off. "and Mr. Reid a part of it" tsking now. "now im even more suspicious" staring at Kaden, then Krista and lastly Cassandra. "i'll be keeping my eye out on you two young ladies now that i know you hang around with this one" giving Kaden's shoulder on pat and squeeze.

Mia

Coffee break.. Or so Mia called it herself after a long day of sewing, ordering new clothes and getting her shop ordered on color and popularity. She always had a love for clothes but at this moment? She was sick of it and needed a good coffee. So she walked to the coffee shop down the street and saw James Owen, the most loved person in town -Ahum-, just walk inside. They had been on the same school, just like most of the people around here. She walked in the coffee shop and heard him say his 'I'll be watching you to some kids'. ''Deputy.. Don't you think you should worry more about the real thief's..'' she said and then walked to the counter. ''One Choco-Coffee.. To go please'' she said and the women behind the counter nodded. Mia laid down some money for the coffee and once she got her cup-to-go, she turned around.

She walked by when she remembered something. ''Oh.. James, your blouse is ready to be picked up.. All buttons are back on it and I even repaired the chest pocket for you'' she said with a smile. Not that he was a chubby person like in the movies but she liked to tease the guy. She always had been teasing him and she would never stop. ''You can pick it up now.. or tomorrow, but then you must be at the shop before I am because once I am back, I'll close for today'' she said and winked.

Cassandra had her attention on Kaden too, flicking to the scream but seeing that it wasn't a wolf attack or a mugging or something, just general clumsiness, but she did hope Sky was okay. She glanced to Krista as she spoke, and squeezed her hand.

Both of them seemed to be waiting for Kaden to speak, to voice the thought they were all probably thinking now. What has happened to us? Are we going to howl at the full moon? floated through her thoughts, as she waited for Kaden to continue.

Riley looked over at Kade as he asked her and smiled slightly as the table was set by Vanessa and with the help of her mother smelling the amazing cooking already she felt her mouth start to water. "It's been going well, just finished a camping trip recently with some friends yesterday." She answered looking up at Vanessa for what she would like to drink. "I'd like some Coke please." Riley said looking over at her mother. "I'll have a beer, and your cooking is always the best Vanessa you should open up a restaurant of your own." Sarah said taking a seat next to Riley smiling to her friend.

Krista looked outside the window seeing the local sheriff's car pulling into the parking lot seeing the familiar face of Officer Owen coming out of the cruiser and entering the café and quickly approaching the three of them. "We are just talking, a private conversation really is that even a crime now?" She said glaring at Officer Owen, Krista rarely ever snapped at anyone but always it was Owen that really got under her skin always harassing the kids when there were other crimes going on in town.

He looked back and forth between Krista and Cassandra before he continued speaking. Krista seemed to be taking his question a lot better than Cass, actually answering it. So, he wasn't crazy. At least, not yet. "I don't even know what I'm trying to say yet, alright? Just found it a bit strange that I dodged my dad's fi-" He paused that sentence. "Some things seem to be moving faster, or slower. Just a tiny bit. That's it. I'm not saying we're all gonna' tear our clothes off and howl at the moon or anything okay? So, just take a breather alright?" Kaden paused to gather another thought.

"Like, maybe it's one of those life and death situations. We experience things better because there's some new, subconscious appreciation for life." That was a sentence that most kids never would believe came out of Kaden's mouth. Known for bad grades and being a slacker in school or just a dumb jock. Not many knew it was quite the opposite, especially that he had a fondness for reading. But soon he was cut off by Officer Owen. Even though Krista beat him to the punch, what Kaden was talking about came out in full force. As an aggressive guy, the wolf bite must have intensified it.

"We're just talking about a big cocaine deal we're going to pull off tonight, then use the money to throw a wild rager where every kid in town gets wasted." Kaden glared at him. "Why don't you go fuck off, Owen. No one likes an asshole."

Driving along back to the clinic, Sky pursed her lips and thought to the wolf attack. So odd.....and no past occurrences of a similar attack.....

Frowning she worried that this might indeed be rabies.....hopefully just a wolf who decided to get a little too fond of.....hunting humans.

No....then it would have killed the victims. Why was this so hard to figure out!

Huffing Sky grit her teeth as she pulled up to the clinic. There were hardly any cars there; just the few owned by employees. Still, the day was slow as ever.

Parking and getting out of her truck Sky walked up to the main entrance and entered. She came to the reception room, and was surprised to see three people waiting impatiently on the benches against the wall.

She stepped foreword, "Is something wrong?"

One man looked up, huffing, "If you call an attack on my prize horse, wrong, then yes."

An attack? Red lake didn't usually have such things.....she knew there were people in the world that liked to inflict damage on animals but....

"Human attacker?"

The man shook his head, "No.....the doc said it was from an animal....wolf maybe...."

Wolf? Sky's eyes widened and the man continued, "I heard a commotion and went out with my gun.....but all I found was my horse in the pasture.....thing must have run off when I came out."

Sky blinked, then nodding turned to stride towards the back rooms. She had to see this.

Pulling on her scrubs Sky made her way into the operating room, where she heard quiet voices. She went to the door, and what she saw through the glass window made her freeze.

A large stallion, lay still on the concrete floor. Red pooled around him and gashes marred most of his body. Cleaved to bone, was an understatement.

Signs of wolf was scattered everywhere.

The Vet shook his head gravely, and Sky realized with a droop of her shoulders the patient had died.

The doctor nodded, "Inform the owner."

One of the nurses nodded, "What do I say of the wolf?"

"There's nothing we can do but wait for it to make another attack and shoot it in the act. Law would allow its extermination then, but until then we can do nothing."

"Yes sir."

Sky furrowed her eyebrows. Wolf.

Just found it a bit strange that I dodged my dad's fi- Cassandra frowned at that stopped sentence, Fist, she was sure was the interrupted word. Anger flashed through her. A parent shouldn't hit their kid, shouldn't use them as a punching bag, but feeling that saying anything would just offend Kaden, she didn't say anything. Kaden's words were all very poetic, but she had her doubts. "You normally don't come out of a life or death situation with the injuries healed" She pointed out, speaking softly, closed her mouth when Officer Owen approached.

She gritted her teeth at his comment about htem hanging out with Kaden. "What, you mean hanging around with a friend? A strange concept for you, Officer. You probably don't even know the meaning. A friend is someone who actually likes you" She shook her head, and sighed, "We aren't doing anything illegal, unless sitting in a coffee shop and talking has suddenly become illegal."

''A restaurant?'' Vanessa asked from the kitchen, where she grabbed a beer, she took also a glass with her and then filled another glass with coke and for herself she took a sweet white wine. With the three glasses and the beer in her hand she walked back and placed them down without spilling. ''There you go'' she said and looked at Kade. ''Do you already know what you would like to drink?'' she asked with a smile.

"Well you are a really good cook, and it would be pretty fun." Sarah said with a smile as she took the beer from Vanessa setting it down in front of her and took a sip of it. Riley took the glass of coke and started to drink from it as well, she then started to grab the food putting it onto her plate same as Sarah who did the same. Riley then turned to look up at Vanessa. "Do you have any plans on traveling anywhere else anytime soon? Because I would really love to go with you someday." Riley said.

Krista looked over at Cassandra she was surprised to hear her make a comment towards Officer Owens who was always an ass but she looked between Kaden and then Cassandra before speaking up. "We are just friends having some lunch together, nothing really going on here but if you really want to you can listen to our conversation though it's mostly about kid stuff you would probably get bored real quick."

Kade

Kade gave a kind smile back to Riley, and much like he the smell of food was making his stomach want to tear out and go get it himself. "good to hear" when she answered it was going well, at the mention of the camping trip, he arched a brow. "Camping huh, in this woods around here? how did that go?" he asked. "my grandmother would tell me how the wildlife around all these parts were so use to humans they'd come right up to you or if camping right into your camp site, anything like that happen?" before looking up at Vanessa, smiling. "i wont torture the minor and drink in front of her, a Coke for me, i can use the Caffeine, been cleaning and dusting all day, not my most favorite activity, but one that was needed to be done, badly" sitting back, he gave Riley a Nudge. "you know i think we got tricked here, we'll have to carry the chairs and table back inside once we are done" teasing some. "and it sure does smell like she knows what she's doing, my stomach is about to burst out and go make a plate on its own" though it wasn't long before the food was brought out, and he waited til the ladies all made theirs first, some of the old Wolf Lake manners he was taught, before he went to making his own, watching Riley carefully, mainly to check on her Appetite and how much she could put away.

Owen
standing there, one hand on Kaden's shoulder, the other on his belt, more importantly resting near his gun. when the bell over the door went off he turned, seeing Mia walk in. "i don't tell you how to run your shop Mia, leave the police business to me huh? you don't know this one like i do" meaning Kaden. "I'm starting to think its something with the Name that breeds troublemakers" of course referring to his old high school Rival, but they didn't need to know that as he turned back toward the children, though he froze at the blouse thing. "Funny Mia, funny" shaking his head. he looked at Krista.
